Forget the loss of face Adobe, do the right thing

All the time that this débacle persists, millions of Flash Player users are exposed to malware threats.  What is more important, functionality or safety?  Your first duty is to use best efforts to make the player as safe and secure as you are able to.  You are failing in this.  No amount of stonewalling can conceal the mess.  What incentive is there to keep software up to date and secure when new releases fail as badly as this one?  It's hard enough to persuade most people to keep their systems safe and up to date without this sort of thing happening.
Version 10.0.2.45 installed like a dream.  Didn't Adobe test this new release?  It's pathetic to suggest workarounds when the installer software should be doing the job properly.
Shame that a highly critical security problem occurred coincidentally with a new release.
Flash Player is not free software.  It is paid for by users of the Flash creation software.  Without Flash Player, their work cannot be viewed.

  • Why Can't VZ do the Right Thing For Once and Permit Network Extender Owners to Close their Networks?

Given the fact that the Network Extender can be set for managed access or open access, clearly it can technologically be configured so that a closed network could be set up so that ONLY those users that are included in the "priority list" could access the Network Extender.
If I had to guess, Verizon, prefers to benefit from your internet connection and your investment in a network extender by bolstering their network in poor reception areas for all of their customers in the vicinity on us Network Extender owners' backs rather than to do the right thing and permit a customer who has paid for the device as well as their internet access to close the network.
I find this sleazy and hope VZW will rethink its approach to this.  We who subscribe to VZW for our cellular service pay the highest rates, on average, in the country for cell service.  We have also paid hundreds of dollars for the Network Extender, and pay for the internet that is used to facilitate the phone calls made through the network extender.
Once it a while it would be nice if VZW did the right thing for its customers and not blatantly, at least, put their corporate greed about the needs of their customers.

I called Verizon tech support, and was informed that there is an option to close the Network Extender. This would allow only numbers on the white list to connect to the extender. Is the information I received incorrect? I spoke to them just the other day. Have you tried to configure the extender recently?
My post asking for clarification is here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1002928#1002928

  • Cursor Hover Pop-up Doesn't Say the Right Thing?

    Hello everyone,
I'm a fairly new Macbook user and I'm beginning to notice that the the yellow boxed pop-up doesn't always relate to or say the right thing. For ex. if I had about 6 to 7 tabs open, the tabs found further right have no problem giving me a brief description as to what the tab is about if I hover over it. On the other hand, the tabs more on the left would give me links to Twitter, Wikipedia, Apple, etc (basically the shortcuts above the tabs) even though they're something completely different.
I also couldn't help but notice that the little bubble that pops-up sometimes displaces itself too (top left or right corner). I thought both of these issues were happening because I hadn't updated my OS X system but even after doing so, the same thing occurred. It's not a huge problem but I personally find it annoying, especially when I have many tabs in one window and can't always make out what it says. I kind of like the hovering tool when working.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have done al the right things to set up home sharing for mine and my sons itunes lib but i still not getting the icon showing in the menu for us to select can anyne help?

Hi I have done all the right things to set up the home sharing, turned it on, aurthorised it with the same details, but we still have not got the home icon in the menu to select. can anyone help?

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

I agree..I'm not going to get ahead of myself and plan out what I want to buy before anything is really gone into detail. But I do say if it's just for the Apple online store (not iTunes store) then that Apple protection plan for the iPhone that I haven't got yet looks pretty nice. But if it's for iTunes as well then I'm getting $100 worth of 24 season 6, ringtones, and songs.

CREATE_RECORD;Built in it's doing the same functionality of the same(+) sign in tool bar... inside a loop or in when button pressed or any related trigger.
it's depending on when u want it to fire.
But specifically u have Key-CREREC trigger is doing the same action as the same(+) sign inserting new record.

