Forced to use all the same versions in suite?
Just wondering... If you are using the suite, are you forced to use all the same versions (ex CS3) of each of the programs in the suite? For example, if you want to upgrade to the CS4 suite (from CS3), but want to keep AfterEffects back at CS3.
No, this should be no problem. This is even in the license agreement. Direct copy & paste from the CS4 legal blurb (extract):
5. Updates.
If the Software is an upgrade or update to a previous version of Adobe software, you must possess a valid license to such previous version in order to use such upgrade or update. After you install such update or upgrade, you may continue to use any such previous version in accordance with its end-user license agreement...
The products remain their separate "suite" as mentioned previously with the limitations in interoparability I pointed out. The CS4 installer itself will not deactivate, delete or modify any CS3 products, only older Acrobat versions will be fully replaced by v9.

How do you use your pictures for web, iPad & smartphones? All the same size??
i realy think back and froth about this question.
i guess it makes sense - to use all the same size - because newest Ipads and Iphones are with retina-screens !??
on the other hand i use background-pictures for the website with a lenght of 1800px (it's 400 kbit) so it may slow down my the mobile version
but i know , people always scroll and zoom into evrything with an Ipad and smartphone ... So what to do? What is your hint ?

I am trying to run Firefox inside of VMware Workstation V8 in Widows 7 and Fusion V4 in Mac OS X 10.7.2.
I first tried to restore a working profile backup of Firefox made with FEBE in windows inside of VMWARE, when I load Firefox more that half of the plugins that were working in Windows and OS X natively, are reporting as not compatible with this (V7.0.1) Firefox and will not update to a working version, as in many cases they are the latest version anyway.
Also it is inconsistent, as i have tried several times to install Firefox and restore the profile and each time it is not all the same plugins that are disabled and reporting as incompatible.
I have also tried to do a clean install of Firefox and going to the website and installing the plugins directly, and while i have not tried all of the disabled plugins, I am unable to install plugins that i am currently using in the same version of Firefox outside of VMware that are working and or can be installed when I am not running Firefox inside of VMware.If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I'm trying to get my itunes to go back to english but is coming up Russian on windows 7. I initally installed English version and about 6 months ago it came back Russian. It was English for over 2 yrs. I have use all the suggestion including unistall and reenstall of a new down load from apple.
I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!" -
Currently, I have 5 iPads used for the same purpose. Since the same data /application is shared among all of these iPads, is it alright for me "Backup" only 1 iPad instead of all 5? And if anything happens to any my iPads which I have not backed up, I can restore it from the iPad where I have save the Backup. I am hoping by doing so, I will also be able to save some icloud storage space. Let me know if my question is still not so clear to you guys. Thanks.

If I understand correctly you'd like to save iCloud storage space by only backing up 1 of the 5 iPads to your account since they are all going to have very similar data and usage. You certainly can do that, but I do have to warn you that any unique data between them would be lost if you had to restore from that one backup made on another iPad so just keep that in mind. If you do need to restore in the future you can use this article to restore that iCloud backup:

I am now using v3.6.8 and tried updating to v7.01 but it does not seem to work. Went to control panel to remove all the old versions but Firefox was not listed there although Thunderbird is there. Please advise asap, thanks
I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong during the uninstall/reinstall process. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
In the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, look for '''Mozilla Firefox'''. Make sure to save (do not delete) your personal settings when uninstalling.
If it isn't there, just try installing 3.6.23, which is the latest in the 3.6 family. You can download 3.6.23 here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older

We have 3 iphones in my family. With the new upgrade 5.1 all the batteries last for just half day in normal use. The same problem happens t a lot of friends of mine after the upgrade. Is it possible to remove the problem??? Thanx!

