Form underlines all become solid boxes when saved as Reader Extended PDF

I create a form with Live Cycle Designer ES2.
My firm prefers underlines, not solid boxes, and not sunken boxes.
Underlines.
The form looks good, but as soon as I save it in Acrobat Pro X as a Reader Extended PDF->Enable Additional Features, all the underlines automatically turn into solid boxes.
A co-worker creates similar forms purely in Acrobat Pro X (NOT Live Cycle); none of his underlines ever morph into boxes.
The general opinion around these parts is that the boxes look hideous.
Is this normal behavior? Why does it only happen with forms created in Live Cycle?
What can I do to keep the underlines I spent so much time creating in the first place?

Thank you for the info, George.  I have posted an example on dropbox - https://www.dropbox.com/s/qyiudku6pqm3kxf/rehire%20packet%20rev%20Mar%202013%20%28full%203 a3%29.pdf
I'm getting closer to resolving as at now text can be entered in non-signature boxes.  Given who will be completing these forms I'll stick to e-signature rather than digital.  Do I use a different form field for those or does the recipient plug that in from the Sign section in Reader?

  • Still can't sign form created in Adobe X, saved as Reader Extended PDF, Additional Features enabled

I've been trying to make a form work in Reader with fillable fields and signature enabled.  I want to give users the option of typing their information and using  a choice of Pen Signature or Digital Signature.  For some reason you can neither fill in the forms nor insert digital signature or use the Pen option to sign.  All highlighted fields are just shaded boxes in Reader, not fillable.
After saving and reopening with Adobe X Pro,  both security and document properties indicate the form allows fillable fields and signing but I get the following message when testing in Adobe Reader:
The security settings on this document prevent adding text and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader,.  To fill and sign this you need to print it out.
Document properties are set to No Security, with no restrictions and Edit>Preferences>Security>Digital Signatures has nothing ticked on the first page.
Digital Signatures Advanced Preferences are marked as Verification document specific, prompt if not available; Ignore document validation; Verify Signatures using Current Time.
Under Creation tab Default Method is Ask When I Sign.  Default Signature Signing  Format is locked at selecting between the 2 certificate standards - PCKS #7 - Detached and CAdES - Eaquivalent.
I've tried leaving out the digital signature verification which is, of course, impossible when there are Digital Signature fields in the document.
The goal is to be as paperless as possible but this sure isn't working if you have to print it out.  And, of course, it can't be saved in Reader, either, to then try to fill in the forms.
Any and all answers are appreciated!

  • Saving a reader extended PDF form as read-only

Before posting this, I've searched for hours in the forums and the internet on how to accomplish this but I just can't find the solution.
I've created a simple form in Acrobat and saved it with reader extended attributes so it can be saved by my colleagues in Adobe Reader once filled in. The problem now is they need to send these out to customers but in an unfillable state. I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm hoping for a simple solution if anyone could help me out, thanks.

Create a button somewhere on the form and add the following to the Mouse Up event:
// Set these fields to read-only
    getField("Text1").readonly = true;
    getField("Text2").readonly = true;
    getField("Check Box1").readonly = true;
// continue for any other fields
    // Hide this button
    event.target.display = display.hidden;
Only use the actual field names that you're using in your form. The users should be sure to save to a new file, and I would suggest that they set the blank form to read-only via the file system so they don't accidentally overwrite it.

  • When I try to save a form as "Reader Extended PDF" in Acrobat Pro, I get an error message "This document could not be reader enabled".

    Hello,
When I try to save a form as “Reader Extended PDF” in Acrobat Pro, I get an error message “This document could not be reader enabled”.
The steps I’m following are described below:
    1.    Insert electronic signatures
    - In Tasks, click on “Add New Field -> Digital Signature”.
    - Move the square to the place where you want to put the signature and click.
    - Fill in the “field name” with the name of the person who has to sign here.
    - When it is done, click anywhere on the screen.
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
    2.    Save the Form
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.0.0 on a W7 workstation
Here's a screenshot of the problem.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Need to see ALL files in folder when saving from Word 2003 OR Word 2013 program

Here is the issue.... A customer of mine has the need to save files in order (Communications with customers by date and time)
BUT..... when saving the file word does not let him see ALL the documents (.doc AND .docx) in the save dialog. (I know we could convert but there seems to be issues with the conversion, at least on the research I have done)
Is there a way for the Word save dialog box to display ALL the files in the selected folder?  OR is this just an undocumented feature OR a WOW we never thought of that....
    Thanks!

    Hi,
When we save a Word document, the "Save As" dialog only displays these files which are the same type as the one we are trying to save. To display other types of files, select from the "Save as type" box, but I haven't realized there's a way to show
all types of files when saving. This is just how it works so far.
    Thanks,

  • Ghosted "Include Linked Files" box when saving artwork?

Why will Illustrator CS5 not allow me to check the "Include Linked Files" box when saving my artwork as AI or EPS?

When you placed the files into you AI file did you use the Place command from the File menu and have the Link box checked or did you use copy/paste? If you used the latter then the files are embedded. The Include Linked Files will also embed the files and make them non-linked. I don't know if that is what you are after. This is real non-intuitive.

  • Subform duplicates when saved as reader enabled

    Hi all,
I have run into a strange issue in my form. I have a subform that is repeatable and it works perfectly when I test the form in Livecycle or Adobe Reader. However, when I use Adobe Acrobat to save the form as Reader Extended PDF>Enable Additional Features it screws up the form so that when it is opened in Reader there are two instances of my subform instead of just one. To make it worse, every time the form is saved and re-opened it adds a new instance of the repeatable subform.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?

