Forced video help

I have a client that wants the learners for there video to be forced to watch it entirely when the slide comes up. So with that I have hidden the playbar and had the slide advance and show playbar on the next slide. Now they came back with a need to allow the learner to go back to the video but not be forced to watch it and allow them to scrub the timeline and skip out and return to the knowledge check at any time.
Can anyone help put me onto a solution so I can somehow track if the embedded video is watched and then allow system controls for that slide once achieved? I am using Captivate 8.

The problem is, there is no way to really track whether the video has been watched or not. There is no event that is triggered that tells Captivate a video has completed playing.
I think the best you will be able to do in this case is to create a variable, then check the variable on slide enter using an Advanced Action. Perhaps call it "video played" with an initial value of 0. Then on slide enter, check the value of the variable. If the value is 0, hide the controls. Then have another Advanced action at the slide end that sets the variable with a value of 1.
You might actually need two versions of the video on the slide. One with playback controls and one without. Show the one without playback controls the first time through. That way the user can't pause anything or skip through it. And your actions could then hide or show the appropriate video. The one with video controls or the one without.

When I use the SHUT DOWN command in the Apple Menu - programs close, the screen goes to a blue screen with a revolving time indicator and then remains that way until I FORCE SHUT DOWN by pressing the power button - then after a it makes the sound the screen goes black. I have restarted the machine several times and run disk doctor from the start up disk - no problems are recognized. The problem started last night. I upgraded to Mac OS 10.4.11 today - hoping that the update would resolve the issue - NO LUCK! I keep trying to get a successful SHUT DOWN from the apple command - However I have not been able to get it to SHUT DOWN without forcing the power button. HELP!

Please explain that one. Disk Doctor was part of Norton Utilities. NU is not supported by OSX and the faster you get rid of it the better. Boot from your Installer disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utilities. An optional way of shutting down is holding down control-option-command keys and pressing the eject button. When you are having problems address the problem. Upgrading to a new OS version will not solve the problem.

Forcing video to letterbox?

I'm unable to force video to display letterboxed.
Details: working with Anamorphic DV source in DVDSP4 compressed to 16x9 MPEG2 via Compressor 2. Checking 16x9 letterbox in Inspector's track display options. DVDSP recognizes asset as 16x9. Simulator and DVD Player display as 16x9, but formatted video when diplayed on a set top player won't force the video to letterbox. Instead it displays "squeezed".
What's going on here? Never had this problem with DVDSP 2. What am I missing?

Yeah, you're right!
I actually figured this out when I brought a third set top box into my office. I suppose I shouldn't have taken for granted that either of the other 2 players would be properly set up .

My iPhone 4 freezes after playing 24 minutes of video - HELP PLEASE!

It sounds like your phone becomes unresponsive when watching video on it for around 24 minutes or so even after reseting safari data, and resetting the phone. I would next quit the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Problems capturing VHS video - help please (Elements 11)

I've tried without success trying to capture a VHS tape into Elements 11 for two hours now and really need some guidance please.
The hardware is a Win 7 64 bit desptop and my VCR player is connected to the PC via a Canopus ADVC55 firewire connection, through an S-video and L/R audio inputs. The VHS tape is a Japanese one whihc plays fine through the VCR when it is connected directly to my TV.
The capture process I'm trying to use is "DV Camcorder" but I keep getting an error message in the capture window stating that "Camera settings do not agree with project settings" and that the capture process may not work properly.
To solve this I've tried almost all the NTSC settings in the New Project dialogue box. Sometimes the Canopus isn't recognised, sometimes it is but I get the above error message but nothing gets captured.
I would have thought the correct project setting would be NTSC/DV/Standard 48kHz but i just get the error message. When I ticked the "force these settings for the project" box I got an immediate blue screen of death!
I'm obviously doing something - or several things - that aren't right. I'd be very grateful if somebody could put me straight. All over the internet are articles saying how easy this VHS to DVD transfer is!!

