Foreign language input on "Solaris 10"

Hello.
I installed "Solaris 10" via 5 CD's (minus the 6th, Languages CD).
My question is in what way can the GNOME desktop present an indicator of a language other than English?Via Preferences>Keyboard Layout I added Serbian, German and Bulgarian (it seems tha under my configuration four is the maximal number of languages I can add).The system did not reported any failure or error.
However, I do not know how to enable the keyboard to make inputs in Cyrillic alphabets (Serbian and Bulgarian) or in German latin.
There is no indicator present in the bottom panel, neither is one to be founded under items that may be added to the panel.
As you all know, even the feeblest of Linux distributions and all Windows distribution do provide a multilanguage support, available usually via icon that may be swithched or expanded into menu.I would be most surprised that a serious OS like Solaris would fail to provide such a simple solution to the needs of its users worldwide.
Thus I believe that the mistake is on a me: did I made a mistake by not selecting all those languages , or some of them (thinking that these are only files for regionalization of the GUI) or is there some other way, with or without the sixth CD, to establish an easy method for prompt switching among languages for keyboard input on the Solaris's GNOME-like desktop?
Can anybody of you could kindly explain me what is the issue here.
Thank you.

Thank you.serveral questions -
did you choose to install the locales you are referring to ?
if so, can you login to the terninal and choose one of those locales
and when you are in the gnome session, in the terminal if you
type echo $LC_ALL, it shows you the value for those locales ?
when typing xset q - what are the results - part of those results
shows the font path, and that is needed to be set for the fonts
to be found, though if locales are installed and you login to the
locale, that is set for you.
from that terminal can you input the characters of that locale, using
the key combinations that are needed ?
or could it be the 6th CD is needed, that it might have the locale info
and fonts for the locales you are referring to ?
Please send this addtional information when you can.

  • Assign alert sound to foreign language input

    I'm not a good typist, and I can not keep my eyes on the screen when I type.
    I use English and Japanese input. Sometimes I type in wrong language and waste a lot of time.
    Is there anyway to assign an alert sound when I start typing in the secondary language, so I know which input mode without checking the menu bar.

    AFAIK, this is impossible.

  • Foreign Language Input Help

    I am not too sure if this is the sub forum to express this problem.
    OK, I bought my phone in Singapore and obviously, the language settings would be in Chinese, English or Malay.
    What if I want to add another language into my phone, eg: Thai? I was browsing through some Thai websites from my phone and I noticed all the Thai words became boxes instead of the normal Thai scripts.
    Sometime I want to text message my Thai friends when I copy Thai scripts from my computer and try to load them into my phone. Is this possible if there is a way to make my phone read a language that it does not have?
    Thanks.

    You can ask a nokia care point to add languages to your phone. There may be a small charge for this service.

  • Firefox freeze whenever tired to change language input

    Hi. Whenever I tried to change language input to enter other languages Firefox freeze (program not responding).
    It happens as soon as I hit alt+shift or when I click language bar to select other language.
    It also happens with several languages (that I tested, might be all), and I tried various input software/mode including windows default, all freeze. Reset Firefox under help does not work either.
    This issue occur with Firefox and Chrome, but not IE... Might not be Firefox problem as it happen w Chrome, but and ideas please? Thanks.

    Edit:
    * regedit might be changed, but do not believe touched internet setting.
    * I can enter foreign language as long as I set that language to default, and do not change to other language in the language bar. Currently I am using foreign language input software as default, and switch to English input '''within '''that software.

    Hi. karaoke I am not sure if its the same issue. The crash at language switch on my computer was due to the IME for Eastern Language Banks (Language option -> Detail under text services and input languages -> Properties -> reset/untick auto learn).
    If you are not using Eastern Language IME... I am sure others here have more experience and can better help you. =)

  • Using a foreign language with the Java I/O, and saving to flat file.

    I want to use a foreign language in my program, in particular, russian. I want to be able to input the russian text into a GUI and then save the data in a flat file as well as retrieve it again. I am able to save some type of data to the flat file but it is unreadable. Question marks or some other unreadable characters appear instead.
    I am also not able to write in a foreign font. Can someone give me some advice for how to input a foreign language into with a GUI, save the information in a flat file, and retrieve it again.

    If you have got a String in Java somehow regardless of interior encoding mode, you can write it in a text file with an encoding you would like (e.g., UTF8).
    //import java.io.*;
    String str = "ABCEDFG";
    try{
       BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream("out.txt"),"UTF8"));
       bw.write(str);
       bw.close();
    }catch(IOException ioe){
        //process
    }

  • Xcode updating MySQL through phpScript in foreign languages

    I've a code in xcode which runs a web link to execute phpScripts.
    ================================================================================ ====
    NSString *strURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.???.com/1.php?customerid=你好"];
    // to execute php code
    NSData *dataURL = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:strURL]];
    // to receive the returend value
    NSString *strResult = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:dataURL encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
    ================================================================================ ====
    The problem with this is, when I try to input a foreign language as the variable 'customerid', the script will not be executed. Only English will be understood and executed, every other languages with foreign characters will not be executed.
    Please advise.

    You can't put anything other than plain, 7-bit ASCII in source code. You are even more restricted in URLs.
    A URL should live in a resource and it any high-order bytes should be encoded somehow.

  • Foreign Languages Not Working - Please Help!!

    Summary:
    I created a eCard application in Flash where a user can type in a message and a friend's name and email.
    The card works perfectly for English and Latin characters, but is displaying NOTHING for Korean, Japanese, etc...
    The text field is dynamic and the text is being pulled out of a database via php script that creates an XML on the fly.
    All settings are set to UTF-8.
    In the dynamic textfield, I have it set to embed all the specific character glyphs I need. IE. Korean, Japanese, etc..
    Anyone have any clue why the foreign characters are not displaying?
    Thanks,
    DK

    I'm not understanding your whole set up.
    So they input the characters into an input text field? Do the characters show up there?
    Then the file generates some XML that goes through PHP to a database.
    And then back again to be displayed in a dynamic textfield?
    At which point are the characters breaking? Are they getting to the database correctly? Is the database sending them out correctly?
    I've been on these forums a long time and very often with this type of thing the UTF-8 formatting is getting lost. Really. People are absolutley sure they are using that and then at some step the find out that isn't actually the case. So check that very, very carefully. Really.
    Beyond that I have heard occasionally that Flash under certain configurations has problems with some of the more unusually language input methods. I'm not sure of the details, but that would be a good place to look.

  • Using foreign language spellchecking in iWork '08?

    Hi there,
    I'm using an English setup of Mac OS X and iWork '08, yet I occasionally create documents in foreign languages like German, French, Dutch and Spanish. How do I change the language of the spell check to the language I'm using at that particular moment?
    thanks,
    Tobias

    I write in Latvian all the time and as far as I know, there are no proofing tools available in this language yet, and a limited number of fonts. Pages works much better than Word for Mac, in that once you have switched the flag to change the keyboard layout, it stays on what you have set it, whereas in Word, it kept resetting itself to American!
    I know this doesn't answer the original question, but I thought it was an interesting input!!!
    Thanks, KAtie

    Nobody here has any way to tell you that, and Apple itself never provides this kind of info.  Make sure you tell them you want it here:

    hi
    i have a problem with a webapplication

  • My adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

    my adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

    First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
    To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.
