Forcing a clean install of iTunes : Windows 7

I have never has any problems installing updates to iTunes, but now I have reached my breaking point after wasting countless hours trying to get the latest version (freshly downloaded) of iTunes to install. Bottom line. it should not have to be this hard to install an app!! I have spent hours at this, and am completely exhausted..
Out of the blue , I am suddenly getting install errors such as Error Getting file security Get Last Error 5, and Procedure entry point errors, DLL files not found, etc Why? Where is this all coming from.? I have goggled and read many "solutions" and workarounds which take you to the bowels of Windows...making changes to security, and owners and manually deleting dlls etc. but nothing works.
I have installed and uninstalled and re installed, and removed and repaired and ran as administrator a dozen times. I am exhausted. This is all really nonsense. Who has time for this??
Is there any sure fire way to force a clean install of iTunes so that it works?
I am all out of options. Any help would be appreciated.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

how do I do a clean install of iTunes ?
One of the guys at apple support suggested I do this after I upgraded itunes - now it shuts itself down after 2 seconds !!!
When is apple going to fix this ?

Is there something Apple needs to fix? While you and a handful of other people are having problems there are millions of others who do not come here and post simply because they are not having problems. Given the complexity of computers there is likely some small file that is not being installed properly or there is something else you have installed that is conflicting with other software, or your computer file management is having problems and something is not where it should be.
First, I would check if it is really a problem with the application. You do not provide details on what is happening so it is hard to help. Try starting itunes in Safe Mode:
iTunes Safe Mode - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090915214613484
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430 - hold down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes
If that doesn't help (short-term), restart normally but hold down the option key and make a new, blank library. If itunes starts that way then you have a corrupt library file and it will need to be rebuilt (more information later if that is indeed the issue).
If you're determined to reinstall itunes, I don't know if this works with Lion since I believe they really tied itunes into the operating system rather than leaving it as an independent application, but try dragging the iTunes application in your Application folder to the trash, then empty the trash. Back up your computer before installing any new software. If the update does something you don't like this is the only way to revert.
Verify your hard drive with Disk Utility's First Aid. If it reports problems then that has to be dealt with before you do anything else.
Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Download the update from Apple. Some of us don't use Software Update to actually update, just so we know the installer file is safe and sound on our computers for use.
Install the update.
Repair permissions again.
Restart your computer.
There are also preferences files that could be the issue. Those are hidden from you in Lion and again, it's a separate post on how to deal with those.

Any other suggestions out there folks?

On Oracle Metalink site, there are many documents which says that Oracle 32 bit software works on 32 bits OS and 64 bits software works on 64 bits OS. Official support is only in those combination....
So there is no good way to help you in your case-XE is 32 bit application with hard codded compiled libraries which most of them would not work on 64 bit OS.

• Reinstalling TouchSmart software after a clean install / upgrade of Windows 7

I have an HP TouchSmart 610-1150xt. I have no use for much of the preinstalled software, so I would like to perform a clean install of Windows 7. At the same time, I would like to upgrade the preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. In addition to all drivers, I would like to reinstall the TouchSmart software. I have already made system restore disks to recreate the factory state, if needed.
Ideally, I would also like to reclaim the hard disk space currently occupied by the recovery partition. During the clean install, I would like to create two separate partitions -- one for the OS and applications; a second for only data.
I have performed numerous clean installs of Windows in the past, but have always had access to copies/licenses of all applications to add to the clean OS. I have downloaded all drivers from the HP website, but cannot find copies of the preloaded software. While the application manager currently allows reinstallation of preinstalled software, it is not obvious that this option would be available from the recovery disks (or the recovery partition) after a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate.
Are individual copies of preinstalled software available from HP, perhaps on an FTP site? If so, how can I download these programs? If individual copies of these applications are not available for download, can they be accessed from the the recovery media or recovery partition after performing a clean install/upgrade of Windows 7?
Thanks.

