What format do movies have to be to use in iMovie 08?
AppleMan and Patrick have basically covered the import/capture formats. However, if you are importing files at the Finder level, then DV (DV audio with DV video), DV25, DVCPRO25, DVCPRO50, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 are probably the ones most commonly used. For audio -- DV, Linear PCM (Big Endian & Little Endian) , and AAC are probably the ones most used. NOTE: Avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video files. They will import and edit but will not export properly.

  • Formats for movie clip used in PSE 4 slide show

    Still finding it difficult to find documentation of what formats are supported for using digital camera movie clips in PSE 4 slide show.
    The movie file from my Canon camera is 640 x 480, 30 fps Motion JPEG and has a .AVI extension. I am able to use it "as is" in a PSE 4 slide show. However, sometimes I need to trim the movie clip in Windows Movie Maker 2 in order to keep only the best part.
    My question is what parameters can I specify to save my movie clip in Movie Maker 2 so that I can use it as a movie clip in a Photoshop Elements 4 slide show that will be saved as a WMV file?

    Karin Sue,
    >Also, are the projects saved in a folder somewhere, or only as part of the Catalog?"
    The definition of the "project", which is the "Creation" in Organizer terms is saved only in the Catalog.
    >If you publish your creation as a pdf or wmv they are saved in the folder you designate. Once published, I don't believe there is any way to edit. If you save the creation, you can go back and edit and republish if you like.
    Yes, the WMV or PDF file is saved in the folder that you designate. You are correct that if you save the Creation, you can go back and re-edit. When you Save the Creation gets a thumbnail within the Organizer photo well and you can click on the thumbnail to go back in to the Creation process make modifications and save a new WMV or PDF file.
    Note: that the Save window documents that the PDF choice does not support some options such as Pan and zoom, videos, and certain transitiions.

    In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
    Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
    Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

  • Date formats for SQL statements used by recordset object

    Hi,
    Date formatting appears to be quite problematic for Business One.  I did a forum search for date issues and I don't think I saw any of them with an "answered" status.  I have an issue with formatting a date for the creation of an SQL statement that the DI sends to SQL Server 2005.  I need to format a date so that the localization parameters don't matter for either the client machine or SQL Server's machine.  We don't have a problem as long as our machines are localized as USA.
    I have PL 22 and I have a form - ours - where I use the Today() function to fill a date field.  So this is a date that is not entered by the user.  The result of this function is consistent with the localization parameters on my machine.  We have two other date fields on the form where the user must type in the date.
    As a test, I changed my machine to the UK parameters.  I then set up the language parameters of Business One for English(United Kingdom).  I changed the date format specifications in Business One so that its format is dd/mm/yy.  I then brought up the form and the field that is formatted by the above function arrived in the form's field as dd/mm/yy.  I then typed in the two other dates in the same format and added the record to the database.  The form's table is user-defined.
    I dismissed the form then brought it back up loaded with the new record.  The date that was entered by the function appeared in USA format (mm/dd/yy).  The dates that were typed in appeared in the Business One format (dd/mm/yy).  This of course is not consistent.
    When I looked at what got into the database, the formats were the opposite.  Weird!  To make matters really confusing, I run an SQL statement within SQL Server Mgt Studio, and use the WHERE clause to filter on the date that was based on the function.  It didn’t matter what format I used for the WHERE clause, the record came up.  Does anyone have any idea about how I can ensure that I always use the correct date format for SQL statements passed by Business One to SQL Server regardless of where in the world the application is being run?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Ian,
    Here's what I'm concerned about:  I’m using the date in a “WHERE” clause.
    Assume the date is Aug 3, 2007.
    "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE StartDate > ‘8/3/2007’"
    OR
    "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE StartDate > ‘3/8/2007’"
    If the client machine is set up as USA, the today function will provide the date as formatted in the first query.  If the database server is setup as let’s say the UK, I believe that SQL Server query parser will interpret the date as Mar 8, 2007.
    If the client machine is set up as UK, the today function will provide the date as formatted in the second query.  If the database server is setup as let’s say USA, I believe that SQL Server query parser will also interpret the date as Mar 8, 2007.
    In both cases it would be wrong.
    I know I could use the DATEPART function to get the three parts and this will make the code indifferent to the localization specs of the client machine.  I need to then be able to concatenate those date parts for the “WHERE” clause so that the localization specifications of the database server don’t matter.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Correct Format For Movie File

    Hello,
    I am in the process of transferring old family film footage to digital files. The company I'm taking these reels to is recommending that I put them on an external hard drive in .mov format. They say that this will allow me to edit with iMovie. Your thoughts?
    Also, at the present time when I upload my point and shoot Nikon camera and also when I upload my iPhone and iPad, the movie clips are loaded into iPhoto also along with the photos. Will I have the option to do this with these new files?
    Regards,
    Tom

    You would need to consult the documentaion for the device you're using. You should be able to find it on the manufacturer's website.

