Forgive my ignorance but.......

I have an HD ready tv connected with an HDMI cable to a black bt vision box which is connected to an hd aerial , everything is working fine but of course I cant watch bt vision hd programs unless I pay dearly for them. I thought there were a few freeview channels available and according to bt freeview hd finder there is indeed a few available in my area, however my tv guide operated through my vision box shows none, is this a deliberate thing by bt, and how do I acess these other free hd channels anyone know?

Nah a digital aerial is just that, a digital aerial, while analogue aerials will be useless after the digital switchover. Which is quite soon.

the only need for a digital aerial (which is just the same as an ordinary aerial but higher gain with more directors) is if you are in a low signal strength area or need a wide band antenna
how do you think people are receiving digital now with a freeview digi box most using a standard uhf yagi antenna
also after the switchover there may be an increase in the power output of digital so less need for a digital antenna

How did the photos that you want to copy off get on the iPad ? To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a Mac you should be able to use iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I delete a track from GarageBand?

I'm using an ipad 2. I've tried and succeeded but I think I did so by accident. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to delete a track from GB on the iPad. I've tried tapping and such, and nothing pops up like before.

I don't want to complicate things - BUT . . .
Did you really mean delete a Clip from your Hard Drive - or did you mean delete the Clip from your FCP browser window (as Shane described)?
When you capture footage to the Hard Drive, it's saved as a Media File in your Capture Scratch folder . . .
Deleting the clip from the FCP browser (as Shane described) will leave the original Media File (still taking up space) in your Capture Scratch folder on your HD.
Final Cut Pro > System Settings will tell you which your Capture Scratch folder is.
If you really want to delete the Media File from the Hard Drive, this is where to go to use Finder to move it to the trash. If you do this, then empty the trash, the file will be lost.

Forgive my ignorance...

Please forgive my ignorance here, but I'm a little bit confused about Apple's offerings when it comes to its server software.
Having set up one of HP's home-based servers (http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/mediasmart-server/alt.html) for a friend of the family recently, I was potentially interested in Apple's server capabilities for our home (a couple of iMacs and one PC). But I don't see any actual servers listed under the Apple Store.
Am I missing something...?

You really need to figure out what you want to do, and particularly where your current problem areas and pain points are, and (equally important) where you want to end up longer-term.
If you want ("just") network disk services, then a NAS widget can easily be the best solution.
And if you're going NAS, then multiple spindles configured as RAID-1 or RAID-10, and particularly having more spindles can provide some reliability against spindle failures. I'd not look to add single-spindle devices, typically; disks are cheap and the loss of a disk in a single-spindle device can ruin your whole day.
I'm not a big fan of RAID-5 given the lower spindle costs and the increasing capacity of modern disks and given the massive overhead of a RAID-5 rebuild (you'll be around 20% of your normal I/O bandwidth during a RAID-5 rebuild), and the (statistically surprisingly high) risk of a double failure during a RAID rebuild. RAID-1 and RAID-10 and such have better characteristics; RAID-5 is more of a hold-over from when disks were small and really expensive.
RAID storage is not proof against application failures, system volume corruptions, nor operator error; it's not an archival strategy.
You'll also want to look at where you're going as you're scaling up. You're getting around the start of the sweet spot for having a server; for tasks such as distributed authentication and single-sign-on, DNS, mail, wikis, shared storage, and other activities where coordination can be key; for when you have enough "stuff" going on across your client boxes where having more centralized control can provide you with better ease of use and better scalability.
Initially configuring and then running a server is rather more work than running a single box (and definitely more than running a NAS box), but (and once you get "there") using servers tends to scale better than maintaining and managing isolated clients.
If you're going to be using NAS, getting to Gigabit Ethernet can be useful; you're likely going to need some bandwidth, and Gigabit can give you that.

I can't figure out the Keynote title option. I'm a newbie so forgive my ignorance. I want to put an image in the swing arm, but I can't figure it out.

I even tried opening in Motion and inserting it there, but when I bring it back to fc it's not there. I also want to change the background to an image or at least solid white. When I put an image in the Dropzone it doesn't show up. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

To change the title background to use a clip in the drop zone, do just as Jim said.
Also, place the clip that want to appear in the "swing arm" right below the title in the timeline.

Itunes failed to open so ininstalled it then installed itunes but it asked me to verify that I had sufficient privileges to start system services what do I have to do? Tried clicking on options "retry" and "ignore" but no use.

