Form field answers appear blank until I click on them - why?

I have created a form using InDesign, however when customers submit the form, the fields appear blank. Only when I click on the field the information appears. How do I solve this so I can see all answers without having to click on each individual field?

How are viewing the PDFs? This doesn't sound like an InDesign issue at all but you should be viewing PDFs with Acrobat or Reader. All bets are off for anything else, especially Mac Preview.

  • Safari users see my web pages as blank, until they click the screen

    Our company web page works well in Internet Explorer and Firefox, but using Safari some pages intially appear blank until they are clicked on. Once the user clicks in the safari window, the page loads instantly.
    The pages that appear blank seem to vary from user to user. On this mac with Safari 1.3.2, it rarely happens - only when I click on a thumbnail to view the full size image. On another mac running Safari 2.0.3, it happens on every single page.
    I created the site with another co-worker using Dreamweaver, but both of us were learning as we went along. A friendly web developer I ran into suggested the problem might be to do with using 'padding' in our css and 'cellspacing' in our tables. We used both these to define the look of the universal grid we use on all our pages.
    If this is the case, then it would seem to require rewriting every one of our web pages so that they don't use the offending system, but still look the same.
    The website in question: www.birdsportchmouthrussum.com
    Does anyone here know what is causing the problem? Was this developer correct? Is there a simple way to correct it? I really would not like to have to re-write all our pages. I'm not even sure how to accomplish the look we want by another method.
    Where else can I look to for help and advice on this issue?
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Tom,
    Thanks for replying. The problem does not occur when I follow your link - which you believe would suggest it lies with frameset forwarding.
    After a quick google to find out what frameset forwarding is, it seems I should switch to a redirect forwarding instead? What would you advise? \
    I am relieved the problem is not to do with the code. I was worried I would have to re-write the code.
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Some pages appear blank until I refresh the page then it displays normally

    When selecting some websites the page is blank until I refresh.

    This also happens to me (on Linux), usually when switching back to a tab which had already been displayed properly before. Suddenly the page is blank and the page must be reloaded manually.

  • Report is Blank Until you Click Group Tree

    Hello,
    I have a report that is opening as a totally blank page (except for group tree).  When you click on group tree, the report appears.  Once this happens, you can refresh the report, and it is fine.
    Can someone tell me what is happening, and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

    As you've discovered, this can be caused when the Preview app on a Mac saves a PDF form. Any script you download has to be installed in the correct location and then Acrobat has to be restarted. Here's a link to an updated script that works with Reader: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html
    An alternative to using a script with Acrobat is to export the form data and then reimporting it into the form.

  • How to make Form Field names appear for User??

    Hi im creating a form template that will be sent to over 150 stores so I need this to work and be easier for my stores.
    Is is possible to make the field names visable for the user so they know what details are need in the fields?
    Please if anybody can help!!

    Sorry I forgot to mention I need it to visible on Text boxes, doesnt seem to be working

  • Scrolling makes screen go blank until I click near top. Individual boxes go black. The 3.7 version works fine.

    Every time I move mouse over a box, it goes black. moving elsewhere restores it. If I scroll with cursor or mouse whole screen goes black except for some of the navigation at top. If I click at top, screen comes back.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
    In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Completed form appears blank

    I've received an interactive form (created in Acrobat 9 Pro) back completed, but all the fields appear blank until I click on one & then if I clck on another the previous one appears blank again i.e. only one at a time can be seen
    Has anyone come across this before & if so, what's the issue & the solution, please?
    Thanks
    BTW it may not be relevant but the data in the fields doesn't appear if the form's printed either.

    Most likely the form was opened and save with the Preview application on the Mac, which has lousy support for PDF forms. It actually corrupts them in a number of ways when it saves them. Since you have Acrobat, you can export the form data to an FDF file and import it into a blank form and all will no OK.

  • Fillable form appears blank when completed

    when a client returns a completed fillable form the fields appear to be blank. When clicking on a field i can see that response, but only 1 field at a time if i click on them Why does this happen? How can it be solved?

    Check this:

    If the user fills out the form using Preview on a Mac (instead of Acrobat/Reader), I believe it will exhibit the symptoms you describe. The following thread is where I got that link (GKeiseril posted it in the 4th message) although it may not have been the issue for the poster who started that discussion:

  • 2 Bugs in PDF Form Field Rendering

    Both of these bugs appear when "Show border hover color for fields" is on.
    In XObject streams used for Text Widget Annotation appearences the BMC operator does not properly respect whitespace. To reproduce:
    Create a fillable form field with a text widget annotation.
    Fill in text in the field, save the document
    Edit the content stream of the appearance stream used for the widget so that there are two spaces between /Tx and BMC instead of 1.  Be sure to shorten the content stream by 1 byte (shorten a string by a byte or remove a leading 0 in a decimal) when making the change so as not to change offsets.  Save the file.
    Open the file in Acrobat and note the text doesn't appear.  Turn "Show border hover color for fields" off and the text appears.
    In XObject streams used fo all WidgetAnnotations, the general color operators, CS, cs, SC, and sc are not respected.
    Create a fillable form field that uses /DeviceGray SC 0 sc to set the text color (this can be done by create a text field and filling it with a lot of repeating non-white space characters and then replacing the 0 g with /DeviceGray 0 sc then shortening the text string to keep the stream length the same.  Save the file.
    When the file is opened in Acrobat, the field will appear blank until "Show border hover color for fields" is turned off.
    An example file is here.
    This file has several fields, two which are prefilled.  The first field contains filled in text but does not show (it appears when you turn off "Show border...").  The second is visible.
    By editing the raw data, the second field (object 13 0) can be changed to exhibit both bugs.  To exhibit the BMC bug, insert a second space between /Tx and BMC and remove a space elsewhere.  The exhibit the second bug (after restoring BMC), change both "0 g" and "1 g" with "/DeviceGray cs 1 sc" and "/DeviceGray cs 0 sc" respectively (there is enough blank spaces to do that).

