Forcing Screen Shared Windows to Appear in a Secondary Display

I have a 2009 Mac Mini supporting dual displays (extended desktop mode). The second display is used for "screen sharing" a second mac mini on my network located in a different part of the house.
Right now, each time I open screen sharing, I have drag the shared window over to the second display. I can force applications that are native on the mini with dual displays to always appear on the second display by "opt + dragging" their window, but this doesn't seem to work with screen shared windows.
My question is: Is there a way to force the "screen shared" windows to always appear in the second display.
Any thoughts?

Rather than Apple Care or the Apple Store, there are business solutions people in Apple who have the specific experience to deal with business' needs and applications. You should specify that you want to contact one of those individuals. On the apple.com website you can click on "Business Store". You'll get a page with an 800 number for "Apple Business Experts". It is 1-800-854-3680. Those are the people you ought to speak with.

Screen Sharing window expansion glitch

Has anyone else experienced when you click the upper right button to expand (and only expand upon collapsed on open) in the Screen Sharing.app window that it gets all glitchy in the title bar area. I have tried this on a few computers. It seems to open happen on the 20" iMac viewing the 17" iMac. I'm curious if this has to do with emulating a smaller screen.

How can I set up a screen screen sharing VNC at a resolution higher than display?

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13in, and i have set up screen sharing to access over VNC. I want to view my mac on my 1920x1080 display hooked up to my PC. But when i do it is not full screen, it is the same resolution as my MBP. how can i run it at a higher resolution only over VNC?

As Cvid suggests, I create my "frames" in Photoshop. Not sure about all versions, but my PS has several Actions, just for frames, and I have made a few more, with a different "look."
I Save_As PSD, and just Import those as Footage (I do not need the capability to work with the individual Layers).

Which windows event is triggered by secondary display device detection

I want to schedule a windows task to run when a secondary output device (e.g., VGA monitor or HDMI A/V receiver is turned on or off)
but I'm not sure which event should be used for this. I found something related to network cable plug/unplug here How
to launch a command on network connection/disconnection? basically, the event is
Log: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile/Operational
Source: NetworkProfile
Event ID: 10000
for connect and 10001 for disconnect
but couldn't find anything for external audio/video devices. Any such event or events exist? If not,

I have an LED monitor/TV connected to VGA port and an AV receiver connected to HDMI. The problem is that whenever there's video re-configuration (e.g., VGA cable connect, monitor turned on, AV receiver turned on or off, HDMI cable connect/disconnect) the
monitor will try to automatically adjust the picture h-position and v-position and it always fails (picture is shifted few inches both horizontally and vertically) and I have to manually adjust h and v positions every time. The only exception that the monitor
would auto adjust correctly is when the video re-configuration occur while the displayed picture is blank. The monitor is 1080p and windows is configured to send 1080p to external monitor. If I send 720p, the picture auto adjust works OK.
I realize this could be a problem with the monitor, but on my older Windows XP, the display driver (Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family) could be configured to adjust video signal low-level controls (h-sync, v-sync, timing, etc.) and I used those
to set the right values for this monitor so that auto adjust always work for 1080p. However for Windows 8, the display driver (same laptop as used with XP) does not provide any of the low-level controls.
My approach was to use the task scheduler to display a blank image when video re-configuration is detected and remove it few seconds afterwards, but I need the event triggered by this re-configuration process. Connecting the monitor using HDMI works OK for
1080p but the picture doesn't look as sharp as with VGA besides if I do that, I can't connect the AV receiver.

Mouse pointer disappears when screen sharing

When I use Back To My Mac from work to screen share my home Mac the pointer disappears. When I first connect and put the screen sharing window into full screen mode (into a separate space) everything is fine. I can then switch back to my current Macs screen and the mouse pointer is still working. But when I switch back to the screen sharing space the pointer is gone.

the difference is that it only happens when I'm using my thunderbolt display.
i have an mb air and a mbp retina. there is no issue until i'm connected to it - then i get this freeze issue during screen share and my hidden dock won't appear.
i've had 2 calls with applecare to date. will update you after my next call

Screen sharing - difficult to show the dock

I've had this problem in Mavericks and now again in Yosemite. When screen sharing with another computer whose dock "Automatically" hides and shows the dock, I have a very difficult time positioning the cursor so that a hidden dock will reveal itself. Sometimes an initial waking of the dock works normally but subsequent tries to bring up a hidden dock will take multiple tries, putting the cursor close to the bottom edge of the shared screen, moving the cursor along the bottom edge, etc. It's almost like you have to tickle the area where the dock will appear to get its attention. Sometimes I'll spend minutes trying to get the dock to appear. This happens on a local network so it's not like there is a network delay problem.
What's going on here?

I have this too. Very irritating. Especially when you are in full screen screen sharing, because when you hover the cursor at the bottom of the screen, the host dock pops up and obscures the dock in the screen sharing window.
Here is a workaround: Press cmd-option-d (d for DOCK).
This will show or hide the dock.
And because you are in screensharing, all shortcuts will be sent to the target system and not to your local machine.

