Forceware nForce2 3.13 11-3-2003

nVidia has them up as of November 3.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_3.13
Heard from someone who couldn't boot after installing them (IDE driver problem again?).  I haven't installed them yet.
Any guinnea pigs available.

Hi!
Since the first day I got my current DAW, every time I did some MIDI tracks and played them using soundfonts, I heard random pops.
Tried lots of things (different drivers, APIC/no APIC mode, new PSU, different PCI slots, etc) but never found a solution. The main problem was... the IDE controller.
But with the new IDE driver included on the UDP v3.13... NO MORE POPS!!! My Live card sounds clean now!!!!
I just installed the drivers over the previous v2.45 ones, and the nVidia IDE driver was installed properly, didn't had to change anything or uninstall the MS ones.

Nforce 2 BIOS problems confirmed and fixed
The perils of ignoring the reference design
By Arron Rouse: Tuesday 11 March 2003, 19:10
A SHORT WHILE AGO WE REPORTED that there could be a serious problem with Nforce 2 chipset motherboards. No sooner had the article gone up than Nvidia got in contact wanting to know all of the details.
Users of a new Shuttle Nforce 2 based machine had reported problems with the BIOS. They had been trying to overclock their machines only to find that, once they went past a certain point, the machine would stop working.
At first it looked like a problem with the Shuttle but then Asus motherboard owners reported the same problem. Then Abit and Epox. Not only would they stop working, it was proving difficult to get them working again.
Nvidia stepped into the breach and admitted that there was a fault with the Shuttle and Abit boards. The fault lay in the manufacturers missing off a jumper that Nvidia had specified on the Nforce 2 reference design.
Hard Tecs 4U, a German site, unwittingly uncovered the missing jumper. They had reviewed six Nforce 2 motherboards from different manufacturers and managed to kill all of them. The only one that was easy to recover was an MSI K7N2-L board which has the jumper. Using the jumper sets the BIOS back to a 100MHz FSB safe mode.
Other people had discovered that you could use a 100MHz FSB processor, for example a Duron, in a motherboard that had stopped working to get it going again.
And there lies the problem. Setting the FSB too high can stop Nforce 2 motherboards from POSTing. Once the motherboard has stopped POSTing, the only way to get it going again is to reset the FSB back down to 100MHz. Only most motherboards don't have the jumper so you can't do that.
Nvidia obviously knew about this problem because they built the reference Nforce 2 motherboard with that jumper. The fact that many manufacturers didn't put the jumper onto their motherboards means that someone deserves a slapped wrist at the very least. Whether that's Nvidia for not emphasising the need for the jumper or the manufacturers for not including it is something we may never know.
However, what we do know is that a fix will soon be at hand for everyone. Nvidia has managed to create a fix for the BIOS on Nforce 2 motherboards that will solve the issue. That fix has already gone to several manufacturers who should be able to supply an updated version of the BIOS for their specific motherboards soon.
Nvidia has said that it managed to get that BIOS fix to Shuttle the next working day after our initial article. Hats off to Nvidia for getting the problem sorted so quickly. µ

Thanks for the tip.  I had been clearing the CMOS to recover from a no-boot overclock, but this sounds better.
This topic is covered in the K7N2F Series manual (English) on page 2-32.  J10 is the jumper referred to in your post, and there is a "MSI reminds you..." note on that page to explain what to do in case of boot failure.
There is a second jumper on the board that is also mentioned on page 2-32.  This is J11 which has two options--open for 100MHz, and shorted for 133/166MHz.  Does it seem like J10 and J11 might do the same thing?
Three observations:
1.  On my K7N2G-ILSR, with J10 and J11 in the default positions--User mode and 133/166MHZ--I was able to change the FSB on a 2500+ Barton (166MHz FSB spec) from 100 to 200, and get the CPU to run at the chosen settings.  Well, not quite--see #3 below.  So, J11--whatever it does--does not appear to limit the FSB settings.
2.  Another oddity is that, after clearing CMOS, the 2500+ always boots up at 100MHz FSB, even though its default is 166 MHz.  Same thing happens if the "Load BIOS Setup Defaults" is used.  Shouldn't both of these actions result in the processor starting up at its rated settings?
3.  (Related, but may be off topic.  I will start a new thread on this.)  The 2500+ Barton arrived unlocked.  So I set the FSB to 100 (for safety and ease of math) and tried every multiplier.  Here are the results (multiplier and CPU clock)--
07.0    700
07.5    750
08.0    800
08.5    850
09.0    1100
09.5    950
10.0    1000
10.5    1050
11.0    1100
11.5    1150
12.0    1200
12.5    1250
13.0    495
Observations;
A.  The 2500+ will start with a multiplier of 11 (correct) after clearing CMOS or selecting BIOS Defaults.
B.  What happened at 9.5 and at 13.0?  I thought this bios (V 1.2 February 14, 2003) was supposed to support the 3000+ Barton, which requires a 13 multiplier.  FWIW, the CPU clock on the 2500+ goes to 833MHz with 166FSB X13.0.  Is my Barton less than fully unlocked?  Or is there a bios bug?
C.  Multipliers above 13 would be helpful--just like FSB above 200.

