Forget the progress of Infinity, BT stifling progr...

I watched an article on the BBC's Ciick programme the other night about the upcoming boom and progress in IPTV for consumers.
The first thought went through my mind even when the 'Click' IPTV article began was how do UK subscribers get any meaningful use out of it?. The word unlimited when it comes to broadband over here is a travesty and i fail too see how it isn't simply fraudulent.
I purchased, and paid a year's fee in advance, a very expensive video service from the NFL due to my having BT's most costly package and unlimited broadband. I had asked BT many times if their BB service was unlimited when signing up and was told yes.
All was sheer heaven for the first month until one day i couldn't even load any news or sports webpages that had a video etc. preloaded in the page because i had been capped to a point where standard webpages had difficulty loading.
No warning or emails in advance whatsoever from BT. I spent days upon days checking and reinstalling and rebooting my computer trying to find a non-existent fault. Additionally, their scripted call centre came up empty despite being on for over one hour at a time. Irony is they were emailing cheaper package subscribers about the potential to be capped and when they had duly been capped.
I can do great things with my near 20MB speeds from BT, however, i've no wish whatsoever to sign up to their 'Infinity' service that they keep asking me to. I've simply no need of it if i can't purchase HD sports feeds and services due to their unlimited bandwidth being limited.
I'm very surprised that the UK's limited 'unlimited' BB service was not mentioned in their article. I remember seeing a previous feature on a video based subject and they quite rightly and importantly made mention of the fact it wouldn't be feasible/usable over here.
I don't know why they didn't do the same again. Wouldn't like to start seeing folk paying out for expensive products seen on Click and find out a month later they are in effect unuasable due to an unimited BB service being limited.

When they called I was greated with a "Mr Tucker, we are calling reference your query to us. You want to cancel your appointment, is that correct?"
"Hell no!" (didnt actually say this, but my brain did!)
It went something like this, I have abreviated though.
Him: You weant to cancel?
Me: No
Him: You want to alter your appointment?
Me: Not really, just saying if there is a cancellation I will have it.
Him: So You do want to cancel?
Me: No, I was just trying to be helpful if there was a spare slot I would take it.
Him: Ok, I can see you have a slot on the 18th
Me: Yes
Him: I can see here you already have Broadband. Is there a fault or problem?
Me: No
This goes on for at least 5mins.
Him: Let me have a word with a colleague?
Me: Ok
Him: There seems to be a problem here so I am going to try to escelate this for you sir.
Me: Ummm, ok......
Him: I will call you back on Monday?
Me: Ok....... Thanks......
Low and behold, this morning I get a text at 9:15 saying that my appointment is now the 9th at 8:00-13:00! 
I guess I got what I was after, in a round abbout way. So, awsome, Infinity tomorrow! Just so happens I'm working in the morning that day but really didn't want to start messing around, it could have gone any better for me and far worse if it had gone the other way.

    I'm trying to fix the iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) of my friend. He said it doesn't boot anymore and just gets stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel below. So my first step was to go into the Startup Manager by pressing the Option key after the chime. There I was presented with the Macintosh HD and the Recovery HD. After selecting the Recovery HD to access the Disk Utilities I got stuck on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel again. So I guess the data on the drive is corrupted and might have to be replaced. But before I do that, I wanted to give the Internet Recovery a try. I connected the iMac to the internet using an ethernet cable and pressed Command + Option + R after the chime and the spinning globe appeared with the info: "starting recovery process from network. This may take a while". After a short time the sentences are replaced by a progress bar and a timer that is counting up. The progress bar then moved for a tiny little bit and then nothing happens anymore but the timer keeps counting up. I waited for quiet some time before I gave up. I did not get any errors so I can't provide any other useful information. Can anyone give my some advice? I read in other posts that the ISPs of specific countries block ports which are needed for the internet recovery. I'm in Thailand right now. Does anyone know if that might cause the problem?