When you encounter this kind of issue, you must find which object is causing this problem.
When you save the file with Adobe Acrobat it saves it as it is, but when you open it, Adobe Reader is mixing two objects together which cause one of them to have some properties of the other object.
I suggest you make a copy of your form by saving it as another name, then start to delete objects EXCEPT the one having this issue until the issue is gone.
When the issue is not occuring anymore, that means the last object you have delete is the problem, you might have to change its name or recreate the object..
It might happens often if you have two different object in two whole different paths that has the same name, just by changing its name might fix the problem
It might happen if you have two other objects than the one having the issue with the same name as well which means
    e.g.
Object name having the issue: frmRepeat
And accross the hierarchy you have two other forms named frmBlank
You might have to change one of the frmBlank's name to fix the problem...
I know it might be a long way to debug this issue, but it is how you can fix it

  • Table of Contents become not clickable when I convert Pages to PDF

    Hello,
I created a document in Pages but the TOC becomes not clickable when I export it to PDF. I tried "Print as PDF", too but didn't work. Is there a fix or workaround? I am working on User Manual for a new system for my company and not many people will be able to use Pages document.
    Thanks!

    What version of Pages?
Sounds like Pages 5.2.2. They are supposed to have fixed that, but seems you are still having the problem.
If you are doing a manual you will be far better off using Pages '09.
Pages 5.2.2 has so many features missing. and is buggy to boot.

  • Form Creation in Acrobat X Pro - unable to save as Reader Extended PDF

I am using Acrobat X Pro on the Windows 7 OS. I have created a document in Word (Office 2010), saved it as a PDF and added form fields. When I try to Save As Reader Extended PDF, the options are grayed out. How do I create a form from a Word document that allows all end users to be able to type in the fields, use a digital signature, save a copy and print the PDF with the completed fields?

In create the document in MS Word and save the file. Then I select print, and choose Adobe PDF as my printer to save it as a PDF. I then open the PDF file and select Tools, Forms, to create the form and add fields as needed. After I'm finished, I attempt to "Save As" and try to select Reader Enabled PDF, but the options are grayed out and unavailable.

  • Why are calculation functions lost from Reader Extended PDF when downloaded from website?

I am creating PDF forms with most fields performing calculations. I am saving the forms out as Reader Extended PDF> Enable Additional Features. When I email the form there is no problem with the person using the form, all calculations work. The person is able to save the form and all info is present.
However, when the same file is posted on a website with a clickable link to download, once downloaded, all the calculation functions are missing from the fields. Additionally, when the user fills the form out anyway, the info in the fields is invisible.
I am on a MAC OS 10 using Acrobat X Pro. The majority of the people going to the website and using the forms are on Windows. What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you're actually using the Preview application when viewing the form on your Mac. It does not support JavaScript, which is how the automatic calculations are implemented. It also corrupts forms when it saves them. A result of this corruption is when the form is subsequently opened in Acrobat/Reader, the fields are blank unless a field has the focus. • Problem saving Reader extended PDF created in Livecycle with Javascript functions built in

    Afternoon
I have created an interactive PDF in Livecycle with built in Javascript functionality.  I need users to be able to complete and save the PDF so have saved it as a Reader extended PDF.  The problem I'm having is that when a user completes the form, saves it, and then opens it again the Javascript functionality is not showing despite showing the original selection that the user has made.  The Javascript is simply a dropdown menu that will show a different table based on the selection so isn't anything major.
I've trawled forums and this is driving me mad so I'd appreciate some help.
I am using Adobe Pro XI.
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

At the moment I can't sorry.  I've run the Javascript debugger in Adobe Pro and it seems there are some errors
Acrobat EScript Built-in Functions Version 11.0
    Acrobat SOAP 11.0
    ReferenceError: Table is not defined
    1:XFA:form1[0]:TextFieldContainer[0]:#subform[3]:#area[1]:Button1[0]:initialize
    ReferenceError: Table is not defined
    1:XFA:form1[0]:TextFieldContainer[0]:#area[2]:Button1[1]:initialize
    ReferenceError: Table is not defined
    1:XFA:form1[0]:TextFieldContainer[0]:#area[3]:Button1[2]:initialize
    ReferenceError: Table is not defined
    1:XFA:form1[0]:TextFieldContainer[0]:#area[4]:Button1[3]:initialize
Basically the form has been built in Livecycle Designer and have drop down menus that show or hide tables depending on the selection but when I Reader Enable the form and users make a selection and then save the form it is not showing the table when it is opened again.
    I appreciate your help

  • Saving a .pdf Created in Flare9 as Reader Extended PDF

When I first installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro and built .pdfs from Flare, I was able to save the .pdf with the "Reader Extended PDF" function. Now, that capability is no longer available and in order to access this feature I must save the .pdf and open X Pro, open the saved document and save, again, as X Pro. However, the actual commenting feature seems to be "hosed," and, in my capacity as a technical writer, this has gotten a bit frustrating. Is there something in the properties of X Pro that I need to reset? Thank you.

Not sure I understand the isssue. How were you building PDF files from Flare and getting a "Reader Extended PDF"?  Was this a menu or option in Flare?  For Acrobat it's always been either Save as [Extended Option], Send for Shared Review, or LiveCycle Reader Extension Server to get an Extended PDF file.  Also, if your users have Adobe Reader XI, they can comment with Sticky Notes and Highlighters by default now.