• Ubisoft Games with nForce1/nForce2 Sound Problems, Solved...

You play a Ubisoft game like Prince od Persia: Sands of Time or Far Cry (this one is a Must ) and suddenly you loose gun fire and half of the sounds of the game?.... this is a problem with all ubisoft games and the nForce based boards which is up the scene a long long time now   Many people believed that this was a problem of the board's Southbridge overheating...but it is NOT!!!... It appeared strangely only in Ubisoft Games when nForce1/2 hardware Sound Acceleration was used....
ALL THIS IS OVER NOW ...
DOWNLOAD THE NEW v4.31 FORCEWARE AUDIO DRIVER AND PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!...
Patience Pays off,
nforce Soundstorm is the best integrated sound solution there is todays and one of the best in general, featuring unique capabilities like Dolby Digital On The Fly Media Encoder (dolby digital 5.1 channel transition from any stereo 2-channel media source) and unique quality (considered best choice when listening 3D Audio with headphones) and over the years it has become today an almost bugfree and stable product supported now by almost all game developers.
The feature for Soundstorm nForce Audio appears very bright. It competes equally with big names in PC Audio like Creative and is a much cheaper sound solution
Long Live Soundstorm!!\

Hi
I have installed ERP 6.0 IDES version in Windows 2003 server with DB2 LUW 9.1 / FP5.

• Installation problem on Windows 2003

Hi All,
I have installed the saprfc extension on my laptop for testing purposes.
Definitions of my laptop: Windows XP, IIS 6, PHP 4.4.2, SAP GUI 640
Everything works fine and I can access the SAP through the web server on my laptop without any problem.
Now, after finishing my tests I installed my web application on a real production server with the following definitions: Windows 2003 server, IIS 6, PHP 4.4.2
As you can see – the two differences are the operating system and the fact that I do not have a complete SAP GUI installation on the server – I only located the librfc32.dll under the windows library.
My problem is that I get the message that the php_saprfc.dll extension cannot be loaded (I edited the php.ini).
Doe anyone have any idea why?
Thanks,
Roy

Hi,
I have an installation with my laptop WIN2003 server with apache web server instead of IIS, without problems.
Are you sure that in your php.ini is all OK?
Have you tried to copy the WIN2003 php.ini on your laptop and try to load saprfc.dll?

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.

• ? Office 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA CommandBars references

Thanks in advance for reading this and offering any wisdom you have! I am not an expert in any of the following, so apologies if off base.
The basic problem is: I need to use Excel 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA 'CommandBars' references which don't seem to work in Excel 2013. Details below.
Most of our users are still using older desktop windows PCs and Office 2003!  We are beginning to upgrade to laptops running Windows 8.1 with Office 2013.  Of course, we IT technical people are using the new laptops first. These new laptops are
64 bit.
Years ago, someone did a lot of development with spreadsheets here in Excel 2003 file formats that automates many activities and routines. Now we with the new laptops are having to support this development using new machines.
There is a basic compatibility issue that appears when first opening these Excel 2003 files that have VBA code that I'll detail below; I seem able to get by that problem.
The current problem appears to be that the existing Excel 2003 VBA code has many references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars". As I've learned, the Application.CommandBars VBA functionality is focused on older MS Office versions' menu
commands, but "...Starting from Office 2007 the Fluent UI is used instead."  In other words, because MS Office isn't menu-driven beginning with version 2007 (uses 'the ribbon'), it appears that these references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars"
create a basic incompatibility to opening these spreadsheets in Office 2013.
For a spreadsheet, after I resolve the issue detailed below and save it, when I reopen it I encounter error "Compile error: can't find project or library."
For example, the following code snippet:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
For Each bar In Application.CommandBars
            bar.Enabled = False
        Next
results in: "Compile error: can't find project or library."
(Sorry, can't include images yet, I am not a VERIFIED USER of this forum yet.)
I went into VBE's menu: Tools>References and check for anything marked MISSING, which I deselected. But I am still receiving this error.
I don't want to get into changing the code a lot to support both Excel 2003 and 2013 (I am no VBA expert, just a dabbler).
And Microsoft officially says that Office 2003 is incompatible with Windows 8 although Application.CommandBars seem to be somewhat supported in Office 2013 .
Are you aware of a quick VBA workaround to get by this?
•I could comment out the validations, commands for: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars" but then the spreadsheet code probably won't work for users using Office 2003.
Alternatives would be:
•Installing Office 2003 on my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop anyway, in spite of MS's saying incompatible, since this thread discusses at least one person has been able to use Office 2003
•Keeping one older PC with Office 2003 on it for us to support the old Office 2003 code until everyone upgrades their systems
Thanks
Basic compatibility issue that seems solvable:
Opening these spreadsheets displays this error:
Compile error:
The code in this project must be updated for use on 64-bit systems.
Please review and update Declare statements and then mark them with the PtrSafe attribute.
This seems resolvable by going into the VBA code and just adding element 'PtrSafe' where functions are declared; in other words, replacing VBA code "Declare Function" with "Declare PtrSafe Function" seems to get by this.