• Clean install of iTunes 9 fixes problems

I upgraded to iTunes 9 and immediately noticed a drop in performance:
1. The 1-click download feature (which we are now forced to use) took forever to add new songs. I mean several minutes just to add it to the download queue.
2. Downloading songs would take 20-30 minutes.
3. When songs finished downloading it would say "Processing..." and then just hand there forever.
Restarting iTunes 9 caused those songs that were processing to disappear. I finally decided to uninstall everything apple and reinstall iTunes 9. This seems to have fixed the issues that I have noted above. If you're on Windows XP. I would recommend uninstalling iTunes/Quicktime/Etc. and doing a clean install.
Pssst... Apple stop making smug commercials and fix your software.

You must uninstall iTunes 8 before installing the previous version.
If you want a complete removal here are some steps:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
I assume you have an installer for iTunes 7?
I think you can get it from here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#itunes%207%20windows
otherwise google FileHippo itunes.
After you install it it will not open because the library was created with a later version. You have to rebuild your library from iTunes Music Library.xml.

• Clean Install of Preloaded Windows 8 on HDD to SSD (MSI GX60)

Good Morning Guys!
This is my first post here so I'll try my best to explain my problem / confusion coherently.
I recently ordered a MSI GX60 off ExcaliberPC. I haven't gotten it yet but my plan is to install a new 2.5" Cosair Force 3 120 GB SSD making it my primary hard drive and transferring the HDD to a secondary bay. I would want to use the same Windows 8 product key that came with the lappy obviously. Reason why I'm not doing a clone is because I heard that there might be some performance issues. Also want to remove all the bloatware and crapware that came with it.
So I have a few questions:
1) Are the mounting brackets provided by the laptop or do I have to purchase them myself?
2) I heard that the Windows 8 product key is embedded in the BIOS; which means I just have to do a clean install and it should automatically be activated? Does the same apply to Microsoft Office?
3) In which order do it? Install SSD into primary bay, relocate HDD to secondary bay then do a clean install on SSD first and clearing out the HDD after? or clear out HDD first then do a clean install after swapping in SSD into primary bay?
4) If the product key is indeed embedded in the BIOS, would updating the BIOS risk erasing out the key?
5) If my laptop completely dies, is there any way to retrieve the Windows 8 product key from the BIOS?
Appreciate all the help I could get!!!

• Lion clean install broke existing windows xp bootcamp partition

Hi all,
I have been trawling to get educated on this but haven't found an answer yet (except purchasing windows 7-not interested, but thanks in advance for telling me that I should abandon XP because it's over 10 years old). And also dont tell me to just virtualise, i will, but i also want to use bootcamp for better performance. Lots of people theorizing what might work, but here's your chance to see what's not working in reality (and help get it to work please!).
I had snow leopard with a working bootcamp partition running xp (also using parallels), on a late 2006 Mac book pro. Things were getting very slow so I really wanted a clean install of lion (and it has made a world of difference!)
I didn't want to lose my xp partition so here's what I did:
1-used disk utility to create disk images to backup both partitions to an external drive (using spare space on my time machine drive)
2-used my lion USB stick to perform a clean install of lion on another external drive
3-erase and restore new lion installation to my internal Mac partition (previously snow leopard)
4-use migration assistant to bring back my data and settings (not applications-doing that manually)
5-download & install relevant software updates
(note that the bootcamp partition is untouched in all of this)
I noted that at first there was no lion recovery partition on my internal drive, but it has since appeared (presumably when I used software update to install an update to lion).
I didn't test the boot camp immediately but when I try to load it now the partition shows up and I can select it but windows presents me with the boot options screen (safe mode etc). It fails under all options (starts to load then flicks a blue screen before rebooting). From the safe mode log screen it appears to me that the issue could be the partition numbering (the new lion recovery partition has changed the partition number for the windows partition and it's freaked windows out).
Question is, what's the best way to fix it? I'm reluctant to try bootcamp assistant 4.0 because I know it doesn't support xp.
In hindsight maybe I should have done a clean install of snow leopard onto the external drive, erased and restored to the internal, updated snow leopard to 10.6.8 (or whatever was necessary for lion install), checked that the boot camp partition still worked (if not fix it with boot camp assistant), then upgraded to lion (seeing as upgrading to lion when there's a working xp partition on bootcamp is supposed to work).
I could still do all that but I wonder if there is a better / cleaner / easier solution.
Thanks in advance (& sorry for the long description!)