    Bugs must be reported via the official route at http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

  • Completed forms appearing blank

    I created a fillable form using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Version 10.0.1. Users download the online form from a web page (often using the Reader app on the iPad) and e-mail it to me. They are advised to e-mail the "flattened" version of the forms, but I am not certain that this always happens.
    Sometimes I open the form using Adobe Acrobat X Pro on my PC, and it appears blank. I have been informed by several users that other e-mail recipients can see the filled data without any problem.
    Today, I received a filled version of the form, and all data was visible. I forwarded the message and attachment to another person, but she received a blank copy.
    Does anyone have ideas as to what the issue might be?

    It's hard to say for sure without being able to inspect the document? It would also help to know exactly what PDF viewer is being used by everyone, particularly the last person you mentioned. Can you post a sample form somewhere that appears blank to you, and one that you can see is filled-in but appears blank to others?
    When you open a form and it appears to be blank, what happens when you click into the text fields? A problem related to how Preview on the Mac corrupts PDF forms will result in the text being shown when a filled-in field has the focus.

  • How to keep a calculation field blank until the user enters a number?

    I am building a sales sheet for a school that sells scrip as a fund-raiser. I have the document set so that when the user enters the number of scrip certificates he wants (say, two $25 gift certificates at Lowe's), the program will automatically calculate that this user owes $50 for that scrip category. However, there are more than 100 companies that one can choose from, and if the user doesn't enter a number, the calculated field shows $0. Is there a way that each field can stay blank until the user enters a number bigger than zero? By the way, I'm using this calculation to determine the value (borrowed from a user on this forum): event.value = 50 * this.getField("Lowes").value
    Thanks!

    There are two approaches. You can either add the following Validate script:
    // Custom Validate script for calculated field
    if (+event.value !== 0) event.value = "";
    Or you can change your custom Calculate script and set the Format type of the field to "None":
    // Custom Calculate script
    (function () {
        var v = +getField("Lowes").value;
        event.value = (v !== 0) ? util.printf("$%.2f", v) : "";

  • Flash site loads blank until clicked on

    I'm getting reports back that my site will go blank while
    surfers are navigating through it and only reappear when they click
    somewhere on the page. Specifically I was told that when people
    click the "discography" link from here:
    http://www.boxharp.com/scottsolter/poduction-recording-mixing.htm
    To go to here:
    http://www.boxharp.com/scottsolter/discography.htm
    That the destination page, discography, will just be blank
    until they click somewhere on the page.
    Unfortunately I'm dealing with getting the information second
    hand as I can't reproduce the error on my computers.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Matthew

    maybe you can use updateAfterEvent() to force a screen
    refresh. Other than that you could play around with adding and
    removing event listeners.
    It may well be my ignorance but event listeners don't always
    seem to behave as expected in AS3.

  • How to change font in multiple form fields?

    I am creating a form - there are about 2 dozen form fields that are set up.
    I had Acrobat detect form fields.
    Is there a way I can select multiple form fields and change the font in all of them?
    I have tried selecting all the fields [cmd A] and double clicking to get to the appearance tab.
    The only changes the font in the 1 field I double click.
    thanks everyone!

    Select all the form fields , select first the hold shift key and select the rest Then right click or control click and choose properties. then look for "Fonts" choose desired font. If this works your all set otherwise you will have to choose each indivually and change.

  • Cannot edit PDF form fields

    Windows 8.1, IE 11, Acrobat Reader (11.0.10), Acrobat Pro X1 (11.0.10)
    I received a PDF that contains what are supposedly editable form fields. When I open the document in Adobe Reader (11.0.10), a green bar appears above the top of the document stating that "This file includes fillable form fields. You can print the completed form and save it to your device of Acrobat.com", however, I am unable to type into any of the fields. Its document properties indicate that the file has "No Security", and that all operations are marked as "Allowed". I click "Highlight Existing Fields" and all the fields (dozens of them) appear highlighted, as expected. I simply cannot enter any data into the form.
    To investigate further, I opened the file in Acrobat XI (11.0.1), and enter Form editing mode (Tools->Forms->Edit).  I am unable to directly edit the form fields by clicking on them directly. There doesn't seem to be any invisible graphic layered on top of everything. The individual fields almost seem "disabled". I can, however see the list of fields in the navigation pane, and click on them individually from there and bring up their properties and modify them that way. I have checked the field properties and they all seem to be enabled, not locked, not read-only, etc...so I am at a loss as to what is preventing this form from being filled out in Reader, or edited normally in Acrobat.
    Additional info: I checked the document properties, (Document Propertied-->Description) and in the "Advanced" section, the PDF producer says that the PDF version is 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x) so I suspect this might be part of the problem. I therefore did a "Save as other...-->Reader Extended PDF-->Enable More Tools" as an attempt to upgrade the file, but that didn't help.
    Any help appreciated!