Why can't I restore the same version IOS that's on my phone?
My iPhone 4s has apps on it that are not iOS 6x or even 7x compatible. iTunes/Apple won't let me restore the same version of iOS 5 that is currently on my phone that won't boot up. I have no options anymore except to pay.
1. I can pay a developer to migrate the app I use for work to iOS7 and eventually run into the same problem later and pay AGAIN.
2. I can ditch Apple (because there is no logical reason for this) and pay to go over to a Google phone and pay to migrate my app over to android but have the peace of mind that I won't be forced to do what android wants me to do anymore.
I bought an iPhone, an iPhone 3G, an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4S. I don't like using the latest and greatest because I only really care about doing what *I* want to do with *MY* phone. I don't like being told I can't have what I've been using for the past 2 years because Apple has changed a policy or something.
Is Apple doing ANYTHING for people like me or are we just screwed? Can anyone explain why Apple would disallow reinstallation of an iOS i've been using for years now?if you're saying the default function of 'restore' has always been update to latest for your device you'd all be correct.. but that's not what i'm talking about. shift+click restore and you'll be prompted to browse for your firmware. since the dawn of the iphone (ask anyone that's actually used this feature) you have always been able to use this feature to install same-version ios as to what version is on the device. in the past it was more open, allowing you to update to any version above the one you're on, but that was taken away back in IOS3.. for example.
i'm sure for the average user who has no idea what version ios they use or want this would be completely transparent so i don't really blame you for not knowing or using this feature. for others like me this is a big deal. hopefully someone else who is on the same page as i am will chime in..
i think it's a little crazy to force your users to only use the specific version ios you want them to. have you tried ios7 on an ipad2? hello lag. there are more reasons than mine to want to be able to control what software runs on YOUR hardware.. think about it. -
What is "Force Re-Publish All The Slides?"