  • Format for Movies

    I was wondering what format I needed to have the movie in for it to work on a DVD. I tried .AVI and went through iDVD and it played the intro part but not hte movie itself. I was wondering if it had to be in a certain format.

    DVD uses MPEG-2 Compression.

  • Format for PDF lost using MSP 2013 Pro

    Hi. I'm trying to save as PDF and I set the view in the project to be a certain size i.e. 1 p wide by 3 p high but when I save as PDF that formatting is lost.  My 3 page document comes out as 20 pages etc. I've tried printing a hard copy and then running
    save as again without success.  How do I set the view I want when the PDF is created? I've also tried exporting - same results.

    Yep 365 is always up to date. Personally I have found the pdf function in Project to be poor for the very reason you have stated. So I still use one of the free pdf printer drivers. That way I get what I want.
    I also create a view called Gantt Chart Print PDF.
    I set it up so it shows the data I want printed and has all the correct printing settings, such as A3 etc. To print I select this view, then print. To continue working and preserve my printer settings I return to the Gantt Chart.

  • MB Pro & External Hard Drive - Best format for Mac/Windows use?

    My external hard drive is currently formatted as FAT 32. I need to use it between Mac and Windows. However, I have many files that are 4 GB or larger.
    Should I reformat as HFS? Will that at least be readable on Windows?
    I thank you in advance for any thoughts.

    There's no really good choice.
    Regardless of the filesystem you choose, you will need additional software to read/write it on one of the operating systems. MacDrive for Windows will permit you to read/write HFS+ formatted volumes on Windows -- it's $50. MacFuse + NTFSng allows Mac OS X to read/write NTFS formatted drives -- it's free, but a little awkward.

  • Best format for Airdisk (mostly used to back up a PC)?

    I run a network with both a PC and a Mac (and an Airport Extreme, non-gigabit version). I have a new hard drive whose main function will be to back-up the PC. (I have a firewire drive to which I back up the Mac, no firewire port on the PC.) While backing up the PC is the main function of the new drive, I'd like to be able to use it as an Airdisk that can be accessed by both computers as well. So, a few questions:
    1. I understand that if I format the disk as HFS+, the PC will be able to write to it, because it is a networked drive. However, is that a good idea if it will be primarily used for the PC? I assume that FAT32 is a non-starter, as my backup program may create files larger than 4 GB.
    2. Is using Airdisk for this function a good idea at all? The PC is wired to the Airport Extreme, but I assume that, even so, this will be slower than connecting the drive directly to the PC.
    3. Is this a case where gigabit ethernet would make the copying faster, or is that unrelated to this issue?

    1. HFS+ will work fine but you will not be able to connect the drive directly your PC using USB (unless you install some additional software on your PC that will make it read HFS+ disks - can't remember the name of the utility that will help you do that).
    2. Any USB drive used as Airdisk will be significantly slower compared to connecting it directly to your PC. Expect to get 6-7 MB/sec read/write speed when used as Airdisk. USB drives connected directly to your PC may be able to read/write 20-30 MB/sec. If it is good idea to use Airdisk for backup very depends on how much data you backup. Is it 500 MB or 30GB daily. If it is less than a few GB daily then the Airdisk is fine for backup.
    3. Gigabit Ethernet will not make your Airdisk much faster then the speed listed above.
    If you do only plan to use the disk for backing up your PC then I will suggest that you connect it directly to your PC. However, if you need a shared disk where you can access files that you want to use on your Mac as well as on your PC (fx. music, video, photos etc.) then Airdisk is great for that.
    You can get a 500 GB USB disk today for around $125, so you may consider to buy an extra one and add that as Airdisk for sharing files and then use your current disk for backup only.

  • Which format for External HD using Mac OSX Windows Xp, and Vista?

