Forgotten iCloud lock Pin code on MacBook Pro !

Hi, everybody !
So let's start by the beginning, I got my first MacBook Pro there is 7months ! And during the Holidays I got a new iPod touch 4th Gen. I have ever wanted to try iCloud ! So, I tried to lock my Mac with the iPod touch and it didn't lock ! And 2months passed since. One day I looked arround my iCloud settings on my Mac and I saw that the "Localize my Mac" option was disabled ! So i enabled it and automatically the MacBook shutted down and locked itself !
After that I understood that the request I sent from my iPod was online and was waiting until the "Localize my Mac" fonction get activated on the Mac ! But i don't remember the password I used !
I have all things that can prove that I am its owner ! Even the Mail i got when it was locked ! So I live in Africa, in Sénégal ! I brought to the Apple Prenium reseller, and they told me they can do nothing for me ! They told me that the only solution for me, was pull out, the HDD and plug into another Mac then reinstall it ! But I refused because I have seen on the web that the 2011 MacBook Pro have been equiped with a chip on the motherboard that contain the password.
So I told myself that even if they reinstall my HDD, it will still ask for a Password cause this one is located on the chip but not on the hard drive !
So please tell me what to do !  I am LOST ! Just want to cry cause I learn with my Mac.
Please answer me:If they reinstall my Mac, will it work ? even with the chip on the motherboard ! Any Help would be REALLY REALLY appreciated ! I can't take a plane for the USA only for this !

"Only Apple retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers can unlock computers protected by a firmware password, such as passwords set with Find My Mac.
If you cannot remember the firmware password for your computer, schedule a service appointment with either an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make areservation at the Genius Bar (only available in some countries)."

What exactly do you mean by the pin code combination of the MacBook Pro?  Are you looking for the model number for an MBP?  That will change for specific year/updates to the hardware.  Look at http://www.everymac.com for specific MBP year/models and see if what you want is in the available information.

Question is did you lock your Mac from Find my iPhone using iCloud or is the Macbook really yours?
If you have in fact locked your Mac using Find my iPhone on iCloud then you will need to enter the PIN you have set when you locked the Mac.
*If you have not iniate the remote Lock then someone else has used your Apple ID and Password to lock your mac.

Here's my guide: How to: Unlock System Lock PIN Code

  • Enter your system lock pin code to unlock this mac

I just traded my Macbook Pro for a 27" Core i5 iMac. I wiped the iMac when I traded and I brought it home to do a full reinstall. I booted holding the Option key down and noticed this iMac had a recovery partition I opted to use the recovery partition to reinstall. To my surprise it was Lion. And the cd was snow leapord.  I was cool with that and signed in and used the computer all day. Then sometime while I was sleeping a obnixious alarm went off on the iMac and there was a box to enter your system lock pin code to unlock this mac.
Priding myself on doing all repairs on my own since my primary job is reinstalled and virus removal. Long story short I could not access anything no matter what I tried. I ended up calling apple care and asking what needed to be done they explained I needed to bring it to a apple authorized store and they would have to unlock the firmware.
Do you guys know what they are talking about or is there anything I can do before driving 100 miles to my nearest apple store. I find this rediculous.

I did indeed did wipe the system clean at the owners house, I went home with what I thought was totally clean hard drive, there was a recovery partition I did not see until I got home. This recovery partition was indeed tied to the original owner which I did not know at the time. I assumed it was like any old windows recovery and it was clean and made reinstalls a dream. Well long story short I had the snow leapord cd in the drive and ready to go until I seen this recovery partition and I opted to use  the **** recovery and I reinstalled registered and signed into everything and used the computer all day 12 hours probably. By the way the recovery partition that was tied to this guy was lion.
So then I left the computer on and went to sleep. Late last night an alarm went off and that is when I saw the enter the pin to unlock this mac. I have tried holding the C when I boot up, I have tried holding the Option key when booting up. I have tried resetting the pram. Nothing can be done. I can get to another lock screen by phsically unplugging the power cord then booting up holding the option key. That will bring me to a screen with nothing but a lock and a line that I can type some kind of admin password. Nothing I have with work. I tried, root, admin, administrator, my password I used when I set lion up. Nothing!!!!!.
At this point this machine is more or less 100% useless, the only option I can see is to bring it to a authorized apple retailer and have them fix it. I did bring it to a local apple store. And they said they could probably fix it, but I would have to pay them between 50-100 dollars. The repair guy said something about getting the info from the ram. I just laughed and left.
Anyway this is like a BIOS lock, you cannot get to terminal, cd, to any boot options, you cannot reset anything at all. It's a full lock.

If I don't have icloud, only mobileme on my macbook pro, how do i get icloud on my computer?

By upgrading to OS X Lion 10.7.2 or higher (required for iCloud).  First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

That sounds like it's requestion the Find My Mac passcode.  If you don't know it, you'll have to take it to a nearby Apple store with proof of purchase/ownership as only they can unlock it for you.

If you are not the ownership of this Apple device, you should drop off this device at any Apple store or any police station. Do Not trying to unlock this device by retrive a system lock pin code.

