You indeed need to make an appointment with Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3554
They will tell you what to bring (proof of ownership, I guess).

  • Forgot firmware password on mac

Hello i have never put a firmware password on my mac. But when it did a soft ware update it the mac froze, Then it restarted and now it is asking me for a firmware password. Can some one help me

In making the Firmware Password secure, Apple does not provide a means for the user to reset or circumvent the barrier. If it were not so, then Firmware Password protection would be no protection at all.
If indeed you are presented with a screen, such as Linc is showing, then your foremost option is to take the unit into an Apple Store Genius Bar to have them perform the necessary procedure to alleviate the situation.

  • Forgot firmware password/wrong  boot  disk selected

Hi all, i've really screwed up, and need your help urgently. If I could just get the machine Booting fro the internal HD I'd be SO gratefull! Here goes ...
Some weeks ago, i set the firmware password on m y MacBook Pro. I set it to something complicated but memorable ... But now, of course, I can't remember it!
I've been googleing the subject, but there seems to be nothing about resetting the MB Pros Extensible Firmware.
The problem is even bigger, because I wanted to repair permissions yesterday and thus booted from the indtall dvd. I had forgotten about the EF passeord, so I set the startup disk to be the DVD drive, and now I cant get the machine to boot from its harddrive, so I have no access to my data.
I have tried to remove the 1gig ram block, that should reset the password in the old Open Firmware macs but no dice!
Im desperate because later today Im being interviewed about my mac and tech in general, and i really need my notes and stuff on the mac, plus it would be so embarrassing that iv'e set a password i cant remember - might as well cancel the interview
Is there anyway to make the MBPro boot from the harddrive again, or is there a reset button on the motherboard?
PLEASE tell me there is something I can do? I'm desperate

In comparing the 2 kinds of computers...PowerPC v. Intel, there is a difference between what the firmware lock blocks:
When turned on using one of the models listed above [Non Intel], Open Firmware Password Protection:
Blocks the ability to use the "C" key to start up from an optical disc.
Blocks the ability to use the "N" key to start up from a NetBoot server.
Blocks the ability to use the "T" key to start up in Target Disk Mode (on computers that offer this feature).
Blocks the ability to start up in Verbose mode by pressing the Command-V key combination during startup.
Block the ability to start up a system in Single-user mode by pressing the Command-S key combination during startup.
Blocks a reset of Parameter RAM (PRAM) by pressing the Command-Option-P-R key combination during startup.
Requires the password to use the Startup Manager, accessed by pressing the Option key during startup (see below).
Requires the password to enter commands after starting up in Open Firmware, which is done by pressing the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
When turned on using an Intel-based Macintosh, Open Firmware Password Protection:
Blocks the ability to use the "C" key to start up from an optical disc.
Blocks the ability to use the "N" key to start up from a NetBoot server.
Blocks the ability to use the "T" key to start up in Target Disk Mode (on computers that offer this feature).
Blocks the ability to use the "D" key to start up from the Diagnostic volume of the Install DVD.
Blocks a reset of Parameter RAM (PRAM) by pressing the Command-Option-P-R key combination during startup.
Requires the password to use the Startup Manager, accessed by pressing the Option key during startup (see below).
Interestingly, command - s key combination (single user) is not stated as blocked...Maybe someone who knows how to do things at that level can help.

  • My sister forgot her password to her ipod that she gave me and I have no idea on how to reset it, I downloaded itunes on my computer and tried to sync and restore but it said I had to sync it to the original computer but I dont have it

So yea my sister gave me her ipod touch and forgot her password, so I looked up how to restore it and it would not let me because it said I needed to sync the ipod up to the computer it had originally been synced to. Im nowhere near that computer and I just need to know is there another way I can restore to factory settings?

Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then restore via iTunes.:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
Try on another computer too and try another cable.

  • I forgot my password\i get my phone back and i forgot my password so i read that you have to restore your iphone so when i tried restoring it it said the i phone cannot be restored at this time and i need help plz.

I forgot my password\i get my phone back and i forgot my password so i read that you have to restore your iphone so when i tried restoring it it said the i phone cannot be restored at this time something about cant be contacted with the server and i youtubed how to fix that and it did but when i tried it again it said error (3194) so i went back and it said it cant be restored at this time please im paying 100$ per month and i cant use my i phone 4 hep....

Error 3194 most often means that your Computer Hosts file is blocking Apple from signing your firmware. Search on your computer for the word 'Hosts'. Open the Hosts with a word processor. If gs.apple.com is present your Hosts file is blocking Apple, and therefore giving Error 3194. A stock Hosts file does not have gs.apple.com in it. If want Apple to Restore your Firmware you will need to remove the lines with gs.apple.com in them.

  • Update to Mavericks, Firmware password lost

    Hello,
about a year ago I set up a firmware password for my MacBook 5.1 (Aluminium Unibody MacBook, no Pro). I forgot to store the password in 1Password, so now I'm stuck with a MacBook which has a firmware password set I can't reset.
Will the Mavericks installer ask for the firmware password? Or will it just install Mavericks like it installed every other 10.8.x update in the past months?
    Bye,
    Oliver

    Hello,
thanks. But a firmware password is something different than an account password: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4347468 .
I know that there might be a chance that Apple might disable the firmware password when I go to an Apple Store, but I'm interested in getting to know if installing the update to Mavericks requires the firmware password or not. "Dot updates" did not require the firmware password, but I don't want to create a bricked machine in case Mavericks does.
    Bye,
    Oliver

Locked Out, Forgot Lock or Restrictions Passcode, Need to Restore Your Device: Alternative Solutions
        1.  Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
        2.  Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
        3.  About Restrictions (parental controls) on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
If all else fails: Place your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Cant bypass Firmware password , Folder with Question mark!

    I have a  MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
I had the folder with question mark show up. I took out my hard drive and put it in an enclosure and it is working fine. Could it be the hard drive flex cable that is damaged and that is why the system can't find the hard drive?
Anyway the big problem i'm having is that  i can't remember the firmware password and i tried every combination (command+S, command+R) . memory pull out and nothing worked. I'm stuck please let me know what i can do to get this fixed

    Hi caliabe,
Unfortunately, the only way to remove the password would be to visit an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider, as I understand you can't even access the Mac in recovery mode without the Firmware Password. If you lost or forgot your firmware password - Apple Support
    Good luck.

  • Firmware password stuck !

Ok so a previous housemate gave me his MacBook Pro after he tore the screen from the base and said I could have it. Great I thought and I took it to apple. The genius sighed then laughed " you won't fix that mate" he said. Well I went on eBay and bought a complete retina screen and top lid and with patience I attached the two and then purchased a new power lead from the store to see if it powered up. Success ! It did indeed.it powered up and went to the login screen. Well I forgot that he might have been signed in . I have no idea what his password is obviously and or his recovery key etc. as I cannot get past these screens I don't know what to do next. Well this gas been a year long journey so the software is something like mountain lion but I can't be sure The MacBook isn't any older than 2012.

    TheonlyJayse,
see this Apple page for what to do about a firmware password.

I forgot my passward to get into my iMac, tried to restart from my CD holding down the Command C but it is not working, is there anyother way I can sign into my computer? Help please

Is this a Filevault protected account?
Do you have Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.
