Forest root domain displayed as network label, rather than child domain

Following on from this post (which I stupidly contributed to without realising it's a gaziillion years old):

I run a DMZ child domain which is pretty tightly locked-down, and the display name when you hover over the NIC shows the network as the forest root domain. None of the answers in the above thread state why this should be the case clearly, and a vague response
from support saying that 'Product Group' (which one?!) have been asked for feedback was never followed up on.
Since I can't open LDAP directly between my DMZ machines and the forest root PDC, and therefore can't even generate a profile to copy into a registry key & deploy either by GPO or batch file, I'm SOL finding a solution to this - but would at least like
a viable explanation for the behaviour, as opposed to 'it's by design'

Can I ask if something is not working correctly because of this? The display of the connected network does not affect communication or how DNS will resolve. Are you chasing this down because you don't like the display, or is there an outage?

First let me explain my Exch 2013 SP1 Multidomain set up.
1. DA as Forest Root domain, having schema master domain role installed.
DB as Tree Root domain in above forest
DC as Child domain in Tree root domain.
2. After set up, I ran 'netdom query fsmo' on each DC. It displayed schema master role on forest DC and domain role on individual DC on which command was run.
3. Now to install Exch 2013 SP1, ran appropriate command on forest DC (i.e PrepareAD, Prepareschema and alldomain).
4. Brought 1 machine in Child domain and installed Exch 2013 SP1 server on it.
Now, when I access ECP, Create user, new mailboxdatabse etc. options available only if login to ECP by ForestRootDomain\administrator credentials. please confirm.
while creating new user, it shows User Login Name with Child.TreeRootDomain.local default but after creating user, it shows [email protected] as Email address. Please confirm.

Unabel to get Set-ADServerSettings -ViewEntireForest $true command in exchange powershell.
can get only Set-AdServeiceAccount command.
Also if poosible, please confirm, weather multidomain set up is correct?

AD FS in Forest Root Domain

I have a AD FS 2.0 server (Server 2012) in my forest root domain. My user domain is a child domain within that forest. I am unable to find any documentation that tells me if I need to do any further configuration to have it authenticate users from the child
domain or if that should just magically happen because of the Parent Child trust relationship.
Upon rebuilding the server again and making sure that the server name and the pool name were diffrent so I could create the proper SPN entries, I am now unable to access my server using any of the AD FS urls'. It will prompt me for my credentials 3 times
and then tell me I am not Authorized. I have been searching on the web but have been unable to find the solutionsI have made DNS changes, added http SPN entries. Changed the Authentication settings on IIS... I am stuck. Any help would be great.

I have been using the "AD FS 2.0 Step-by-Step Guide: Federation with Shibboleth 2 and the InCommon Federation".
I am trying to federate with a diffrent organization where I am the IP and I have no control over the SAML 2.0 side... That being said, I changed my DNS and now I can get to my server using the IDPInitiatedlogon URL. When I run
through the URL that bounces me between the other organization and then back to my AD FS server.... I get stuck in a loop where it asks me for credentials 3 times and then tells me I am "Not Authorized"

It seems to be stuck looping between /adfs/ls and /adfs/ls/auth/integrated . It then times out and gives me the error in the browser.

How to put an asterisk in the field label rather than on the field in Infopath

For a mandatory field in Infopath, we know that the red asterisk shows up always on the control. Is there a way we can make it appear on the label instead.

From your description, my understanding is that you want to put an asterisk in the field label rather than on the field in Infopath.
By default, the asterisk is on the field, not the field label. If you want to put an asterisk in the field label, per my knowledge, you need to develop the column to do it.
For developing InfoPath controls, I suggest you create a new thread on Visual Studio Tools for Office forum, more experts will assist you with Office development.

Safari displays a .qfx file rather than writing it

When I connect to my local bank and direct it to download my transactions record as a .qfx file, Safari displays the contents of the file on the window, rather than writing the data to a .qfx file. I do not see this behavior with FireFox. Java scripts are enabled.
I'm running OSX 10.9 on a MacBook Pro.

Thanks for suggestions. Carolyn, I did as you suggested but didn't solve problem. KeeChan, as explained in original post, that is my usual fallback but not all web sites work like that. Try downloading Safari - right click (Ctrl Click) on download button and all you get is the "Download.png" image.
I finally found the answer. A long time ago I had downloaded and used "SpeedDownload" and had deleted it. Somehow, some trace of the app was left behind and the mime association with dmg files was messed up.
You can not get rid of Speed Download by throwing its files away or by using an app cleaner product. You MUST run the Speed Download installer program and select the "uninstall" option to remove it.
My browsers now download dmg files correctly.

Automator searching labels rather than tags

Hi,
I'm having a problem with automator since labels changed to tags.
I have a few different tags on each file which I'll call Tag A, Tag B, Tag C, and Tag D. Tag A and Tag B are both orange, Tag C is yellow, and Tag D is blue.
If I have a file that should be Tag A and Tag D so I tag it with both tags. The file shows up like this:
When I use tags in finder it shows up in both Tag A and Tag D.
In automator if I search for Label = Orange it shows up, but when I search Label = Blue it doesnt show up.
My first question is can I search by tag instead of label in automator? Either using a plugin or script?
My second question is can I search for Tag A rather than Tag B? I say that because they are both orange but are distinguished by the tag name. What I usually do is search for Label = Orange and Any Content = Tag A.