Can anyone explain when you would select the "Force Re-Publish All The Slides" option within Publish ?
I have a feeling it has something to do with a project that you have made changes to after you have already published it, and you have to tell Captivate to update the changes before you publish the project again - but having to select this as an option that does not make much sense.
Maybe I have got it wrong.
NoelPlease forgive the long rant...but I feel strongly about this one.
As a former Technical Author who worked for software companies, I agree with the sentiment that Captivate's software documentation could be more complete and more accurate. But, since my tiny little family company also now builds small bits of software (widgets) I'm also able to see Adobe's side of this current argument. We get lots of customers or potential customers that think we should build something THEY personally happen to want, regardless of the fact that it would cost us ten times as much to build it as they would be willing to pay for it. We pick our target features very carefully because otherwise we wouldn't make a dollar on widgets. (We can actually make 5 times as much money just spending the same time building courses for paying clients as what we can programming and selling widgets.)
So, like it or not, it's Adobe's development budget for CP and they really don't have to ask our permission to use it...even if we DO pay for their software...any more than Ford or Chrysler should ask my permission to build a new model with XYZ feature because I once bought a car from them. If Adobe ask my opinion about what I'd like to see in the next version, I readily give it to them. But that's a privilege they extend to me. It's not my right as a paying customer to demand they take my advice and build what I want them to. If I can make a good enough business case for a new feature I suggest, it might make it into the next version, but it might not because something or someone else has a better argument for where the money should go. Some of my suggestions ARE now in Captivate 6. A lot still aren't. I personally don't fret about that. I just get on with using the tool as best I can.
I even set up the Captivate6IdeaScale site just after Cp5.5 came out to give other users a more visible voice in what features they wanted to see. That site is still up. If you doubt that Adobe listens to its customers, go there and look at how many of the suggestions people posted are now in Captivate 6.
Honestly, no company wastes their development budget on things they KNOW will not work. But picking which features will sell a product and which ones won't is notoriously difficult. And whoever told you "The customer is always right" was lying to make a sale of some kind or has never studied some classic business successes and failures of the past. Predicting success is just NOT that easy, and customers are only experts about what THEY want, not what the overall market will respond to. Read some recent books about "Innovation" and you will see that we would not have many of the current products we enjoy if it were always just up to customers to predict what would work and what would not. Companies that can't get it right often enough go broke or get eaten by bigger fish. Customers that can't pick good products are what keep a lot of these hopeless companies in business longer than they should be. Take a good look at where Adobe is in the software world. They're not doing too bad. I certainly wish I owned the company.
At the moment a lot of what has gone into Captivate 6 has been about covering areas where Cp has been losing ground to other products. Themes, the new SCORM drivers, Avatars and Clip Art figures, improved video capture, are just a few examples. But I agree that Captivate 6 is having "teething problems" and I personally think it could have done with several more BETA versions before release. However, having been on the BETA program myself, I also think it's possible many of the issues we are now seeing would NOT have been revealed by several more BETA versions anyway because the BETA team simply cannot cover all of the use cases and platforms where bugs will show up. So getting the product out as quickly as possible (even though it was a dangerous gamble with stiff competition from Storyline now in the market) might in the long run have been the better move. Who am I to say? Which one of us has built or managed anything as big as Adobe, or even a product with as many users as Captivate so that we can sit in judgement of it? I personally just DON'T think my business skills are THAT good.
I'm not defending Cp bugs...I can give you a long list of the ones I would like to see fixed too. But anyone that has worked with Cp as long as I have is accustomed to seeing these sort of frustrated forum posts after every new version. Does this mean that Captivate is a shoddy product? I don't believe so. I also happen to have Storyline in my toolbox (just in case one of my clients asks for it) and after buying it I also watched the Articulate forums daily for a while. There were plenty of bugs being logged there too, despite the fact that SL went through about a dozen BETA versions before release. -
I just downloaded the latest version of firefox (5.0). Can I delete all the older versions that are still on my drive?
When I call up some web sites sometimes the web site comes up 3 or 4 times...how do I stop this from happening? For example if I click on a link the exact same link comes up 3 or 4 times and I have to manually delete all of them but one.Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive. -
How can I open multiple instances of the same version of FF?
I understand that if I have multiple profiles, I can run different versions of FF side-by-side (like 3.6 and 4).
However, what I'm interested in is how I can launch multiple instances of the same version of FF (4, for instance) using the same profile. In other words, I want to be able to double-click the desktop icon for FF, and open a new instance, and keep doing that as many times as I want. I don't want to have a different icon and profile for each instance (too much overhead to keep a dozen+ profiles in sync).
I can always launch one FF window instance, and then keep clicking ctrl+N to launch new instances from inside it, which they all share the same profile (as I want). So, basically, I want to be able to do that from my desktop icon, rather than by having to do it with the keyboard ctrl+N sequence.But I don't understand why whatever Firefox does when you click ctrl+N can't also be done (with some sort of command-line switch) from a desktop icon?
In other words, I clearly can create many FF instances (even if they are the same FF.exe process) by doing ctrl+n a bunch of times. Why then can't this behavior be done from a desktop icon with some parameters?
As far as I know, FF is the only browser that doesn't directly allow multiple browser instances from desktop icons. IE, Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc... all let me launch a new instance (even if they are all single process and the instances are shared within the process). -
I have used iTunes on a desk top with XP service pack 3 and have quite a bit of music on that computer. Recently purchased laptop with windows Premium Home and am now laoding iTunes on the laptop. How do I copy my music to the laptop and in the future how do I sync the music files on the two computers? Do I need the same version of itunes on both computers?
Quit iTunes on new computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /My Music/ on new computer.
Launch iTunes.
Thant is all you need to do. -
The current database is 2.5 gb, but it is already on SQL Server 2008, and doesn’t need to be upgraded.
In reading the documentation, it looks like the installer can install a fresh copy, which I’m assuming creates the requisite tables in the database. It can also update an existing install, along with updating the database table structure. What we weren’t sure of was if it could do a fresh install on a new server, but point to an database currently used by the older version of tidal. It does say ‘The database modifications are performed when the master is first started after the installation.’ in the upgrade section of 6.2.1 Quickstart Page 6-5. Hopefully that works regardless of if it was an upgrade or a fresh install.We worked with one of their partners gssinfotech to create a custom runbook for "upgrade in place"
I think you might have to go to SQL2012 with 6.2.1 (there's a ton of benefits like always on that make BCP/DR with Tidal very smooth.) We've been Tidal 6 /SQL2012 for a while now so I forget. we're about 80% done with our 5.3.1 conversion
We restore our 5.3.1 admiral database to a sandbox SQL2012 server, run some cleanup script (if not upgrade in place, don't forget to set queue to zero and disable all jobs)
We installed a tidal Master then run every major rev and point to that database. (6.0,6.1,6.2,6.2 sp1)
The database gets upgraded during the process (we have some trouble with our "older" 531 so we do the same thing each time)
We then can use transporter to transport "legacy" 531 jobs to our pristine Tidal 6.2.1 (non-prod ) environment so we can take advantage of mapping files, etc. to switch things as needed
This gives a lot of flexibility to moving things in when one piece or job set at a time.. we use it to move job frameworks into nonprod Tidal 6 so that developers and other groups can review / asses / rewrite / test / their jobs on tidal 6.

I'm using an iMac with the newest OS X Yosemite. I tried to reinstall Creative Cloud, removed all the programs. But I still get the 'old' 2014 version with the Lionhead, not the Sunglasses (october 2014) with interactive libraries. I use Adobe iPad apps, for instance Adobe Brush, Adobe Shape and Adobe Color and it's so great to have all the things you make with these apps in your Illustrator & Photoshop libraries. Somehow it worked om my laptop, but not om my home computer.
