Forcing work stations to use proxy

I have an almost entirely MAC network using open directory. I am installing an Internet filter, K12USA SecureSchool. Is there a way to force all workstations to go through the "proxy" using a policy instead of having to go to each work station and configure each browser separately? I know this can be done in Windows Active Directory, but I am not sure how to do it on a Xserve 10.4.

On my DHCP server I went into Netinfo manager and created the dhcpproxy_auto_discoveryurl and set it to http://172.25.1.5:81/proxy.pac. With the 172 address being the k12usa proxy. Im not sure that blocking port 80 would force everything to the proxy. So far the only way i have gotten traffic filtered and configure the browsers on the workstations. I just hate to have to go to 300 machines and configure browsers. Thanks for your responses.

  • Downsides of using Proxy servers as a storage enabled node

    Hello,
We are doing some investigation on proxy server configuration, I read "Oracle coherence recommends it's better to use proxy server as storage disabled".
can anyone explain downside of using proxy server as a storage enabled node?
    Thanks
    Prab

It seems that I was wrong with my original answer. The proxy uses a binary pass through mode so that if the proxy and cache service are using the same serialization format (de)serialization is largely avoided.
However, there are other overhead associated with managing potentially unpredictable client work loads, so using proxy server as storage enable node is still discouraged.
    Thanks,

  • Dwcs5.5 "use proxy" wont work, help! no connect to BC

Hi All, just installed dw5.5, I'm using business catalyst and most of the time in the office I have to work using the "Use Proxy, as defined in preferences" tick box selected and all is well. Now when using 5.5 I tick the box and it wont connect, when I come back to the setting I find it has deselected itself, no matter what I do I can't get the new 5.5 to connect to the BC servers so at this stage it's kinda useless, anyone have any ideas
    cheers

Hi All, sorry for the length of time since a reply but I do have a resolution kind of. After posting I attended the Adobe roadshow in Sydney ( OZ ) and actually got to speak to Greg Rewis about the problem. He tried it out on his version of DW 5.5 and bingo, same problem. He said he would speak to the dw dev team and see about a solution. Well a long time passed with no update or sign of an answer till DW cs6 came along (im lucky the bussiness I work for has an upgarde plan from Adobe ) so with cs6 installed, all the ftp problems seem to have gone. In fact there seems to have been a major overhaul to the FTP of DW ( thank goodness ) so i'm guessing that when this fault was added to the list, they were alread in the process of the overhaul.
So good news if you can shell out for the update, not so good if your stuck on 5.5 ( aint that the world we live in now )
    Cheers all

  • Proxy.pac file not working for using proxy for selected websites

After changing my ISP, i cant connect to Bluenest.org directly but with proxy. I can also connect by setting manual proxy server for all websites. But I dont want to do that as there is a bit security problem. I just wrote Proxy.pac files to use proxy sever for that particular website & put its location on Automatic Proxy Configuration. But its not working. I va tried with two types of .pac files. Given the code of the files below.....
    First one..........
    <pre><nowiki>
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
    if (shExpMatch(url, "http://bluenest.org") || localHostOrDomainIs(host, "http://www.bluenest.org"))
      return "PROXY 204.45.138.4:80";
     else
      return "DIRECT";
    </nowiki></pre>
    Second one......
    <pre><nowiki>function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
    if(!isResolvable(host))
    return "DIRECT";
    return "PROXY 204.45.138.4:80";
    }</nowiki></pre>
but none of them working. Please help.
Can you please tell which proxy server is fastest & safest.
    Thanx in advance

I submitted a bug report to Apple. The problem is present since 10.9.2, now with 10.10 and iOS. I hope they will take this problem seriously.

  • How can I load a flat file using a different Work Station

    Hi Gurus,
I'm having problems with loading Flat file in our Production Server when it comes to loading a file from another work station. The scenario is all the Info Packages needed are created in oour Dev Server. So the location of the flatfile is already define which is the developer's workstation. Now when the package is transported to the production server any changes to the package is not allowed inlcuding the location of the flatfile needed to be uploaded. Now my question is. is there a way that the location be changed in the production server without adding the package Z_BI because that will mean we can do changes in the production server. Thanks in Advance
    - Kit

Directly you can not change the info package settings. You need do   change the status of Info package to changeable mode and then do necessary changes.
RSA1 => Click on truck symbol (Object changeability) => select info package => right click => click on Switch changeability.
Now do the changes to your Info Package.
    With Regards,
    Kishore.

  • Macbook pro for work station with external monitor?

I shoot weddings and need to run cs2 plus other programs and storage for photos.
I read in Macworld where they recc. the Macbook pro instead of a power mac as a work station using a 24" dell. They said the power mac is overkill.
Do you think I would be happy using it in this way?
I would save a bundle in buying another computer.
I do have an older PC now tower that I use..
I also would have to run windows since there are programs that i run on xp that they don't make for the mac.
Maybe I should just stay with a PC for the workstation?

