Force safari to display standard website?

Is there a way to force safari on the iPad to display the standard web page rather than the mobile one? For instance, if I go to NBC.com, the page displays as a mobile page and I want it to display like it does on my desktop.
Thanks!

Download Atomic Web Browser. It's an incredible browser that has a lot of useful features. (No I don't work for the developer, but I got tired of Safari.) It has a feature so you can tell it to identify your browser as Safari desktop. Plus it's got an ad-blocker and has tabs for quick switching rather than waiting for Safari's eye candy. One thing that bugs me about Safari is that if you have multiple pages open, it reloads when you switch between them. Atomic doesn't seem to have that problem. Now, it does have some quirks; mainly it doesn't remember your last page open if you close the app. But, the developer takes user suggestions and it keeps getting better. A lot of folks on Macrumors recommend it.

  • Make Safari stop displaying a website?

Hey everyone. I want to know if there's a way (or a plugin) to make Safari stop displaying specific websites. I go to a few websites that have talking ads, and disabling Javascript to get rid of them also gets rid of various site features that I enjoy having. So is there a way I can simply have Safari stop displaying the websites that the ads are hosted on? A plugin, as I said before, will also do. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but before I mark it as solved I want to know, how do I do this with multiple sites? I'm going to guess that you just do it again on another line (since to do it at all 127.0.0.1 is already used twice), but I would like conformation.

  • Intel version's Safari cannot display some website's photos (but PPC cannt)

The Safari (Intel) is not able to display graphics/photos in some websites, (like http://www.fotop.net).
but if running the safari in rosetta mode, it will able to display so.
Can any one help to know want happened?

This MacOSX Hints page shows how to enable the debug menu, which also allows you to change the user agent.
Since the site works fine on Safari 2.0.3 ( 417.9.2) for me, I'd say that the website simply need to update their User Agent identification info to account for the latest versions. But hey - just tell both partys.
Hopefully someone else here with an Intel Mac can confirm if the site works for them.

  • Force safari to display pdf in browser instead of downloading

Most of times, my computer displays pdf within Safari browser window, which is my preferred way of viewing online pdf's. But sometimes it downloads it to the "Download" folder. I don't really understand the difference. Is there a way to stop Safari from download pdf's?

My criticism of your words was founded on a logical interpretation of your words. Your use of +"however, I usually..."+ basically said this to me: +"but I get around the problem altogether by... and you might also consider the same."+ You may wish to argue that I read too much into what you wrote, but that is how my mind works. Hence my previous post. Even so, I appreciate your kind clarification.
And as to your "invoke search engine" remark which my prior post comments upon, my words were clear. I didn't know what you meant, and I stated my experience about search. But again, thank you for your clarification.
As to the "site manager denying that capability" comment of your most recent post, I can only say that we don't know if the site manager really wanted us to download the PDF or view it in-browser. Some people throw together sites without thinking too deeply. And reasonably speaking, we cannot expect web designers to "code it properly." I want to view all PDFs in-browser, regardless of the coding.
Again, this is why one of my earlier posts in this thread mentions *Safari 5 extensions.* I've been using some of them lately, and they work magic. I therefore hope an enterprising extension writer viewing this thread might be inspired to write one that works around "badly coded sites" to empower Safari users to view ALL PDFs, from any site (however badly coded) to display in-browser.

  • Safari not displaying updated website

I maintain a website for a client that is all mac-based. I work primarily on a pc, but have a mac so I can check the design.
Recently when I make a change to the website, specifically images, the client can not see them on their mac for 24 hours+. I work remotely so I can't just check their computers. I can see the changes fine on my computers and have colleagues check it for me and the new changes are definitely live.
If the client refreshes, clears their cache, refreshes again, reboots, refreshes, clears their cache it eventually comes live. But it has been going on for awhile and I don't understand why the cache is being held for so long even if the image has changed.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab.
Where you see: Click the Database storage pop up menu then select 10MB or higher. See if that makes a difference.

