  • How do you re-set the master password without knowing what it is?

I set up a master password, and can't remember it.  I haven't activated the filevault, so from what I read, that is good.  But I still don't know how to re-set the master password if I don't have the old one to change it.  Please help.  I have too many albums in iTunes, documents, and calander events that have not been backed up, so I don't want to reinstall the software, if that is an option.  At least not until I can pick up an external backup.

I forget where I read this, but to eliminate an existing filevault "master password", delete the files 'FileVaultMaster.cer' and 'FileVaultMaster.keychain' in your computer's main '/Library/Keychains/' folder (not through "Keychain Access.app"). You should then be able to set a new "master password" in the "Security" preference pane if you ever decide to use "filevault" again. Note that if you do this while an account is still encrypted (ie. with filevault enabled), that account will not be accessible with the new "master password".

  • How do I set the firmware password on 10.7

    Hi
How do I set the firmware password in Mac OS 10.7.2 (MacBook Pro) ?
The Apple instructions only seem to go up to 10.5.x
    Thanks

Firmware password is not much use as any thief can reset it by pulling out the memory chips and putting them back in again.
The only real way to secure your data 99% is to use FileVault 2.

    Hi,

running on an HPUX 11 Unix box in that everytime I start Weblogic it sets the
Oracle password to be the value of the Orarcle sid. I have configured Weblogic
to have a Connection Pool to the database.
    Anyone have any clues?

can you post your connection pool settings?

  • Setting the Administrator password on a MDT Server Task Sequence

I've created a SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 MDT 2013 task sequence using the Server Task Sequence template to deploy Windows Server 2012 R2. I'm not doing a capture but just using the .wim file from the source DVD. The problem I'm having is setting the local admin
password in Apply Windows Settings. It's not taking the password that I've assigned it. I'm not sure how many others have created a Server Task Sequence or not but I'd be interested to know how to get around this problem.

Sorry, in Apply Windows Settings I've selected "Enable the account and specify the local administrator password" and entered the local password there. When the system is imaged and I try to log in locally it gives the the error "The user name
or password is incorrect. Try again." error.
I have checked that the local administrator account is enabled so I know it's not that and I've tried multiple times. I even took one of our client task sequences that I know works, made a copy of it, and added the Server 2012 R2 install to it and get the
    same result.

  • How do you set the router password on wrt54gs?

    I have a wrt54gs wireless router.
I pressed RESET for 30 seconds.
I did not do any power cycle.
    I typed 192.168.1.1
I left username empty and entered ADMIN as password.
    I enabled MAC addres clone.
I noticed I got Internet connection.
Then I tried to prevent my kind neighbors from
    accidentally using my router.
    So I changed router password.
    I clicked on SAVE SETTINGS.
At this point I was asked to enter username and password
    to AUTHENTICATE CHANGE.
    What is username?
    What is password?
This did not work with "username empty and ADMIN as password".

"Of course, setting a router password won't keep your neighbors from using your internet."
So what is the correct way of keeping your neighbors from using my router?
    Another thing I notice.
Because of a router password I put in (even though I got error messages
from doing that), then I closed out the whole thing.
    Subsequently I typed 192.168.1.1,
my router did not acccept 'admin' as password
    and
it only accepted the router password I put in.

  • Setting the username & password for the plain http adapter.

    Hi,
When i am passing in an HTTP request into the integration engine's plain_http adapter url, i am required to give a username and a password for authentication.
Is it possible to set this username and password globally some where, to avoid this to be given again for each message?
The requirement is like, all http messages from our partners will be routed through a proxy in the DMZ which would have an authentication and we donot want the XI user credentials to be given again.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Renjith.

If you want to just test http adapter use the code by stefan grube in the following thread.

  • How to set the password with start-domain instruction in AS 8

    Hello,
I am trying to add an instruction in /etc/init.d to start a domain automatically every time the server reboots but I have not found a way to set the master password of this domain. I know there is a --passwordfile option but it only has the choice of setting the adminpassword AS_ADMIN_PASSWORD.
    asadmin start-domain --passwordfile /var/SUNWapp/password.txt application
    cat /var/SUNWapp/password.txt
AS_ADMIN_PASSWORD=xxx // It does not work to start the domain. I need to set the master password
Is there any way to start the domain automatically??? how can I set the password without prompt?
    Thank you,
    Regards

You can also have AS_ADMIN_MASTERPASSWORD in the password file.
"asadmin start-domain" will not prompt for the masterpassword.

  • Upgrade to Tiger, password mess, larger issues?

    iMac 1.25 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.1)
I've just upgraded from 10.3.x to 10.4 with the upgrade CD. Upon rebooting, I found that the admin password no longer works. I am certain that I'm typing correctly (no CAPS LOCK or anything like that), esp. since the hint still matches. User accounts work just fine and keychain also just fine (even though I'm certain that the passwords were the same).
No big deal, I'll just reset the admin password. Dug up the original Install Disk as well as a 10.2 upgrade. Can't start up from CD (pressing C on start-up). This has me worried that something more serious is going on.
Open Firmware Password is not enabled.
Disk Utility First Aid checked out fine.
    Help!
    iMac 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I'm not sure what happened here but when you say upgrade CD, do you mean the Tiger retail install package which ships on DVD media only and if you want CD media, you must use Apple's Media Exchange Program at an additional expense exchanging the DVD media for CD media?
Just need to be sure you didn't use a Tiger install or upgrade package that shipped with a new Mac purchase.
If your admin password isn't or wasn't working and you have automatic login disabled, how did you access your user login account and the Keychain or did you login with another user account? The login password for a user account is the same password used for the user's Keychain.
When re-setting the admin password, why dig up the original install disc as well as the 10.2 upgrade? This can and should be done with the Tiger install disc after Tiger has been installed.

  • How do i change the master password without knowing the previous password

I need to reset the master password on my macbook, but I don't know the previous password.

    There is no 'default'
The admin password is set individually for each account. If you are logged into your account and your account is an administrator account then you have set the admin password, if you did not set it for yourself who did? is there an IT dept in this company?
If you are still signed into someone else account and Find My Mac is active you will need them to sign the Mac out of their account so that you can sign into yours.
For a company issued machine this is a very poor handover.
    Good luck.

  • My daughter is using old round airport at college. I set it up without protection. I have an old iBook and I understand I can use that to set the passsword. But I can't seem to figure out where I can set the it?

My daughter is using old round airport at college. I set it up originally without password protection because my macbook was too new to recognize the old style airport. I have an old iBook and I understand I can use that to set the passsword. But I can't seem to figure out even using the  Airport admin how to establish a password.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

If it even has that built-in, you would configure it using Airport Utility. It would likely be in the Wireless configuration for first turning on security and then setting the required password. For Macs you should use WPA Personal if the option is present.

  • Remove the BIOS password for laptop HP Compaq 6520s

    Hello everybody!
Notebook is my HP Compaq 6520s. I set the BIOS password, but now I have forgotten it. How can I remove the password now?
    Thanks everyone!

I do not know what decade the last replier is from but is most apparent that they can not read the written word... the first person said, that they had a laptop not a desktop...  Most laptops that are under eight years old do not have pins to reset the bios...    Everything that the replier stated might work on a desktop computer to reset the password.. but since laptops are to easy to steal the companies have made it more difficult to enter the bios and change things when they are password... There are three ways to remove the forgotten password    1 remember it    2 call Hp to get the backdoor password  3  replace the motherboard.. that is it... most of the bios clearing programs are made for dos and will not work with windows above windows 98... xp vista and 7 are NT and will not allow access to the bios..........
