Form fields in Indesign CC

Good day all
I have a question about form fields in InDesign CC. I have a book, and in the book are some questions that need answers to be submitted to a moderator. Can only certain text fields in a document be submitted at one time or can only an entire form be submitted?
Hope you have some good news for me.
Stefan

Thanks for the feedback, but I know that the submit button will submit the entire form - my question is: is there any way to submit just part/s of it. Think of a workbook full of assessments at different sections in the book, will there be a way of submitting only parts of the book (each assessment on its own)?

  • Want more robust form fields in InDesign for PDF forms.

    I wish that soon InDesign CS6 Interactive Form Fields will include the COMB field for entering data in various formats such as phone numbers, credit card numbers, using some sort of format like [number of characters] ["(nnn) nnn-nnnn"]. I use comb fields a lot. Likely others do too. I realize that we are at v1.0 in the InDesign Interactive fields, so I hope that the developers will consider this for the next release!
    I long for the power that Acrobat fields have to be implimented in InDesign.

  • Buttons that trigger forms fields in InDesign 5.5

    Hello,
    I have a 13 page InDesign doc that has hyperlinked text and buttons. When I export as an interactive PDF, I get the purple/pink form field bar at top. I have spent 8 hours trying to trouble shoot the issue (I have previously worked on similar 6+ layouts with same buttons and no issue). The buttons are designed to look like nav buttons along bottom of page. They have rollover states. They are on 2 master pages (one is cover and other is single-page master). The issue is on the single-page master. If I delete the buttons from this master, the form filed goes away. I have tried many, many other scenarios to fix this bug but no success. I did see that this was an issue as far back as 2008. Nothing seems to have been fixed. Any ideas?

    Open the PDF in Acrobat and select: File > Properties > Security > Security Method: Password Security
    You will then be presented with "Password Security - Settings" dialog. In the Permissions area, select the "Restrict editing..." check box and in the Changes Allowed dropdown select either "None" or "Inserting, deleting, and rotating pages". Both of these options restrict form filling, but will allow your navigation buttons to work. You will also have to enter a password, save the file, and perhaps close and reopen it. Once you do, the purple bar should not get displayed.

  • Form fields from InDesign changing type of field in Acrobat

    I created a form in InDesign CC 2014 and saved as PDF, Acrobat XI Pro. Some, but not all, of the "Combo Boxes" in InDesign got automatically converted to "List Boxes" in Acrobat. They should have been "Drop Down" boxes in Acrobat because that is the Acrobat equivalent of InDesign's Combo Boxes. Anyone know how to prevent this unwanted change?

    Hi Jay ,
    If possible please share the file on [email protected] and cc it as well on [email protected] so that we can analyse the file at our end and see what exactly is happening .

  • Font changes in PDF form fields created in InDesign

    I wasn't sure where to post this -- InDesign or Acrobat forum -- I created a lot of form fields in InDesign and when I exported to PDF, some of the form fields ended up using Times and some using Helvetica. When creating the fields in InDesign, I copied and pasted most of them to duplicate them and then changed their names, so it seems like they should all be using the same font.
    I know how to later change the form field font in Acrobat, but it's not efficient to have to do that.
    If anyone knows how to specify which font is used in an InDesign form field and make it stick in the resulting PDF, I hope you'll help me out.

    Check if there is everything OK with the <ORACLE_HOME>\tools\Common90\uifont.ali file.
    You can alias specific styles of font there. For example
    Courier.12... = Courier.14....
    changes courier 12 to 14 in the report output.

  • Multi-lined form field?

    Hi there
    I just have a small question that I have been struggling with for ages! How do I create form field in InDesign for acrobat to recognize as a ”comment” field, where you can write more than one line? I know I can draw a box in Acrobat, but I also know that there is a way to create the ”table” in InDesign for so that Acrobat will recognize it as a field.
    Thanks

    Hi Peter
    Thank you for your quick reply. I know that I can’t create the fields in InDesign, but lets say I create a line, Acrobat will recognize it as a form field. That works very well. The problem is when I want a field where you can write more than one line. If you see in this video, the guy explains that you can create a two Row table to get Acrobat to recognize it! But I simply can’t get it to work. It’s quite annoying if I would have to draw all these boxes my self in Acrobat.

