Forget Rebranding, Have You Tried Unbranding?

Last night I served bacon, eggs, and fruit for dinner. My children were shocked. “You can’t have breakfast for dinner!” I tried to explain that breakfast, lunch, and dinner were defined by the time of day you consume food, not the type of food you’re consuming. Of course, over time eggs and bacon have been classified as breakfast, sandwiches are for lunchtime, and spaghetti is preferred at dinner time. We’ve branded food based on habit. But here’s something interesting, my son always passes on scrambled eggs at breakfast time, but he gobbled them up at dinner. I didn’t reclassify them as a dinner food, simply “these are eggs and we’re eating them for dinner”. I unbranded the food.
Rebranding vs. Unbranding
Many tenured companies are working through rebranding exercises. They want to shake off the image of an out-of-touch company, or perhaps a tarnished reputation. They begin to explore new messaging, tone of voice, and logo changes. It’s important to point out that your brand is more than a logo and corporate color scheme. A brand is the idea or image of a specific product or service that consumers connect with, and yet many companies don’t work to understand what their audience’s perception is of the existing brand.
But perhaps rebranding isn’t what’s needed.

  • Have you tried your iPhoto 5 DVD backups with iPhoto 6?

    Hi,
Have you tried your iPhoto 5 DVD backups with iPhoto 6?
When I upgraded to iPhoto 5 I had to rebuild all my previous iPhoto 4 backups to the new version. It took hours and I had to re-burn the DVDs in the new format.
    Thanks,
    -meny

    Hi Lori,
I meant a CD or DVD burned from within iPhoto 5.
If you made such CD/DVD in iPhoto 4 and opened it in iPhoto 5, the library had to be rebuilt. This took up to 15 minutes.
If iPhoto 6 can open iPhoto 5 libraries without a need to rebuild, that's great news!

  • 10.4.7 server - have you tried it? good version or not?

Apple claims that the 10.4.7 version fixes a problem described in a large post on this section of the board called "Tiger 10.4.4 Slow Afp access when AppleFileServer app takes up 100% CPU".
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=343979&tstart=0
I am trying to detirmine if this problem is fixed or if 10.4.7 causes other issues. Have you tried it? If so how is it doing?

    John,
I feel your pain, although not far enough into the year to be sure, so far my server is doing better. I do not particulary attribute it to 10.4.7 though. As I understand it 10.4.7 allowed for more CPU cycle. Don't know how much RAM you have in the server but more is better. The one thing I do suggest is redirecting your cache locally. I am trying to keep things patched together until the Intel servers come out and appear stable. I do note that my eMacs are agonizingly slow when I do a netboot restore and they seem the most problematic.
    Good luck, keep in touch.

  • Have you tried to see your broadband useage monito...

I wonder how many of you good folks out there have tried to have a peek at how many Gbs youve
used, by accessing the Useage Monitor via 'My Services' on MyBt.  If you have like me - youll sadly discover
it just aint there.   If -like me you got on the dog and bone and spoke to someone in the technical dept.
then without doubt-as always - youll find a most helpful and apologetic advisor.
However, not only-as in my case- did i feel sorry for my advisor because he tried in vain (not
knowing that Bt had removed this option) - but I felt sorry for all those customers like myself who had to
go through all the hassle of 'ringing in' -waiting while the apologetic advisor did a remote check of my computer
only to find- as I already had- that this option no longer existed.   My question is this- and maybe someone out
there in the ether can answer this.   Why, when having provided such a fantastic Broadband access, do Bt find
it beyond themselves to amend the website when they remove something as important as the usage monitor.
What I want from ANY website is to do what it says ' on the tin' -  Sadly My Bt doesn't at the
moment.    Come on guys and gals - get your act together.  This sort of thing detracts from an otherwise
    splendid service.    Cheers   Roy Henry

    Hi.
The usage meter is certainly working for me, and I expect most other people.
There does seem to be a problem for some at present, as there are quite a few posts on this topic. However my set of links (my shortcuts options 14d-14f) one of which tends to work.
It's not clear at present what the actual problem may be. Have you tried more than one browser to access the usage meter ?

  • Have you tried?

