Format FLASH Drive Problem

Hi everyone,
when i tried to clear config i formatted the FLASH drive accidentally in the Boot Loader Menu.
============================================================
Boot Loader Menu
============================================================
1. Run primary image (Image not found) - Active
2. Run backup image (Image not found)
3. Change active boot image
4. Clear configuration
5. Format FLASH Drive
6. Manually update images
with selecting 5. item and obviously wireless lan controller does not open properly. By the way it is a 5508
Could I fix this problem? How I am gonna fix this problem?

well normally with the WLC you don't interrupt the boot sequence when you want to clear the config.
You do it from inside the software itself, clear config command at the CLI.
With the WLC we do not have access to the underlying OS, like you would with a router or switch

Steve

  • MDT 2012 Deployment by USB Flash Drive Problems

To test MDT, I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 Enterprise trial to a new ASUS x44H laptop via USB key and not use the network for anything until it needs to join the domain.  I have copied the media files (about 4 gigs of data including Windows 7 -64bit
WIM, drivers, applications etc. ) to a bootable USB key and booted the computer and have seen problem after problem.
It boots fine from the key, but the first issue I see is that it that a prompt pops up asking for a deployment share by UNC path.  Why is it not looking at the USB key?.
I entered the path to the sever share and clicked next since it was defaulting to "X:\Deployment" and it would not continue if left as is.
It then needed domain credentials to the network share.  Again why does it want to look for the network at this point?  It should not need any credentials until Windows is deployed and it is joining the domain and I had domain credentials specified
    already in customsettings.ini.
How can I point it back to the USB key so it stops trying to use the network? I don't think the NIC driver is going to work until Windows is installed with the NIC drivers, because I see no lights flashing on the NIC port from just the WINPE boot from USB.
I entered the credentials anyway just to get past the screen.
Minor issue is that it renamed the PC as expected, but still showed a confirmation prompt instead doing it silently and moving on.
The next thing is that it said it needed a reboot and I allowed it and it booted back into the old Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system instead of formatting the drive and starting the install. I can't see any error messages or log of what
    happened.
If I force it to boot back into the USB key and start over it says there is a deployment already in progress in an unexpected state.
Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these issues?
I would like to make a deployment that runs with minimal prompts and using the USB as it's source for all the files it needs and not attempt to reach the network for anything until after Windows is installed along with all the drivers.

Like Imperfect1 told, the best way to do that is to:
create a new folder under "Out-of-Box Drivers" called "WinPE", import in that folder any drivers you need (network, mass storage, usb, etc...).
create a new "Selection Profile" called "WinPE Drivers" and select the previously created "WinPE" drivers folder.
in Media properties, under "Windows PE" tab, select your platform (x86 or x64) and select "WinPE Drivers" profile under "Drivers and Patches".
update media content and burn your ISO on a USB key
    It should work ;)

  • Lion External Hard Drive (and flash drive) problem

I recently installed Mac OS X Lion on my Macbook Pro. I plugged in my external hard drive and my computer recognized the HD and even let me access files on it. However, when I tried to copy a movie onto it, it gave me an error: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)." I decided to try a different file, the same thing happenned. I tried a USB flash drive and the same thing happenned. I checked the permissions for them and it says "you can read and write" so everything is fine there. If it helps the HD is formatted as "MS-DOS (FAT32)" and the USB stick is "MS-DOS (FAT16)".
I don't really know what to do because I have never had this problem on the same computer with Snow Leopard in the past (the only time I did was when the file was too big to copy onto it because of the formatting or something but it definetely isn't the case now).
    PLEASE HELP!

There might be a bug in the driver of the FAT-32 files systems. That is the likely cause, resolution, go for any free FAT-32 filesystem driver for mac. There is very less security feaures in FAT-32, and I am sure that the security messsagae is a red herring.
What you can possibly do is a unmount, and then a remount, manually.

  • IMac USB flash drive problem

My imac (os 10.6.8 2.5GHz i5) will not recognize my USB flash drive when I plug it into any port. Disk utility will not see it either. What do I do? I plug it into a friend's macbook  and it is readable and writable there with NO PROBLEM... what's up with

    Troubleshooting steps :
    - Turn iMac off (Leave Off)
    - Unplug Power Cord from Power Outlet or Back of iMac (Leave Unplugged)
    - Hold Power Button on Back of iMac for 10 Seconds (While Unplugged)
    - Let Go and Plug back in
    - Turn computer on and see if USB Stick now reads
    - If it doesnt read plug in other USB Port and restart iMac
    - Open Finder and see if its listed under devices as unknown or other name
    - If still unreadable (Try plugging in other USB Device)
    - If other USB Device reads fine then its something with USb Stick only
    Plan B:
    - Plug USB Stick onto other Macbook
    - Go to Disk Utility/Format USB Memory Stick as
    - Safely Remove and Plug into iMac (See If It Reads)
    - If still no read then your USB may not be readable with your Operating System or may be unreadable to the firmware specifically of that Operating system
    - Compare with other Macbook and see which Operating System version the other Macbook may be under ie. (Version 10.6.8 or 10.5.8) etc if its different then u may have to return item and try other brand
    - Try all the above and let me know

