Foreign language emails

Hi all,
For my work, I receive some emails that are written in Spanish. I used to be able to see them fine. Then recently the special characters are no longer displayed and now emails from certain senders (all from abroad) are displayed in a string of random character and can't be read at all.
Any idea of what just happened?
This is a recent issue (3-4 weeks). I have a MacBook pro that's 1 year old.
Many thanks for your help

Thanks!
For some reason the "content transfer encoding" is not being processed. In the first case it is "quoted-printable" and in the second it is "base-64." Sorry, I don't know what causes this. Normally this stuff should be converted automatically to normal letters before you see it, and normal emails contain code that tells the computer to do that. Perhaps that code is being deleted somewhere.

  • How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses

How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses??
    TIA
    C

Most email clients have a provision to create a 'rule'. The rule examines the email as it is received. In generally you can search for specifically senders, recipients, subjects, or specific content words in the body. Based upon the findings of the rule, you can do something with the email (such as end it directly to the Trash).
For example if you know where all of valid you emails come from, you can create a rule that checks the from field for an acceptable sender and sends those email's that to the inbox, while sending all emails from other senders to the trash or spam folder
Keeping out foreign language emails is often difficult because because often it is difficult to come up with a rule that will catch them on the basis of language they are written in.
There are also commercial products that can scan incoming email and 'score' the email based upon content, and you decide at what 'score'  you want the mail sent straight to the trash or spam folder. Verizon's spam filter does this based upon Verizon's scoring system, and actually does catch a lot of spam. It also occaisonally catches things that are not spam however....
    Hope that is helpful

  • How to Send Foreign Language Email from the iPhone

See this site for online keyboards for some other languages which can be used to generate a mail message from the iPhone.
    http://pointatme.com/keyboards/keyboard.html

The keyboard included in the current version of the iPhone is limited to English. But at this site you will find online keyboards for some European languages which can be used to generate a mail message from the iPhone.

And if you point the iPhone browser to this page you can send email in Japanese:

Could you send me some screen shots of what you are talking about (tom at bluesky dot org)? It could be junk fonts on your system or encoding glitches or a problem at the sending end.

  • Email body in foreign language??

I have 2 e-mail addresses directed to my Blackberry.  Some of the e-mails, not all, from one of the addresses (it's an att.net address) are coming through in a foreign language.  Not on my desktop, only on the Blackberry.  The Subjet Line is fine, the from address and to address are fine (english), but the body of the e-mail is either a foreign language or gobbledeygook (can't tell which, though they appear to be mostly possible German words???)
Maddening.  Have deleted that address and set it up as new, annd the same things happens.

    Hi!
I think this is possible if you are using a Unicode system. In non-unicode systems (4.6C or below), you might have to login to the system in taiwanese and hard code the text.
    Cheers!

  • How to get lookup to help in foreign languages (Fr.It.Greek, Latin) while reading email (incl attachments) or web articles?

I use MBP not iPad.  Lookup would be most useful in foreign languages I use.

If you open the Dictionary app in the Dictionary Preferences you can add British English, German, Japanese, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese. No Italian, Greek or Latin. You might send feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and ask to include more languages.

  • How can i set predictive text to a foreign language

I'm new to apple and iPhones. I've got everything setup in English but I frequently want to send text and/or email messages in French. When I do this predictive text jumps in and changes things to what it thinks I want in English. e.g. if I type tous it predicts I want toys and inserts it accordingly. How can I set predictive text to a foreign language.
(p.s. my wife's iPad works fine as it has a button to press for alternative language but I don't see anything similar for iPhone)

    Add the French keyboard.

  • Foreign Language Fonts

    Hi all
I have an Authorware piece which gets screen text and image
references from an Access database using ODBC.
My remit is now to produce the piece for several Foreign
languages. Some of them such as Polish and Czech have special
    characters.
When I copy the text into the database or even a text
processor, these special characters display OK. However when I try
to put them into Authorware in Display Icons, the characters do not
    show correctly.
I am sure that there must be something I am missing on the
properties side, so can anyone please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think native Authorware text handles unicode very
    well. You may be
able to get rtfOb.u32 to handle it.

