    Description:
When reading and writing CD+R, everything works perfect. And Reading DVD also working perfect. The problem is while Writing DVD+R, DVD+RW and Erasing DVD+RW. When using burning software or the windows in-built burning, at the end it shows reading error. And While erasing also same problem. In the DVD, there are only some dark circles/lines with gap and doesn't look like normal written DVDs.
Steps tried out (but in vain)
    1. Used different burners
    2. Used Superblank
    3. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Chipset drivers
    4. Formatted the whole HDD and Reinstalled OS
Please Help! Actually where is the problem? And how to fix it?

If you have an upgrade disc, then you can do a clean install as long as there is a Windows OS on the drive.
I have also done a clean install form an upgrade disc to on a new drive and it still works.

  • How to erase DVD-Ram disk

I have a half dozen DVD-Ram disks (from my now-dead DVR). They mount on the Desktop and I can see the contents (VRO and associated files). I am exploring the various Toast, Streamclip (etc.) options to play/rescue the files. Once that is done, how can I erase (and rewrite/reuse) the disks? Neither Toast 8 nor Disk Utility seem happy with formatting/erasing this media. Any ideas?

Ah,... makes sense. Thanks! And here's what it says [below].
So, it seems to say I cannot "erase" ... but I can "overwrite" (??), which is splitting a hair finer would have occurred to me.
Okay. Then, how would I "overwrite" the files -- what application could I use to do this? Toast? Other??

  • Optical drive no longer mounts blanks after erasing dvd-rw

hi, hopefully someone can help with this -
new macbook pro (couple months old)
i've used the optical drive twice, to burn onto a couple maxell dvd+rw discs - this worked fine.
today, i put one of the discs i'd previously used in, hit "erase" in disk utility ...
since then, the drive won't mount or recognize any blank media ... (the drive just hums for a bit, then nothing)
i tried the erased DVD-RW disc in another mac, it mounted fine - so the problem's not the discs ....
the optical drive seems to mount old data DVD-R's, authored DVDs, and CD's just fine ... but it now won't mount any blank media at all (whether CD-R, DVD-RW, or DVD-R)
weird - it's like erasing a DVD+RW has somehow wiped the drive's ability to mount fresh, blank discs...
is it possible the erase operation busted something in the drive ... maybe that kind of operation uses part of the hardware mechanism that only affects the reading of blank media ? or could this be a software problem?
i tried resetting pram and repairing perms, this had no effect.
here's the spec of the optical drive :
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875:

    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

ok, just to add to this -
i made a small install of OSX.5.2 (from the MBP install disc) on a FW drive, and booted from that - and lo and behold, blank media is recognized ...
... so this points to a software problem ...

  • Raptor format/erase error

    Hi all. I can´t format/erase my new Raptor WD1500ADFD disk. I have a new MacPro 2.66.
Theres no problems formating/erasing my other 7200 disks.
I just gets input/output error messages. Is there a known problem with this configuration?
    Please help
    Per
    MacPro 2.66   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    hi,
I've received a new raptor 10k 150go... The guy from the apple store came to get it functional in the MP... So he does what he has to do and then we go to reboot and... nothing... :s
Just a really weird sound from the optical drive "trrr tec... trrr tec... trrr tec...". Black screen... So the dude tries many diferent things before saying, "we'll have to put a new OS in that..." He launches the instal and goes away... After disk one installation, reboot and... nothing... same symptoms...
Forced reboot and finished installation. Still no reboot... The system turns off and on fine but seems unable to REboot...
    No other problems noted but, hey ! That's a 4k€ computer ! Common !
The reason I'm posting this here is that the boss from the store came today and said "that must be some problem with the SATA & the raptor... seems that it doesn't give the correct answer when asked to reboot... Let's hope this will be fixed in 10.4.9.".
I'm not sure about that... What would you say ?
He told me to instal MAC OS to the stock drive (WD 7200 caviar 250) and see if that changes anything (after extracting the raptor from the system...).
    thx for your replies

  • How do I format a DVD copy for multi-zone or Zone 1?

How do I format a DVD copy for multi-zone or Zone 1?
Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.3
I have to send a DVD copy to a festival. They need it formatted for multi-zone or for Zone 1 (North America). How can I make sure it's formatted like that?

