Force restore iphone 3g

Hi guys,
About 2 years ago I jailbroke my iphone (it was out of necessity, my home button became completely unresponsive and I found a jailbreak up [mquickdo] which created a virtual home button with a similar gesture to what we now use for notification centre). The phone ran completely fine jailbroken. I never installed any others mods or apps, only mquickdo, it made my phone useable for the remaining 6 months that i had it.
When I upgraded to the iphone4, i decided to wipe my 3g so I could give it to my mother to use (i had planned to take it to a repair shop to have the home button fixed, so i thought i could wipe the phone and the jailbreak and send her back to a factory reset). I did so using the "erase all content and settings" feature in General settings, however this made the phone completely unusable. It now seizes up at the apple logo when i try to turn it on (but since it is still jailbroken, it is some odd hybrid of the apple logo and a spin/loading wheel. It just stays on this image indefinitely (i.e. till the battery drains).
I want to know if there is any way I can do a force software installation to replace whatever is currently on the drive with the normal firmware. I know there is a method of putting the phone into recovery mode, however my understanding is that it require use of the home button (which of course, i dont have). When i connect the phone to my mac it receives the power via the usb, but does not load in itunes.
Is there any other alternative way you guys know that I can force the phone to reset the software?
I am on the side of technologically literate (or at least i can follow instructions, so if there is any backway into the phones drive, I should be able to follow).
Thanks in advance guys.

Stop. No, you have proven you are not. It's been a HUGE warning to never select the "Erase All Content and Settings" option as this will cause kernel/boot lockups. Yes, it should render your device soft-bricked. But, only you can determine a hard brick.
Put the device into DFU mode, and restore to OS 4.2 http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034. This should remove the jailbreak on the iPhone. However, since you don't seem to have a functioning home button, you may be completely out of luck. I'd suggest repairing your home button, or selling your 3G for parts, and use the money to get a new phone.

  • Force restore iphone data backup?

    dear helpful people,
i restored my iphone but accidentally set it up as a new phone, instead of from a backup. and i do have a backup (i manually made a backup of the backup folder as well). but now, having done this, i can't get my phone (even after renaming it), to recognize my former backup, so i can get my notes, sms's, etc. (i realize most everything else will just sync as it should, or so i figure).
    can anyone help me?
    thanks,
    ty

    Hey Ty,
Try erasing the content of the iPhone from the reset menu and then syncing the iPhone.
Go to Settings>General>Reset> Erase All Content and Settings.
The reset is described on page 99 http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhoneUserGuide.pdf

I downloaded iOS 7 to my iPhone 5. On the process I must have put in an unknown passcode. Now the phone is disabled. I spent hours on the phone with Apple tech tech help. You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Some users have reported that as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necassary before success.
Take your time and pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4...
    However...
if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.

  • Help please with restoring iphone factory setting

hey can someone help me please? i did "restore" to factory setting on itunes for my i phone and now after it reboot it has the icon of usb and itunes icon on screen and the only other option it lets me do is emergency call, what do i do?

Connect your iPhone to iTunes and perform the restore again. DO NOT unplug it until it is completely done and it's on.
If iTunes cannot recognize the iPhone, force your iPhone into recovery mode and try to do the restore from there. To do this, turn it off. then, press and hold the home button. Keeping it held, plug your iPhone into iTunes via the USB cable. Keep holding down the home button until the screen showing a USB cable and an iTunes icon. Then, iTunes will recognize your iPhone, and you can do a restore.
Again, do not unplug your iPhone until iTunes says it's done restoring. It will reboot your iPhone a couple of times before it's done.

  • Itunes Quits while Restoring Iphone 3GS

Today, in a moment of inattention, I accidentally unplugged my Iphone during a a 3.0.1 software update. It went into recovery mode, with the screen of the little USB cord pointing to an iTunes symbol. I plugged the phone back into my computer via the USB. The computer recognized that the iPHone was in recovery mode and gave me a message to restore. When I tried to restore it, iTunes began to prepare to restore, but when it began to Verify the restore with Apple, Itunes unexpectedly quit. I tried the process again, after rebooting both the computer and the phone, but no matter what I did, iTunes unexpectedly quit when it tried to verify the restore with Apple. Is my iPhone damaged beyond repair, or did it screw up both the phone and iTunes when it became unplugged?

the screen that shows the cable pointing to the iTunes symbol is not recovery mode..that's the activation screen...
try putting the iPhone in recovery mode and then restoring...follow the steps below to get into recovery mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may want to try to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes before doing the restore just in case that will help
You should also delete the currently saved OS download in iTunes as well...
Goto MAC HD > Library > iTunes > iPhone software Updates > delete the current file that is named something like iPhone 2,1_3.0.1 then the build number...
This will force iTunes to download a fresh new copy of the 3.0.1 OS before it restores iPhone again...

  • Unable to restore Iphone 3GS 1604 Error

    Hello,
I have been trying for hours to restore Iphone 3GS in XP. All i did was click "yes" to update iphone and now I am in a mess. Tried reinstalling, different ports, different cables, still unable to restore.

I'm not sure, or else more people would be posting about it. Best way to tell is try at a different time.
Also, you could try putting the phone in Forced Recovery mode as outlined in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
Also, are you using iPhone cables or iPod cables? If you're using the appropriate cable and the same thing happens, then hopefully your phone is still within warranty and you can go to an Apple Store for the Genius Bar.