  • Oracle User Guides in Foreign Languages

Does anyone know how to obtain Oracle User Guides a foreign language? We are internationally based. I've had no success on Metalink.

If the specific requirement is around training it may be worth contacting Oracle University as they may have local langusge manuals for courses conducted in country.
From a training perspective there may be someone who can give you information around Oracle Tutor. I seem to recollect that there were translation programs that came with this. However - it was a sales demo !!

  • Need foreign language dictionaries

In Appleworks there are foreign dictionaries. I cant find these in Pages. Is there a way of using or importing a foreign language dictionary?
I often have to do some work in Spanish or French and would like to have these dictionaries available.
Pages vs. 3.01 was installed when I installed Leopard. I purchased my license via email. Is there something missing when you purchase iwork this way - like dictionaries?

If you want all new documents to use spell checking of another language, you have to go through the following steps, for each template you intend to use.
    1. Open a new document with the template you want to use.
    2. Open the Styles Drawer (View > Show Styles Drawer).
    3. Select the first style in the list. (This is often "Free Form".)
    4. Change the language in the inspector as described above.
    5. Click on the red triangle to the right of the style name in the Style Drawer, and in the menu that pops up, choose "Redefine Style from Selection".
    6. Repeat steps 3-5 for every Paragraph Style in the Style Drawer.
    7. Go to File > Save as Template, and choose a good name of the template.
    8. If you have only one template you always want to use, you can choose it in Pages > Preferences > General > For New Documents, where you select "Use template:..." and then click on Choose... and choose the template.
Note that you can have several styles in the same document for different languages. You can for example have one style called "French body" and another called "Italian body". You can even associate shortcuts to the styles, in the Styles drawer, so you quickly can change between one language and another.

  • Foreign language character support

This question is for oracle 9i and above, on windows and linux.
Is there a way to create a foreign language dictionary that contains words from 2 or more languages? The words are to be stored in the native character set of the
language, along with the phonetic spelling and other data.
    Example:
    ENGLISH
    Main Entry: book
    Pronunciation: 'buk
    Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English bOc; akin to Old High German buoh book, Gothic boka letter
1 a : a set of written sheets of skin or paper or tablets of wood or ivory b : a set of written, printed, or blank sheets bound together into a volume c : a long written or printed literary composition d : a major division of a treatise or literary work e : a record of a business's financial transactions or financial condition -- often used in plural <the books show a profit> f :
    GERMAN
    book
bestseller -- das meistverkaufteste Buch des Jahres
Bible -- das allein maßgebende Buch
to bind a book -- ein Buch binden
to bind a book in boards -- ein Buch kartonieren
    book -- das Buch
a book for critical readers -- ein Buch für gehobene Ansprüche
this book is mine -- das Buch gehört mir
the book reads well -- das Buch liest sich gut
the book sells well -- das Buch geht gut
the book sells well -- das Buch verkauft sich gut
that book there -- das Buch dort
the book you want -- das Buch, das sie möchten?
to dogear -- Eselsohren in ein Buch machen
    Table design
language varchar2(15), -- eng, ger, rus, spn
    word varchar2(20),
    sound clob, -- mp3 file
    picture clob, -- jpeg file
description varchar2(1000); -- mostly free text
The SOUND mp3 file and picture jpeg files should be stored IN the database, not as
    an operating system file.
Also, need to store special characters, such as diacritical marks
(german unlaut ö, spanish tilde ~)
I believe this will require supporting multiple character sets, simultaneously.
Also, assuming this can be done, what are the implications for
entering data via web based forms and creating reports?

this is also an issue for text messaging and emails in non-latin character sets.
also, in a related issue, i have some symbols in passwords (symbols in the latin alphabet like ~ and ^) that can't be recognized by the web browser.  so, i'm unable to log in to some of my website accounts.

Nobody here has any way to tell you that, and Apple itself never provides this kind of info.  Make sure you tell them you want it here:

    hi
    i have a problem with a webapplication
in my webapplication i have some code that gets data from a webpage of another webapplication. This other web application can use many foreign languages
the problem is that those foreign languages contain some special characters, and those special chars aren't displayed the right way

my adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.
