Form question: lock in preferences?

I created my form on my Mac and sent it to a colleague using a PC. When she opened it, her preferences were applied. Is there a way that I can lock in my preferences? For example, I don't want required fields outlined.

You cannot set her preferences, there are document preferences that can be set but not user preferences. As to required fields being outlined, required fields cannot be enforced if they are not outlined then how would a user know they were required. Of course my question is why would we expect a user to know a field is required by outlining them, but that is a different story.

Master-Detail Form Questions

Master-Detail Form Questions
I have two questions in regards to master-detail forms:
First, the form I am working on has 25 detail rows displayed to the user. If the user has more than 25 detail records for the master, I want them to be able to add more. For instance, after they enter the 25th record, I would like a pop up window to ask them if they would like to add more detail records for this master. If they select yes, then the records they have entered would be saved and then the form would repopulate with the current master record and another empty 25 detail records.
Second, I would like the Detail Action to be set to Insert if the user moves to a new detail row and selects an item from a combo box.

Is there a way to repopulate only the Master information without populating the detail after the 'Save' button is pressed? I have written code that uses the session variables and repopulates the form with all the data that has just been saved, but I need only the master without the detail.

Object class deployment - Basic form question

OK, I subclass calendar object from Oracle provided standard
object class. What do I need to deploy to use this form now
apart from calendar.pll and my fmx. What about the object class
from which I sub-class. Do I need to compile and deploy that
also? How will form resolve this on run time the parent object
class as I really did not copy, just sub class and we do not
deploy original class? Basic form question. Thanks.

You can set the "help" property on the field (which gives you the little "information" icon link beside the field).
You could also try adding another field of another class above or below:

HT201184 Since I upgraded to Lion MACOSX.10.7.3 my toolbar does not fully load and my Airport settings change and do not allow me access to the internet even though I lock my preferences. I'm going crazy trying to fix this problem.

Since upgrading to Lion OSX.10.7.3 I am having network problems. It changes my preferences even though I lock them. I cannot connect to the internet most of the time. How do i lock my preferences so the program will not change them? When it changes them it also freezes the curser where it won't work. I'm going crazy trying to fix this problem. Please help me!

Changing desktop pictures locks system preferences

Re MacBook Pro laptop (OS 10.7.5)
Problem: Changing desktop pictures locks System Preferences
If I try to open System Preferences, I get windows for the Change Desktop/Background and the whirling beach ball begins until I go to Activities Monitor to Force Quit System Preferences, which informs me that my "System Preferences is no longer responding."
I have no trouble booting my Mac,
checked my Disk Utility informing me that there are no errors,
checked Permissions without errors,
went to Users>"my name">Preferences>found the plist for com.apple.systempreferences, moved it to my desktop, tried the Apple System Preferences option with same result. Returned plist . Hmm, just noticed that I have com.apple.systempreferences with one directly after Library ( i.e., not in any folder), and the other in the Library>Preferences folder. Could that be the foul up? Perhaps one of these plists is misplaced.
Any suggestions?

First follow the instructions in this support article.
If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.
Otherwise, continue as below.
Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
          Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
          Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
          Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
          Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

Is there a way to lock the 'preferences' on Firefox so that students cannot access them?

I work at a school and would like to use Firefox with my students. We are concerned that students may be able to change certain preferences on the public computers. Is there a way to lock the preferences?

Syncing locked system preferences

I have 3 computers that sync everything (including perferences) via MobileMe. That works fine except that I'd like the energy saver and security settings to be different. If I make those two system preferences different for each computer, and LOCK them, will they keep their independent preferences upon syncing?
I could experiment but computers are at different sites right now.

no rhyme or reason. any help would be appreciated.

If you are using an Admin account for your daily-Use account, that is a problem.
The Admin can unlock and bypass nearly everything, so these things will not stay locked for your Admin account.
To protect these items from others, you need to create a new Admin account that you will use ONLY for Administration (such as installing software) and use it to demote your daily-use account to a non-Admin account. then things that are locked will stay locked, and others who wander by your computer will not be able to unlock them.
PS. Others in your household should each have their own "User" (not Admin) account. Then you can add additional restrictions with Parental Controls.

