Forgot the password on the iPod and is deactivated. How do I activated and reset the password?

I have an iPod touch 5. I forgot the password. The iPod is deactivated and is telling me to connect to iTunes. I tried, but iTunes prompts a message that the iPod is blocked with a code. How do I reset the password or activate the iPod?

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

That message means you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1 and does not support Open GL ES.

Old iPod and new computer won't sync.

I have recently purchased a new Mac computer (OSX 10.7.4) and it won't recognise my old (6years) iPod. I keep getting a message that says my computer can't read my iPod and vice versa. Surely I don't have to buy a new iPod
Is there any way round this problem?

What is the exact error iTunes is giving you? What happens if you do a restore of the device? This will wipe all data from the iPod and reset it to factory settings as well as load a fresh copy of the iPod's firmware onto the device. This should help rule out any sort of software issues/glitches with the iPod.