  • LG USB Flash Drive Problem

I have an LG 1GB USB Flash Drive, which has worked flawlessly for the last year or so. All of a sudden, just recently, it always takes two tries for it to mount. In other words, when it's inserted the first time it doesn't mount, but remove it and insert it again, and it mounts! I've reformatted it (Mac OS Extended), but it didn't help. I've also tried it on two other Macs, and it's the same thing. Any suggestions?

    Hi anybody,
I have a similar problem with a flash drive. I was just using it on a PC, properly disconnected it from there and then plugged it into a USB hub I have on my Mac. Now it's dead. No light on the flash drive, no drive recognition in system profiler or disk utility and it's also dead on PCs now too. If I could format it that would be one thing but nothing recognizes it now. The files on there weren't life or death but I'd like to get them back AND not have to just throw away the flash drive.
    Ideas??

  • How to format flash drive to be compatible with Mac and PC

Hey guys, I was stupid and formatted my 8G flash drive to a different format by accident. Not FAT32 which it was originally. It originally worked find with my Mac and PC. I can't get it back now. I went into Disk Utility and the only way I can format it back is to MS-DOS(FAT) and all the other Apple formats. When I erase it to MS-DOS(FAT) and plug it into my PC it comes up and wants to format it to a 200MB FAT32 patition?? How can I solve this? Thanks

    Hi,
FAT32 (called MS-DOS in OSX Disk Utility) is the file system to use for compatibility with Mac and PC.
The "200MB partition" message you get also indicates that you changed the partition scheme on the flash drive to GPT (GUID Partition Table).
Use Disk Utility to verify this and if needed change the partition scheme back to MBR (Master Boot Record).
    Regards

  • How do I change the desktop icon for an MS-Dos Fat formatted flash drive in Lion?

I have a bunch of flash drives I need to format for work, and we want to put our company logo as the icon for each drive.  We wanted to format them as MS-Dos Fat so that they'll be readable and writeable on both Mac and Windows computers.  But when I format them that way and change the icon, it displays as a generic preview JPEG image instead of the real image or even the default hard drive icon.
I managed to fix it so the icon will display properly in Snow Leopard, but in Lion the drive still mounts with the generic Preview thumbnail.
Is there any way I can easily format a flash drive so that a) it will be readable and writeable on Windows and OSX machines and b) have the icon for the drive appear correctly on Lion, Snow Leopard, and windows machines?
    Thanks!

Command- i will open the info pane of your icon.
Try opening and "selecting all" ⌘-A (of your preferred image,) then copy and paste your preferred image on the high-lighted icon in the upper left.

  • USB Flash Drive Problems

    Hi
I have found 2 problems when using USB flash drives. I have a 1GB USB drive that works fine on my iMac running OS X 10.4.7. However, when I delete files on the drive, my USB space capacity does not free up. I realised that what happens is the files deleted get moved into a ".trash" folder which is invisible. I try to delete this folder, but do not have access rights to do so. My only solution is to remove the USB drive and plug into a PC to delete the files. Is there any other way around this?
Second problem. I have another 4GB USB flash drive. Once plugged into my iMac, nothing is detected. In System Profiler, I can see the device listed, yet it cannot detect the device as a USB mass storage device thus I can't open the drive in Finder to perform any file transfers. I'm sure i have the latest software drivers updated. Again, when this device is plugged into a PC, it works perfectly fine. What can I do?
    Thanks
    G.

Sorry, I meant if it was seen under system profiler that you could mount it under disk utility.
Open disk utility up and if the drive is listed on the left source list, highlight it and click "mount" near the top of the disk utility window.
You should not have to do this and I do not know why the drive is not mounting by itself, but this is a possible workaround.

  • Copying files to flash drive problem... really weird

for some reason whenever i try to copy a folder that has a folder inside it to my flash drive or any flash drive, it says the folder already exists when infact it does not cause the drive was just formated many times.
Ex. drag folder named (photoshop) with folder (projects) inside, and some mp3s, it tells me that folder projects is already there... and copys the mp3s fine..
    Whats causing this error ?