if you meant compared to a powermac (ie, a G5), then the macbook pro is actually on par or faster than those machines. but if you meant the current mac desktop, the mac pro, then indeed that is a significantly more powerful machine.
be warned though.. adobe cs2 is currently not native for any intel mac, MBP or otherwise. so it's going to run much slower than what you'd expect, and much slower than what the machine is really capable of, due to emulation. this will be resolved with cs3, which should be out before the end of the month.
as for your windows apps that don't exist for the mac. before you jump in with the intention of definitely running windows on the MBP, you should take a look around and see if there are any mac programs that can do what you need to do with those apps, even if they aren't exactly the same. this may not be an option for you, but if it is, it's a nicer way to work than to be forced to use up all the extra disk space and system resources and effort, to have a windows install running as well. that said, if you can use these apps through parallels, it can be a pretty seamless way of accessing those apps when you need to.. but you'll chew into your drive space still.
but in principle, what you want to do is definitely achievable. you won't get the most bleedingly fast system that a mac pro desktop would give you.. but as I said, the current MBPs are right up there with the power of the G5 macs, in many cases faster, so it's definitely desktop class performance even if not in the same league as the mac pro. photoshop will annoy you if you try to run the non native version though.. so make sure you get the intel version (ie cs3) as soon as it comes out. all in all, together with a nice large 2nd monitor (and prob a good external drive too) it'll make for a great working setup.
I'd also get a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a stand to put the MBP on, so it sits at monitor height and you can just work as if it were a desktop machine. that's what I do, and it's great.

  • Hi there, I am trying to connect to my server at work from home using a vpn connection. It connects fine and the time ticks along, but when i click go - connect to server, it comes up with connection failed. Please help!

Hi there, I am trying to connect to my server at work from home using a vpn connection. It connects fine and the time ticks along, but when i click go - connect to server, it comes up with connection failed. Please help!

... when i click go - connect to server, it comes up with connection failed.
If you're trying to connect to a Bonjour server on the remote network, that won't work over a layer 3 VPN. Use something like Hamachi or one of the SSH-tunnelling Bonjour proxy apps for that.

    Hello Sim085
    thanks for your reply.
Perhaps it would be easier for us to continue the programming with any kind of VisualStudio Produkt ;-), although we dont't had to think about OOP yet!
Because of our new Network-Technology (Terminal-Server) we have to discuss serveral possibilities.
I've read about JSP and ASP.NET, and I want to know if JSP or any kind of JAVA Program will run on a Terminal-Server.
Are there any special aspects I have to know when running JSP on a terminal server from Microsoft? Is it better to program applications in JAVA or in JSP? ...

  • My volume buttons have ceased to work when I want to use the built-in speakers, however they will work when I use my headphones....help!

This thread concerns IOS 7.1.2. update and the subsequent loss of volume button functionality and use of internal speakers.
Please can someone help from the mac team!
It's not a jailbreak phone. The phone is a replacement from Apple and the volume buttons are virtually won't work for certain functions on the phone. Here are the symptoms:
When the volume buttons are pressed on the home screen i get "ringer" and the speaker symbol appear but nothing more (ie. +/- volume)
When playing back from iTunes with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
When i playback Youtube content with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
With headphones plugged in sound is audible and volume buttons work.
Whilst using voicemail, (no headphones connected) i can play the message through the speakers and control volume using side buttons.
I have restored the phone and this has not fixed the problem.
    iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.2. upgrade

    Hey there jeremy,
It sounds like your Volume buttons aren't working correctly and you are also not getting sound from your built in speaker. I would start by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • How to use proxy settings for one website

    Hello,
I have to access the only one website using Proxy settings and for others I don't need proxy to access. Is there a way to configure the internet settings to allow one website using Proxy... Please advise. Thanks!
    Regards,
    Aravin S

I am also getting this "error".  The printer (8500 A910) connected to the web well enough that it went out and supposedly downloaded a new update, but then it was supposed to print a page showing the email address, but did not.
So I go in and try to set up the eprint, and it tells me it cannot connect to the sever and I'll need to enter a proxy address and port number.  But my ISP's cable modems do NOT have any static IP address nor do they provide any sort of proxy service.  Everything works just fine with "automatic discovery" (DHCP) for every computer in the house.  No problems there.
So, since  that's the case, of course I cannot look up some proxy address and port number in my web browser because they're all set up for "automatically detect settings".
What's baffling is that the printer connected to something at HP to download the "update", and it went through a process that appeared to be what I'd expect it to do if it was updating its firmware.  But it won't connect to whatever it's supposed to connect to to have an email address assigned.
Does HP supply a proxy server?  If so, what's its IP address or URL, and what port should a person set the printer to try to use?
    UPDATE:
It appears that the HP site must have just been "down" for about six or seven hours while I was trying to get the printer to connect because it now connected and I got an email address asigned without needing to have any "proxy" stuff set up at all.  It's a shame that the printer does not simply report "HP Site down - try again later" instead of reporting that you need to use a proxy when that's impossible.
"Now, on to the next problem which is that my emails to the assigned address are all bouncing with a "550 5.7.1 Command rejected" error!

  • Dropped Frames consider using proxy mode

    The message:
Many video frames were dropped during the last playback.
The disk does not appear to be fast enough.
    Consider using proxy mode
I am resonably new to FCP X so I cant tell whether this is new (after update) or if its a known problem and how to solve it. I have seen a couple of other posts that suggest its new.
    iMac
    Core i5
    2.7GHz
    8GB RAM
    Snow Leopard

This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance.
FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on the Hard Drive that your System and your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
Create Optimised media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
If you are short of drive space, use ProRes 422 Proxy - but remember to select High Quality when you export your movie.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot.
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.
    Andy
