Form wizard cannot detect fields

I designed a form in InDesign CS4 and saved it as a high resolution PDF file. I open the PDF file in Acrobat 9 Pro and go to Forms > Start Form Wizard, select the current document and get the error message: "No new form field annotations were detected."
I have created forms this way in the past and this is the first time this process hasn't worked for me. Any suggestions on what could be causing the problem? (Do I need to export the PDF a particular way or something else?)

Exporting from InDesign with printer: Adobe PDF and PPD: Adobe PDF 9.0
Paper: Letter
Crops: Off
Output Color Settings: I have tried Composite Grayscale, CMYK, RGB and Separations (Black)
Graphics: All
Fonts: Complete
PDF Default settings: I have tried Standard, High Resolution Print, PDF/X-1a:2001, Press Quality, Smallest File Size, Standard
For example, I have tried combinations such as exporting as black separations with the Press Quality setting or as a Composite CMYK image with the PDF/X-1a:2001 setting.

  • Is there a way to make the Form Wizard group things in the order I want it to?

I am creating a multi-page checklist. Each question has a radio button with the possible answers of yes, no or n/a. When I run the Form Wizard, it detects the boxes I created, in Word using the Developer, but it puts all the yes's in a group, all the no's in a group and leaves the n/a's out. Is there a way to make it so when the Form Wizard creates the radio buttons, it puts a yes, no and n/a in one group? I don't want to have to create a sepearte group for each question. These checklists are long and there are hundreds of questions.

The auto field detection feature is designed to look for Yes/No text labels next to each radio button group -- not specifically n/a. Do you have a group label to the left or above each group? This is how each group is determined -- if it's not there they'll default to check boxes. For more detail on how the auto field detection feature works, check out the tutorial Designing Forms for auto field detection. Also, there were a few improvements in the 9.2 release, so make sure you're using this point release or later.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Form Wizard isn't detecting form fields?

    Hi there,
I've been scouring various forums, blogs, etc. to find an answer to my problem, and have yet to be successful.  Here it is:
I've created a form in Illustrator CS5 using the rectangle shape tool to indicate form fields.  I need users to be able to enter information in each of the specified fields.  I've saved the file as a .PDF and have opened it into Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I then select "Start Form Wizard" from the Forms menu, and after making the appropriate selections it tells me: "No new form field annotations were detected." and then prompts me to the form editing page.  I've also tried simply selecting "Add or Edit Fields" from the Forms menu and the same thing happens - it isn't detecting any form fields.
The only time the Form Wizard or Add or Edit Fields options work is if I use underlines instead of boxes as the form fields, but I'd really prefer to use the boxes since they lend themselves to the aesthetics of the document much better.
I'm new to converting Illustrator files into interactive .PDFs, so I'm not sure what I should be doing.  The background color of the document is grey and the boxes are white with no outline (I tried it with an outline around the boxes and it still didn't work).  Any advice would be much appreciated!  Thanks.

    Hi Beth
How big are  these fields? Are they for entering text or just check boxes?
I have found that sometimes FormWizard is not compatible with some Quark files.
Sounds like it might be easier for you to do the fields manually.
First draw the field like you want it and set that as the default then you can choose to paste multiple fields.
Also if you want to use a line for FormWizard you can make the background of the field white and cover the line with it.

  • Forms Wizard Not Running or Detecting Fields

I'm using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and am having problems with the forms wizard.  In the past, when I would click on create form from a form on the screen, the wizard would pop up and recognize the fields to create a fillable form.  Now, it just takes me to the tasks pane without running the auto field detection wizard.  I can still add the fields manually, but would really like to be able to use the wizard.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chip Stewart

Maybe starting the OC4J is a good idea ....
Source the valid AS environment, then issue :
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl status
You will probably notice that the OC4J is not running ...
    in this case issue :
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startporc ias-component=OC4J

  • Form Wizard, Excel Sourced Documents, Dozens of Extra Fields

I have a series of PDF documents which I generate on a weekly basis from MS Excel reports.
    It looks something like this:

When I run this through Form Wizard, I get a form field in every blank cell.  I'd really like form fields limited to the Order 1 column.  Is there anything I can do to trick the Form Wizard to limit its attention to this area?  Perhaps by modifying the underlying Excel form before printing to Acrobat?
    Edit:
Maybe I should mention that it's the fact that I have 200 pages/week that motivates me to look for a reduction in the Form Wizard initial field generation.  It takes me a little over 2 minutes a page to delete out the 100+ extra fields per page.  Eliminating the better part of a day's repetitive labor is kind of a big deal.

Here are some ideas you can try. You can delete fields with JavaScript, so you could set up a script that loops through the fields and deletes them based on some criteria, such as the position on the page or the field name that Acrobat automatically generates. You can set up the script so it's activated from a custom toolbar button or menu item, or as part of a batch sequence (custom action). If you'd like specific help with the code, it would help if you could post a sample document that has the fields added.
An alternative that you can use if the layout of the document will remain unchanged is to add the fields using a script, perhaps taking advantage of tempates. So instead of running the Form Wizard to add the fields, you create a script to add the fields exactly where you want and with the field names and any other properties you want.

  • Is there a way to change field names globally in Form Wizard?

Form Wizard often selects nearby text to create a name for a text box. Is there a way I can globally change the field name for a series of text boxes? For instance, I have a field name that Form Wizard created that says "Policy NumberPolicy that requires a specific" and I want it to be simply "Policy Number."
If there is no way to fix it globally, is there a way to prevent it happening in the first place?
Also, is there a way to automatically convert a text box to a check box?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, the answer to all of your questions is no.  The closest you can come is to use a script to create a new field with a new name that has most of the same properties as the old field, and then delete the old field, but you'd have to find some way of deciding which fields shold be changed. You do not have any control over the form wizard apart from changing the PDF so it has a different design/layout. Converting a text field to a check box wold have to use the approach metioned earlier, but you'd have the same problem of determining which ones to change.

