Force unmount of USB phone connection

I'm running 10.6.2 on an MBP. My wife has a Sony Ericsson G90 and I have a modu. Both phones have PC software, not Mac.
I have previously set up the G900 PC Suite on a VirtualBox VM, and run it successfully. I have three G900 devices in networking, representing the three modes the G900 can be in when communicating via USB. However, I'm finding that when in file transfer mode on the G900, I can't unmount the G900 from the Mac and pick it up in the VM. Every time I connect, iPhoto fires up. When I unmount, it just mounts again.
THe same thing happens with my modu phone. I have the modu PC Suuite installed in the VM, but I can't get it connected. Every time I try to unmount, it immediately re-mounts.

So does this truly unmount the drive? .... I've seen corruption at least once AFTER disconnecting users, though it's been about 8 months and a couple of firmware updates since I verified this.
I can't explain that corruption, but here's what Glenn Fleishman says in his electronic book "Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Network" (http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/airport-n):
"When no users are connected, the drive is in a standby state that lets you unplug it from the Extreme N or Time Capsule without harm, or turn off a Time Capsule without harming its internal drive."
It would probably be prudent to wait a few seconds after disconnecting all users before unplugging a drive.
I have no financial connection to Take Control Books.

My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode as well as the DFU? mode and it still will not work. I have the latest version of iTunes on my Mac. My error code was 2002. I also tried it on my laptop (windows 8.1) and none of the above worked. My error code on my laptop was 02. The phone is through Verizon and it has absolutely no damage. It was working fine up until this and I have been trying to fix it for 2 days. Please help! I am unsure of what version the phone was currently running on before this because I have another iphone that's my primary phone and have not used this one in about a month. I do not believe it was updated to IOS 7.

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

I was updating my iPhone 4S to the iOS 7 system. During update my phone froze. It's stuck on insert USB cable connect to itunes screen. I've already tried turning my phone off holding Home key while inserting my cord into phone and nothing worked. I've tried DFU mode and that wont work either. What the heck do I do now? So annoyed with this.

I've also restarted my computer and still nothing.

How do I switch my phone to transfer mode when USB is connected to my computer?

you should get a notification at the top of the screen for a usb connection. pull it down & select mass storage.
in my computer or windows explorer, you'll see motorola as the next available drive after the hard drive, cd, dvd, etc.
click to open & the sd card can be viewed.

This didn't work for me, so I did a bit of searching and TONS of pages later in google, I found an answer. Here are the steps for people who also were in my situation:
    1. Take off bottom case
    2. Unplug battery - blurry image here: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/03cC79r5Dx4/0.jpg
    3. Press and hold power button for 5 seconds
    4. Plug a charger in, and it should start booting up
    5. After shutting down again, reconnect the battery and close the case up
    6. It works! (hopefully, if you guys had the same situation I did)

  • Nokia Lumia 630 phone connection with USB cable an...

Kindly be advised that I have been able to easily connect my Nokia E6 in the past to my Lenovo Thinkpad T530 running Windows 7 (64 bit) via Nokia Suite and Windows Explorer by both Bluetooth and the USB cable and was able to see the D and E drives (e.g. mass storage and phone memory) of such Nokia phones.
Since I connected my new Nokia Lumia 630 to the same notebook computer, the bluetooth phone appear under Bluetooth devices and music and sound can be relayed between the computer and the phone, however, no files structures are being displayed under such phone connection in Windows Explorer during a Bluetooth connection.  During a USB Cable connection at least the documents and photos folders appear in Windows Explorer but nothing else on the D or E drives are displayed.
Even the Zune (the Nokia PC Suite replacement) does not want to even connect with the phone device from the notebook!
Kindly advise why I am unable to access the Nokia Lumia 630's full mass store and phone memory via BlueTooth or USB Cable from my Lenovo Thinkpad T530 running Windows 7 (64 bit) ?

Zune was targeted towards Windows Phone 7. It got replaced by the Windows Phone app for desktop – which does not give any more feature than you have already.
    Jonkie wrote:

Windows Phone 8.1 does not support the Bluetooth profile OBEX File Transfer (FTP) as Symbian did, yet. Because this is a feature request, there you go …

D or E drives are [not] displayed.
What files are missing, what do you expect exactly? Then, I look-up the corresponding feature request.

  • Can't access a USB Drive connected to Time Capsule from a Windows PC.  Apple Care can't/won't assist.  HELP!!!

Trying to get my Windows 7 PC to access the USB Drive that is connected to my Time Capsule.  I have a Fat32 Formatted USB drive connected to a 2TB Time Capsule and I'm trying to get access to that drive from a Windows 7 PC.  I've attempted to map the network drive (based on some 3-4 year old articles I could find online) but any time I access a file from the PC, the Time Capsule "freaks out" and disconnects all connections to it which forces me to unplug it to restart the Tim Capsule.  I'm at a loss now as to what to do.
Spent a few hours talking to Apple about this and much more.  Apple Care can't or won't help with this particular problem (the guy I talked to, as nice and helpful as he wanted to be, had no experience supporting their hardware in a Windows environment).
Someone has to know how to fix this so, PLEASE, help if you can!