  • Apple, please do the right thing

Please don't turn your back on your most loyal supporters, those who waited in the rain and heat to be the first proud owners of iPhones. A $50 or $100 iTunes credit would go a long way in restoring our faith in you.
I know it's normal for prices to drop, but not 33% in 60 days. The PR alone from this is ugly enough for you to want to make some kind of concession to your loyal customers. Remember people laughing at those waiting on line for iPhones, calling them kooks? Do you want those mocking laughs to turn out to be true? That people who buy Apple products are kooks who pay too much money and are screwed by a company they revere?
Please, do the right thing Apple.

I hope both of you are right in the next week or so

they ought to let you trade up for a 16gb when that comes out at no charge

  • I would like to know why ASC removed my comments and pleads saying they were rantings?  Maybe so, but if you received more than 100 emails a day, you would too! I have done all the right things to not receive these emails but to no avail. Can someone help?

For months now I have been puting up with receiving emails generated from Apple Support Communities - sometimes more than 100 a day. Needless to say I am angry.  I have done everything I have been told to do so as not to receive them BUT they still keep on coming all day and all night.  It is messing up my sytem and taking too much time out of my busy day.  When I responded to another person's same problem, I immediately received an email from Apple Support Communities telling me that they have removed my responses from Apple Support Communities!  This, after only one day, when I have been writing and requesting help to have these emails stop from cloging up my email!  Of course I am upset and now even more.
Please, if someone knows how to stop these emails from entering my box, I would really appreciate hearing.  In the meantime I continue to delete one by one.Linda166

  • Media Manager...am I doing the right thing?

I'm making an amateur film in Final Cut Pro. Since I'm doing the sloppy (although much less time consuming for me) batch capture method, I have right now far too much DV footage for my scratch HD.
To fit in the final scene, I have to delete some material. I was going to use the media manager, set it to "Use Existing" media and delete anything that was unused in a few of my sequences. I tried this in a test sequence by selecting the sequence alone and then performing the media manager operation. It seemed to work fine.
    My questions are these--
    1. If I captured my footage as one big clip, then split up the big clip and made the split clips into "independent clips," am I doing anything egregiously wrong with the Media Manager with these settings?
    2. Is there any tutorial/link/settings anyone can recommend in the media manager for a newcomer to FCP like myself? Any suggestions about how to make sure I won't delete something I don't want to?
    Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, no. Media Manager is a failure in FCP
that has been completely ignored by Apple since it
    was introduced.
Not quite true... It's been rewritten several times... the interface isn't friendly, partly because it does so many different things other than just consolidating media...
But no one seems to take the time to read the top box which explains what you have set the MM to do... it's there and very understandable - just nobody seems to read the dang thing...
For some folks, MM works perfectly
    and predictably.
Like me who reads the summary, and consistently use it before the media has taken all the space up and there's no way to make "copies" first... And when the audio is finished in the offline, I'll copy and paste the clips to the mm'd sequence, or export a stereo mix and edit that into the MM'd sequence.
I encourage you to search the forum for Media Manager
posts. It will take you several hours to wade through
the screeds but you will find many helpful
    suggestions.
The explanation in FCP's manual explains it pretty well... again user's are not reading the manual... See section IV-77 of the manual (available online thru help if you don't have the printed copy handy).
Because of this, my next commercial training effort (a DVD) will have a very detailed explanation of the MM... and it's not going to be a reading exercise... rather a QT movie of it all... no reading required.
And in answer to the original post, the only thing that could cause problems is the fact that "using existing" will delete the original files in the process and if there's a hitch there (like a corrupted copy, or a crash etc.., you can't recover as easily. It's safer to use "copy" instead, but that of course requires that you have open space for the copies that you can check before you delete the original files so it's really not going to be useful to those who didn't think ahead... pretty common problem.
I'm not saying that MM is without flaws (the confusing interface is one of them apparently), but am saying that there's a way to use it properly and have a lot better time of it...
Jim Cookman here has a workaround that works very well too... Don't use it. Instead, Jim logs clips as individual master clips first, so he can manually delete media that is no longer needed... Of course this takes the patience that most users don't seem to have for what ever reason.

  • Can I trust the optimizer to do the right thing every time?