  • Sharepoint 2010 - Cannot make field Required in Add New Item form.

I made a fleld Required by making the proper selection in List Settings > Editing the column.  It now shows as required when I edit an existing record in the list, but is not required when adding a new item.  Why does the setting not apply
to the Add New Item form?  How can I make it apply/required?
btw, there are no content types associated with the list.

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot make field required in the list new form.
For my test, I created a custom list , added a non-required field and added some records. Then I made the field required. But it worked fine as expected both in existing records and  in Add New Item
    form.
Do you have some customization in your list new form?
You can go to your list -> Customize Form under  list tab, then the new form will be opened in the InfoPath. In the InfoPath, right click the field and select Text Box Properties, make sure “Cannot
    be blank”  has been checked.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? The file will not update and images will not load.

Thanks a million. I don't know how it is that all files didn't get loaded but that was the issue.

You may not have the full set of ADDT files uploaded to your server. Make sure that you have uploaded /includes/common/lib/file_upload directory and the 2 files it should contain: KT_FileUpload.class.php and KT_FileUpload.php.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using dynamic form wizard dont allow decimals

using the dynamic form wizard converts a given number using decimals in integer !!
example : if i use a text field ( in a form generated with the wizard) that will input a number with decimals : 123.44, the form sends 12344 to the db.
i´m using an access db (2003) and the numeric fields are declarated as number type
    any ideas to solve this?

The problem is the same when using the Insert Record Form Wizard. I've made all the fields mandatory, but the file field still doesn't look like it has the content of the form passed through to the database. I've recreated the page, and double checked that the correct links are being made between the form inputs and the database fields, but still get the following:

I've also tested on both my local development server and the hosting server now, and have the same problem on both. It also happens if I just create the form, but don't apply the file upload behaviour - so it seems like it might be a problem with the supplied behaviours and how they handle the content of file inputs from forms.
I've only used the file upload in PHP before, where it seemed to work quite happily.

  • Problem when creating a Form with Launch Task Form Wizard

    Hi all,
I'm using jdeveloper 11.1.1.6 over Windows 7 64bits for my BPM project.
I'm a new with BPM and i have a problem when trying to create a task's Form with the "Launch Task Form Wizard". I'm trying to create my Form based on a custom template, i already have imported the template as a library, now after i have selected the template i follow the wizard and i reach the wizard's rowX-columnX where i should choose the field i want in my form, but the problem is that i don't see any fields in that part of the wizard, the window is empty :(
I have created a business object based on a XSD, then i created a process data object based on the previous created business object and finally i used this data object as a parameter to the human task.
What could be my problem ?? :( :(
    Regards
    Carlos

I have also faced this issue few times. There could be a namespace issue / schema issue. Please check if you are able to see task:task in the schema section anywhere in the .task file you created. If that is not shown, the fields will not appear while creating human task form.
    Thanks

  • With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?

With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?
I have developed a form with fields hidden by default, that become visible based on box ticked or radio button selections.
My problem is that, when I close the form and re-open it, it comes back to it's default presentation, regardless of the information already recorded in the form (including in the now hidden fields.
    How to correct that
Thanks in advance for any hint you can provide.

I've had the same problem. This solved it...
Go to the "Form properties..." in the File-menu. Select "Run-time" to the left and in the box "Scripting" Preserve scripting changes to form when saved: choose Automatically (Script-based state changes are saved locally in an insecure fashion. This option cannot be used for certified forms).
Hope it works for you to...

  • Creating a test using the form wizard

I need to create a multipart test that will be used for editors applying for jobs. Part of the test will be a multiple choice spelling test, with 20 questions. I created the file in Word and am trying to use the form wizard to create check box fields. It looks like this:
    1.
    initative
    intiative
    initiative
    enitiative
I want the blanks to the left of each word to be a check box field or a radio button.
When I created the pdf form and saved it, I found that when I checked any one of the boxes, all four check box fields were automatically filled in. I know I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure out what.
Do these forms have to be created in one session? Or can I save the form, close it and then contune editing the form fields later?
I am using Acrobat Pro 9.5
Any advice anyone can provide would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    dg

I have gotten the hang of creating check boxes and radio buttons so that they behave the way I need them to behave. Thanks for the help on that.
I create these tests 2X per year and each test is to be used at least 500 times.
Here's my next apparent dilemma: I am creating this test in Acrobat Pro 9.5. The test takers are in three different cities in India. They use Reader X.
When I "distributed" a test of the only section I have completed to myself I discovered all of the distribution mechanisms (saving to a network folder, distributing via email, etc.). All of these options are far too complicated for my users.
Isn't there a way to create a form in Pro 9.5 that can just be saved with Reader X enabled so that anyone who opens the file in Reader X can just "save as" and have their filled-in data saved? I must emphasize that the saving process must be as simple as possible.
I need to keep this as simple as possible because I distribute these tests once and they are used over and over and the completed tests are collected by HR people who are not tech savvy at all. They are emailed to me from the three diffferent locations.
Previously I used Word but frankly there were two many ways people could cheat: That's why I want to switch to Acrobat forms. But this is looking like it's not going to work.
    Perhaps I am missing something?

  • Form wizard only works on first page

I can't seem to get the form wizard to convert a pdf document on anything more than the first page. The wizard runs and the first page works fine, but there are no form fields included on any of the remaining pages. What am I doing wrong?