    mh434 wrote:
I've looked at dozens of complaints about this, spanning several years, but I haven't found a solution.
I have a complilation of songs on my PC (Win7 64) on iTunes (version 11.1.5.5).  I've been trying to find a way to copy my favorite playlist & contents to a memory card or flash drive.
Every piece of advice I've seen says to highlight, drag, and drop from iTunes into the other drive.  Of course, there ARE no external drives visible in iTunes.  It doesn't recognize any non-Apple devices or drives.  So, drag n' drop is impossible.
So, I thought I'd try to do it outside of iTunes.  Nope - all of my music files on my PC are linked to iTunes...when I try to locate any of my music, iTunes automatically launches, and no other drives are accessible.
So, I thought I'd try exporting my favorite playlist & contents.  However, nowhere can I find out if this will delete the playlist in iTunes at the same time (which, obviously, I don't want to do, as I'd lose the music on my iPad and iPhone at the next synch).
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Mike
    Mike,
Arrange your screen so that iTunes is open in half the screen, and the folder representing the flash drive is open in the other half.
Highlight the tracks you want in iTunes.  Drag them from there to the open folder.

  • Formatting Flash Drive

I am wanting to format one of my flash drives so that a PC can read a file created on my Mac. (I'm using Leopard OS X 10.5.6.) Disk Utility is not offering Fat 32. There are 4 offerings for Mac OS Extended and one for Mac OS Standard. Is there a work-around for this?
    Thank You!
    Judie

A new flash drive will be Fat 32 formatted when you buy it.
If you haven't changed the format with Disk Utility to a Mac only format you will be fine.
Quick check by attaching the Flash drive and selecting it in Disk Utility ~ the format will show bottom left.

  • How to format flash drive

Hi, if I copy a movie to a flash drive formatted in Mac OS extended, can it be read by a computer running Windows? The drive is 64 GB and is currently formatted with FAT32, but I need larger file size for movies.
    Thanks

Thank you, that is clear! Just to be complete, is there any advantage in partitioning the drive (since it's large enough)  into one volume Mac OS and the other exFAT?

  • Flash drive problem

Ok so the other day, I put my flash drive in and do what I need to do. I go to eject it and it won't eject. I tried doing it in finder and on the desktop, neither way worked. I had to be somewhere so I just took it out without ejecting. So then a few days later I notice that finder still says my flash drive is there, naturally when I clicked it said no content. The icon isn't on the desktop though. I just reinserted my flash drive and it still shows up in finder, but still says no content, but it didn't pop up on my desktop.
I was also having problems with it recognizing my ipod. One last thing, I tried to click "about this mac" to figure out my right version of OS X, but nothing would come up. I got it December 2006 though. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Hi memanzo
When a USB memory drive won't eject, it's normally because the computer is still writing information to it. All write requests to the device are queued up and they carry on in the background while you're getting on with something else. This is because the devices are quite slow compared to the hard disc. Once all queued up writes have finished, you can eject the device.
If you do pull out a device without properly ejecting it then the remaining queued up writes can't happen and the device may be corrupted. I recommend you use Utilities/Disk Utility to test its file system integrity before trying to store any more information on it. If it is corrupted then use the same utility to reformat it.

  • [Solved] Failed to format flash drive after recent update(3/6/2013)

    Hello,
I'm experiencing failure at formatting my flash drive to ext2,3,4, fat32(or possibly any possible format).
This happens after the recent system update which includes filesystem, I wonder if that's the reason.
    So I followed the instructions here : https://www.archlinux.org/news/binaries … ervention/
and I start to fail at formatting my flash drive using mkfs, while mkfs on live CD 2013.05.01 works perfectly.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I once had a very odd occurrence that - being an isolated incident - I still don't really understand.  But it seemed no matter what I did I could not erase data from a flash drive.  I'd dd from /dev/zero, reformat, put it on a different computer, and it'd indeed be empty.  But then when I plugged it back in to my computer it showed up as populated with a bunch of files that used to be on it.
It seemed like there must have been a filesystem created on my own harddrive that was being mounted to the mount point when the usb drive was detected - so what I was seeing wasn't really on the usb, but was on my drive.
I don't know if it is possible to accidentally format a mount point rather than a device - I would think it should fail, but I can't help but wonder if something like that is going on: when the usb is plugged into your machine, the locally created filesystem is being mounted, but when you plug the usb into another computer, it's obviously not there.
Some steps that may avoid whatever could cause this:
    1) reboot to have a fully fresh start.
    2) make sure any automounting utilities are disabled
    3) partition/dev/sdX and format /dev/sdXn as usual
    4) sync, to ensure all disk io is flushed.

I tried Toshiba USB Flash Drive some other computers also but it cant response in any case.
Is there any way to solve the problem and get my documents back. It did not damage or break.
    thank you..

    Hi
Usually if the HDD would start to malfunction then the data on this HDD are not more accessible and in most cases you cannot backup this data to any other place.
Of course there are many specialists and companies who could retrieve and could save the data from damage HDDs but this is very expensive procedure and dont think its worth to spend a lot money for private data..
However, you can get in contact with an local ASP (Toshiba authorized service partner) if your Toshiba product start to malfunction and is covered by warranty..
