Force user to connect to specific Persistent Chat server

We plan to have 2 persistent chat servers in a single pool that will span 2 sites.
1 Persistent Chat server in Site A
1 Persistent Chat server in Site B
Is there a way to force users in Site A to connect to the Persistent Chat server in Site A and for users in Site B to connect to the Site B Persistent Chat server?

That is possible.
For example, you have on DNS server DC01 in site A, and you only have a DNS A record point to the IP address of persistent chat server in site A, then you use DC01 as the DNS server for users in site A.
You have on DNS server DC02 in site B, and you only have a DNS A record point to the IP address of persistent chat server in site B, then you use DC02 as the DNS server for users in site B.
But it is not recommended. If one persistent server is down, users in one site won’t have group chat feature.

  • Lync 2010 client connecting to 2013 persistent chat server

Since we never had Group Chat in our 2010 environment, I have no idea how it works and now that we have 2013 Persistent Chat, I am struggling with getting the Lync 2010 connected. The 2013 client works just fine as it is integrated into the client. I found
out Lync 2010 needs a separate Chat client to run along side the IM client.
I installed this client but from there I have no idea how to connect it to the 2013 Chat server. I created the endpoint on the Lync 2013 server according to the article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx but something else needs to be done. I just don't know what. Not even sure where to start looking. Many of our Lync clients have
to use 2010 because the OS is XP so I need to find out how to get these users to work with Persistent Chat.
I am not sure what the point is of creating the End point according to the article. I am sure its necessary but not sure how it fits into the clients using it to connect. What does the article mean when it says "Next, configure Persistent Chat clients
to use that SIP address as their contact object". Do you need Group Chat functioning in 2010 for this to even work?
The problem is we never had Group Chat with 2010 so I am sure there are some settings missing like DNS records etc...

If you have users running legacy clients (such as Microsoft Lync 2010 these users might find the default Persistent Chat URIs difficult to work with and difficult to use when pointing their legacy client towards the pool. Because of this,
administrators need to use the New-CsPersistentChatEndpoint cmdlet to create an additional contact object for the pool, a contact object that provides a friendlier, easier-to-use URI.

  • Force users to connect to the cable LAN?

    Hi everyone!
I am a IT-administrator at a school in Norway with at least 470 computers in total. We use ZENworks 11 on about 350 of them.
The largest problem for us is to make sure everyone using their laptop, connects to the local cable network at out school, so the computer get windows updates, policies, upgrades and other software installations and reports. About 60% of the laptops is never using the local cable network.. this is a problem since we are controlling the computers through Zenworks agent (patch, and so on)
And if they are on the local cable network, they only use their local user, so that the policies and so on published with zenworks or active directory is never updated. This is a security issue for us!
Is there a policy or similar to force users to connect to the local cable network, meaning: If f.ex they do not connect to this network within 30 days, the local user will be disabled (not the built-in local administrator) or anything that forces the user to contact the IT-department to enable the computer again?

  • High availability for Lync 2013 persistent chat server and office web app server

I have 1500 users, need HA in primary data center and DR also. looking for HA and DR solution for persistent chat server and office web app server.
    is below correct?
    1. 2 persistent chat server in a pool of primary data center and 1 in DR.  can this be reduced or any changes?
    2. 2 Office web app server in a pool of primary data center and 1 in DR.  can this be reduced or any changes?
also do i need HLB for both roles?

    1) In Lync Server 2013, there are improvements in both high availability and disaster recovery:
High availability improvements: SQL Server mirroring is used to provide high availability for the Persistent Chat Server content database and Persistent Chat compliance database within a data center (in-site).
Disaster recovery improvements: Persistent Chat Server supports a stretched pool architecture that enables a single Persistent Chat Server pool to be stretched across two sites (that is, a single logical pool in the topology, with servers in the pool physically
located across two sites). SQL Server Log Shipping is used for cross-site disaster recovery.
For more information about high availability and disaster recovery, see
Configuring Persistent Chat Server for High Availability and Disaster Recovery in the Deployment documentation.
    2) for HA & DR, you can 2 Office web app server in a pool of primary data center and 1 in DR. and You will need HLB for office web app servers

