Form is fillable in Reader but not in Acrobat

I created a fillable, saveable, password protected form in LiveCycle Designer 9.0. It works as intended if opened with Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat X. But when I email it to myself at work and open it in Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro, it's still password protected, but not fillable. Why is this?
I have a previous incarnation of the form that does work correctly in both Reader 9 and Acrobat 7 Pro. Somewhere along the way I made some changes and now it doesn't work. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Hi,
Interactive PDFs created in Adobe Livecycle will work with the target version, which will be configured at File > Form Properties > Default: Choose version to run form.
In you case what i assume (bad to say) but, you have created a PDF that works with Target version 9 or later for both Acrobat and Reader. So, when this sort of PDF form is opened in the earlier version, it provides undesirable results, and will not work properly. (For every new target version Adobe provides new functionalities to create PDFs.)
and as per the password, Adobe Acrobat has already provided with the security features in it, it works.
So, Create an Interactive PDF on setting the target version 7.0.5 or later, and i think that should work.
Apologize, in case i am misunderstanding your question.
thanks,
Rajesh

  • .pdf will open in Reader, but not Adobe Acrobat 8.0

I have a large document that was created in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and apparently the file was damaged (it's also 4.5 GB). I can open it in Adobe Reader 9, but when I try to open it in Acrobat, it shuts the program down and there is no history of it being opened. I've tried opening it back up in Acrobat 6.0, but it says the file is damaged. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to remake the document?

I do not know how you created the PDF. You might try going back and printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Open AA6 and then select the file that way. Does this work?

  • PDF shows boxes (squares) in Reader but not in Acrobat

When opening certain PDF files in Adobe Reader it shows boxes/squares at the end of some lines (see attached jpg file).
When i open this same PDF file in Adobe Acrobat everything is normal (no boxes/squares).
I checked the fonts, but these seem to be normal.
Does anyone has any idea how to solve this or where this problem comes from?

  • PDF form submission problem - works in Acrobat and Reader, but not when embedded in browser

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to submit a PDF form to an application server.
To do this, I added a "Submit" button to the PDF, configured the server's address and submit format, and tested the button.
I opened the PDF in Acrobat Pro, clicked the button, and my web application received the form in PDF format just as I wanted.
To make it work in Reader, I had to extend user rights via Acrobat Pro, and then the form worked inside Reader as well.
Up to here, everything went fine.
Then I embedded the PDF in a web page (which will be the final scenario) and it all stopped working.
The submit button doesn't do anything anymore, and no data is sent to the application server.
I even tried switching from the form's submit mechanism to calling event.target.submitForm(...) in Javascript directly, but nothing changed (meaning this too worked only when opening the form as an "offline" pdf, but not when embedding it in a web page).
Is there something I am missing? Something else that must be configured/activated in order to be able to submit the PDF when it is in the form of an embedded object?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Alex

    Thanks for your reply, Paul.
I tested the submit button both in Reader 9.3 and Acrobat 8 (which is the same I used to RE the PDF).
Apparently I got it working too, but only by deploying my embedding web page to an application server.
The final environment the PDF will be embedded into will be inside a web application deployed to an application server, so I guess my problem is solved.
It didn't work only when embedded into a local test.html web page saved on my PC...
Thanks again, have a good day.

  • Reader X: DDE Open command can open Reader but not open a specified target PDF

Once again Adobe has issued an update which breaks existing business systems. After the fiasco of Reader 9.3.4 failing to open external files such as SWF or XLS, the new Reader X is not opening the requested PDF when called via DDE.
The Reader X always opens with a "What do you want to do?" panel, offering various manually selected actions. What is required is for the Reader to open the PDF file specified in the DDE call, as it has done in all previous versions.
Is there a fix for this, or an alternative calling mechanism?
We have an external application which allows students to navigate around the various modules and lessons within their course. When they select a lesson, a DDE call is raised to request the appropriate lesson PDF to open in Reader. The external program uses a small floating, semi-transparent form, which allows easy lesson selection, automatic bookmarking and other functions. This functionality could not be achieved with simple PDF full of hyperlinks to the lessons.
The further problem is that many hundreds of these various courses are already in use by students around the world. We cannot easily prevent them from accepting upgrades to Reader X, nor supply them all with an alternative control method. All we can do is suggest anyone experiencing this problem to dump the new version and download version 9.4
Has anyone any ideas to fix the broken functionality in Reader X, or a satisfactory way to work around this failure ?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your contribution Dave.
The DDE call should not be case sensitive. Various writings on this page quote Acroview and AcroView, but I have tried various combinations and results are the same whatever case is used. It is acroviewR10 which I have used with success in my updated calls.
ManishPali has not responded to my question of where he found these R10 and A10 settings, but if these were intended to be the only access, they can give rise to even more scope for program failure. The majority of users will have only the free Reader, but some may have the full Acrobat program, and not Reader. So when we use 'acroviewR10' in our call, anyone with only Acrobat will again find the program failing.
Also of note is that using 'acroview' works in a call to open Reader X, but will not work to close Reader X or to open a PDF within Reader X. Why is one service still recognising the plain acroview, but the other services require the R10 suffix?
Dave says that this should be fixed in version 10.0.1, but is this just a hope, or a statement of intent from someone involved with Reader development? If this is fixed, how long will it take for that next release to be in common circulation?
In the meantime, we are preparing patches to send to any students who experience this problem, and also upgrading the master CD for each Course to add an option to the Config menu, allowing the user to select Reader X or not.
I think the developers at Adobe believe every user is within a corporation with centralised IT control, so everyone has the same, known version of any software and can be given new versions or advised of issues at will. In the real world, there are millions of independent users scattered across the globe who have no IT support and often have limited knowledge. For example, it is not uncommon to ask a user which version of Windows they are running and be quoted their MS Office version instead. Any extra complication in setting up or using their new software is a significant problem likely to result in lengthy support calls, and a loss of confidence in the product.