Hi Allan_L,
Please try the methods that provided above. And this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Excel, your issue is related to Excel DEV, if you have further question, I recommend you post the question to the MSDN forum for Excel

• Any ideas for how to sync to Exchange 2003 - contacts and calendar

Hi
I am still searching for a mechanism to give me the sync solution I want, which is as follows:
At work I have a PC running Outlook 2003 via an Exchange Server 2003 setup.
At home I have an iMac running Snow Leopard
In the middle I have an iPhone 3G
I want to sync Calendar and Contacts across all three machines.
I want to sync work email between the Exchange server and the iphone, but do NOT need this to sync on my iMac at home
That's it.
At the moment I can sync email, calendars and contacts successfully between the Exchange server and iPhone, using the over-the-air Exchange Sync on the iPhone. But sadly my iMac will not sync contacts and calendars to the exchange server 2003 as Snow Leopard only supports exchange 2007.
Ironically (because I don't need this bit to work) I have managed to get my iMac to sync with my Exchange server EMAIL, by selecting the Exchange IMAP option when setting up the mail account on my iMac (as opposed to the Exchange 2007 option). However, I cannot get iCal or Address book to sync with Exchange 2003, regardless of the options I select when setting up the new accounts in Address book or iCal. I guess these just do not work with Exchange 2003
I know that I cannot use mobileme as a solution, as you cannot have two over-the-air syncs going on, and I need to maintain my iphone link to the exchange server via activesync
I also know that using itunes to sync via the cable will not work, as this creates separate contacts and calendar files on the iphone and so does not provide the syncing solution I seek.
I have tried using google to act as the middle man between my iMac and Exchange server data - getting the iMac to sync to Google Calandar and Google Address Book, and then using a third party piece of software called gsyncit to sync from google to the .ost outlook file on my PC workstation. This works some of the time, but keeps crashing and leaving me with multiple duplicates to have to sort out - much too much hard work on a regular basis.
So I still do not have a solution. Unfortunately upgrading to Exchange server 2007 is not a solution.....
Any new ideas out there
Thanks

I don't think there will be a solution to this. Exchange 2003 just isn't supported.

• I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I haven't used it in years, but I would like to start. What are my options for getting it up to date? Is it even worth the trouble/cost? I was hoping to at least get it running Snow leopard, if not Lion. Options?

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I would like to start using it again, however it is so out of date and runs too slowly. What are my options to update it? I really don't want to invest a ton of money - I might as well get a new one, so if there are any reasonable ways to get it to run Snow Leopard or even Lion, please help. I've also considered using a mac mini? Is that worth it either? I'm not sure which way to go here. I don't want to trash it, I feel like it can be a great computer if updated.

Presumably it is running tiger 10.4.11?
It may be able to run Leopard 10.5:
Leopard system requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP517
But that is as far as the old PPC Macs can go, and Leopard can cost up to $200 on Amazon.

• Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

• Windows 7 x64 can't read/install any printer drivers from Windows Server 2003 x64 (AMD64 folder and HP Deskjet 855c)