  • Mac Safari can't display ikea website properly but iPad Safari can

Anyone noticed this? I was browsing Ikea website on my Mac mini today, and realize the color and buy online option for the furniture can't de displayed on the Mac Safari, but my iPad Safari can display these options without any problem. I thought it's the Mac Safari, so I switched to Firefox, still, no color and buy online options...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account, or is system-wide. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Any application you run will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch Safari and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

  • How do I stop Safari from displaying .rtf and .doc files?

I have placed a number of .rtf and .doc files on my website for downloading. I've notice that my other browsers download the actual file when I type in the exact web address to where they are stored, whereas Safari just displays the text in Safari--there's no physical file download. What can I do to force Safari to download the physical file? (Am I not storing the file for download properly?)

    Hello jtenny,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
I had a similar problem with Safari opening .pdf files. It went away when I went into the following folder: Your Home Folder/Library/Internet Plug-ins, and dragged out any files that looked as if they might make a difference, just one at a time, onto the Desktop. (N.B. I did not Trash them; and if removal made no difference, I replaced the file into the Plug-ins folder.) You will have to restart Safari on each occasion; and on a couple of occasions I found that re-setting Safari (Safari Menu) was necessary to give the application a start-from-scratch with each download attempt.
That's a somewhat makeshift way of approaching it; but provided you don't trash the plugins, and provided you restore those that make no difference, it can't do any harm -- within my experience anyway.
    All good wishes from Ireland
    Martin

  • How do I force Safari to remember site logins/passwords?

    Hi.
I'm using a new Mini running Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.5. I installed the computer fresh, rather than migrating from my old computer (2007 Mini), as I was dragging a lot of dead weight in settings, preferences, and cache. Safari DID acquire my bookmarks from the cloud on first use.
I am frustrated that some of my registered websites/passwords have not been saved; they are not listed in the preferences. Is there any way to force Safari to store the sites? Is it possible to migrate ONLY those settings from my old computer?

Just in case there any outdated keychains ..
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the sites you want Safari to remember passwords for then delete the current keychain for each one.
Back to Safari. Navigate to a site you deleted the old keychain for.
Login with your username and password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
To make sure Safari syncs Bookmarks with iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud
    Make sure Safari is selected.

  • Can't get Safari to Display Properly

SInce installing Lion, Safari intermittently displays text as blocks of A's in boxes. Seemed to be linked to Extensis Suitcase Fusion. When the Core Engine was "ON" in System Preferences, it occurred. So, I upgraded from Fusion 2 to Fusion 3. Extensis did not answer my question directly except to say Fusion 3 was Lion compatible. After the upgrade, it continues to happen.
I have tried repairing permissions, emptying the cache, Onyx, restarting etc. Nothing works. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN FIREFOX. But I prefer to use Safari.
Anyone experiencing this or have another suggestion as the culprit over Suitcase Fusion?
Please help if you can. I want my websites back!
    Many thanks

  • Cannot force Safari to use Adobe Reader in Leopard for pdf

Vanguard.com only supports download of pdfs on a Mac if Safari is using Adobe Reader. (Yes, that's totally awesome.)
I can't seem to force Safari to do that; it will only use Safari's built-in pdf reader.
    - In Adobe Reader 8.1.1's preferences, the option "Display PDF in browser using" is greyed out.
    - In Adobe Reader, selecting Help -> Repair Adobe Reader Installation says there is nothing to repair.
    - /Library/Internet Plug-ins and ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins do not contain AdobePDFViewer.plugin, nor can I find it anywhere on my machine.
    - I've reinstalled Adobe Reader 8.1.1 a number of times already, to no avail.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Forcing Safari to load non-iphone version of the web page

Does anyone know how to force safari to load a regular version of a website instead of an iphone specific one? There are some websites I goto that forces me to the iphone specific one but I don't like the layout. Thanks.

