Forgotten passcode disabled ipod, can't restore.

Hi there!
My son forgot his passcode, he is willing to have his iPod Touch restored but when I go through the steps here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
it doesn't bring up the restore option. It says the iPod is locked with a passcode and we must enter it, but it also doesn't clear the iPod and bring up the keypad either.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hold the home button and the sleep button together, don't let go, if you didn't enter the password to many times, the iPod may release itself. If not, ensure you take it to a shop that unlocks items, including iPods, as there is no oth way to unlock it.
Hope this helps! Don't forget, not to tell your son off to much !!
Good luck :)

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten password:
Restore (and reset password) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:

  • HT1766 If i have forgotten the password to my 4th gen. iPod can i restore it without erasing it?!?

I have forgotten the password to my iPod 4th gen. I have gone through the process of trying and trying to enter it until i get to the "connect to iTunes" screen. I do this and i follow specific directions until i get to the "Restore iPod" option. This also tells me that by restoring my iPod i will erase all media and data. I really don't want to do that... Can someone help me to figure out if i can "enable"/get back onto my iPod without erasing everything?!?!?!
P.S. - I am especially worried about losing my photos

Unfortunately, the only way to get past a forgotten passcode, it to restore it in iTunes on your computer.   There is no way to retrieve a forgotten pass lock code.  Restoring it, does erase the data on it, however if you ever synced this data over to the computer, then you can always sync it back.
You will need to Restore your device from the same computer that you most recently synced to. See - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

You'll have to use a computer to restore your phone. If you hold down the home button while plugging your phone into your computer itunes should recognize that it is in recover mode. Then you'll have to restore the phone as new.

  • Corrupt iPod can not restore

For some reason my 5th Gen iPod has become corrupt.
When connected to iTunes I get a message to restore it which I have done several times.
Is there a file on my Mac that is also corrupt causing the iPod to be restored which continues to corrupt it?
Once I connected it to another Mac and gave it a different name it has behaved so far. If I change the name to what it had been the silliness starts all over again.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

  • My iPod Touch 4th gen is disabled for 22,000,000 minutes. I remember the passcode, and I can't restore.

My iPod Touch 4th gen is disabled for 22,000,000 minutes. I have looked all around the Apple support communities and I always find the same "solution", which is to put it into DFU or recovery mode and restore from a backup. Here's my problem: My computer crashed awhile back and I had to completely start over from scratch. So, unfortunately, a backup of my device no longer exists on this computer or any other computer.
Is there any way I can simply get rid of the disable? I remember my passcode, so that isn't a problem, all I need is to be able to input my passcode.
Or, do I absolutely have to restore to factory settings, and lose all my data?
By the way, I hope it does not matter, but I can't remember the IOS is was last updated with.
    Thanks.

  • Forgotten passcode on ipod touch

My 9 year old had a passcode on his ipod touch.  Yesterday he went to use it and it keeps saying passcode incorrect and a message that says "ipod disabled" keeps coming up now.  He didn't change it and it keeps locking us out for up to 60 min. at a time before it lets us try a new one.  VERY FRUSTRATING!  He is very responsible and I believe he did not change the code or just "forgot it".  Help please..

  • I have Iphone 4s that is on warranty but its screen has stopped working when i peek in with a external light it shows iphone disabled. and can not restore from i tunes as well. i am in pakistan and phone was bought from Canada. how can i get assistance?

hello can apple help me out.i am from Pakistan, i received iphone 4s as a gift, it was purchased in canada last march 2012. unfortunately its screen stopped working and inside screen when i try to look with external light. there was message "iphone disabled for 60 minutes" i tried restore but could not it downloads update but does not do anything i am heck upset its really something means to me alot. I tried to find out warranty claiming process but here in pakistan it has not been officially launched. Why so ? in a country where 50% people are using iphone and apple is not there? i was really shoked. well i really need help.please guide me how can i get it replaced or anything that can be claimed in warranty.it is still on warranty. But i am in pakistan where i can not find any istore where they deal with warranty. Please guide me i have studied alot and have read stories about people having same experience and apple helped them alot. I am amazed that i been giving marketing presentations on a brand which is not in my country but heared much "good" about you. and was having great experience of your device. Please dont make it true what i have heared about you.
    Regards.

Try restoring the iPhone to factory settings. If you are having difficult restoring, put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and see if that then works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, or if a restore to factory settings does not fix the problem, then your iPhone may have a hardware problem. You can only get the iPhone serviced by Apple in Canada, so you will have to take the iPhone there or send it to someone you know in Canada who can get the iPhone serviced and send it back to you. The only option for getting service in Pakistan would be to pay some unauthorized repair shop to attempt a repair, after which Apple will no longer provide any service even in Canada.
    Regards.

  • 4th Gen iPod - Can't Restore

I have a 4th generation iPod. I had a song start to skip one day and the next time I tried to connect to my computer iTunes did not recognize my iPod.
I've gone through all the suggested steps on the website even up to and including uninstalling/reinstalling the usb mass storage device, updating driver etc. The iPod is now listed with the usb mass storage device and I tried updating the driver but it says everything is ok or no newer driver than what I have already is available. But Itunes does not see my iPod and keeps freezing up. When I did get it to recognize an iPod it only said iPod and listed it as having a problem and suggested to Restore but when I hit restore it couldn't do it. Now it won't recognize the iPod at all. How do I wipe out the iPod and start over? I've also tried iPod Updater 2006-01-10 and 2006-03-23 and I get the message Invalid iPod Service Version and it closes. I have to put the iPod in Disk Mode to disconnect. When I hit button and menu to reset, after the apple appears I get the !folder error message.
This is so weird I never had any problems and then I noticed a song started to skip and then it was skipped over and the next time I connected to my computer I had all these problems listed above!

    Hi!
I have a similar problem, only I know what caused it. I didn't know that my iPod wasn't compatible with Windows Vista, and i was transferring a few documents from my desktop with XP to my Laptop with Vista.
Being as it was a new system it didn't have iTunes installed, so i did the whole "windows safely remove hardware" thing, and it corrupted my iPod. Now, it'll skip songs it can't play, drain my battery, and my XP computer will not recognize it. iTunes crashes when i have it running and connect my iPod to try and restore, and i'll even use the old "iPod Updater" things, and I get the Invalid Service Number error.
I don't care if it erases all the data and songs on it, i just want to be able to restore it to its factory settings so i can have my songs re-synced and playable again.
if you have any solutions, please email me at [email protected]