I read the thread Widows 7 printer
HP deskjet 855c driver about possible installation of HP855c drivers onto Windows 7 x64 from "Windows Server 2003 x64" CD but I didn't have enough luck to succeed with doing it on my laptop. That thread appears to be dead now
as it is marked "Answered", so I'm asking for help here. I have Toshiba Satellite P500 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (http://i55.tinypic.com/2zgth6v.jpg).
Let me tell you first that I don't have access to Windows Server 2003 x64 or XP Pro 64 CD's. However I did some research online, which eventually forced me to learn about the "file sharing". After extensive search I was able to get the copies
of AMD64 folders from Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 with SP2 and
XP Pro 64. The reason that I went also after XP Pro was because I thought that the extra wording "R2 Standard x64 with SP2" in description of "Windows Server 2003" did not reflect the exact name provided by poster
Alan. I couldn't find just "Windows Server 2003 x64" (does it matter?).
Anyway, I followed first the drill with running "printui /s /t2" and disabling UAC, and then in both cases I was able to locate the
NTPRINT.INF file (http://oi51.tinypic.com/9qwvt2.jpg - this image is from XP Pro AMD64 folder) but each time when I
attempted to install the driver, I got the same message stating:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software drive for your device. If the folder contains the driver, make sure it's designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems." (http://oi53.tinypic.com/27yveiw.jpg)
Why aren't there x64 drivers?
During several installation attempts I had the printer connected to or disconnected from my laptop. It didn't make any difference. I must add that for this purpose I had to use different cable than the original one designated only for the
Parallel port in my old desktop with Windows XP. My new laptop with Windows 7 x64 came only with 3 USB ports (plus 1 HDMI and 1 Serial). Because of that situation I bought in advance a new printer cable called “USB to 36-pin Parallel Port Adapter
Cable” (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A8I75E). I'm not sure, if it will work until I can install the printer.
Besides, nobody talked about this issue yet. I was also playing with the port choices in "Add printer" step; changing from default LPT1 to USB001 with the same negative results.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I was very hopeful after reading positive "case closed" notes there.
Can anyone help me here, maybe by making the necessary files available for download? I'm willing to pay for such assistance or make a donation, if necessary. Seriously. Judging by the large number of views of the original
thread, one could assume that there is a potential demand for such service. It would be more human to pay few bucks for a few driver files than $900 for the whole Windows Server 2003 x64 CD, no? Can Microsoft accomodate me/us, please? :)
Andrew*
P.S. I was advised to come for help here from
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-x64-cant-readinstall-any-printer-drivers/4e7d06e1-33a5-4597-be70-4fdc087a63a7?msgId=9a045994-0d31-4d40-b17d-dba372393ee4

I have my HP 855c/driver working on Win 7 Ultimate x64. I used the 'printui /s' procedure and 4 files described above with some minor changes.
I pulled WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe down from the Microsoft website. Running the file causes the exe to unpack into a temp folder at the root drive. A 'Setup Error' message box is displayed once the file is run. I left this
message box up until I copied ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, and sp2.cab from the temp folder.
I copied driver.cab from a Windows XP Pro disc. I also needed amd64\stdnames.gpd which was already in my Windows 7 c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 folder.
I created a folder with the 5 files (ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, sp2.cab, driver.cab, and amd64\stdnames.gpd). This is my 'Have Disc' folder.
I followed the 'printui /s' instructions, first changing the permissions mentioned above and then installing the driver. Next I followed the instructions to add a printer from Control Panel 'Devices and Printers' - 'Add Printer', choosing to 'use an existing
driver' when installing the HP 855c.
I used a slightly different ntprint.inf, size 1570418. The readable contents of ntprint.inf is as follows. Notice the line 'CatalogFile=ntprint.cat' is not included. I tried using the 1570468 version of ntprint.inf; when I did I received an incompatibility
message (probably the same one mentioned above).
; NTPRINT.INF (for Windows Server 2003 family)

Hi,
Regarding the current issue, please try to refer to the following similar thread to see if it works.

In addition, I suggest you could refer to the following method to join it to the domain over VPN.

• SBS Server 2003 and Exchange Server - need to access but only have HDD

Hi,
I have been redirected here from a Microsoft Community Forum. I am reasonably conversant with windows systems but am not a computer professional, just trying to see if I can solve a problem without spending a great deal of cash at this stage as
our office has been completely flooded out and we are still struggling to regroup....Here is the original question.
A couple of years ago our sever died completely, we kept the HDD's, but unfortunately not the CD's with the software on or the software keys. So I have now 2HDD's, the original boot partition and one with data on. both clean and fully working and
connected now to an old desktop. I can see everything fine, but I cannot boot from the original boot drive (I have tried simply disconnecting the desktop's boot drive and the windows logo shows for 1 second an d then chucks me back to the initial (DOS?) load.
The point is that I need to boot into SBS2003 with the exchange server installed in order to access a handful of old emails which have become extremely important, and also to run an old version of Filemaker server which will not run on any newer O.S.
I have tried, incidentally, a converter for the exchange files and I can see the directories but I think that unless I pay $xxx for something, which I cannot afford now, then I will not get the emails and all attachments back.
So my question is this - is there anyway I can use the original boot disk in a new hardware environment to restore both sbs 200 and exchange to working condition? I have paid vast sums for both so I do feel that I should be able to use them still!
Many thanks
Gor