I could not access itunes so i uninstalled it. Apple website suggested that i also delete certain Program files. I tried to delete Bonjour but was told that I was not able to do that. So I tried to install itunes but got the message that Service "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I was given 3 options to click, Abort, Retry, Ignore. None of these options go ne further. Wondering what to do next. Since I uninstalled itunes I get message after I boot up the PC "MCVCRS is missing - try einstalling the programme" could this be part of my problem?

'f4v' export bit rate ignored, but 'flv' OK - general bug?

I have been testing the f4v and flv export options in P.Pro CS5.
If I use a FLV preset, note down the video bit-rate and the audio bit rate, then the exported file comes out the expected file size.
If I use the equivalent F4V preset, the file comes out 2 to 3 times larger than it should.
Test source is 720*576 16:9 avi, 25 fps, length 16 seconds.
Web preset of 900kbps selected:
Output f4v 768*432 using 900 kbs (850 video +48 audio) produces 3694kb file = 1.80 megabits per sec.
Output flv 768*432 using 900 kbs (804 video +96 audio) produces 1943kb file = 0.95 megabits per sec.
So I have 2 observations:
1) f4v seems to be inefficient compared to flv - but to keep things simple, I won't compare apples with pears.
2) For a given data rate (900kbps in this case), that should be the output, regardless of image size, frame rate, index frames etc etc.
I have done a number of other tests on P.Pro for f4v and flv presets which shows f4v to be 2* the file size it should be.
The preset 'name' reciting 900 kbps ties in exactly with the video/audio components in custom panels, so it's not a case of pre-sets having wrong names.
I have aAdditionally I have done similar tests in encore CS5's new export feature, where f4v is up to 3.5 * bigger than it should be for stated data-rate.
(Yes, I have ignored the index and swf files etc produced by encore from this calculation).
I am expecting this to be a general bug, so would be interested to know if others encounter same problem, before requesting adobe to fix the software.
Format f4v did not exist on CS2 and seems to be OK on CS4, so this is purely a CS5 question.

Good thinking on version number, I just did a small update, following CS5 instalation/update 1 month ago.
I was already on same version numbers and the 20mb 'extension' update hasn't changed anything.
I usually export direct ftom PP, haven't got in to the habit of using AME yet, though with new fast pc and small test clips I haven't really needed it, but tried via AME to see if had different results but resulting file is 3706KB (1943 KB via flv).
The 'expected file size says 1MB (though 2MB would be nearest integer for expected results).
Importing f4v output back into PP, properties give me:

I gave it a try with no audio and output is 3597KB, so it's not something wierd in audio codec.
Your NTSC content being around 25% bigger no doubt means more compression to maintain preset data rate, which is to be expected.
I don't have any 30 fps content, so did tests using 30fps output, from same preset and same 25fps source.
I don't have any NTSC frame rate media, but I used a 25fps source/sequence and selected output as 30fps which still resulted in an oversize file, but less drastic at 2.6MB (flv 2273KB for 25fps to 30 fps output, other things equal).

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components may allow you to install Apple Application Support.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

Sorry for my ignorance but i'm having problems printing

I am very new to indesign and to print graphics. I am not new to web graphics.
I am having problems printing a document that I have created in InDesign CS5. Now I have learnt that I need to calibrate stuff with ICC profiles but I am not sure what I am doing.
Do i need to create aan ICC profile for my monitor and printer?
How do I get these to worl with InDesign?
I suppose I need to tell you what is going on. When I print my document which is mostly different shades of grey, most of the different grey shades are nearly black and I can only just see the differentces in shades between the grays. Now on my monitor they are distinctly different and can easily be seen.
So what steps do I nee dto get these colours right?