    Hello,
I have a Business Objects report that is performing poorly, I kind of found something akin to a solution but I'd like a second (and third, and...) opinion about is suitability. I don't know much about BO, so I'll stick to the SQL part.
So, the query looks something like that:
    SELECT ..... FROM
-- this is the generic part of the report
< long list of ANSI joins here>
RIGHT JOIN some_table ON (conditions - non parametrizable from the report - not allowed by BO)
<some more joins for good measure>
-- end of the generic part, up to here nothing can take user parameters
    WHERE
-- this is the specific part, from here on, the conditions can take user parameters
    some_column = @some_param
....So far so simple. Now, I'm trying to find a way to push some user defined parameters in the generic part.
I can to this using package variables, something like that (very simplified form) :
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE vars AS
    my_filter VARCHAR2(100);
    FUNCTION set_filter(filter_val IN VARCHAR2) return number;
    END vars;
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY vars AS
FUNCTION set_filter(filter_val IN VARCHAR2) return number DETERMINISTIC IS
          my_filter := filter_val;
          return 1;
    END set_filter;
END vars; And ask the developers to rewrite the report like that:
    SELECT ..... FROM
-- this is the generic part of the report
< long list of ANSI joins here>
RIGHT JOIN some_table ON (conditions  - as above
                                                    *AND my_varchar_column = vars.my_filter*)
<some more joins for good measure>
-- end of the generic part, up to here nothing can take user parameters
    WHERE
-- this is the specific part, from here on, the conditions can take user parameters
    some_column = @some_param
    *AND vars.set_filter('some text here') = 1*
....The question is, can I trust the optimizer to evaluate my where clause (thus executing set_filter) before trying to enter the joins?
I know that this works nicely with conditions like "1=0", in this case it doesn't even bother to read the tables involved. But can I assume it will do the same with a pl/sql function? Always?
In my tests it seems to work but obviously they are not exhaustive. So I guess what I'm asking is, can anyone imagine a scenario where the above would fail?
    Thanks,
    Iulian

Even though I tell the optimizer, "look, this function is ridiculously expensive, plus it won't filter any rows" it keeps evaluating it first.
So it looks like not only can I rely on Oracle to evaluate a literal expression first, much as I try I can't make it behave otherwise.
Still, this is only empirical, I wouldn't use it in a production environment. Probably...Iulian,
I think I understand what you are trying to do here. Something like using cost to drive the optimizer to process the SQL statement "procedurely"...
But I believe SQL, by definition, is a set-based language and this means one can not rely on the way an SQL statement is executed by the oracle engine.
I believe this is good in most of the situations. However, I understand that it is possible that one may want to use his/her knowledge of the data to write
SQL so that it is more efficient. CBO, being a software, has its limitations and may not always make the right decision, depending upon complexity of rewrite.
I don't know enough about your original problem, which involves a third-party product i.e. Business Objects, but there is a way in your example to enforce

  • Is OS X 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New X code the right thing for me?

Please Help - I have been having problems on some websites and with Safari - I can't afford to buy a new or even a 'new' used Mac with Intel - I have been thinking that upgrading to Tiger will solve my problems, I have committed to buy (on Ebay) but not yet paid for OS X 10.4 and am now worried that I am buying the wrong thing.
The description of what I am buying is Apple eMac OSX 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New XCODE
Rare genuine factory Mac operating system, full installation CD set for Apple OS 10.4 Tiger. Normally Tiger OS 10.4 comes in single DVD format which most older eMacs don't have, so this OSX 10.4 is a rare item in CD format. 16 install CD's plus an XCODE Development tools version 2 on 17 discs.
    My eMac specifications are:
    Machine Model: eMac
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.8.2f1
Can anyone please help a damsel (albeit not a very young one) in distress?