For all the people having trouble with their Nexus there are a few questions I like to ask.
    1. Have you done a factory reset with Google backup turned off? Reason I ask this is because you could have corrupted cache backed up which will ALWAYS cause problems no matter what Android device you have. If an app is not 4.0 ready and you have it's cache saved it also may cause problems.
    2. Have you tried flashing 4.0.2 again from Google Source? Reason for this one. Like with any computer sometimes things don't install right. Doing this may install the update correct.
    3. Can I have screenshots or state what hardware version you have? Please remove any identifying lines if they are there like IMEI or telephone number. I have a theory and I want to talk it over with some coworkers to see if we can help.

The only problems I have with the phone, is the restart that happens once in a while, but that happens when I have TuneIn Radio running. ESPN radio doesn't run for more than 45 sec at a time, and Angry Birds sometimes will close while playing. These are all app issues. Once in a while I have an issue with network, but not anything that is out of the ordinary. But I thought I would include the screenshot of the phone particulars for your investigation.
Yes I bought the phone on Launch day, and got it the next day via FedEx. So it is one of the originals (at least I think)

  • Many FTP publishing problems. Have you tried this??

I run many websites with different webhosts. I was sooo happy with the new FTP feature untill I tried to get it to work. Test worked, upload didn't. Test worked, publishing worked, nothing showed up on actual website. test worked, publishing worked, it showed up on site, but if I added another change it didn't work etc etc etc....... All my problems were solved when I called the hosts, asked them where to publish the site and fill that in in the Directory/Path bar. I use public for Telus (in Canada). But I use WWW for 4goodhosting. So every host has a different folder (I think). Everything is working now!!! I don't know a lot about all this stuff, but all my problems are solved and for the first time in 4 days I am happy with iWeb again!!

This is not so. Lots of people here host business sites and choose to host these on an external server because it provides faster loading times and extra features and if you use a dedicated ftp programme such as Cyberduck and you upload all the correct files, then there should be no problem at all.
Publishing to MobileMe and forwarding is one option, but at times loading times are slower, as I discovered myself and I have had no problem at all using Cyberduck to upload all my files. My sites looks just the same as it did on MME.

  • Have you tried a Unicomp 122-key KBD with Arch?

The keyboard description is here: http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/122keyterkey.html
I'm considering the PC/5270 version, since according to the site it accepts "normal" PC keycodes, and if I'm understanding what I read in the Arch Wiki it should be little trouble to get it set up to suit me. Has anyone tried it? I'm not a gamer, so that isn't a factor for me.
Due to severe arthritis (RA) my fingers are stiff and a little jerky at times and I make a lot of false/wrong keystrokes with a modern soft-touch KBD - Ctrl/Alt/Shift combinations are especially difficult at times. I tried an old IBM Model M and it really helps, but the used one I found is a little glitchy due to age as was the one before it. I want to buy a brand new buckling-switch "clicky" KBD and was browing the Unicomp site when their 122-key version caught my eye. I've spent some time with the IBM version in the past and I really liked it. If I can get a new Unicomp to work well with Arch, I'll be elated, but I don't want to buy yet another keyboard I don't like or can't fully utilize.
Thank you for any light you can shed on the topic.
edited to add - I'm running 64-bit Arch, I don't think it matters but it might.

I've handled/owned quite a few myself, but this one has a bad downarrow key and a few more keys that have intermittent problems. The box is a new Lenovo with good tight clean PS/2 plug receptacles so I'm not losing any connection integrity from jury-rigging adaptors ... I'm guessing it's the keyboard. It also turned out to be a "soft touch" instead of "buckling spring" kbd when it got here from the eBay seller and it would cost more than the refund I'd get to send it back. Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you.
Ahhhh, no worries, I found a nice 1995 IBM Model M 82G2383 brand NEW in the original box from clickykeyboardss.com, it was $80 but it will likely outlast me. It doesn't have all those neato extra keys, but it's a bit cheaper, and it's a real IBM. Shame he didn't have any left in black ...
Thanks for the comments, and a Merry Christmas to all!

  • Have you tried Visual VM yet?