  • Problem with Buttons/Form Fields in Acrobat PDF when created in InDesign CS4

    So I have been working for quite some time on an interactive form for an internal client at my job. It has two major components, one is the side bar navigation, which I created using buttons in InDesign which link to bookmarks in the document. The second aspect is that I also created "check boxes" accoring to this video: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/cs4/articles/lrvid4434_ds.html
    I have two major issues:
    1. Whenever I try to convert my boxes to form fields in Acrobat it will not recognize them unless I save out 4 pages at a time (rather than the whole document).
    2. I then have to combine the document and get multiple sets of bookmarks, and some bookamrks are corrupted (not working properly). Even when I try to convert the whole document some of the buttons are corrupted.
    UGH tired of this project, I am really bastardizing the whole thing to get it done, but want to figure out the problem as this is an ongoing document that we will be using over and over again in future years.
    I am attaching the pdf file--this is a pieced together one (saved out 4 pages at a time) (which I did do some fixes to to get buttons to go to proper locations) and the original indesign file (partial file due to size).
    PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP ME!

    Acrobat's Form Wizard is good but not perfect when creating form data from a PDF. I have never encountered Acrobat not able to finish the process of creating all form fields, but have encountered very slugish performance afterwards when there was a lot of forms, buttons, and other elements within the pages. And I would say, from your attached PDF, it is pretty heavy with content. I am going to suggest an idea, but I have not tested this to see if it would work.
    In InDesign, create a layer for your navigation tabs, and a layer for your text with the check boxes. Create two PDFs from ID, one PDF with just your-nav tabs, the second with just your text with check boxes. In Acrobat, perform the Form Wizard on the second PDF and see if this will finish, the idea here is to reduce the cllutter for the Form Wizard to finish. If it does, you can merge the first PDF as a layer with the second to have a completed document. Again, I have not tested this theory.

    I have been creating forms in InDesign and pulling into Acrobat XI Pro to do form fields. My client would like to fill in the PDF form using Reader, save under a different name locally on their device, and redistribute. The problem I have is that, sometimes, they want to redistribute the form as Read Only. I know how to flatten the form on a mobile device, but uncertain how they can do that with a PC or Mac using Adobe Reader. I looked at FormsCentral thinking there might be a solution going that route, but don't believe there is. Any advice?

    FormsCentral won't help with flattening a form. You could set up the form in Acrobat so that the fields are set to read-only, using JavaScript. Not quite the same as flattening but it's the best Reader can do.
    Note that when Reader is used to e-sign a document, it gets flattened, but this won't be possible if you need to Reader-enable the form and under certain other conditions.

  • InDesign CS6 & CC - form field PDF output very erratic, unusable, disappointing ...failure.

    Hi
    Until very recently, my workflow has been to add the form fields in Acrobat. However due to problems getting form fields to tag properly in this workflow the client has requested that the form fields be added in InDesign which on one page or very simple tests forms appeared to work fine. Based on successful tests with single page test documents we embarked on a much larger job with a very false sense of confidence
    I've just spent several days adding complex form fields to a 26 page form in multiple languages which includes text fields, check boxes and combo boxes. When output as an interactive PDF, several of the text fields and combo boxes do not highlight as form fields, but when clicked on repeatedly sometimes behave as check boxes, not as text input fields and sometimes highlight as a field when moused over, but are otherwise inert. I have tried using both text frames and images frames to create the text fields from indesign with similar results.
    Check boxes sometimes work, in other cases, give an "on" value rather than a check mark which disappears when you click on another check box or move your curser off the check box.
    d as being capable of
    I've spent several days now, reinstalling software, downloading the CC trial version to see if a later version would give better results, Outpting single pages, smaller page batches but nothing I have tried has improved this problem. The results are basically unusable, which is a major disappointment because it means that InDesign is incapable of performing a task it is advertised as being capable of. I am about to begin the tedious task of rebuilding this form in acrobat, but hope that someone from adobe will be willing to weigh in on this subject. If needed I can provide both the source files and the disappointing results.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions on salvaging something from this situation

    Hi Derek
    Thanks for sounding in. Yes, up until now I have been doing the layout in InDesign and adding form fields in Acrobat. But there are two major flaws with this workflow;
    1. there is no way to properly tag form fields in acrobat as the accessibility tool "Add form fields to tags" does not appear to do anything in the way of adding tags, so in the age of accessibility these forms are basically unusable to a person using a blind reader
    2. when the client makes edits (which they always do), you have a big workflow downstream, at the very least you have to go through and cut and paste from the old PDF to the new PDF
    Besides which Adobe has boldly made the claim that, as of CS6, the form fields can be set-up in InDesign...