For good reproduction you need an accurate monitor profile (this is done with a colorimeter or spectrophotometer --that's overkill for just the monitor, but it can do the printer, too -- and profiling software) and an output profile for the printer and paper combination. The industry standard EyeOne colorimeter package is around $200, the spectrophotometer will cost quite a bit more.
There are services that will profile your printer for you, too, but learing to do it yourself will cost less over the long haul if you are really serious about the output quality. In theory you need to recalibrate and profile printers on a regular basis, especially when you change ink or toner. Out here in the real world, though, I suspect most of us who are not producing commercial color output just do it once and live with it until the results are no longer acceptable and the profiles need to be updated. I proof for internal use on my color laser, for example, and it hasn't been re-profiled for about three years. It no longer matches waht I see on the monitor exactly, but it's still fairly close and the prints are for my own use. I always get a proof from the printer when it's time to go to press.
Of course not all monitors and not all printers are created equal. Some monitors are incapable of showing fine gradtions in sahding in the dark or very light grays, and many, if not most, printers can't capture all of the shades you can see on screen.
For any given printer resolution, such as a 600 dpi printer, the higher the linescreen value used to print, the lower the number of shades that can actually be produced. Halftone spots (which is what are used to fool you into seeing gray using only black ink) are made up of groups of printer dots, and you can't print half a printer dot, so, for example, 600 dpi printer outputting at 100 lines per inch linescreen, uses about 36 printer dots to make each halftone spot (it might be a little different because the shape of the halftone spot is seldom a square). The best you can get from 36 printer dots is 37 levels (no dots to all dots), so the best you can hope for is about 3% steps.
Add in dot gain, the spread of ink or toner as it's absorbed into the paper and which is more prominent at darker shades, and your shadows tend to plug up, and the very light shades may not show at all. Less than 5% dot, for example is extremely hard to print on most lasers.
A really good book on the subject is Real World Scanning and Halftones, and a great book on color management in general is Real World Color Management.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do I delete a clip?

I've two queries for anyone out there willing to throw me a bone.
1. how do i delete a single clip from my hard drive?! i'm new to final cut and am struggling. its not really spelled out in my phone book sized manual.
2. if i have some footage shot in 16:9 and some in 4:3 is there a way to chop the sides off the 16:9 or, assuming i'm editing for a 4:3 screen should i just let the tv do it for me?

Feeling Braindead and ignorant but...

I want to do the simplest thing and of course I cannot seem to figure it out it is one of those days and with a deadline.
In a shell script ( yes I know already... ) I fetch some files via ftp, use sqlldr to stuff them into temp tables and then I simply want to call the stored procedure ( which works just fine ) and have it's out parameter be passed to sqlplus's exit status so I can then sned off an e-mal telling someone to check and see what the heck went wrong.
So the SP is define as sp_process_raw([string in param],[number out param]). Simple enough, the out param returns zero (0) or non-zero ( in this case it could be anything from 1 to 10 ).
so is it a label, is it a bind var ?!!? Basically I want to do this:

save that in a file and then call it from the script as:

That didn't work, but it did point me in the right direction as this works:

It was the begin end block that was screwing things up. Goooo figure! So my .sql file contains only those lines!
The return value must be a an unsigned byte since if you return a -1 it returns 255 and a -2 returns 254 etc. etc.

Pardon my ignorance, but why repair permissions?

I have noticed in many different threads a reference to repairing permissions before and after software updates. Why is it important to do this, what are the consequences if one does not, and how does one do it?
I have not yet jumped to Tiger [soon though on PB], and if the fan issues are resolved, I'll be ponying up for the latest iMac for home.

I suggest you be very careful if you fiddle with pemissions in the "Get Info" box for two reasons:
1) It is possible to set group permissions such that access is denied or granted incorrectly, resulting in problems with security or operation. Disk Utility's permissions repair can only correct permissions for files with receipts, so errors for your own folders & some other items can't be undone using it.
2) The Tiger Finder doesn't properly update or respect permissions until it is relaunched, so you will very likely be confused by pemissions changes that don't "take" while fiddling around ... at least I was!

MS VX1000 webcam works but is ignored, but mic wor...

OK peeps, my XP desktop has a MS VX1000 webcam connected to it via USB. The camera is connected and working. Skype is set to use the webcams mike as the default and it is regisyetered and shows up in the settings, and registers sounds etc, yet when I try to Vid call or update my profile pic the camera isnt detected.
So far ive restarted skype 5 times, and plugged the camera into 4 different usb ports on both my hub and the PC directly. Each time nothing changes the mic works but the camera isnt recognised. All drivers are installed, have been uninstalled and reinstalled. No errors showing in device mgr. Think this prob has only recently appeared, oddly skype updated this morning on boot up.
next step is t uninstall skype.
I suppose we should be gratefuls MS's kiss of death has taken as long as it has to appear.....
any ideas?

Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the older 6.1.0.129 version using this msi-installer:

After installing this version, make sure to disable the Automatic updates:
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates

Pardon my ignorance, but, any idea on how do i stroke a path?

I have drawn a path and I see that in the edit tab there's a Stroke option, however the option is not active so I am not sure how should I go about this.
I want to stroke the path with a scattered brush. thank you.

Also just after you make your path, right click inside the path area
and choose Stroke Path.
Before you stroke the path make sure you have set all the brush options
you want.