I don't claim direct experience with that, but I *believe* (as in "I could be wrong, but")  that if you burn a DVD from inside FCP X, the program will take a clue from the frame rate of your project: a 25fps project will produce a PAL DVD, a 29.97 will do NTSC.

  • Can't erase DVD-RW anymore

My MBP is refusing to erase DVD-RW discs anymore. I'm running 10.5.2 and it last worked (on this specific disc) under 10.5.1.
I've tried erasing a couple of discs, using both Disk Utility (quick and complete) and Disco. It appears to work properly, but it never finishes and comes up with the "You've inserted a blank disc" anymore. And when I go to the finder and click back on the disc, the original files are still there. I've also tried it before and after a full reboot with no joy.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried Toast? I use it regularly to transfer files to and from work. I rarely have problems erasing a DVD-RW. I have Toast 8. Go to the Recorder menu in the application, insert the disk you want to erase and then select Erase after the disk mounts. If you pick "Quick Erase" you must use Toast to burn the data for the next use.

  • Trouble erasing DVD+RW

Has anyone else had trouble erasing DVD+RW media (or any rewritable media for that matter)? I have been trying to recycle a disk that I used to store iPhoto pics on but Disk Utility would not erase it. It pretended to do so then when I re-inserted the disk it still had all of the original data on it. I tried Quick Erase as well as Full Erase with the same results. I then tried erasing a CD-RW and ran into the same problem. Nearly exasperated I tried it with the CD-RW again and it worked. I backed up some iPhoto pics to the CD-RW then I figured I would try the DVD+RW again. Miraculously it worked this time.
Does anyone have a clue as to what might be happening?

  • Moving to UK from Canada: Will format 1 DVDs work on Macbook from UK store?

    Hello,
I am going to be moving to London, and I understand that the DVDs there are a different format than the ones in North America. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether my old DVDs will work on a Macbook purchased from the UK Apple store. I know some DVD players play all DVD formats from around the world, but I was curious if a UK Macbook would only play format 2 or format 1 as well.
    Thanks!

    good grief! pay attention please.
Er, strikes me that you should. As far as anyone here knows OP doesn't even have a MacBook yet, or indeed any kind of Mac. He/she doesn't say so. Just to clarify I've marked the salient points in bold.

  • Disk Utility will not format/erase/partition an unformatted scsi disk

Well, I'm back with a RAID problem again. This time the powers that be sent me a Sun Microsystems StorEDGE A5200 RAID box (22 33gig disks). It's a fibre channel system, and is full of Seagate FC disks. The box only hooks up to my G5 Quad via the Apple Fibre channel card that I have hooked up. It's a dual channel card and both are plugged into the back of the RAID array.
    Now, here's what I have.....
The Drives show up in both Disk Utility and Anubis
The is only one drive formatted and it works fine.
All the rest of the drives are unformatted (not just blank, but without any operating system on them, just like they were fresh out of the box)
Attempting to Erase a disk results in the message

Only one disk in the array is formatted and it will respond to all of the functions in Disk Utility.
I was told that I needed to do something using the command line, but that was pretty vague as to what I needed to do. Apparently I need some sort of superuser authority to get these drives formatted, and that's it's not documented any where.
So folks, I leave it up to you again, what do I do?

OK, I have found out much in the last few weeks.
1 - Apple no longer supports SCSI, you may not format disks in any way using OS X. OS 9 also does not work on any of the G5 machines at least.
2 - You can use Linux to do most of the work with SCSI, it is still supported, although there is little clear documentation on how to get it done. Linux is free and works very well with my G5 Quad. But it has a steep learning curve and it's not worth it for just formatting SCSI drives.
What I found out about my SCSI drives turned out to be the core of all the problems I have had, and it was Linux that found the problem. Seems all of the drives I have but one have been formatted in such a way that only the proprietary operating system that formatted them would read them. 520k data blocks. I reformatted several of the drives to 256k blocks and they work fine now.
Before I go out and start going though this for a few hundred more of these drives, my academic supplier found just as many drives that were specifically formatted for use in Sun RAIDs and are properly recognized by OS X, and with twice the drive space (current is 36gig, new ones are 73gig). He is sending me 44 of them (and a second RAID box)
I'm hoping that this finally solves the problem and hope all will be working soon.