  • Can I Globally Bind Fields in InDesign CS6 Forms?

    I'm used to using LiveCycle Designer to create forms, where I had a great deal of control over how the forms would look and feel and could create very complex interactivity. Particularly useful was the ability to create form fields that would repeat information throughout the rest of the form through global bindings.
    Because I'm now trying to create forms for use on mobile devices, I want to create that same level of interactivity in InDesign CS6. Anyone have any advice on how I can go about doing this?
    Thanks in advance.

    InDesign is only giving you access to the features of Acrobat (Acro forms). Acrobat has some features not accessible from within InDesign.
    There is no feature in either InDesign or in Acrobat called "global binding" for Acro forms that I'm aware of.
    Your best bet is asking questions about Acro forms in the Acrobat Forms forum.

  • How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)?

    How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)? This form will serve as an employment application on a website. The goal is to have any person (interested in applying for a job via the Internet) access, complete and electronically sign the form upon submission.

    Hi,
    Via createPDF you would not be able to electronic sign the PDF form, you would either require Adobe Reader or purchase Adobe Acrobat to sign the PDF.
    To download Adobe Reader

  • Can I retain PDF created form fields if importing back to indesign?

    Hello,
    First time forum user here.
    I have been trying to create an active form that would work as an internal approval form for any design job created in Indesign. I saw in other posts here that it is not possible to create this in Indesign so I designed my form in Indesign, created PDF & set up form fields within that Arobat file.
    I now want to imprt this back into Indesign whilst maintaining the field functionality with the intention of it becoming a Library item.
    Is this possible & what is the direction I would take to achieve this? I am not familiar with XML (which is what I tried but didn't understand what I had created).
    Hope you can help,
    Mel

    Thanks Peter,
    It was a bit of a long shot - I was trying to cheat the system somewhat but yes, your response is exactly what I have been coming up with.
    What a great function this could be though for Design Studios everywhere and more - Design Checklists/Client Approvals/Printers Notes that can be modified to auto-fill as per set fields. Can sit it in the slug and it would be a great reference point for any stage of the job (well that's my studio/production manager head talking - nice neat documentation... LOVE IT!
    Guess I will have to rely on Acrobat to get me through.
    Appreciate your time.

  • Interactive PDF Form Field Text properties InDesign CS6

    I am new to InDesign CS6 (upgraded from CS4) and after advice when attempting PDF form creation.
    Is there a way of defining text style of text colour font for the form field,
    (in the same way thay is possible if I was editing the PDF within in the text properties of Acrobat).
    Or do I need to export and change the font and colour properties from Acrobat (which would be a shame).
    thanks
    MattHM

    Short answer…no, you can’t do that in InDesign.

  • InDesign CS6, Formulare - Wortzahl für ein Feld definieren / Define word count for a form field

    I have the following question: Does InDesign CS6 offer am option to create an interactive PDF with a text/form field which allows ONLY a defined number of words?
    In this particular case I would like to create a DIN A4 page with a file dwhich allows for exactly 350 words to make the document printable. If one put's in less than 350 printing should be disallowed and at the same time it should be impossible to type more than the allowed number of words.
    Jörg Hippo Thomsen

    Hi Steve!
    Thanks to a google search I have managed to solve the issue flawlessly
    Look  at this little java script:
    var val = event.value + event.change,
    matches = val.match(/\b[\w\-\']+\b/g),
    count = matches.length;
    this.getField("charCount").value = count;
    if (count > 90) { app.alert("You have exceeded the maximum of 90 words for this text field.") }
    1. This script needs to be inserted under Properties/Format/Custom/Custom Key Stroke Script.
    2. One creates a second fiield namend charCount to display the word count.
    Voila! The text field will pop up a warning if the allowed maximum word count is exceeded and it will display the word count in the extra field