First off, Archon23, what you want to achieve is possible.  I have access to both my Time Capsule (TC) and the USB drive connected to it, from a Win. 7 and Win. XP machine.
Here is what I see from the Windows side of things:
From My Computer - TC USB Drive (Y)
From Windows HomeNet - Time Capsule:
Now getting there is the trick.
One caveat before proceeding:  I am not well versed in Windows Networks, Windows Sharing and Firewall settings so some of the following may not be elegant, may not be absolutely required, and may not be the best way of getting there.  But it is what I did to see both the TC drive and it's attached USB  drive on the Windows side of my network..
1.) First, I added Airport Utility to the Inbound rules of Win 7 Firewall
While poking around my Network Sharing and Firewall settings trying to figure this out, I got a Pop-up recommending I do that.  AND I did that. Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you have a Home network established.
2.) Next, on a hunch, I installed a USB Wi-Fi Adapter (under $20) to my Win PC, enabled that Wi-Fi connection and disabled my Ethernet connection.  I was getting no where on this matter with my Ethernet connection to a DSL Gateway.  But with a Wi-Fi connection to my AirPort Express Base Station, I made progress.
3.) Finally, while poking around my Network Sharing Center some more, one by one I started the various network device Setup Wizards in there, and Trouble Shooters, to find the elusive TC/USB devices in question...AND voila, it worked.   And it's stable, been this way for going on two weeks now.
    Good luck.

  • USB drive connected to airport i cant see it??

Hello all, i have an airport extreme. network is all setup fine. I have a USB drive connected to the airport setup for timemachine backups. What i would do is turn it on every week for the day and all my mac would backup to it. Last night i turn it on for my backups and none of my macs seems to be able to find it. Well today right out of the blue the imac suddenly sees it and runs a backup. But i cant see it with the macbook pro. I double checked the setting on the airport and dont see anything out of place. I can however see the drive in finder but when i click on it system tells me it cant connect. Any suggestions?

Apple is now forcing me to purchase a time capsule as they do not support puggin in a USB drive.
it's not new. this information has been available for some time.
    Now this worked perfectly
it did (and does) so for many users. it just means is that, if you run into problems (as you do now), there will be no support from Apple.
I now have to physically connect my usb drive to each of my computers to have them back up?
no. you'd connect the drive to one machine and let the other Macs back up to it via your network.
    printer i suppose ?
yes. and HD's for sharing files across your network - just not for TM backups !

  • Bricked external Hard Drive, Can't Force Unmount or Erase

I have manage to brick a 1TB Western Digital USB 3 drive. I have all my data backed up, so I just need to reformat and repartition it. No big deal typically, however it appears I've done something terrible to this particular drive. Here are the things I've tried and how they've failed:
    * Use Disk Utility to erase drive (multiple formats selected)
         * Disk Erase failed - Couldn't unmount disk
    * Force unmount using terminal command "sudo diskutil unmountDisk force /dev/disk3
*Failed - unable to unmount disk
    * Restart in safe mode and attempt to force unmount disk using same terminal command
*Failed - unable to unmount disk
    * Restart in recovery, launch terminal, attempt to force unmount disk using same terminal command
         * Failed - unable to unmount disk
    * While in recovery terminal, attempt to erase disk using "diskutil eraseVolume JHFS+ NewDisk /dev/disk3"
         * Failed - couldn't unmount disk
    * While in recover terminal, attempted to erase individual partitions using "diskutil eraseVolume JHFS+ NewDisk disk3s2"
         * Failed -Different error this time!!! - Couldn't open disk
Apparently, the entirety of the internet is out of ideas at this point, or at least no one has ever had this level of trouble before now. Any help anyone is willing to offer is much appreciated. If I have to take the hard drive apart and move some dip switches - whatever. At this point I just want to solve this on principle, as the drive has no physical damage, just a jacked up partition that is, apparently, un-erasable. I'm losing my mind a little bit, because I can't think of good reason for why this could happen. Thanks in advance

Have you tried DiskWarrior? A few years ago it worked for me and they keep it updated.

  • Altell USB Internet Connect Card connection Problem

    Altell USB Internet Connect Card
My daughter is using and Alltel , UT Star Com, UM 175 wireless connect card on a iMac G5 with OS 10.4.6. She had a good internet connection for two days, then nothing since. She has had many phone tech assistance with Alltel, but still unable to reconnect.
In System preferences it shows that she is connected via “Pan Tech USB Modem” port 777. She is getting good signal strength with send and receive signal and connect time. However, when using Safari and Mail app she is unable to connect to the internet.
It seems to me that the problem lies within the set=up between the iMac and Alltel card. The card seems to be making the connection, but for some reason the computer can’t realize that this card is the way to the internet. Safari brings up the usual “you are not connected to the Internet”, then the diagnostics application that guides you through troubleshooting with the usual questions, none of which include a wireless USB connection.
Is there some other thing she needs to do for her iMac to recognize the Altell card?

I just gave up on this problem and went in another direction

    Try this: rename/remove wdf01000.sys from windows\system32\drivers\
Next time you plug your phone, the USB Phone Parent driver will be automatically installed (or upgrade drivers from Device Manager in Control Panel > System > Hardware. If not, try to uninstall all nokia apps (pc suite, etc), rename the file above, then install the nokia apps.