Hi. I'm not trying to rush things, you may have a different problem, but your issue looks quite familiar to me. I recently had a problem with the discrete graphics card (the Radeon GPU) due to overheating, all because a faulty application of the thermal compound in the factory.
In my case, the problem started slowly and intermittently, a few days after a gaming session (Quake 3) of about three hours (at the moment, I didn't realized that could be linked to the problem).
This issue is being actively discussed in another threads in this forum, but so far there's enough evidence that it's been causing similar problems for 2011 MBPs owners: screen corruption, black/blue screens, and in some cases, a total inability to boot. Some of the threads I'm talking about:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13150366#13150366
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21110132#21110132
So far, and since the problem seems to affect only the discrete GPU (that's why you can boot in safe mode) a possible solution is to disable it by removing some extensions which prevent OS X from loading the Radeon drivers. This post describing the process (there are different files involved depending of your GPU version, so make sure you are moving the right ones):
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22521574#22521574
In the case your discrete GPU survived and is not permanently damaged, I personally had success by changing the thermal compound myself, which completely fixed the problem (at least for now). I've posted about it here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22630561#22630561
I hope you can find a solution, believe me I know the feeling when you see your expensive machine turning into a brick and it *****.
    Good luck!

  • ICloud got deleted off my MacBook Pro. Is there any way to get it back? I have an iphone now and actually have a use for it.

iCloud got deleted off my MacBook Pro. Is there any way to get it back? I have an iphone now and actually have a use for it.

Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? (It it isn't please amend it to prevent confusion).
Assuming Snow Leopard, iCloud has not been deleted - it was never there. The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing iCloud account which has been set up on a compliant device, and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work. You cannot open an iCloud account on Snow Leopard.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make full use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Icloud has disappeared from my MacBook Pro

iCloud has disappeared from my MacBook Pro.  I suspect I may have inadvertently deleted it.  It is definitely not anywhere to be found within the Preferences section.  How can I download it please when it is not on my Mac anywhere and when I go into the Apple store their instructions assume it is sitting on my computer.  I do have an iphone and am about to purchase an iPad.  Is there any  iCloud go across to the Mac Book Pro if I sync the two items.  Thank you for your help. How Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
A few of the basic OS X installed applications can be restored from the Optional Installs installer located in the Optional installs folder on your Installer DVD.  However, if what you need is not there then follow the instructions below.
How to Use Pacifist to Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
Insert the OS X Installer DVD into the optical drive.  Use a simple utility like TinkerTool to toggle invisibility so you can see invisible items.  Alternatively, open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter the following:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
    Press RETURN.
To turn off the display of invisible files repeat the above command substituting No for Yes.
The install packages are located in the /System/Installation/ folder on the DVD.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Use it to extract a fresh copy of the missing item(s) from the file archives on your OS X installation DVD. The file archives are in the /System/Installations/ folder (use Go to Folder option in the Go menu of the Finder.)
Here are Four Basic ways to use Pacifist (courtesy of George Orville.)
Drag a .pkg icon onto the Pacifist window .....proceed to step 7.
Click on “Open Package ....” and navigate to package desired and click “Open” in the open/save window.....proceed to step 7.
Insert Mac OS X installer CD and when it mounts, navigate to .... Menu->Go->Go to Folder. In the path field enter or paste ....
/Volumes/disc name/System/Installation/Packages (where disc name is the name of the CD/DVD that you inserted.)
Click on the  "Go" button ..... • Drag a .pkg to Pacifist..... proceed to step 7.
The package you'll need will have to be discovered by trial and error, but for most applications you should start with the Essentials.pkg and/or Additional Essentials.pkg.
    D. Insert your Mac OS X install disk 1 .... and open Pacifist.
    1.          In Pacifist, select "Open Mac OS X Install Packages" ... dialog may appear asking for disk 2, then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again.... {if DVD is not used)...If “Stop Loading” is selected...the procedure will stop!!!
2a. When loading is complete, a new window appears, click the triangle to display contents of each package...Select item and proceed to step 7.
2b.          or click the “Find” icon in the Pacifist window and type the name of the software you need.
    3.          In the list that comes back, click the top most entry for the item that you want. ..... that is the one for the English language.
    4.          On the top of the Pacifist window, click “verify” .... you will probably be prompted for your password.
    5.          Enter checks for.... “verify permissions” and “verify file contents.” and click “verify” ....enter password when prompted.... you will get back output which may look like this:
20 files were scanned. 20 of 20 files were present on the hard disk. 0 of 20 files had file permissions that did not match those specified in the package. 0 of 20 files had checksums that did not match those specified in the package.
    6.          Click “close”. Go to step 7.
    Extract or Install........
    7.          In the Toolbar (upper left), you now have the option to extract or install. Click a file in the lower list and those two icons will be enabled.
    8.          If “Extract to...” is selected.... navigate to the location where the file will be placed, select “choose”, select “extract” in new dialog that appears, authenicate , if prompted, click “OK”.
    9.          In the next dialog, click “Extract”.
    10.          If “Install” is selected... dialog will appear with the location/path of the installed software. Click “Install”
    11.          Type in your password, click “OK”
Pacifist will begin to extract files.
    12.          In steps 8/10ß.... you also have the choice to “cancel”
Notes:          Pacifist may find that a file it is installing already exists on the hard disk. Pacifist will present you with an alert panel....
    Stop
    Leave original alone
    Update .....
    Default selection
Replace .... (Replace option should only be used on full install packages)

  • System Lock pin code

    Hi,
My mac is asking me for a 6 digits System Lock pin code to peform a clean install (booting from a USB drive) .   My security pin code has 4 digits, not 6 but it seems that the screen doesn't allow me to type in only 4.
Had you seen this before?  any workaround or fixes ?
    Thanks in advance

Also,  If I boot up the mac using my Snow Leopard installation disk, it works and by-passes this screen which doesn't look good (safe?) to me as I can by pass the code and peform a Mac OSX clean installation.
By the way, theare are 2 codes involved here ,  the firmware password (any character)  and the system lock pin code (only numeric digits) .
I have no problem with my firmware password as my mac accepts it with no problem.  The problem is that system lock 6 digits pin-code when I chose only a 4 digits one.