Thank you very much gentlemen for your help and advice. I've had a whale of a time this afternoon trying to make some sense of the problem.
I've downloaded WinDV and updated the Firewire drivers. I've checked Device Manager and there is nothing there about dropped frames or timcodes. I've also tried every combination of the Canopus dipswitches making sure that I reboot bewteen setting changes. I've tried 2 different VHS players and also swapped out the cables. I've also found an old Miglia capture device and tried that as well in case the problem lies with the Canopus.
The conclusions so far:-
1. Using WinDV with the Canopus set to NTSC I get a picture straight away no problem and audio works as well. BUT the pictures are in black & white not colour.
2. The Canopus doesn't pass the video through to WinDV with the dipswitches set to PAL - the status light stays red.
3. So going back to elements 11 I've tried both dipswitch settings. With PAL the Canopus doesn't pass the signal through as for WinDV.
4. With Elements 11 with the dipswitch set to NTSC and the New Project settings at PAL/HD/Standard 48kHz I get the error message about "Camera settings and Project settings being different" and my PC hangs completely.
5. With Elements 11 with the dipswitches set to NTSC and the New Project settings at NTSC/HD/Standard 48kHz I get the message as above but if I close it then the "record" button is inactive and no video is recorded.
6. And those results are the same for both VHS players.
7. With The Miglia device I get no picture or sound with either WinDV or Elements 11 no matter what type of VHS tape I try to record.
And that's as far as I've got.
Are there any other Project settings I should try? Can anybody help with the Black and White issue with WinDV?
I just want to get the VHS recorded via any piece of software now!

Firefox opens up over 40 web browsers when I try to watch a video. help!

I am trying to watch the church videos from the website on my new mac. Apple told me that I couldn't open it because it was a flash video and that I should download Firefox. It opened up several windows starting from the left to the right, from the right over to the left and then on top of that. creating all kinds of windows. It won't let me close out. I've had to force close it. Help please

We are fellow users here on these public forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support - I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses and password from your post. If that is your current password that you've posted for everyone to see then you should change it IMMEDIATELY.
I'm not sure that I understand all of your post. By 'google' do you mean your gmail email accounts ? If you do then how are you trying to access your email, via the Mail app and/or another app on your phone, the Mail program or a browser on your Mac ? If you are using the Mail app on your phone and you've checked your email account's password then you should be able to add that new password on your phone by tapping on the email account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap on the 'account' at the top of the next screen, and you should then be able to enter the new password. If you are using the Facebook app on your iPhone, and you've changed the password for logging into Facebook, then you should be able to update it on your phone via Settings > Facebook
If you are using the Mail app on your Mac, then to change your gmail password in it (assuming that you've changed the password for it) then go into Mail > Preferences (command-comma), select the Accounts tab on the preferences, select the gmail account on the list of accounts, and on the right-hand side of that screen you should be able to update its password.
If the problems are on your Mac then you might be better off re-posting in one of the other forums (e.g. Safari, and there are forums for various Mac OS X versions), and there is also a Using iPhone forum - this forum is for the iTunes Store e.g. buying, downloading content from iTunes.

Macbook Pro 15" keeps crashing forces reboot help? :-(

I've had this macbook pro for almost 4 years now and recently had a hard drive fail. We went and got it replaced, and reinstalled all the OS Snowleopard stuff along with the adobe creative suite, microsoft office 2008, and diablo 3 (fun). Before the last hard drive failed the computer was randomly freezing, crashing, or forcing me to reboot with the power button.

USB device not recognized - ipod video-help!!

when I connect my ipod video, I get a message "USB device not recognized", when I click, I get: "no drivers installed for this device". I have re-installed the ipod software, reset the ipod and re-installed itunes, just in case. I have been on this problem since Christmas. Any ideas at all, anybody?

I have this EXACT same problem. And my ports are definitely 2.0 USB. I've uninstalled and installed all the iPod, iTunes and Quicktime components at least 4 times. I've reset the iPod. I've read everything I can get my hands on... nuthin'... nada...

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

Print to Video help please

I am getting audio recorded to my deck but no Video.
Any ideas what to do?

OK, the deck is a Sony DVCAM.
I am using Final Cut Express on a MacBookPro 10.4.11
I have a firewire cable connecting the two. (I also tried using my Panasonic DVX 100B camera with the same result - audio but no video).
I chose Refresh Video Devices
Clicked on the timeline, then Print to video.
I gave it 6 seconds of color bars, then when it said it was 'ready, I hit return and the deck began to record.
I cannot see any video on my monitor, (or int he camera screen), but I do see the audio meters moving. During playback the audio is there but no video.

recently bought a nokia n8
and set it up did the updates etc... all is fine with the phone love the phone its brilliant.
i downloaded a mp4 to put on my phone a movie it worked fine just the picture wasnt really good so downloaded the same film in again in bluray mp4 and put it on my phone it worked fantastic the picture was spot on just there was no sound there was sound when i played it on laptop but when it was on my phone there wasnt just a red arrow as though it was muted. but cudnt get sound back on, is there anything i can do to get my phone to play hd movies or do i have to do something live get a divx player or something any help please?

Could it be different (unsupported) audio codec used on the better quality video?
I am using vlc media player for converting video and/or audio to right format.