No, its only 10 pm at the moment.
OK, that's good news as it is the latter type eMac, though not identical to the latest, it falls into the 'second half' of the eMac series.
The only difference I can see is that your model has a slightly slower graphics card but is the same model card. It seems only a subtle difference.
I believe there is a high probability that those disks would work.
Given they are considerably cheaper £27 or less it is probably worth risking. I'll guess 85% + chance of success.
The retail Tiger disks are just black, but they are quite rare, and overpriced.
    Here is a comparison at
    http://fastmac.com/osx.php
where they want over £50 (US79.95) so the ebay thing looks good.
You could change web browsers to Opera or Camino but Java versions end at 1.4 in Panther.
10.3 is pretty ancient in internet years, so an OS upgrade will at least keep you with a useful tool, even if not at the cutting edge.
    10.20pm see you tomorrow.

  • Is automator the right thing for me..?

    Hi,
I'm a complete newbie when it comes to automator and OSX in general and I know nothing of coding and applescript, so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I'd also like to add that I've been looking at the 'Automator help' function in OS X, but I've found it to have very poor and limited information in it.
This is what I'd like to acheive:
I run an estate agency and I've accidently deleted all the email addresses and news grps from my address book (I use entourage). I need to send out my monthly newsletter and have only a list (about 900 in total) of emails sent to me from the email address of each person subscribed to my newsletter. What I'd like to do it create some type of action that will take the "From" address from an email and add it to a email group and then go to the next email and do the same and so on...
I had originally thought I might use Automator to copy the address and paste it into some text document that I could then use to copy and paste the entire document into the address book.....not sure if that's an overkill..but it was my original idea.
From what I've managed to read from other postings it isn't simple to create an Automator Action for scratch, plus I've been looking through my list of actions and they don't appear to support Office apps at all.
Any advise on the best approach to take would be much appreciated.
I hope it isn't just to sit down and copy and paste each address myself.... I thought that was what the automator was for..!?!?!
    Regards
    Manuel

    Hi,
Apps have to be written from the start so as to be aware of any scripting capability, and those apps that MS develops (much to the success of hackers worldwide) are programmable with Visual Basic. Thats why opening Word docs and files that look like jokes/funstuff/videos can cause such havoc on a Windows computer ! Unfortunately, MS didnt write their apps to be Applescript or Automator aware, so we've got a problem.
And in fact, the solution might indeed be obtainable via Visual Basic but learning how to cook that would be far more difficult than the pain of a multi-hour long cut and paste session. In addition, MS doesnt have a very flexible schema from which to parse this data. If you look at the path to the monolithic database file MS chooses to use to source Entourage data, (its at):
    /Users/username/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Database
you'll probably see a very large single file here. Tuff nut to crack, perhaps.
Barring anyone else's brilliance shining its way to this thread, I would prepare for the cut and paste session, and when you get all those names in one place, might be a great idea to do a tab-delimited contacts export ! Then use that file (such as an Excel spreadsheet) to bring data into Entourage, or any other email program you may use over the years.
    Hope this helps

  • Designing DCs project and EJB- What is the right thing to do?

    Hi:
I have a big doubt about designing DCs project and EJB:
My presentation layer is WD and I'm going to use EJB Session and Hibernate to persist data. So I'm not complete sure how to model it at project level (I'm new on DCs projects):
1- Did I have to make a DC project with a EJB Module project, other DC for Enterprise Aplication Project and other DC for a Web Module Project ?, if it so...must be one father and the others childs?
2- Can I use only a DC-EJB Module and consume the project in my DC-WD? (I think that this is the right one but my project don't generate a deployable file....so begin wandering if the choice 1 is necessary....or something is missing... I expect a sda if not a default ear or war)
    3- Other (any idea?)
I can't find any tutorial or good practice about it.
Thanks a lot for your time on this thread.

  • Is time capsule the right thing for me?

I am looking for extra storage to go along with the new macbook air I just purchased.  Is time capsule the right product for me?  I basically want to keep movies and other videos but not use up the hard drive space on my laptop.  I want to be able to backup my computer and also access the files when necessary.

time capsule does back ups of ALL your data on a periodic basis. If you are just storing vids  and music etc, you probably don't want to look at using time capsule. time capsule is there if you have an issues with your mac, and you need to restore all your data.
i suggest just getting a normal external hard drive about 1terrabyte and don't sync it with time capsule.