  • Output to NTSC format for DVD

    Hi,
I am from the UK, I filmed some DVCAM footage in PAL format, but bringing it into FCP to output onto NTSC and onto DVD for a Canadian conference / Broadcast.
Can i simply change my project and capturing settings to
get the footage to run at NTSC (even though it was filmed in PAL?)
And if i want a UK edit of the film do I need to recapture all my clips at PAL settings or can this be done via the DVD output???
    cheers
    Chris

Sadly no its not that simple not so much because the image sizes differ but more because of the difference in frame rates.
Your options after you input edit and master in PAL
Convert to NTSC using a transfer house
Convert to NTSC using Compressor (can be slow)
Convert to NTSC using Nattress' plug-ins (will cost you money but they work)
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
Convert to NTSC using JES Deinterlacer (free and works)
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html#DEI
This will give you an NTSC Master to compress for DVD

  • Best Recording Format for DVD's ?

I'm recording 60+ minute footage to eventually transfer to DVD - we use this for our business and it must be DVD.  I'm using iMovie and iDVD.  I understand DVD's are not HD, but the problem is that the final product is not very good - pixilated.  Would it look better to record in SD instead of HD?  I use a newer Sony and it has an HQ option. Would this make the final product, as seen on DVD, look better?
On the other hand, am I missing something in iMovie or iDVD?
    Thank you!

    Hi
    There are two things
    • DVD is as standard - interlaced SD-Video
Feeding it HD - will not improve but degrade the picture as down-scaling function is not good
Using iMovie'08 to 11 - makes things even worse - as non of them can deliver 1090% interlaced SD-Video any way known to me to iDVD. They discard every second line - resulting in a severe quality loss.
    So
    • Recording in  full SD-Video quality - streamingDV - and
    • using iMovie HD6 or FinalCut (any version)
    • Keeping all in same frame rate - PAL to PAL or NTSC to NTSC
    • High quality DVD brand - I use Verbatim (only)
    • DVD-R - as they play on more and even older DVD-players
    • Pro Quality encoding
    • Burn Speed - set down to x2 or x4 (less burn errors)
    • minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk (others do not count)
    • all audio in .aiff - NO .mp3 or other exotic formats
Will result in best possibly DVD
    Yours Bengt W

  • Dual format on dvd

    FCP5.1.4
Would like to create dual format for one dvd. 4:3 and 16:9
Small still slide show of about 60 jpeg pictures.
Not sure how to approach this. Set up two seperate sequences- one for 4:3 and the other 16:9? Then compress for DVD studio Pro?
Or just import slides into Studio Pro and not use FCP?
    Suggestions?
    Steve

Pictures were shot with a digital camera in 4:3 format or at least when I imported them into a 4:3 preset sequence, they appear to be correct.
My thought was that if I used FCP correctly I could upconvert them to 16:9 and make them look like wide screen correctly as well. Then I saw DVDSP slideshow function and tested the waters to see if anyone had done this using DVDSP.
FCP is nice but time consuming.

  • Understanding Mac OS Extended format for DVD media

I am typically burn my files and folders on the Desktop. The reason I do this is that I hope the files will be readable on both a Mac and a PC. They seem to be do that just fine. But it was not until today that I noticed that these DVD's end up being formatted as "Mac OS Extended" even though Windows XP with Service Pack 3 can read them just fine. But I also have an older DVD that was burned the same way and also says it is formatted in the "Mac OS Extended" format. But that DVD is not readable on my PC even though it is readable on my Macbook. I am trying to understand if something changed in the Mac operating system that changed with this format. I am also trying to understand the Mac OS Extended format and primarily what is the BEST way to burn a DVD that works on a PC and a Mac.
Thank you for any help you might be able to offer.
    Garry

On the Mac, it says the format of the DVD is Mac OS Extended but when you run it on WIndows XP with SP3, it says the DVD is formatted as UDF (Universal Disc Format) which I think is interesting because I burned several DVD's on my PC in the UDF format version 2.5, which is the latest, but the Mac OS could not read them. So it must be an older version of UDF Apple is using or some type of custom format that Apple uses.