  • HT1212 My ipad mini has been crashing a lot recently so I started a system reset. However, it's now stuck with the progress bar less than a quarter gone: this has been the case for several days now. I have tried resetting from itunes but it needs the pass

I have also tried resetting through itunes which works right up to the point where itunes states that it needs the passcode to be inputted into the ipad to connect to it. At which point it then sticks at the same progress bar point. HELP!! please, this ipad is really important to my work.

    Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
    The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
    Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.

    How to reset your Apple ID security questions
    Go to appleid.apple.com and click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
    Log in with your Apple ID and password. If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email.
    Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.  This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions. 
    If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then:
    click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later. 
    Next, go to getsupport.apple.com. If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services'.
    Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.  Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
    Select the contact option that suits your needs best.

    When you open the project, it should ask you where the first file is located. After you tell it where it is, it should be able to find the rest of them if they are located near the first one.  Then save the file.  If you move the files again, you will have to relink them again.

    Place the iPOd in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

    Unfortunately this means that there is a problem in the boot sector of your hard drive. It might be indicative of a fundamental corruption in the coding that allows your computer to boot your operating system from your hard drive. I had this problem twice and it resulted in me having to get a new hard drive and restore my data.
    In other words, your computer can't talk to your operating system so you can't access your data.
    Here is my advice: DON'T CALL APPLE TECH SUPPORT though they are kind and usually helpful it will take you an hour just to explain the situation and they will only tell you to do what I'm gonna say here.
    First: Shut down your computer completely
    Two: boot up while holding down the following keys: command, option, p, and r. The computer will reboot 3 times. This solution will likely fail so if you're frustrated skip to the next step.
    Three: Boot up while holding down the option key. Select recovery drive. Select your default language. Select disk utility, click on Macintosh HD, and select "verify and repair volume." Likely the verification will produce some line like "unused node not erased." Or something like that. If anything using the words "node structure" comes up, you need a new hard drive.
    If after verification and repairs you still can't boot I sincerely hope you have apple care because you will need a new hard drive. Set up an appointment to come in to the apple store, they will tell you to go and get data recovery, just ask them to give you the old hard drive. Unless you have an up to date backup in which case you can just restore from that. If you're lucky the only issue is with the boot sector which means that if you ask them to give you the old hard drive, you can buy an enclosure and you have effectively been given a free external hard drive. It still works to store data just not to load an operating system.
    If you have a back up drive bring it to the apple store and they'll do the whole thing right there, it should take around an hour and a half but may take longer.
    Hope this helps, it's annoying but it's your safest bet.

    If you can't remember your birthday then log into the account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, select the Password And Security section and answer the two security questions that show - you should then get a screen where you can see and/or change when you were born

  • How to transfer the progress of just one game from one iPad to another iPad

    Hi everyone!  When I purchased an iPad Air, I gave my old iPad 3 to a family member who kept one of my games and its progress, but changed every other App to suit his requirements.  My iPad Air has all MY Apps, which are different to the ones on the iPad 3.  Both iPads use my Apple account.
    I want to somehow transfer the progress of just the one game from the iPad 3 to the iPad Air and I don't want to back up my iPad Air to be the same as his iPad 3, which I know will transfer the progress of the game, but it will also mean I will  get a load of Apps I don't want and more importantly, lose all my Apps and the progress in all my games.
    i.e. can I transfer one game and its progress from one iPad to another without altering/deleting/removing existing Apps on either iPad. 
    Phew ... hope the above makes some sort of sense to someone!!!

    If you can't remember your apple id or password then sadly that phone has been bricked, without that infomation te activation lock cannot be removed by apple or anyone else.

    Apps and Music are not from iCloud. Are from iTunes and App Store.
    You can change this from: Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Sign out and sign in with new ID, but you will have to pay again to download apps that you already have in your old account. Or leave it as it is to share purchases with your son.

    Time ago, i started playing clash of clans in my iphone and the progress was saved. Now i started it from the begining from my ipad but i didn't sincronized it in game center so now that i'm better on the ipad it always askes me if i want to restore it to my progress of game center and i don't want to.