  • Windows SMB users cannot connect to 10.5.4 server

    Hi all,
Have a server running 10.5.4 bound to AD and running an OD to provide management of the Macs. Pretty standard setup and haven't had any problems elsewhere with the same deployment. However we're having a problem with XP users connecting to SMB shares. Mac users can connect over AFP or SMB fine, XP users are getting a "Network path could not be found" error. What's more the errors in the SMB log on the server aren't too descriptive. We're getting a few broken pipe errors, but no indication of what's causing that. XP machines don't appear to be getting to the authentication stage.
Server is an Xserve with a Promise RAID, shares are on a 4TB partition, bound to AD (OD not running Kerberos). SMB setup seems to be correctly aware of the AD.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

Is your SMB a Standalone or Domain Member?
I have a similar problem and noticed that if I change SMB from "Domain Member" to Standalone Windows users can connect. Now every so often Leopard Server will change SMB back to a Domain Member (automatically).
I have the Server bound to AD. AFP works for the Macs no matter what. Mac Users authenticate to AD and mount the share. However if they try to use SMB, it fails for the Macs as well if SMB is a Domain Member.
I would like to stop Leopard from not reverting back or fix the "domain member" problem.
The fact that I can connect while it's a Standalone suggests, to me, that it's not a permissions problem. As well the failure carries to the Mac side means it's not a Windows issue.

  • Users cannot connect to Open Directory Leopard server

Just testing Leopard server and running into all sorts of problems...
Clean install of Leopard Server running DNS, AFP and Open Directory.
Set up DNS first and checked both forward and reverse look-up was correct.
Promoted to Open Directory master from Standalone.
Created two test user accounts (without Home directories) and gave them access to a specific sharepoint.
Setup LDAP on the client machine (Leopard client) and could see the user accounts in the Directory app.
Try to log in.....'username or password incorrect'.
Check the OD logs and cannot find any reference to the attempted log-in.
I understand that it appears that user accounts require a Home Directory in Leopard, regardless of whether you actually want one (I don't). I tried creating a home directory using Workgroup Manager but as noted in other threads, the 'create home directory' button doesn't work.
I then created a home directory via the command line for one of the user accounts but am still unable to log-in.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

This may be a stupid question but have you run sudo chown on the user's home directory after creating it?
I had the same problem and my solution is posted here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1290158&tstart=0
Let me know if that works. If not, we'll work on it together.

  • External users cannot manage a persistent chat rooms - result in "Internal Server Errors"

  • Getting the Lync 2010 client to use 2013 Persistent Chat

We are migrating to Lync 2013 from 2010 and just testing the 2013 environment right now with a few users. Only thing left I need to configure is getting the Lync 2010 client to connect to the 2013 Persistent Chat server. Most of our users are Windows XP
so they can only use the 2010 client.
We did not have Group Chat prior to this so Persistent Chat is new to everyone. I created the Persistent Chat Endpoint in Lync 2013 per the article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx but now what.
The article tells you how to create the endpoint but that's it. What else is needed. Does a Lync user in 2013 need to exist that matches the SIP addresses in the command? The icon for Persistent Chat is not showing up in the Lync 2010 client so something
    is missing.

You still need this endpoint, as long you will Need Lync 2010 Chat clients. Without this endpoint, you will be able to login but could not find any chat rooms.
For login you use your normal Lync credential. Lync Chat server has not deployed before.
Have you  test to use the Pchat with this user on a Lync 2013 client?

  • Persistent Chat (Lync Server 2013) with Lync 2010 Group Chat

I have successfully deployed Lync Server 2013 and both 2013 and 2010 desktop clients connect and function as expected.
The problem is with Persistent Chat. It works perfectly with the 2013 desktop client but - whilst 2010 Group Chat connects - I receive the error message "The [LOGON_DOMAIN] is not available". No chat rooms are available and I am unable to search.
I have been unable to locate anything on the web which discusses the problem.
I do not know whether this makes a difference but the 2010 clients use terminals rather than dedicated workstations.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be?