For future reference cloning can be the easy answer to preserving a BootCamp partition. I used the following procedure to upgrade 2 MBPs to Lion from SL.
Use Yasu and Diskwarrior to prepare existing Mac OSX 10.6.8 HDD.
Clone 10.6.8 Mac partition to an ext HDD with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Restart from the cloned ext HDD and select it as the startup volume via System Preferences / Startup Disk.
Install 10.7 Lion on the cloned ext HDD
Install Lion 10.7.2 update on the ext HDD
Restart the ext HDD now with OSX 10.7 and test and adjust the preferences if needed.
When satisfied, clone the OSX 10.7 ext HDD back to the existing Mac HDD.
The Boot Camp partition will not be altered as to drive id which appeared to cause problems for a few people.
The recovery partition will be on the ext HDD and can be used for trouble shooting. A more convenient way to have the recovery/reinstallation environment is to have or create a Lion install USB thumb drive.

• Clean install but iTunes is missing files?

I've had my itunes folder and all media on an external drive for a few years with no problems. Last weekend I did a clean install of ML on a new SD drive.
The install went fine and after it was done I pointed itunes to the media folder on the external drive that I have been using for years. Itunes seems to have accepted the folder but itunes is missing albums , songs and movies that are on the drive and in the correct folders. It's showing half of the movies I have in my movies folder. Any idea what's going on? Why would itunes see some of my media but not all? I have itunes match also if that's part of the puzzle.....
Thanks!

• Clean Install and iTunes

I plan on doing a clean install of Leopard on my MBP. I would like to backup every single thing in iTunes. If I backup ~/Music/iTunes to my external hard drive will it also save all my Play Counts, Last Played, iPhone data, etc.?
Is there anything else I need to know before doing the clean install?
Thanks!

If you back up the whole iTunes folder including the iTunes Library files you'll be saving everything. Your ratings etc. are store in the library files, I can't speak for the phone, I presume the phone data is also in the library file but since I don't own one I can't say for sure:
What are the iTunes library files?
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

• Why do i always get a message saying that the when trying to dowload the software update for iphone 4? it is a brand new handset and a clean install of itunes.

i am trying to update my iphone 4 to the latest software version as promted on itunes and it gives me a timed out message. and an error code (err = 3259) it was downloading fine and then once it reached the end of the download it just stopped and gave me the error message. does anyone know why it would be doing this? i have only just recieved my iphone 4 today and i only installed itunes on my laptop which has never had itunes installed on previously.
also just a random one, the usb lead i have got for my new phone doesnt seem very durable...and i know my last usb lead went funny, and ive seen friends who have had to resort in wire tape....does anyone know if the usb lead is covered by the warrenty?

You might find this article helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It has the error range of 3000's which states
Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

• How to clean install from upgraded window 8.1 SL via window store

Hello friends, I am not that much expert in computer field. Please help me to solve my below mentioned problem.
I purchased and hp laptop with window 8 preinstalled 1.8 Years ago. and i have updated my laptop to window 8.1 via window store, and everything is working fine till now. Now i want to know is there any way to keep a copy of my window 8.1 (I have
already created recovery drive of window 8 of 21-22 GB, 8 months after purchasing my laptop). So that when i reset my laptop, again i dont have to download this large file of window 8.1 from window store. As i have searched on net regarding this and found
that when i am going to reset my pc with my recovery pendrive, the default/preinstalled OS i.e window 8 is going to be installed on my system and not the window 8.1. Anyone please tell me how to keep my window 8.1 copy, so that i can reinstall
the same in future winthout downloading the same. Thank you in advance for your help

Assuming you can get your PC to boot from a USB memory stick, create a Recovery Drive.
You can make a System Image backup that can be accessed and restored from the recovery environment you can get to when you boot up.
Open the File History control panel look for the link to the lower-left...