The site is choosing to send you a different page based on the iPhone reporting itself as the agent accessing the page.
On some desktop browsers, it is possible to change the agent that is reported to the site. The iPhone's Safari browser does not have this facility, however.
You might try seeing if the main page is a redirect to a "normal" version or iPhone version. If you have the full URL of the normal version then you might be able to type it out more completely and go to it directly. This depends on the implementation of the site you're visiting, however.
(For instance, if http://site.com redirects to http://site.com/iphone or http://site.com/normal.html, you might try directly visiting http://site.com/normal.html. Again, this depends on the particular implementation of the site and what pages they've implemented iPhone dependent logic in.)

  • Safari Problem displaying pdf's

I updated as suggested by Updater to Safari 5.1.5 and now no pdf's will display from websites - just black screen. I am running OS10.6.8  How can I go back to previous installation?

    Thanks Carolyn Samit!
I have a 2012 Macbook and I'm running Safari (6.0.1). The same thing was happening. I ignored it for a while, but then searched and found this posting. After deleting "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" I'm able to see the PDFs.
What caused this? I must have downloaded this Adobe software unknowingly, right? Safari didn't have a problem with this previously ... so was it an upgrade issue with Safari or a user issue (unwittingly downloading Adobe crap)?

  • Safari not opening password websites

I have been trying to open two different websites that are password protected and since I updated to Leopard I cannot open them on my Mac. (One is work based and the other is my electronic subscription to Financial Times) However, I can open them with the same username/password on a Windows PC which is on the same network. After trying, Safari just displays the password screen and says the username or password is wrong...which they aren't. Any help or is my computer just freaking out?

I too have a similar issue. My bank website requires that whenever I log in from a different computer, that I answer a security question, and then if I select the option "this is a personal computer, please register it", then whenever I log in again I should no longer need to answer the security question. When using the new Safari and Leopard, I have to answer that question every tome I log in. Firefox works fine, but I'd rather stick to one browser instead of switching back and forth. Any suggestions?

  • Force Safari into mobile Safari

Anyone out there know if it's possible to force Safari on my iPad to interact with a website as my iPhone (mobile) Safari does? There's a website with a function that's working fine through my iPhone's Safari, but not iPad's version.

Thanks for trying! No, actually, the cloud player - which didn't work in Safari before , has actually finally started working for me (Some with original iPads say no change in that, however.)  But with the recent change, you can't even buy mp3s albums from regular Amazon website pages, anymore. We all used to be able to. Now it just says - multimedia downloads now currently supported by this device, go to a regular computer to buy it.
In an iphone, a separate, new amazon mp3 store pops up in a new page and you can purchase mp3s off there just fine. Which is how safari should work on iPad, also. They've just got some glitch in the programming somewhere to prevent that (for now).  Which is why I though if I could make my iPad Safari behave like my iPhone Safari, I could 'trick' the glitch until it's mended.

  • Forcing Safari to open new links in a new tab

Without sounding cynical, I love Safari but have been using Chrome for several years because it behaves like "I" want...not like "Apple" wants.  I keep hoping Apple will fix the remaining two quirks (for me anyway) that keep me from using it full time.  One of them I can live without...the other I can't, but perhaps there's a way around it that someone here might know about.
    1.  I want EVERY link on which I click to always open in a new tab (or at least in a new window if it's coded to do that).  Safari insists on opening almost every link in the same window I'm already in, forcing me to page back to get to where I started.  I have the Tab Preferences set to "Open pages in tabs instead of windows AUTOMATICALLY" which is supposed to use the tabs, except where the link is coded to open a child window.  BUT...this simply does not happen.  I could change this preference to ALWAYS instead of AUTOMATICALLY but then I lose the child windows when they're supposed to open.  Chrome does this perfectly...why can't Safari?
    2.  The only other thing is not fixable yet, but perhaps someday Apple will realize it (I've submitted it as a Safari suggestion already).  When I open a page in Safari, why must I have to move my cursor to the address window?  It's so amazing how Chrome as always opened with the cursor already positioned in the address window already...where else would you want it if you're going to open the browser and type something?
Anyway, it's the first item that really irks me, but perhaps it's just something I'm doing wrong.  Thanks for any help.

Start by opening a Terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal). Enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
    Restart Safari.
If you decide you want to change back, just re-enter the command but replace true at the end of the command with false.