Use boolean operators (i.e. Tag:Green OR tag: Grey NOT Tag:Blue)
For multiple tagged files use: Tag:Green AND Tag:Gray
mdfind can also be used:

Is there an about:config option to change FF's default action when closing a tab so that it displays the previous tab rather than the next tab?

With the new 3.6 tabbing behaviour (new tabs open to the right of the current tab, rather than at the end of the tab list), the old default behaviour when a tab is closed is no longer appropriate. Instead of displaying the next tab after the one that was closed, FF should display the previous one. Is there an about:config option to change the default behaviour upon closing a tab?

Display description of report rather than the technical name

Hi all
I have made a few reports using the Bex report designer that have been emailed to end users by the bex broadcast facility as a PDF
However, when end users receive the email the attached PDF received has the technical name rather than the description.
Does anyone know how to change this so that end users receive the PDF with the description rather than the technical name.

Yes the DOS 8.3 shortname format is the only accepted for the ThinkVantage button registry key.
One general way to obtain DOS 8.3 formats from a path except from DIR /x in a CMD window is to use execute a VBSCRIPT file that uses the FileSystemObject class
If you save the following sample vbscript code to a text file with .vbs extension and open it in file explorer it will write the short path of LSC.exe to a file text file named "Path_DOS83.txt":

I would rather you to stick with ad.company.com where the company.com is the website. Actually I prefer to use a child domain for AD tasks.

Image retrieved from UCM is displayed as a link rather than an image

Hi Folks,
Back again with another question which probably has a very simple answer but I cant see the solution, so firstly my apols!
I am trying to get a single image from UCM and display it on a page. So far I have worked out how to query UCM for the image I want to and up to now have been able to get the page to render properly etc.
However, the problem I have now is that the image is not displayed, rather a link to the image (I believe this is the default). The only way to get the image to display is to click the link. I have tried various things such as changing the render options, the template category and template view but without any success. Instead of creating an image tag in the browser, an '<a></a>' is created.
Hopefully someone can tell me where I am going wrong and suggest a solution?

Music Video displays wrong ARTWORK. Displays a POSTER FRAME rather than the JPG that I have given it.

I am using ITunes 11.05.5 on Windows 7 Professional.   Have thousands of videos ... MP4 Music Videos.   I make my own "ARTWORK" (on JPG per artist for all music videos by that artist). I place the artwork in the file by "GET INFO", "ARTWORK", copy in my own JPG Image.    I confirm that there is only one image in the ARTWORK and that it is the correct image.   When I save and go back to the GET INFO everthing is fine.   When I view it in MS Explorer or in ID3-TAG the ARTWORK is also fine.   This process works fine for most everything but unexplainably fails and I can't fix it on certain occasions.
THE FAILURE:    Let me explain the problem that occurs on rare occasions (and once it occurs I can't ever fix it).   Lets say I have 5 music videos from the artist, John Jones.    I embed my own artwork (the same ARTWORK for all music videos from this same artist, John Jones) and all five videos group under the proper. same ARTWORK in the GRID VIEW.   Now, I obtain another music video from John Jones, once again I put the same ARTWORK on this file and now when I go into GRID VIEW it displays a POSTER FRAME (of that artist, John Jones) that I have never seen (although it must have come from the video since it is a POSTER FRAME of John Jones) ..... from that point on, all six music videos from John Jones also display that same ARTWORK (the wrong poster frame - but same poster frame for all John Jones music videos) even tho the first five were displaying properly before (but not longer).     It is as if a POSTER FRAME of John Jones is in cache and associated with the artist John Jones and can not be deleted.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ITunes, but it doesn't work.    I have tried deleting the new Music Video that I added and that started the problem (number six); hoping the the original five would return to nomal ... but that does not work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

The "Far Far Away" title is displaying a white box rather than the entered text. Is there any way to restore the title code so that it works properly?

The "Far Far Away" title (which I have used quite frequently) has stoped working and just displays a white box where the text should be displayed.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or have a suggestion as to a resolution. This is in IMovie '11 Version 9.0.8.

Yes, I've considered adding titles and/or generators in the FCPX storyline, but this creates a need to render the entire timeline. As I'm juggling library locations and hard drive spaces I just didn't want to add a new render that will occupy a lot of space. It's also a bit of visual clultter for me, so my goal is to find the best workflow for adding this stuff on or after export.

Can I address a Hard drive by its volume label, rather than its letter?

Hi All,
I have a question about file paths... I'm building an instrument and have a spare USB port internally. I want to use that to attach a simple flash drive to give the system on-board storage. The system itself is run by a separate PC to which it connects via a USB interface (there's a USB hub internal to the system, hence the spare USB port).
I've been able to format the USB flash drive and give it a label which shows up when the device is plugged into any computer. However, the drive letter associated with the device will vary from PC to PC since each PC may have a different number of drives already installed when I plug my system in. Is there a way to use my label to either address the flash drive directly, or at least to determine its drive letter within labview?

Possible to make labels, rather than fields, blinking?

Is it possible to just make the labels of a field blink? How does one get at the properties to do that? My boss is looking for something more subtle that blinking fields.

How did you "place it on the block diagram"? You can't just copy and paste, you have to save the snippet as a PNG file and drag that onto a BD.
And, speaking of that, when I created that snippet, it seems to have gotten messed up saving it as the PNG. It won't work just as shown, the property nodes need to be directly from the numeric and slide indicators, not the generic nodes to the refnums. This time I'll just attach the VI.