Locking InDesign preferences

I work with a group of newspapers that are a small distance from each other and use InDesign for all of our layout/design/ad work. We would like to be able to "lock" the preferences in each location so that permissions would be required to change the preferences (such as grids, spell check, etc). We are finding that as people become familiar with the program, they are making changes based on their own personal preferences which do not coincide with our company preferences.
Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

OK - here is our logic from a management stand point:
Our locations are very rural with distances of up to 50 miles - and up to 2 hours - apart from each paper. Within each area, employee potential is limited, at best, and we have employees that range from college educated within their fields to people who simply have an aptitude and need training. The owners and manager of this group of papers wishes to standardize as many set items as possible to eliminate certain interpretations that individuals may employ. In my opinion these people are not unreasonable in their requests.
An example of this is the background gridlines. By using the gridlines set at 1 pica, we can be reasonably sure that the paginated page will have a minimum of 1 pica between stories or ads - the standard they would like to have on a consistent basis. In one case we have an individual that insists the lines are too distracting and turns them off. This is fine for her, but the the consistency of where items are placed on the page are then subject to her eye, which may - or may not - be as we would like in the final output. The five papers are produced within days of one another, and given the distance between each, it is not feasible to stand over each person to insure they are doing what has been asked - nor does anyone really want to do this. We hire people to do a job and need them to do that job.
The second example would be the spell checking. I realize it places a red line on the document, and yes, files are proofed by a person. But, if the spell check can reduce errors that would otherwise make it to the printed page, we feel that it is worth having activated. Again, in the case of the individual who doesn't like the spell check and turns it off, we find that every week yet another ad runs with a misspelling because it was missed by the human eye.
We do train, we do spend time with employees, but ultimately it keeps coming back to personalities that feel they know better. Yes, we could fire the individual(s) who refuse to accept new processes and policies - and yes, it may even come to that - that would not be my call. I was asked to try to find a way that we might be able to just take those to issues off the table. They want grids for consistent alignment and they want spell check for accuracy sake. And in the future, we know that we will always have a varied skill set that works for us - some will be ready, willing and able - some not so.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

I have no idea, but this is definitely something local in your database. Just drop the package and re-create it. If the Object Browser doesn’t show you the package, try to use SQL*Plus.

This is a regular PL/SQL package, and with the proper privileges, can be used anywhere on the database, with or without APEX connection.
This package is “special” because it’s includes all you need to manage Optimistic Locking, which is characteristic to Web based applications. Other than that, you can use it whenever you need to manipulate the related table(s).

APEX don’t know anything. When you are building a manual tabular form, it is also your responsibility to construct the proper DML processes. If you want your tabular form to support insert/update/delete you’ll need to construct three processes, each with the proper DML statement, each condition by the proper button. In your private case, as you need to support update only, you’ll need to build only one DML process (PL/SQL anonymous block), which will call the proper update procedure from the package.

How do I add a Handwritten Signature to my form? And other Form Questions

Hi there,
I'm making a form for parents who's kids are going to drive a motorcycle for the first time.
Now I want to use my laptop with touchscreen for people to fill it in.
the normal boxes (name, adres etc) with keyboard.
But the important part is the SIGNATURE which has to be handwritten.
It's for insurance and legal autorisation from the parents that the kid is allowed to drive and they know the risks and rules.
How do I add a box in which parents can sign.
Or is there another solution to make it legal?
Another question now I might have someones attention:
After a parent is done filling the form and presses OK or DONE
Is there a way a parent can choose to use a new blank form or the same form again without date of birth/name/sex
so he/she can fill the forms faster for the rest of the kids?
OR
Is it possible to let a parents say I have 4 kids (with a choice menu)
and the parent wil get 4 name/age/sex openings and the rest of the form will stay the same?
And
Is it possible to export the whole bunch into a excel for easy usage

Just to share some info for this:
I used to do this sort of thing quite a bit. What I used was a scanner to scan my hand written signature to an image file. I would then paste the image file, which supported transparency, over the signature line. More recently, I used Photoshop to draw a signature saving in a transparent image file.
Just to warn you though: you are asking for legal advice, and you are not going to get that here. I would consult with an attorney to find out exactly what is legal.

Acrobat 9 Professional form question

I have created my 1st acrobat form and am having trouble getting the submit button I have set-up on the form to work.
We want to be able to post the form to our University's web site and have students fill it out when needed and then have it e-mail back the completed pdf file when the submit button is clicked.
I set up the submit button with a action Mouse up/ Submit a form and in the enter a url for this link field I have entered emailto:email@address but it does not work locally or when posted to the web. The form fields work but the submit button will not work!
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

To use it without the limit, you have to negotiate with Adobe on a price. On a university site it should be easy enough to have someone help a web submission (there are just too many potential problems with e-mail submission in such an environment) and have an FDF data file submitted (or XML). The file is easily opened in the form, giving you what you wanted them to save, and without the restrictions. You can also use some of the tools to add the data to a database for further use. Don't get locked into the e-mail and full form trap, but use the simpler way with the data submission to a web script (simpler in the long run).

Mail Form Question

I'm VERY new to Dreamweaver, have just created a Mail Form in
PHP and have absolutely no idea what to do with it now. It's one of
those typical forms with To:/Email:/Message: I know this is a
painfully basic question but I can't seem to find the answer in

upload the .css file that it uses.
2- If you have a field in the form to collect the visitor's
email address,
IF you name this field in the form exactly

email address will be the Reply To address in the outgoing
email.
