Forcing customers to buy HD STBs?

When the new IMG came out I really didn't like it and came here to see if I could change it back. When I couldn't that was alright, but then I realized how much slower it is now than before. It's almost unusable. I looked to see if their was a way to fix this, but the only thing that came up was replacing the STB. Then I found out that the new IMG isn't meant to work on the SD STB, and Verizon is no longer supporting SD STBs only HD ones. That I would have to get a HD STB in order for the IMG to work like it is supposed to. So pretty much if I want the new IMG to work properly I have to pay an extra 15 dollars a month to get an HD STB for my non HD TV, even though there was nothing wrong with the old IMG and in my opinion looked and worked much better. To make it worse if you do not have a digital TV then the contrast was so bad that you couldn't even read the IMG. So now if you want to use FIOs you have to have an HD STB and a digital TV. I have an HD TV and a HD STB for my downstairs TV but not for the TVs in the rest of the house, but you should not have to purchase HD STBs for every TV even when their not HD. They should either give us free upgrades for SD STBs to HD STBs, which won't likely happen. Or they could let us choose to use the old IMG if we want. A new feature should be able to be used on all the products that are used. Or this could be Verizon just being greedy forcing people to pay for HD STBs.

I see no one has respnded to this one. So I will do my best.
You may benefit from this. I know it still raises your costs a little, but if you add up the numbers it is not the full price for each box. MRDVR+STB discounts, or discounts based on the number of boxes. If you have one HD adding a second will not be the full price of the first.
The more you have, the more you save. I know it may be a couple of dollars more per box, but will go a long way to increase your viewing pleasure. Everything changes over time, and you can not expect VZ to support older hardware forever. Many have argued the hardware changes should be free as part of the service, but the new boxes do add features if you choose to use them. You can view the HD channels on and SD TV, and some of those channels are not available as SD channels.

  • Trying to force customers to buy accessory bundles

I am so disappointed in you Verizon!!! I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and today I went into my local store to purchase a new phone and the salesman came out of the back with the phone and some accessories, he told me that they had the phone but I could not buy it on its own they only had the ones he could sell as a bundle, he explained that each store only gets a limited number of phones they could sell unbundled and they had already sold those 4....He told me if I wanted just the phone I could go to the Best Buy in the same shopping center....What???
I then asked if I bought the bundle if I could return the accessories and the sales guy told me yes...I would get a full refund no restocking fee...
I went up the the register with my phone and accessories and the manager happened to be standing there...I told him how disappointed with Verizonan I did not appreciate being forced to buy accessories in order to be able to buy a new phone. There were other customers close by so he told me they would make an exception and let me buy just the phone....but then her spent 10 minutes trying to talk me into a bunch of junk I didn't want or need!!!
I have 14 days to return the phone...so now I need to do some research on wireless carriers!

Was it a corporate store or premium retailer?  Address of the store?

  • Forcing customers to pay for a phone and/or data package they don't want or need

By their practices Verizon is forcing customers to pay for more than what the customer wants or needs, and at the same time giving the customer less of what they want or need.
I've been a Verizon Wireless customer for years. Everytime my 2 year upgrade is due I check what phones are available. It seems that as time goes by there are less and less Basic Phones with a qwerty keyboard, music player, good camera, and video. Now, there are only 3 phones to choose from that don't require a data package: none of them have a camera over 1.3 megapixels, none have video, and ALL had HORRIBLE customer reviews. Those reviews tell me I'm not the only disgruntled Verizon customer.
I've had Verizon phones that I liked in the past; right now I have a Blitz. I settled for that one because it was the best of the few bad choices available at the time. My most recent 2 year contract has been over for 5 months so now I'm on month-to-month with no contract, which is awesome. But my phone, which I like for the most part, doesn't work right. The problem is the earpiece speaker quit working as soon as my contract was up (maybe a software timebomb to force me to get a new phone?) so I took it to a repair shop to get it replaced. They replaced it but that speaker died after 2 months and since the phone has been discontinued (grr!), there is NO chance of getting a new speaker. That wouldn't be such an issue if the Bluetooth function had ever worked, which it never did. I recently broke down and decided I'd settle on something, so I tried the KinTwo (one of my 3 choices) but it sucked immensely so I sent it back.
So now I'm forced to buy a phone (with Some of the features I need, because it's obviously impossible to get ALL the features I want/need in One phone) that I don't like; AND pay for a $10 -$30 data package which I don't want or need, and can't afford; AND forced to sign up for a new 2 year contract. I'd rather go with Pay As You Go because I barely use any 'minutes' (I do more texting than talking, which is why I need a good qwerty keyboard) but I'd have to pay over $350 for a fairly decent phone.
HEY VERIZON, How about providing more than 3 choices of phones that don't require a data package? And how about making those phones GOOD QUALITY and not the garbage you're providing for sale now?
I'd like to stay with Verizon because they DO have the best service area compared to the other Big wireless phone companies . I've been with AT&T and the service area is really not as good. I even did comparison research for a college course's Final Project because I wanted to know which company had the more truthful claims about their coverage area. I live in the Sierra foothills and reception is a big issue with a lot of people here. I've talked with customers of the other companies and they all agree I should stay with Verizon. But if Verizon can't offer any good phones then I might as well switch to another carrier who may have more concern for their customer's needs. Even after giving us few choices of devices, charging high prices, and gauging us at every opportunity, they give us less incentive to stay a loyal customer. At least AT&T has roll-over minutes, Criket has 'no contract' service, and TracPhone has no contract/Pay as you go service with inexpensive phones.
So please excuse me while I go to the other carriers' websites to see what they're offering...