  • Form prints from one account, but not from other on same computer

With Brother 5040 printer and latest driver.
I have a form in a Panorama V db file that will print properly from my "Test" account, but not my main account on the same machine.
When I try to print this form from my main account I get a the intitial Print Dialog, then brief flash of the preparing to print. But it never makes it to the printer. It was working fine up until yesterday. I made no system level changes.
This is a word processing form in PanV. Other forms in the same file print fine. A word processing form in a different file also has developed the problem. Obviously, there is some connection to Panorama, still looking for troubleshooting solutions.
    Martin

Look for a problem in your user library. Try removing printing preference and other printing-related files from the library, as well as the Panorama plist. Then log out and back in, and see if it prints properly.

  • PDF files opens in Adobe Reader  9 but not Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

After one of my users digitally signs a PDF file, and saves it, he cannot open it again.
He gets either a reference memory error or a Font Capture error.

So the option was already checked when opened the document. I went ahead and unchecked, closed, reopened just to test and it's still not displaying correctly.
In response to Bill@VT. The image is on top of a white background so I can't tell if there is space there or not, it's just all white.
She showed me another document that's doing something similar today. This time the pdf was done with a green background and now the background shows as white. It was created the same way with Indesign and it shows fine in Reader and the Windows preview pane just not Acrobat. I'm trying to get the user to find the installation media so I can remove and reinstall, but I'm not sure if she will be able to find it.

  • PDF's viewable in Reader but not in Pro

I have a user, that in the beginning, everytime he opened an email with a PDF attachment, it would open in Internet Explorer. We found where that was resolved, but then the PDF started opening in Adobe Reader. He has Adobe Professional 8 installed. I saved a PDF to his C: drive, went to the c drive and right clicked on the file, did a view file types, and it was pointing to Internet Explorer. I scrolled down to locate the Adobe Professional, and the only Adobe in the list was Adobe Reader. I did change that, and now he can open PDF's from emails into Adobe Reader. However, he would really like them to open in Adobe Professional. (All his applications now open PDF's to Adobe Reader)
We have attempted to uninstall the Professional, rebooted, and reinstalled, and the professional adobe is still not in the view file types.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thank you!

Following up on Bill's post, if you are using Outlook, there are add-ons that override the Windows file associations. There are add-ons for other email clients as well. Disabling add-ons for any email client would be a good next step for troubleshooting.
You might also double check your security settings in your mail client and internet options for your browser (particularly IE) to make sure those settings allow pdfs to be opened from the web, or whatever the Windows folks are calling things nowadays. When I had IE and Outlook, my IE settings affected my Outlook. Could be similar for your configuration. Anti-virus installations and programs like Altiris could also cause issues, but the others users would be have the same problems too, which is not the case.
Regarding file associations, you have detailed trying the different resolutions presented here and in response to your previous post for the same issue (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2391275#2391275). If I read correctly, the current system configuration now does not have Acrobat Professional installed, but does have Reader. The next step would be to eradicate Reader from the user's system. After uninstallation, remove the folder left behind and remove any remaining pdf file associations if they still exist. If you are comfortable editing the registry, you could also search for any leftover references there. Reinstall Acrobat Professional, check the file association for PDF and make sure it points to the Acrobat Professional executable. With add-ons disabled in whatever email client is in use, see if the issue still exists.

  • Image Capture connects to card reader but not camera

Image Capture and iPhoto do not detect new connected Canon camera.  Will read card via card reader.  Camera will connect to older macbook iPhoto and Image Capture but not my iMac.  Image Capture in Mountain Lion has no perferences anymore.  Tried Repairing Disk Permissions but no success. Any ideas?

Sorry, there is no setting on the AirPort Extreme card built-in your new iMac that can be tweaked to "force" a connection to the Netgear's "n" network.
Does your Netgear allow for different Network Names (or SSIDs) for each of its radios? If so, you can try an experiment by renaming the 5 GHz radio's Network Name, and then, specifically connect the iMac to it.
Also, since "n" can operate on either radio, it appears that your iMac is "locking" on the 2.4 GHz radio. Does your iMac have any trouble connecting to any other "n" Wi-Fis? If so, then there may be a problem with either the AirPort Extreme card or the internal antennae on the iMac ... and it would warrant a visit to your local Apple Store to have them take a look.