• ITunes Clean Install

I've had in my notes for quite a while a procedure to do a thorough uninstall and clean install of iTunes. Apparently, this procedure was " based on Apple Support article HT1926" and was good for Windows XP.
Basically, the process was to uninstall all Apple-related programs, delete some left over folders in C:\Program Files, delete all the temp files, and then use an installer cleanup utility. Originally, the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility was suggested, but after Microsoft deprecated this, we switched to suggesting Revo Uninstaller. And now Microsoft has the "Installer/Uninstaller Troubleshooter" (and I have no idea whether this tool will help with respect to cleaning up after iTunes).
Are there any updated directions for Windows 7 x64?
I recently upgraded to iOS 7 and iTunes 11.1 and iTunes kept crashing immediately on opening. It took me a while of uninstalling, cleaning, rebooting, and finally starting iTunes in Safe Mode before I got things working properly ... but I don't know what the exact problem was or a systematic way to deal with similar problems when advising others.

Hello Peter
Nothing out of the ordinary, but there is an article that will go over with Windows 7 uninstallation.

• Windows XP Clean Install – What I discovered and the help I need

Windows XP Clean Install – What I discovered and the help I need
I previously had a problem with my Laptop dying randomly you can read about it in the thread entitled Computer dies Randomly (Battery also dead) click to view
Before I realised the solutions, I thought that maybe my Laptop had become infected with a Virus and decided it would be prudent to do a clean install of the Windows XP operating system.
Everything went perfectly and thought a clean install was a good opportunity to download the “XP Service Pack 3” SP3 and did so, it seemed very quiet though and that’s when I realised I had no sound…
I downloaded all of the sound drivers I could find on the Lenovo site for 3000 N100 (I knew from previous experience that the “SOUNDMAX” driver is the only one that actually works with this 3000 N100) in order to install this you have to install the Realtek HD audio driver, but in order to install that you have to install some other Driver/Soft that only works with SP1 or SP2 if you try to install it with SP3 it will say that you don’t need the file as your Service pack is newer than the file you want to install, this is understandable as SP3 is not final as of yet (but it’s good to know).
My next problem was that my extra RAM was not detected, this was fixed by updating the BIOS, after installing all of the System updates, PC Doctor, everything I could find for 3000 N100 I decided to rest, I pushed the Lenovo care button and it did not work, I found a hot key driver and installed it but still the Lenovo care button does not work, previously when I pushed this button it would bring up the Lenovo menu but now it’s just a dead button, Does anyone know how to get this button working again?
I am pretty sure that everything else is working fine now, just that button not working is very annoying, is there a set routing of installs you must do to get everything working, i.e. bios 1st audio 2nd system update 3rd etc...
Please help, I hope I have helped you...

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Ok first everything works now... except the Lenovo Care button, I just posted the other stuff cause it might help other members, I have searched the forum for an anwser to this problem but there was only one anwser (suggesting to uninstall the driver restart and re-install it) and it did not result in a working Lenovo Care button...
I don't beleive the Lenovo keyboad drivers are in any way related to the Service pack 3 as they do not use the Service pack files, to back this up I also had the same problem when Service Pack 2 was installed...
The Lenovo Care button works fine on Boot up screen to access the rescue and recovery software (So the mechanics of the button are fine) but once Windows XP loads it is just a dead button, I remember it used to open up the Lenovo Care Start bar, I got it working once in the past but I can't remember what I did, I thought someone here might know the anwser...