Screen sharing toolbar

I used the following command to enable the toolbar in the screen sharing application.

At first a floating toolbar would appear in the upper left-hand corner of the screen sharing environment -- even when I was running in full-screen mode. However, somewhere along the way the toolbar cease to be floating and is permanently attached to the screen sharing window.
The problem arises when I am using screen sharing in full screen mode. Once I enter that mode, the toolbar becomes completely invisible and the only way I can get access to my local machine is to reboot it.
Can anyone tell me how to make the toolbar detach itself from the screen sharing window?

I re-installed leopard (Archive and install) and put the app on my external, then put it on my internal HD.

Why is screen sharing from ML to Lion wacky?

Things are really weird. When I use my MBP retina to control a high-res (1680x1050) MBP (mid-2010), the screen sharing screen doesn't fit properly, and I can't click on the remote system menu. If my MBP retina is connected to a 27" LED Cinema display (as sole display) to control the same high-res MBP, the remote MBP appears small in a corner of the screen sharing window, and I can't click on the remote system menu.
Basically, screen sharing is unusable. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am able to create access via mac pro to laptop and visa versa on the finder level and access all of my files but the screen sharing still will not work. Even when I'm logged in successfully on the finder level, the screen share still does not recognize the password and gives the error: "Authentication failed to "xxxx". Please verify you have entered the correct name and password".
I would expect that if it were a network issue, that I wouldn't be able to connect at all and it wouldn't be denying access based on an "incorrect" user or password.
Wish this could get fixed. I used it quite often prior to the Mavericks install.

Networking/screen sharing between Mac and PC

I have a standard home wired/wireless network using a DHCP router. My main computer is a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (latest everything). My secondary computer is a Windows 7 PC, which has IP address 192.168.2.94.
On the Mac Pro, in the Finder sidebar, under shared, I do see the PC: it's called "rackpc". If I click on it, I see the option to Connect As, but if I click it, it says Connection Failed (the server "rackpc" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time). The screen sharing button doesn't appear (as it does for other Macs in my network).
However, if I manually use the Finder's command-K (connect to server) and type in vnc://192.168.2.94, I can easily connect to the PC and share its screen.
So my question is: how can I "save" this bookmark of vnc://192.168.2.94 (or better yet, make the Mac auto-sense the rackpc's existence, which it partially does) and allow it to appear properly in the Shared list of servers on my local network? Right now it appears there, but as I said above, Connect As doesn't work, and Screen Sharing doesn't appear.
The rackpc is not on a fixed IP because I can't figure out how to do that in Windows. So it's grabbing .94 from the router, which is fine by me for now.

Screen Sharing and CMD+Tab

Hi,
yes, my problem is solved. CMD+Tab now works within the screen you are sharing!
But, now of course, there's another issue. How to leave the shared screen using the keyboard? Meaning, how can I switch controls back to my own Mac using the keyboard.
Using the mouse works! But as a geek, I often prefer the keyboard.

Before the cmd-tab was sent through to the remote computer I installed a control panel called liteswitch X which allows you to map alt-tab to switch apps. If installed on main computer, you could probably switch away from the screen sharing window with an alt-tab. However, I would really like to switch off the cmd-tab being sent to remote and the fix for ARD 3.3 (defaults write com.apple.RemoteDesktop DoNotSendSystemKeys -bool YES) does NOT work for me.

Screen Sharing via iCloud on Lion Freezes at Login Screen

After updating to OSX Lion 10.7.3, screen sharing between two computers via the Internet allows me to connect to the remote computer and see the remote user's login screen, but as soon as I click on a user to login, the screen share image freezes before I can enter the user password.
Using iCloud Back to My Mac because all machines have the same Apple ID & password. Exact same setup worked before the 10.7.3 upgrade, but it could be coincidence.
Details:
Can see the remote computers in my finder,
Can click on them and connect successfully using either the Apple ID or the name and password a user that is allowed under Sharing -> Screen Sharing,
When clicking on "Screen Share," the computers connect and I'm prompted to either "Ask to Share the Display" or "Connect to Virtual Display"Since there really isn't anyone using the computer, I select "Connect to Virtual Display"
After clicking "Connect to Virtual Display" the Screen Sharing window shows the remote computer's login screen, whcih shows the user names, their icons and "Sleep" "Restart" or "Shut Down" on the bottom of the screen. One user has an orange circle with a white checkmark next to it.
Previously, I could click a user's name or icon, enter the password and control the remote Mac. Now, not amount of clicking works.
Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting as different users or using Apple ID without changes in the perofmance. Have restarted both machines.
Any help?

I'm having the same problem screen sharing to a Lion 10.7.3 machine, I get this message.
However, it works just like it used to when I screen share from a 10.7.3 machine to another Mac running 10.6.8.
Any thoughts?