Visual VM is a new troubleshooting tool. It is currently an open source java.net project:
[https://visualvm.dev.java.net/] VisualVM is built on the NetBeans framework. It contains all the functionality of JConsole plus a lot more. It uses the NetBeans plugin architecture so that you can write your own plugins for it. There is also a plugin repository from which you can download plugins that others have contributed.
VVM was demo'd at the start of James Gosling's Friday keynote session at JavaOne 2008. James called it 'The most useful thing you will see today'. He's right. The demos
of the Java Rea-Time System sorting colored balls, and Tommy the robot car are cool, but VVM is way more useful :-)
You can watch the VVM demo here:
[http://java.sun.com/javaone/sf/media_shell.jsp?id=FRdamp267672] You can find other videos of JavaOne keynote sessions here:

I tried VisualVM on windows server 2003, 64 bit, on jdk 1.6.06 64bit vm.
After run it, I can monitor VisualVM on Local, every thing is ok no this node.
    I have a Tomcat6 , start by service mode,
after start it, I can find a <Unknow Application id=xxx> node in left panel (Local) of VVM,
(it supports to be the Tomcat6 process, I can validate this by checking hsperfdata_Administartor folder)
However in right panel, I cannot monitor this Tomcat6 process. I got a 'not supported for this JVM' in the JVM arguments tab.
Same configuration(not really same, I configure it as same as possible) works on my another 32 bit PC..
    Any ideas?

  • Msi x58 platinum 1.5 bios, have you tried ???

i see that bios version 1.5 for the x58 platinum is officially out now on msi website downloads (not beta).
has anyone tried it and is there any benefits noticible ?? iam still on version 1.1.

    Quote from: David J on 18-May-09, 03:15:41
You asked Mike, but in layman's terms smart fan is a fan that will automatically adjust its rpms based on the system's temperature. S3 is an industry standard for when the computer goes to "sleep" in order to save energy.
i went in bios for a look on smartfan, i found it, mines is disabled and iam unsure how it should be set, so i left it alone, it has options to change it from 40c up to 70c, but iam unsure what it should be set to, could someone tell me ??
i also noticed that in bios i can set the system fans too, 3 settings, 50%, 75% and 100%, mines are all on 100%, again i left them alone at 100% as iam not sure what they should be set to, can someone please tell me ??
This may help, i have an i7 920 and its clocked to 3500, my tempreatures are not too bad, on running the intel burn test the very very most the cpu temp peaks at for a second now and again is 64c.
And my system sounds like a rocket ship, LOL, fans are LOUD.
    hope someone can help ,me.

  • Upgrade Mac Mini 2010 to SSD, have you tried this?

Hi all, and this is my first discussion thread.
I'm currently running my Mac Mini 2010 with a SATA Male to Female cable and ext. SATA power on a WD VelociRaptor 150GB.
The solution isn't really elegant i feel and it generates alot of heat from the drive and some extra noise when loading heavy applications eg. parallels desktop.
I've even up the ram to the max 8GB as well and everything seems zippy so far.
Earlier there are alot of talk about SSDs requiring TRIM on the operating system and as what we know Mac OS X Leopard
does not have integrated TRIM support.
So i'm basically looking at SSD candidates that will:
    - run the power provided by the Mac Mini's (5V) integrated PSU
    - don't require TRIM support to manage garbage collection on the hardware level.
So far, i've only 2 candidates:
    - Crucial RealSSD
    - Kingston V100+
Which one will you shell out for and why?
    Additional question:
    - If i remove the superdrive on my mac mini, can i get a external USB superdrive? is there such a thing at all?

theres no reason why it should not work, plug in the HDMI cable, select the Source input on LCD(HDMI 1/2), if still no picture on the Mini open System Pref>Display : Resolution> it should show 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p and other lower resolutions, just select 1080p and to your right select 60hz. Hope this helps.

  • Have you tried running Oracle Graphics demo in 6i? Urgent

I have tried old OGDEMO package which perfectly runs with Forms
4.5 and Graphics 2.5 the same with og.pll library after
recompiling in 6i, giving errors like og-01629 and og-00609.
Drill Down demo example is not working and so many others.
    Please guide.
    Thanking You

