Forced TLS mail flow behavior in EOP
Does forced TLS email behave the same as normal email in EOP? Same retry intervals? Same time-out?
Does anyone know where I can find out this information?
Thanks

EOP inbound connector required forced TLS for on-premise Exchange?
We purchased EOP spam protection for an on-premise Exchange 2010 environment. Inbound email is currently flowing through EOP to their exchange just fine, but we don't have them routing outbound email back through EOP due to the TLS certificate setting.
We would like to point their Exchange send connector smarthost to EOP for best practice. EOP documentation states we must use Forced TLS and a certificate name for the inbound connector. The documentation falls short here and I need
some help getting TLS setup on the on premise exchange. Is it required to use Forced TLS or can we change to opportunistic TLS like the EOP outbound connector? We currently only have a SSL certificate for their OWA set to mail.domain.com.
Is that what I use as the TLS certificate name? Can someone point me in the right direction here? Thanks.Hi,
you don't need TLS to send mails over EOP if you use it as smarthost.
Greetings

Outbound Mail Flow (bypass EOP for particular Domain)
We have on-premises Exchange 2007/2013 Servers. And have hosted mail protection (Exchange Online Protection). Side note - 2007 servers being retired soon. Our mail is routed via EOP etc.
One of our members of staff is starting to use a goverment secure mail service. This involves setting up a POP3 account on the users Outlook.
It has to be configured to send over SMTP using SSL.
Getting an error saying the connection encryption type is not supported when doing the send test (receives OK).
Upon checking with the Support for the service, routing mail through Office365 will not work. We need to route the mail directly.
This is probably a newbie question but how do I do that? Do I create a new send connector and define the particular domain in there? would I use my ISPs smart host address?
It's just for sending mail, as I say the POP3 account is receiving OK using the POP3 settings.

Yes, define a send connector for the recipients address SMTP scope.
You wouldnt need to smarthost necessarily, you could simply set it to use the MX record.

Hello all
Currently all of our mailboxes are located in O365. Our MX records point to EOP, and we have Centralized mail transport enabled. This means that all emails sent from mailboxes in O365 are
routed from EOP to On-prem, and then from on-prem to the intended recipient. The email flow is below. From my understanding when a transport rule exist in EOP that has a address space of * (all domains) that this transport rule will take precedence over all
other transport rules. Example is if i create a transport rule that uses MX record lookup to send emails to Yahoo.com, and i also have a transport rule that has an address space of * and uses a smarthost, the email sent to Yahoo.com will be sent using
the connector that has an address space of *. Also as i said earlier all mailboxes are hosted in O365, if i need to send forced TLS to a certain domain, and because we have Centralized mail transport enabled then where should i configure the forced TLS?
it doesn't make sense to try and configure this in EOP because all emails go through on-prem first. If you look at my below routing hops the last hop the email takes before it leaves the environment is the Symantec SMG servers. I think this is where
i would need to configure foreced TLS to external domains.
user in O365 sends email to @gmail.com
EOP----->on-prem Hybrid Server------->Symantec SMG server------->@Gmail.com
Bulls on ParadeThank you. One more question for you. Regarding the sending server, do the names in the cert (CN) also need to be available on the internet? example send connector is configured to use forced TLS to BofA.com the send connectors that used to send email to
BofA.com cert is a self signed cert. Does the Receiving server at BofA.com need to verify the name in the cert that was used to send the email to BofA.com ?
Thank you again

Iphone mail app regularly requires restart to get mail flowing???
Anyone seeing this issue? Advice re how to fix?
My iphone mail app regularly requires restart to get mail flowing. That is it is running (doesn't crash) but will at time just stop getting email updates. I then have to force close the mail app (i.e. kill it) and then restart it. After restarting it the mail flows again.
Notes:
a) I do connect to Gmail for my mail - I'm using the IMAP facility for gmail currently (i.e. not the "Exchange" method)
b) I do also have the Google "Gmail" app running on my device too
c) on iPhone 3GS, latest version of IOSI have this same problem too. I have both a hotmail and work Microsoft Exchange account setup on my iPhone and have intermitent issues with both. Sometimes the hotmail push works, but my work email doesn't push, other times it's backwards, and sometimes neither work. I can't figure it out. Usually restarting the app (closing out of the multitasking bar), and/or going into settings and disabling the affected mail account works. And to top it, I have an iPad, I'll hear the mail chime go off on my iPad, expecting it to go off on my phone....and it never does, not until I manually fetch it.
Very frustrating. -
Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 mail flow?
We are planning to migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
I understand that we need to upgrade the CAS to 2013 for Internet Facing.
What about mail flow. Currently, Internet mail flows to Exchange 2010 (single site). Can I keep it for sometime after introducing 2013 and do the cutover of HUB once all the mailboxes are moved to 2013? Or I have to get the mail flow to 2013 first.
Also, how does HUB 2010 transfer mail or receive mail from 2013? Does it get from the CAS proxy in 2013 or from HUB?
Thanks!!!Yes, you can. But my preference is to move the mail routing early in the migration, usually even before moving mailboxes, because I believe it reduces the risk of a service interruption.
I believe it goes through the front-end transport on the CAS, since that is the TCP port 25 service.