Have you created a CsPersistentChatEndpoint to allow the Group Chat client (2010) to connect to Persistent
Chat server? Please take a look at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx

  • Error when publishing topology after adding persistent chat

    Hello everyone.
I could use some help, if anyone has some pointers.
I have Lync 2013 Standard running perfectly - everything works fine (a/v, chat, app sharing, etc).
I want to add a persistent chat server, so I set up a Lync Enterprise FE server and created a new pool.
I set up a SQL 2012 Server for the backend, and created a separate instance for Chat. I changed the ports in SQL manager, opened the ports, added the FQDN as a C Name to DNS. Added it to Lync.
Every time I try to publish the topology, I get an error that the machine I'm publishing isn't found in AD.
(If I remove the chat server, I can publish the topology without issue.)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Candee

I'm a little confused.  Did you set up a Lync Enterprise Front end just for persistent chat or for another reason?  You wouldn't need a separate FE pool which is what confused me there.
Why are you using a DNS CNAME?  Is that for the SQL server?  Why not just use the real FQDN?  If you're using a cname in the topology builder, than that's likely why it's complaining, because there's no AD object with that actual
    name in AD.
I might have misunderstood though, can you clarify?

  • Group Chat 2007 to Lync Persistent Chat 2013

Ok I have migrated the rooms over from OCS 2007 R2 Group Chat to Lync 2013 Persistent Chat server successfully. However I need to copy the attachments over and other data. I hope this is an easy question because Microsoft does not actually say where to copy
the files too. Can someone tell me where to copy the attachment files and other data on the new Persistent Chat server so that we can access attachments in the new persistent chat server?
    LyncAdmin

Lync 2013 Persistent Chat cannot view or upload files to chat rooms so this is only needed if OCS 2007 R2 Group Chat clients will still be used after the migration
    Stop Lync persistent Chat service
copy files from the Group Chat file store.
    xcopy \\<IP Address>\c$\OCSChatWebService \\domain.net\lyncfs\1-PersistentChatService-2\PersistentChat /E /H /Y
Start the Lync 2013 Persistent Chat service

  • Persistent chat lync 2013

    hi
i follow microsoft book to train Lync 2013
for deployment persistent chat after built topology builder
I open lync wizard and click "Install or update Lync Server system"
after run Setup or Remove lync server component i got below error
    please help

    Hi,
If it is a Lync Standard Edition, Persistent Chat Server can be deployed on the Standard Edition server. The Persistent Chat Server Back End Server and the Persistent Chat Compliance database can be collocated on the Standard Edition server on the
local SQL Server Express Back End Server.
If you collocate the Persistent Chat database with the back-end database, you can either use a single instance of SQL Server for any or all of the databases, or you can use a separate instance of SQL Server for each database, with
    the following limitation:
Each instance of SQL Server can contain only a single back-end database and a single Persistent Chat database.
So we do not recommend collocating the Persistent Chat database with the back-end database.
    More details:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398500.aspx
From your description, you collocate Persistent Chat database with the back-end database.
You can refer to the link below which installed Persistent Chat database on the same SQL backend database as the front-end server:

  • Where can I put the Pers. Chat database? On SQL Express on the Pers. Chat server?

I am rolling out a deployment of Lync 2013 with a Standard Edition server.  The Planning tool recommended that I have a separate Persistent Chat server rather than collocated it on the SE server.  If I make a separate PC server, we don't have
a SQL Backend server to put the DB on since our users will be on a SE server.
My question is, can I either put the PC Database on the PC server or the SE server?  Or will I have to provision a backend SQL instance just for PC?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Thanks Raju.
I think we're going to cram it onto the SE server rather than make a whole SQL backend server just for persistent chat.
Since this is a small deployment, it recommends a standard edition server in the Planning Tool yet recommends a separate PC and SQL servers.  I now plan on collocating both PC and PC DB on the SE.
    I appreciate your help!

  • Windows 7 Pro Client loses connectivity to internal Win2k8 web server

    1. affected workstation are Optiplex 380 running Win 7 pro sp1 with broadcom NICs.
    2. Internal users use a internal webserver for customer invoicing application. Users lose connectivity to this internal web server, all other networking works, network shares, internet, etc. If I try to ping the webserver IP I get no reply. XP
machines are not affected. Not a DHCP issue as there are plenty of IPs.
    3. I have tried different internal NICs (3com) but still had issue. I have upgraded BIOS, nic drivers. etc.
    4. I rebuilt one of the machines using Windows XP pro sp3 and have had no issue with that workstation.
the problem started a few months or so ago. I have not been able to determine the source. I tried running wireshark but nothing stuck out. I have changed the session settings on the IIS server from 15 minutes to 6 hours but did not make a difference.
    5. Today when client lost connectivity to the server I tried pinging from the server back to the client and the connection was restored. This issue really has me confused as I cannot find anything in the logs that sticks out.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