You are spot on. Verizon wants to squeeze every dollar it can from it's customers and customer service can take a DISTANT back seat to greed. I have a Chocolate Touch which I got a few years ago(before it REQUIRED a data package). I had activated a different phone which I ended up not liking and when I tried to re-activate my Chocolate I got slammed with the required data crappage..er package. I had to fight to get the data BLOCKED and the phone activated again.
Wifi is all over but all the phones that have Wifi that Verizon sells require data packages too. I REFUSE to give Verizon $30 minimum for data when I have no need for it. If they had ANY CLUE about customer service they would simply allow you to buy whatever phone you wanted from them(or others) and activate them with data blocks.Until they do I guess I will either be stuck with my old phones or go provider shopping. Which I am sure Budone will find great satisfaction in.
On that topic. I am amazed that Versizon sits back and lets your apathy and disrespect of ANYONE who does not kowtow to the company line as they seem to. You are a "gold user" so clarly you are  some sort of Verzion demi-god. Gotta say, there is not one word of disrespect in what I wrote. I do not puke on anyone, BUT I do present a different view than you or the OP may be willing to see with your, "Woe is me, have pity on me, and let me do what I want, if not involve the government to protect myself from myself attitude."
If you took time to look at posts of mine, I have had VZW in my crosshairs a few times, but they made it right. All in how you present yourself. Personally, I am willing to bet that corporate suck ups like you are the very reason many people finally DO make the break from Verizon. Your habit of puking all over people with legitimate complaints and the tolerance of same on this board lead ME and I am sure others to feel that your dismissive attitude is acceptable to, if not encouraged by Verizon in General. And yes, I have been edited in the past. But there was NOTHING in my prior post that has anything you state in it. You just dont like what I said. That is not towing the company line, that is knowing it costs a Ton of money to get a new deivce to market and data plans helps recoup the cost and allows upgrades and LTE to be deployed. You would be upset if you could not use your phone where there is NOT any WiFi.
    Even though I have had issues with Verizon's service and corporate paradigm(especially the companys determination to exthort every penny it can from me), almost every Service Rep I have spoken to has been considerate, friendly and helpful. There have been one or two who, when I broached the possible need for finding a new provider, seems unconcerned, but in general I have been made to feel valued by the people I have spoken with. {please keep your posts courteous}
As for the demi-god comment, maybe I can get a MOD or ADMIN to change me from Gold to that!

It does not. First things first have you tried restarting?

  • Is verizon forcing customers to have smartphones?

I noticed that almost all the phones that are available for upgrading your device is smartphones, is Verizon forcing customers to use smartphones so that they can get more money from data usage?

Verizon can't sell a phone that is not made. The phone manufactures for the most part do not make basic phones anymore. Since there are basic phones still available for upgrades I'm not sure where the "forcing" part is coming in. You can still get a basic phone if you want one. Also the cost of data on a Share Everything plan for basic phones is the same as it is for smartphones so I'm not sure where you get the "make more money from data" part from.

Those were all lies. They are scammers, and were trying to scare you into believing that you were infected with "viruses" so that you would pay them to fix the nonexistent problem.
Did you give them remote access to your system at any point? If so, your Mac should be considered compromised at this point, so you'll need to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. For more information, see:

  • Must I require my customers to buy Acrobat so they can use my app?