    Hello,
I have followed your suggestion and did as per the instructions in the demo.
Please find below the details :
    1. I have copied the 'Demos 11g' folder in the folder which contains the 'Forms' folder. (meaning my Forms and Demos 11g are in the same location)
    2. In the application definition in the formsweb.cfg file - I have added the FormsGraph.jar. Check the below line.
    archive_jini=......,forms/demos_11g/demos/jars/FormsGraph.jar
3.Then I copied the FormsGraph.jar file into the forms/java directory.
4.I have also made the below entry in the formsweb.cfg
    [BIGraph]
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,/forms/formsdemo/jars/demo.jar,forms/demos_11g/demos/jars/FormsGraph.jar
    archive=frmall_jinit.jar,/forms/formsdemo/jars/demo.jar,forms/demos_11g/demos/jars/FormsGraph.jar
    * I was able to execute the Graph.fmb and could see the Graph. *
But in the layout editor i got this error :
FRM-13008 Cannot find JavaBean with the name 'Oracle.forms.demos.bigraph.FormsGraph' .
To resolve this I updated my CLASS_PATH (env variable in the system - control panel)
    /forms/demos_11g/demos/jars/FormsGraph.jar
And the above error was resolved. :-).
But the sad part is that now when i execute the Graph.fmb , I CANNOT SEE the graph :( :(
I reverted back the change that I made with the CLASS_PATH variable but still the graph is not visible.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    SRT

  • Have you tried Dmail?

I installed it last week and also use Virtru.  They both seem to have a limited use case for me though.  They can't really 'self destruct' a message because someone can take a screen shot of it or write it down, so there is that.  Sometimes I use it email credentials or other sensitive data, but really the same things applies where the recipient can write it down on a sticky and leave it on their desktop and all the encryption and self destruct options don't help.
So the best use case I can think of for myself is to email an untrusted vendor/customer some credentials or other sensitive data and tell them the email will be destroyed after some hours, but even then I don't feel I have gained much..

Just got wind of a new Chrome plugin that makes it easy to send self-destructing messages to people. It's not exactly a new concept (a few other tools do this), but I thought I'd share:
    https://mail.delicious.com/
I could see this being handy if I needed to send someone login credentials or things of that nature, but is this something you could see yourself using?

  • WiFi Hotspot - have you tried it?

I tried using my Droid X as a WiFi Hotspot this weekend at my son's house. Previously I had a feature phone and frequently used it to provide Internet access for my laptop with no difficulty. The WiFi hotspot was another matter entirely. At first it stayed connected for a long time - probably over an hour. Then it just shut off and I had to click on the application to get it to start the hotspot again. The time it would stay up got shorter and shorter until I got to the point where I could only load one page before it would drop. At times it reported that the service was unavailable. This was at the same time that a MiFi and Verizon USB modem both worked flawlessly.
Signal conditions probably couldn't be better. I could look out the window and see the Verizon antenna and the phone reported 3G/4 bars at all time. This is out in the country so the cell towers probably operate at a higher power than where they are spaced closer in the city.
I spoke with a Verizon tech and she suggested pulling the battery while the phone was on to force a full restart of the OS. That took me from a page at a time to about 20 minutes of uptime. (Interesting - the Droid X hotspot commercial just came on TV. ) This morning I just gave up as the link dropped repeatedly in the middle of downloading a batch of podcasts.
The performance of the WiFi Hotspot is a huge disappointment and bordering on unusable at times, even in locations with a superior signal.
I'm curious if anyone else has used the hotspot feature and if so, how did your experience compare.
    thanks,
    hank

I looked at using btrfs as it is one of the few file systems in linux with built-in compressed read/write support, but find its compression implementation too poorly executed to use at the moment...
When I do a df on my root partition when mounted with reiser4 (which I use chose to use after trying btrfs) I get:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/root 463M 393M 71M 85% /
Which is fine, and when I start using more space the amount of available slowly decreases to 0 (at which point you can run into kernel oops type issues :-s ) which is faily logical...
But when trying to do the same with btrfs I get:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/loop0 490M 322M 169M 66% /mnt
which looks really good (ie heaps better compression performance etc), however when I try and put more files on the btrfs filesystem I get out of space errors after copying on only another 20mb and df reports:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/loop0 490M 328M 163M 67% /mnt
implying there's a whole pile of space there to use even though there's not... Which is difficult to deal with... (read as crap to deal with :-p )
I can also fit a little over 100mb (of randomly installed packages) more on the partition with reieser4 than with btrfs which is a big bonus imo (or big negative of btrfs)....
Their compression setup seems quite flawed to my eye, and compression is something very important to my choice of filesystem...
So in my experience btrfs isn't as yet polished enough to fulfil its potential (just for what I use it for though, I know btrfs is designed to do a whole pile of things reiser4 isn't)...