Exchange 2013 Mail Flow Through VPN
I have 2 Exchange servers in 2 different AD sites. Is it possible to route mail flow between the 2 sites through a VPN tunnel? I want to force mail flow between the 2 servers to route externally through the internet.
Appreciate any feedback.Hi Chester,
we have a DNS record for mail and this record is pointing to our private IP address of CAS server. Network team has done network configuration for that particular IP to route the traffic through VPN tunnel to the Exchange servers in other site. Another thing
for you to think is Private IP request won't go to internet and will go to DNS server in that site and once the DNS server will resolve that request against IP address the traffic will be routed to that server.
Kindly mark this as answer if found helpful. Thanks.

Cross-Site Mail Flow Through Internet
Hi,
I have typical Exchange 2013 servers deployed in 2 AD sites. Currently, mail flow between the 2 sites are going through our WAN. Is there a way to force mail flow between the 2 sites to go through the internet?Hi Chester,
Create send connector pointing to the internet gateway or edge server for each AD site Exchange server separately and on the default receive connector instead of all ip address ..customize to the exchange server specific ip address that are located in the
same site...this will not allow the mail flow across the WAN and it uses the internet route for mail routing across the site..

ACTIVE DIRECTORY TRUST CONFLICT AND INTERDOMAIN MAIL FLOW
Old AD Forest: abc.com Win 2003 R2
Existing Exchange: Exch 2007 SP3
Exchange Server contains the domains like aaa.com, bbb.com, ccc.com so on and so forth
Created new AD Domain ccc.com
Deployed Exchange 2013 SP1
Trust created with conflict. the conflicting object is ccc.com in both ADs
I can send emails from new exchange organization to aaa.com, bbb.com, etc except to ccc.com user in abc.com
Kindly suggest how to enable mail flow
RegardsExchange e-mail domains don't have to be the same as active directory domains. Exchange processes mail based on accepted domains, connector address spaces, and recipient addresses. Just creating a domain doesn't do anything to create recipients
in Exchange with the domain's address. It sounds like you need to add ccc.com as an accepted domain, and maybe create an e-mail address policy for the recipients in that domain and/or manually add ccc.com addresses to recipients.

Establish mail flow from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013
I am currently using Exchange 2007 into three sites in three cities and two of the sites are connected to Internet sending and receiving emails via Edge transport servers.
Now I am planning to upgrade to exchange 2013 CU1. I don't find any documentation on how to establish mail flow between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013. Will it be automatic or do i need to create specific connectors between them? Was this question answered. We're in the same situation now as we're upgrading to Exchange 2013 from 2007. The latest CU certainly helped. Initially the test mailboxes on Exchange 2013 couldn't email each other - This was resolved with CU7 and
using "Custom Settings" - manually entered IPs for DNS in the Exchange Admin Center "DNS Lookups".
Issue at the moment Test mailboxes on Exchange 2013 cannot email mailboxes on 2007 or visa-versa and mail from external sources queues on the 2007 box.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. -