I developed an app a while back in VB6 that would extract a page from a series a pdf's and append them into a new single pdf, save, and print.  It required that I have Acrobat on my computer to develop it and that each user of the app had Acrobat installed as well.  This wasn't a problem in the office.
However, now that I am on my own, I must rewrite it for my own use and the use of others and am going to use C#.  Now I have problems.  Because I don't have Acrobat I can't even write the program since I have nothing but Adobe Reader to reference.  Even if I did have Acrobat, it wouldn't do me much good to write the app because customers couldn't use the app unless they have Acrobat (and I believe it must be the same version).  Seems ridiculous to require your customers to buy another app in order to use your app.
That is, unless I'm missing something.  Is there a redistributable api/dll or something that would both allow me to write this app and others to use it without having a copy of Acrobat?
    Thanks

This is an Adobe forum, so chances are you will not get much information
about solutions that do not involve Adobe technology. If you cannot (or
don't want to) afford Adobe Acrobat, chances are pretty good that you also
don't want to license the Adobe PDF library. There are no other Adobe
solutions to what you want to do.
Google for iTextSharp - it's a free PDF framework for .NET applications (and
    not from Adobe).

I've had Acrobat 9 for years. Yesterday it started shutting down saying I do not have a license. The message says I need to uninstall and reinstall the software. I haven't seen that disk for years. Is this Adobe's way of forcing me to buy a new one?

    Hey philipe4276624,
We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience that has caused to you.
This might be an issue where licensing for your Acrobat version 9 has stopped working.
Please refer the below mentioned links and try out the troubleshooting steps for your OS:

If it is unlocked it will work if you get a SIM from the carrier you will be using. Note that Apple does not and cannot unlock phones. Only the carrier it is presently locked to can unlock it.

was forced to install Adobe again (maybe just update it) and can't get past step 3/3 because its forcing me to buy it. now its half installed and i need to agree to terms and conditions..

Let's start with what you are trying to install. Adobe Reader is free, so it won't be forcing you to buy anything. So
    - What are you trying to install (full name, please, Adobe make lots of things)
    - What system (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OS Lion, iPad...)
    - Where do you go (what web address) to start off?
    - Why were you "forced" to do this?

  • Why don't you have any other size monitor than the 27"? You are forcing me to buy another product line and I like Apple?

I'd like to know why Apple no longer offers any other size display besides the 27"?  I can't use that size, nor do I have that kind of money. You are forcing me to buy another brand and the other brands don't have the compatibility to the new MacBook I just purchased. I would never have bought the new MacBook last month had I known about the display discrimination!  This ***** !

Well, there are a lot of good screens out there that support mini display port. Just because you bought apple, doesn't mean you have to stick with it. Also you can get adaptors such as mini displayport to hdmi or mini displayport to dvi. Both of those adaptors will allow you to connect your MacBook to a regular monitor.

  • Itunes forcing me to buy songs I own

I just got a 30GB Ipod and hooked it up. Transferred music over... and its trying to force me to buy songs I already own.
These are things I downloaded for free directly from the Artists site.
***??? I'm not going to buy songs the ARTIST gave me for free. I may buy other songs on their albums, but not the ones I already have.
    What can I do?

iTunes is not forcing you to buy anything.
Click the song and press Play.
Don't click the arrow after the song title.
I'm not going to buy songs the ARTIST gave me for free. I may buy other songs on their albums
Which is why you click on the arrows after the song name, artist or album. That takes you to the relevant section in the iTunes store so if you are interested, you can see more music by the same artist.
If you ctrl click on those arrows, it will show you the same info in your library.
For example, ctrl click the arrow after the artist name and iTunes will display only songs in your library by that artist.
    See this -> http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/tunes/

Yes, I think they would like you to by the CC plan.  But you can still get the standalone.
    The Trial Download is here:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom
This is exactly the same as the paid for version but time limited. I seem to recall that the option to convert the Trial to a Paid for version pops up every time you start it.

  • Why apple forced us to buy iphoto and imovie for new ipad? it supposed to be free for new ipad?

i think iphoto and imovie should have pre installed in new ipad. Apple wants to make money of everything. i guess in future apple will make ipad without any application and everything have to pay to download from app store.

Apple didn't force you to buy anything at all including the iPad. You made the choice to buy the iPad. You do not have to but iPhoto or iMovie. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything.
As stedman already said - all apps cannot be free.