  • Restore iphone 5 IOS

I am new to the iPhone.  I have had a problem with the Square App.  I start the App and get the Push Notification Screen. I click OK.  It will not go away. I have deleted the App. I have reinstalled the App, I have force quit the app, I have rebooted the device to no avail.  Talking to a tech at Apple and a tech at an Authorized Apple retailer they have both suggested I restore the iphone.
I am assuming they are talking about connecting the device to iTunes and clicking the restore iPhone button. I am also assuming this basically reformats the device and reinstalls IOS 6.
I also have the phone backed up to iTunes. I also am assuming when I restore all the apps will be reinstalled as well.

It's the case, never jailbroken. Also, for info I had since the first day problem to communicate when using apple earphone and tryied with the blackberry one and a brand new Sennheiser earphone (made for iphone) without success (but working just to listen to music). I was on the point to request help for that issue..but now it's finished.
Please as last advice, what's the trick to claim for replacement (without headache), I'm extremely disappointed!
For info, I bought the iphone from Dubai-UAE and I'm in Tunisia.
    Thanks for reply.

  • TS1702 Restore iPhone without losing apps

Is there not a way to restore iPhone OS6 without having to start over installing apps??

Maybe, but you'd have to try it.
Connect your iPhone to your computer running iTunes via USB cable.  On the info page, you'll see the "Update" and the "Restore" button.  Don't use Restore; that will refresh everything and force you to reinstall apps.  Instead, hold down the Option button and hit "Update."  That should pop-up a box that allows you to choose the version you want to update to.  Select the iOS 6 installation package and go.  It may work.  I've used that technique when Update wasn't recognizing a newer version that was available and it worked fine, but I don't know if it will work when the two versions are the same.  Good luck!

  • Restoring iphone from backup

is anyone else having trouble restoring iphone from backup since 2.0. it worked fine with 1.4 but i have tried it once with 2.0 and once 2.0.1 both times it said my backup was corrupt. this is getting real annoying.

I'm about to just thow my iphone 3G out the window. I cannot upgrade the software without it hanging up and not finishing. Then I am forced to try to restore the phone, and it will not restore. I am taking it to an apple genius again today to get it restored. I have not gotten any information that has helped resolve this issue. I've been on the phone with a tier 1 and tier 2 support person for 4 hours about 3 weeks ago and I'm now in the same boat again. Any info on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated!!

  • HT1414 how to restore iPhone 4 without downloading iOS update

How to restore iPhone 4 without downloading iOS 7.6 update?

If Find My Phone is turned on, login to iCloud.com, using your computer, locate the phone, then erase it. This will remove the passcode without having to restore the phone.
If you can't do that, you'll have to force the phone into recovery mode, & restore it.

  • Secure link to iTunes Store Failed, Can't restore iPhone.

    Good day,
Am hoping to get some help please. We recently upgraded our desktop from Windows XP to Windows 7. Re-installed all the software as well as iTunes 10.
All has been working fine, up until yesterday. The playlist which we where syncing with the iPhone 3G, had been changed and we wanted to sync the changes to the phone.
When preforming the sync, it got to the point where it said "Finishing Sync" in iTunes, the phone said "Sync in Progress" and iTunes froze completely. (Not Responding) Left it for about 30mins, after which it still said the same. I rebooted the machine and the phone, and tried again with the same error. I then tried removing all music and videos from the phone. Same problem.
My last resort was to attempt a restore of the phone. It started the restore and eventually got to a point where iTunes came up with the error 2003, unable to restore iPhone, the phone was now stuck in restore mode with the iTunes Logo and USB plug on the main screen.
So off to the iStore to get it fixed. The phone was reformatted/restored there and was working fine but I did not have any contacts/messages or photos on the phone, so I attempted another restore, so I could get my info back. It came up with the same issue again. Error 2003.
I then started browsing around and found out the iTunes diagnostics, it fails every time on the "Secure link to iTunes", iTunes has been added to the Windows firewall, I have tried un-installing my AntiVirus software and trying it with again but same result. I have checked the ports are all open. I have tried to reset my hosts file. I have reset my internet explorer settings, but nothing is working.
Can anybody help me out with this please.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.
You can download a free version of an excellent scanner- Malwarebytes here:

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Restoring iPhone from an iTunes backed up on an External Harddrive

I deleted all of my old "restore iphone" devices not realizing that I was deleted my current one as well. I am having trouble locating Mobilsync in my MacHD and in my external HD where everything is backed up. I used the scripts you put in the terminal and etc etc but still no luck in being able to find MobileSync.
So heres my question. How can I restore my itunes that is backed up on my external so when I connect my iphone I can just restore it from one of the previously restored iphone.
Idealy I would like to just find mobilesync on my MacHD since that would have my most recent backed up iphone data. however, ill take an older backed up file from my external seeing how i have nothing on my iphone right now..
Another thing is that I dont care about pictures or music. I just need all my contacts back and dates saved in my calender.
I have not backed anything up onto iCloud.
    Thank you,
    P

The Mobilesync files are in a hidden folder in your user folder. In the "Go" Finder menu, select "Go To Folder..." and in the resulting text field type
    /Users/yourusername/Library
and click "Go". This will open your hidden Library file. In the "Applications Support" folder you will find the Mobilesync files.  Open up the same folder in your backup and drag & drop the files into the current Mobilesync folder. That will restore your backed up backup files. Then start iTunes and hopefully they will show up.
    Good luck.