    Hi
    I've had problems with using an extermal HD and am looking for some further information...
    I have recently purchased a 500 g external iomega hard drive. I need it to be compatible with my mac using osx, and with pc's using both Windows XP and vista. I will routinely be needing to transfer files from all three platforms.
    I had reformatted my hard drive to FAT32 on the pc using windows xp and it worked fine, then took it home and used in on my mac, and it is now no longer recognized on the pc.
    The HD is under disk manager is showing that it is formatted as FAT32 but I cannot use the drive. I cannot download programs to use on the PC's to make the drive compatible but could on the mac.
    What are my best options to share files reliably?
    Thanks

    Add NTFS write support to Mac OS instead.
    MacFUSE +3G is a good start.

  • Best format for future AppleTV use?

    I have EyeTV 200 and I've recorded some TV shows. I've recorded them as MPEG-4 standard. If I export them to QuickTime H.264, yielding the smallest file, will I be able to view them with AppleTV once I buy one in the future? Or should I export them with the AppleTV setting which give bigger files? Thanks.

    i have ipod preset .m4v that do play on Apple TV. The resolution of all my .m4v for the ipod was 640x480 or slightly smaller on some. They look ok but not great on a plasma 42 inch TV. My son did not like the slightly stretched heads.
    So now I'm using mpeg H264 ate 854x480 ie Apple TV preset but not HD because I don't have any HD video files...yet. these look just like or slightly better as if you werewatching a DVD movie. The downside is the file size.
    ipod .m4v file size was avr 1.3 gigs and Apple TV non-HD avr size is 4.7 gigs. 500 gig hard drive is not going to be big enough in the long run.

  • How do I create a play button for movie clip using AS3

    Hello.
    Bit new to this and have been searching the adobe forums and google. I am trying to create a button that will play an imported MovieClip.
    I have a movie clip that I've imported into it's own layer (Layer1) Frame 1.  I've given the MovieClip an instance name of foundationMovie.
    I've created a button and have that on its own layer(Layer2) above layer1, it is also in Frame 1.
    I've added a
    stop (); action to layer2
    The video is not set to autoplay.
    I want the video to start playing when the viewer clicks the button.  I know I've got to put some kind of event listener using AS3 in my timeline somewhere.
    I've found some code and I've been trying to work with it.  I'm sure I've mutilated it beyond usability but this is what I've got.
    stop ();
    player.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,play);
    function play(event:MouseEvent)
    gotoAndPlay("foundationMovie");
    If someone could point me the right direction or help me with my code I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

    First, you need to clear up what you are working with... a movieclip and a video are usually entirely different things.
    Next, your code may get you started on your way with some changes.   You shouldn't use "play" as a function name due to there already being a play() method/function in Flash.
    If the movieclip is a movieclip and has an instance name of "foundationMovie", and your button has an instance name of "player" then the following adjusted code would normally work...
    stop ();
    player.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,playMovie);
    function playMovie(event:MouseEvent)
         foundationMovie.play();

  • Updating Video IPod Once Formatted for Windows, Now Using Mac

    The subject pretty much explains it all. I'm trying to update my ipod to the latest software version, but when I attempt to update it, it says that it can't be updated because the Ipod is already formatted to Windows.
    What should I do about this situation?
    Thanks

    i do not set to auto update. I see no real point in having 2 hard drives full of the same music. I have backed up my MP3s on 4 dvd's. I like to keep my hard drive clear for other projects.
    There are tools to bring the songs back off the ipod. Maybe I'll let that run over night. The TV shows I purchased were on the windows machine. Maybe they will be lost forever.
    I guess I won't be installing this update anytime soon.

  • Is there  a format for movies that is similar to PNG files

    I am new to much of the formats of animation.  I want to create an animation that has a invisible background so if I play it on a page that has a background the background wll appear where the animation is not.  I have a webpage that has a gradietn and ineed the image to remain having the same background.

    Short version: There is no such thing. Long version: Transparency is an illusion and up to how the client (your browser) is able to interpret specific file formats. just like, in theory, it could just ignore transparencies in GIFs or PNGs, without the playback routine having specific prerequisites there wil lnever be transparency. That being said, your only option at this point is Flash video (FLV), but even then rendering it out from AE with transparency is jsut half the equation. You still need a proper Flash video player embedded in your web page and need to instruct it by ways of parameters in the surrouinding JavaScript code (FlashVars) to actually use transparency as well as hide its player skin. So before you even start, properly research that part. it's not by any means a simple solution just in AE. and on a sidenote, of course nothing stops you from foregoing transparency and adding a piece of your background to the video to create the illusion...