How to force a Mail account to use IMAP instead of POP?
I'm trying to setup a new mail account on my wife's iPhone 3G (4.2.1) and after putting in the in initial info (name, e-mail address, password), Mail picks up the POP server information (which is valid), but I don't want to use POP, I want to use IMAP. I know that the account supports IMAP as it's configured and working in Outlook. Changing the incoming server from pop.netcabo.pt to imap.netcabo.pt (which I know is the correct server) does nothing, it still functions as a POP server.
I know that in some cases a big IMAP/POP selection button appears at the top of the mail configuration screen but in this case it doesn't. There appears to be no way to force iPhone Mail to use IMAP.
The only way I know to get around this, which is a pain in the ***, is to configure the account as IMAP in OS X Mail and then sync the account to the iPhone, but I don't want to go there if I don't have to.If your having problems getting your Apple Mail or Mac Mail to sync across your devices, I thought this might be helpful. It could be because you have your email accounts set up with POP rather than IMAP configuration. Try this solution.
I had set up my gmail account a long time ago (5 years) before I know the differnce between POP and IMAP. IMAP allows you to sync across devices... POP is OLD SCHOOL technology of the 90's. Now that I know better, and have more than one device I want to sync, so I want to change the settings in mac mail to convert the gmail emails from a POP account type to an IMAP accont type, but I cannot afford to loose all of my previous emails that I'd saved (100's of them), which is what will happend if you delete this account to start anew.
Odly, even after I set up the email as IMAP in gmail, it still did not update the account type in Apple Mail. Apparently this has to be done from scratch.
!.WARNING, BEFORE PROCEDING THROUGHT THE FOLLOWING, BACK UP YOUR MAC.!
What worked for me was actually rather simple, but to be safe BACK UP.
Note: It did dissassociate all of my "Signatures" but did not erase them from my email acconts (I have 14 email accounts with google apps). Your exprience could be different, so please ba safe and back up.
1) First I dissabled the existing email account in my Apple Mail program.
2) Then recreated the account from scratch as an IMAP.*
* Be sure to change the account to an IMAP in gmail first (Click the Gear on the right > Settings > Forwarding & POP IMAP > Disable POP then Enable IMAP
***Deactivating took the account out of view (hidden) but retained all of the saved emails from the past. At the same time it allowed me to recreate the account in Apple Mail from scratch and it auto pulled up the IMAP configuration, with the same gmail account I was using before set up as POP. ***
Now I'm left with the best of both worlds and all syncs perfectly.
Just don't forget and accidentally delete the inactive account, or you will lose ALL of the emails you saved during the time when the old POP email account was active.
Good Luck! -
Exchange 2013 upgrade from 2010 and no mail flow and cannot move mailboxes
I am in the process of moving to Ex 2013 from 2010. I have installed Ex 2013 SP1 on a new server 2012 R2. All of my Ex 2010 servers are SP3 RU 5. Ex 2013 is running and I can connect through the EAC and see all other Exchange servers and connectors that
were already in existence. Several puzzling things are happening now that the servers are in coexistence:
1) As soon as Ex 2013 was installed on the network, many Outlook users are continuously being prompted to enter their domain credentials. They can cancel the prompt and Outlook still sends/receives email. No user mailboxes are on Ex 2013 yet.
Why is this happening?
2) I am following the Ex 2013 Deployment Assistant and I get to the step to move the Ex 2010 Arbitration mailbox to Ex 2013 and the move does not happen--it just says "syncing" and never completes. I tried moving a test mailbox from Ex 2010
to the 2013 database and I get the same result. I created the move request on the Ex2013 server and I see it as queued on the Ex2010 server, so I know they are "talking" to each other. However, when reviewing the status of the move I
see "MapiExceptionNoAccess: Unable to open message store".
3) There seems to be no mail flow on the same Ex2013 server or between the Ex 2010 and 2013 servers. I created two new test user mailboxes in Ex 2013. The Ex2013 mailboxes cannot send/receive to each other or to Ex 2010 users. This
seems strange, unless I am completely missing something in the Ex 2013 install?
I know this is a lot in one post, but following the Deployment assistant, I was hoping this would be something that others have faced. Thanks for any input here.Does the below points already fit for you.

Have to force-quit Mail - Update did not fix
The update seemed to fix all of the issues I had with SL, except for the spinning wheels in Mail, and that Mail will not quit without a force-quit. It will even cancel a restart. Am I the only one left with this issue?
Problem
Here is what is happening. Btw I am using a Dutch version so my apologies if I translate menu-options wrong.
Mail is opened at startup. When I want to quit (CMD-Q) mail, nothing happens and the program gets in a sort of wait state. The system doesn't say that mail is not responding anymore. When I open the Mail-menu several options are greyed-out, including the CMD-Q as if the program is waiting for something. After waiting 15 minutes still the same and the only way to end mail is by using the force quit option.
If Mail is opened and I use the red X to close the window it isn't possible to open it anymore. Stopping the normal way isn't possible either and I am in the same situation as above and need to force-quit Mail.
If I leave Mail open and want to shutdown the computer I have to force quit Mail, because otherwise I cannot shutdown anymore.
*Solutions I've tried*
Using the Rebuild menu-option doesn't help.
I have downloaded the complete 10.6.2 dmg-file and re-installed it. This seemed to fix the problem, at least for a little while. But unfortunately after a day the same problem came back
How can this be possible?
Is there anyone out there who has the same problem and knows how to fix this? Would it help to re-install the mailprogram? How do I do this?
This is happening on the new computer of my father. I have convinced him to make the switch from Windows, but this situation is making me feel a bit embarrassed -
External Mail Flow not coming into Exchange 2013 Server
We just finished migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and when I disable a certain receive connector on Exchange 2007 we stop receiving external emails. I have reviewed all of the Exchange 2013 Receive Connectors and everything looks to be fine
but the server does not get mail flow. If anyone could assist with this issue that would be great.
Thanks,
RyanHi,
According to your description, all your inbound mails cannot be received in your Exchange 2013 server after you disable a receive connector in your Exchange 2007 server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, since your MX record has been configured properly for your Exchange 2013 server, we can begin with checking the A record for the Exchange 2013 server and confirm if all external mails cannot come in your organization. And we can depend on the following
troubleshooting to narrow down the mail flow issue:
1. Check the NDR information if there is NDR.
2. Check Telnet to test the mail flow:
