Foreign language audio CD is stuck. Won't read. Won't eject.

I thought I'd brush up on my Russian and convert my Russian audio CDs to mp3 and store them on my iPod. My MBP won't recognize the CD. The eject button won't eject it. Restarting with the mouse button down does nothing. When I open Disk Utility and click the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898 it says, "This disc drive is busy. Please choose another one." I can't find a pin hole eject on this thing. How do I eject this CD, but more importantly, why can't it be read? I used to listen to these things on my TiBook and G4 Powerbook!

Problem resolved. I have Windows running on Virtual Box and the virtual PC was mounting the CD before Mac OS X could. Once it was unmounted from the virtual PC, then iTunes opened and imported it.

My drive Won't read any kind of DVDs, it keeps ejecting automatically after spinning for a while. it's been going on for a while now. please help!!!!!

You can try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If that doesn't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of canned air. It's likely though that your drive has failed, it' not all that uncommon. It that is the case you can either replace it or have it replaced but it's far cheaper just to buy a usb external drive....just not Apples because it won't work with macs with a built in drive working or not. .

  • Drive won't read any dvd-ejects it automatically after spinning some time

The SuperDrive on my MBP has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop.
There was a thread on this previously, but Apple has closed it:

I know Apple won't own up to the problem, so has anyone found a solution?

Dunno why, but I think this has something to do with the Security Update 2009-001 Apple posted on its download platform a few days ago. Must have wrecked my SuperDrive somehow--and maybe yours, too--and I agree with Ryan when he says Apple hasn't been up to its reputation, lately. Maybe the market pressure got too much, and they started buying cheaper components...
Makes me wonder; imagine, you buy the brand new MacBook/MacBook Pro, with its encased battery and other fancy stuff, and something breaks down in the beast's belly. What do you do, then, bring it back to that some so-called Genius tells you to send it in to AppleCare.
    Naughty, naughty, Apple...

  • After SL-DVD drive won't read any dvd-ejects it after spinning some time

Yesterday I bought the SnowLeopard DVD in order to do the update of my Mac OS.
Right after inserting the DVD in the drive (MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8221) it started to have some problems with reading the DVD.
The Drive has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my Toshiba laptop.
I tried several times, but the drive isn't able to read the DVD and now has the same problem with other CD-Roms and DVD.
I am very suprised (and angry) about it, especially because I hardly use the drive.
As a lot of other people are having the same problem, there seems to be a structural problem with the drive and I think that Apple has to clearify if they are planning to do something and what.

Mine MacBook seems to be doing almost the same thing. The SL disk spins a bit then is ejected. It does the same thing with my first SL disk and the one Amazon sent as a replacement. I had the same trouble with the 10.5 Install disk purchased retail. Apple sent a replacement Non-retail disk and it worked. I can burn DVDs and read DVDs I've burned.

  • Stuck in recovery with foreign language can't insatll os COMPLICATED!!

Stuck in recovery (lanuage is set to foreign country and not changing when clicking on any other country) no wifi connecting tried ethernet not working? Just bought from ebay..2010 macbook pro..it was working fine when first put it on then i wiped the hard drive and tried to reinstall os mavericks but i cant understand any if of it because its in foreign language setting i go up to the right hand corner and change the language but it still just stays the same? I think the airport card could be broke? I put in ethernet and it read it as working but still wouldn't letting me install os? Could someone help?

A late 2011 MBP came with Lion (10.7).  Since you say that you have erased the HDD, I suggest that you do the following:
YOU WILL NEED A SOLID INTERNET CONNECTION.
Boot the MBP with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.
That should result in a display with a revolving globe.
This will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to install the original OSX (LION).
    Follow the instructions.
Installing Lion will create your own account with Apple.
Then you may download and install Mavericks (10.9) from the App store..
    Ciao.

  • Unwanted foreign language that won't go away!!!

    Hey
I recently had to reformat my hard drive and rebuild all the software on my laptop. Upon reinstalling itunes I notice that all the playlist titles are in a foreign language that I dont recognise.
Also in th preferences my library is entitled *Käyttäjän David kirjasto*
I uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and it is exactly the same. I'm at a bit of a loss. Does anyone have any ideas why this is and how to get rid of it?

    Hey there,
    Have you tried this?
To change your language settings on a Windows PC:
    Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Select the General tab.
On the Language pop-up menu (in the lower section of the window), choose your desired language.
    Click OK.
    Quit and reopen iTunes.
More information can be found through the link below. Hope this helps\

  • Auto Speech Alignment for foreign language dubbing

I just watched the excellent "How to use Auto Speech Alignment in Audition" video on Adobe TV, and noticed that he mentions that ASA can be utilized to add foreign language dubs to a video. I find myself in that very process at the moment, and would really like to hear how ASA can help, but all the video mentions is the fact that it supposedly can.

I suggest also using the "Comments" section for the page that the video is on as well.  This may get more eyes here, but it _should_ get the eyes of the video's producer there.
Anyways, the technology, does use spectral information in getting the alignment.  This is how it can achieve better results sometimes when compared to older existing technologies for automatic alignment.  For example, a waveform envelope may not be able to tell sibilance from a vowel sound when comparing an overdub vs the original field audio.  However, this is easy when looking at the spectral information and it can achieve a tighter alignment for that.
That is, of course, assuming that the same words are being spoken in a similar way between the two clips.
As for two different languges, I think it is a "Your Mileage May Vary" situation.  I think the intent of the suggestion is probably hoping that this feature can save you time if you wanted to get better lip-sync.  However, one can easily imagine that if the dubbed audio is stretched or squeezed too far that it (A) won't sound natrual, but more importantly (B) disrupts the performance of the voice actor.  On the other hand, if it is just doing micro adjustments it can make the timing better match that of the original mouth movements because it is making it match the timing of the original audio.
I would suggest people with actual real-world content to try it out and preferebly post a video of your results (either positive or negative).  That would be a good way to further the discussion.

  • Why the Unavailability of Foreign Language Keyboards in the US?

I am a foreign language student (Russian), and am trying to buy a foreign language apple keyboard (preferably wireless) in the states. I know they are available in Europe (my stepdaughter confirms she can get one thriugh her apple store), yet when I try to do the same here, they deny they even exist!! (This is the case even on the online store!!!)
I tried to order one from one of the European Stores online (actually, more than one) and it won't let me complete the order, even if I make payment in the local currency (pounds, euros, francs, rubles, or what have you).
This is a frustrating (and in my opinion, fairly serious) problem, and I am sure I am not the only one who is going through this fiasco. I certainly don't want to pay 5x the price via a "smuggler", I would rather get peripherials FOR my apple FROM apple.
So Apple, what gives? There's a market for these products here, my MacBook Pro WILL support this product... So why won't you let me buy one (or even admit to me you even have such a thing, when those overseas have free access to them)?

I do not want to get on your case, but Apple is a business, one that tries to make a profit. Carrying items in inventory that serve a tiny number of individuals in the US actually costs them money. But they'd also have to carry inventory in every single foreign language keyboard, and the costs become huge.
Moreover, and with all due respect, if you're here in the US studying, you really need a US English keyboard. And as the other poster said, you have access to the Russian character map for keys, so if you have to write home, you can write in Russian, and you'll be happy.
By the way, all of us here are users like you. Getting annoyed hardly ever gets you help. If you want to complain to Apple go here.

  • HT2242 When I open the icon it is in a foreign language and I do not get the box to Edit or to change my settings.  Please someone help!!

I have just downloaded itunes to my laptop and requested the English (United States) version.
When I open the icon it comes up in a foreign language that I have no idea what it is and I am not sure how to change it to English.
what can I do to get it back to English??

Here's an excerpt from the ipod 5th gen. manual:
(Note that you won't see the names they give here in brackets, because they'll be in the wrong language. They give you the place where each of the functions are, to get you to the change the language function.)
" If you accidentally set iPod nano to use a language you don’t understand
    You can reset the language:
Press and hold Menu until the main menu appears.
Use the Click Wheel to find the menu item that causes the iPod nano device name to
appear in the preview panel, and then choose it. That’s the Settings menu.
Choose the last menu item (Reset Settings).
Choose the first item (Reset) and select a language. "

  • Cleaning out foreign language files

I installed the latest Micro-Smith Spring Cleaning Ap.
To save space I've been deleting foreign language files.
How many of these can be removed?
    I've currently got 5627.
For example, do I need any Arab files?
I thought that when I initially installed Leopard I opted for only English, but the Spring Cleaning Language File Folder indicated that I had over six thousand.
MS Tech Support said, "I don't have the exact number of how many non english files there are. If you want, you can probably contact apple to see if they have an exact number of non-english files. To be honest, I would just leave it alone. Those files don't take up much space, and its not going to do your system any harm."
The files do take up space. If I don't need them why shouldn't I delete them?

As per one other respondent, I have used Monolingual with OSX (note:prior to Leopard. I haven't seen anything to confirm it won't mess up Leopard) but I haven't had any problems with it.
The advice it offers is to leave any file related to your main language - in other words if you use US English, keep International English. I also erred on the side of caution and kept anything that mentioned English. You can easily save about 2Gb of space doing this as it deletes a lot of project and help files related to apps like iDVD.
I'm no expert but if you opt for English as your installed language it might be the case that OSX installs in English but additional stuff like iLife still installs all the foreign language files.
It also gives you the option to remove unwanted processor architectures. I was wary of this option but I had no problems, although it didn't save quite as much space.
    Good Luck

  • What can I do about suddenly getting certain foreign language pages etc.?

A few days ago I suddenly started getting Yahoo's Netherlands' home page, whenever I went to check my e-mail. I had to click on the US tab to the back of the Netherlands' one, to even try to get on the US page. Then when I tried to sign in, the page made me answer a bunch of security questions, because it said I was trying to sign on from an "unrecognized device", even though I was using my computer like I always do. That happened again & again, then last night I could go right to the US page, by typing the URL or using a bookmark, but I still got ads down the sides etc. of the e-mail page, in a foreign language.
Well now today I suddenly noticed on my AOL e-mail page, I'm getting foreign language ads too!! And just a few minutes ago I got the Yahoo Netherlands' home page again!!
I e-mailed Yahoo about the problem a few days ago, but got no response, not even an automated one.
All other sites seem to be OK. I tried a link given to me by someone in a Delphi Forums group, for help if Google loads in a foreign language, but it doesn't for me, & I don't get any foreign ads when I'm in gmail.
Whatever the problem is, it's getting worse. And I really need to know how to fix it, before it starts affecting other pages/sites, & I'm not able to get on any I can understand. Please help!!

    Hello,
I loaded Firefox again, but that still didn't change anything. I went into my profile the same day, through a link on the trouble-shooting page, but there was nothing there except my user name!! I tried it again with the link you provided, but that screen said to close out Firefox entirely, & just use Windows. Well, that didn't work as the screen described it would, & so I couldn't do that either.
Yesterday I contacted a fellow I know who owns a programming, repair, etc. business, in another part of my state. He sent me a link for a mega spyware program. It found a Trojan etc., but cleaning those off my computer didn't help. He also told me the same as you all did, to load a "clean" copy of Firefox. I did that again just this morning, but nothing has changed. Since as I said, I can't seem to do anything with any sort of profile, I don't know what in the world to try now!! The guy told me yesterday also, that if loading Firefox again didn't help, that I might have what I think he called a "host error/problem", & he said those are quite difficult to fix.
So, thanks for all your efforts. Unless anybody else here has some ideas, I guess I'm stuck with the problem, & with a computer I don't "trust", even with the new mega spyware etc. program I loaded yesterday!