Mavericks: Screen Sharing Resolution changed to low-res

I just updated my two slave macs (Mac Pro, Mac Mini) to Mavericks (main mac still on 10.8.5), and when I do screen-sharing by connecting to each, suddenly I'm getting each slave mac in a square screen at low-res -- 1280x1024. THere are no other options to return these to full 1920x1080-sized windows.
Some other forums recommended a free app called Display Menu that puts a screen resolution in the upper menu bar, but when I select 1920x1080 as the resolution for the sharing window (which it has always been), I get a black screen in that window and the only fix is to turn off the slave mac manually, and when it comes back on and I reconnect to it, it reconnects with the square 1280x1024 monitor window.
It used to be that I got the 16:9 screen share window and I could scale/resize it by dragging corners but that option is gone.
Anyone know how to get that old 1920x1080 resolution back in my screen-shared windows?

Ok so the solution was to user a different VNC client in Ubuntu. "Vinagre" allows you to view your remote session scaled to any size you like. It will however retain the dimentions of your MacBook screen.
One thing to be aware of is that when authentication your VNC session (entering your username and password) Vinagre only allows you to enter a password of 8 characters max. So if your password is longer then 8 characters you will have to shorten it to user Vinagre... A bit annoying but at least it works.
Techy notes:
It is actially the VNC server Vino that Vinagre uses that is enforcing the password length limit. So if using an alternative client that uses Vino as it's VNC server this limit will apply for that client also.
Even though you are scaling the client session down VNC sends the host's full resolution so you will still transfer a lot of data over the network.

Unable to resize Screen Sharing screen

Using the Screen Sharing application to remotely control the Mac Pro when I connect the size of the Screen Sharing window varies, most of the time it is small (about half screen width and two thirds screen height) but sometimes it is almost full size on the monitor. The Fit Screen in Window button setting does not seem to affect this.
Furthermore when I try and drag the bottom right hand corner to increase the size of the Screen Sharing window it will not allow the window size to be increased.
In 10.5 Leopard the Screen Sharing app could be configured using defaults but Apple in their, err, wisdom, have disabled them it seems in 10.6 Snow Leopard. So...
(1) Is there any way to make/configure the app to always display a maximized screen size when connecting to a remote Mac?
(2) Why can I not resize the window by dragging the right corner using the standard Mac window resizing mechanism?

Try playing around with the window positioning. There is no definite way to keep a window's size/position, but try playing around with it.
I have dragged the window around but it makes no difference.

You may not be able to make it bigger, but can you make it smaller?
Yes I can make it smaller but when I drag to make larger again it stops at the original size and you cannot drag further.
I noted that the screen resolution setting in the monitors preference pane of the Mac Pro had been set at 800 x 600 but it was set to 1680 x 1050 (the res of the 20in monitor) so perhaps Screen Sharing does not support that res and it gets reset when you create the connection?

Can't seem to restrict access to screen sharing

I'm running a macbook pro (10.6.2). I'm at my folks' place for the holidays and I tried screen sharing into my MBP from my dad's iMac (10.6.2) and noticed that I could access the MBP screen without any password prompt.
I went into my MBP sharing system preferences and set screen sharing to: "Allow access for only these users: <my login>"
Again, I tried accessing my MBP screen from the iMac, and again I was able to get in without any password prompt.
Now I'm using my dad's login on his iMac, which is completely different from my MBP login which I thought I had limited screen sharing to. All of this is taking place within a home network.
I would like to allow screen sharing on my MBP, but only if it's password protected. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong here? Why does my MBP keep allowing open access to screen sharing when it appears that I am restricting it to only my profile?
I tried messing with the options in "computer settings", but that didn't seem to help either.

I would suspect that the first time you did it (may have been a while back) the password was saved in your father's keychain on the imac.
open keychain access on the imac and see if it's there. if you delete the keychain entry for that password it should ask again next time you try to connect. and don't check the box to remember the password in the keychain.

Remote access without screen sharing?

I have an iMac and a MacBook Air. I'd like to remotely access the iMac from the Air on my local network, so I can take advantage of the iMac's superior processing power and file storage, while sitting in a different room. The problem is that my iMac has a 27" monitor and a 24" secondary display, so screen sharing doesn't work very well on my Air's tiny 13" monitor.
My question is, is there any software that would allow me to remotely login to the iMac and give me a Mac OS interface, but size that interface appropriately for the MacBook Air, rather than just showing me the actual desktop of the iMac. Basically, I want it to pretend like the notebook's monitor is the monitor connected to the remote mac and still execute all the code on the remote mac. Extra points if I can essentially instantiate a second instance of the same account on the iMac, so I can be logged in locally and remotely at the same time, with the same account, but with different looking desktops.

I presume that your issue is your viewing two very small side-by-side screens on an already small screen. There is a drop down menu on the screen sharing window itself (that is, the window of the screen sharing app running on the MBAir, on the left side in the vicinity of the toolbar) where you can select to display either the left screen, the right screen, or both screens. I have a (employer-owned) 17" MBP that accesses a (employer-owned) dual-screen iMac and find that switching between left and right screens is not too bad of a compromise, in exchange for being able to actually see (and do) anything on the iMac from the MBP's screen sharing app.
