Format incompatible

Hi everybody,
I've a problem with DVD Studio Pro.
I've edited a documentary in HDV with FCP and exported it in HDV.
Then I've opened it with QuickTime and downconvertd it to PAL SD with black bars on top and bottom to maintain the aspect ratio.
If I try to import this DV PAL into DVD Studio Pro it says "Format Incompatible" but the setteings of the project are correct: PAL 4:3.
If I have a HDV project and try to import the HDV export it works perfectly...
Does anyone can help me?
Thanks a lot
luk.

FWIW you can export using Compressor to 16:9 and st the track to letterbox, will play 16:9 on 16:9 TVs and letterboxed on 4:3 TVs.

What were the settings you used to export it from QuickTime (codec etc.) Could be something you did there changing things in the file. Also Compressor may be the better way to go rather than QuickTime

  • Rented HD Movie - Video cannot be played because format incompatible

Tonight rented HD movie American Rhapsody HD
    Download & autorisation ok
    When attempt to play
get this video cannot be played because format is incompatible
    with apple tv
    Have Apple tv ver 2.1
After many tries gave up and rented movie in regular format which woked fine
Will probably be double billed unless apple gets and responds to my messages
Why this problem. Have rented other HD movies no problem before
    Thanks

You can't watch any trailers at all from the purchase page, but you can play them all from the trailers page.
Your movie has completely downloaded but won't play and the tv reports it is in an unrecognised format.
    Correct.
I would have considered that you could have simply had your movie corrupted in some way during download if playing it was the only problem. I wouldn't have thought that the preview from the purchase/rental page would have been from the same source as the trailer page (but I could be wrong), which makes this rather strange.
Indeed. Previews on purchase page are in standard resolution and none of them play. Both HD and standard resolution cinematic trailers play no problem.
Do you have any issues playing your own content, podcasts or you tube.
I can play music, see photos, play audio and video podcasts (HD included). Youtube works too.
How is the tv connected to the internet, how is it connected to the tv.
The device is connected to the TV via HDMI cable and over wifi to internet.
Instead of just restarting it, have you tried pulling every cable from it leaving it for 30 seconds and then powering it up again.
This is exactly what I did when I restarted it.

  • Video not listing properly - format incompatible?

Question regarding working with video files in lightroom from digital camera...
Trying to find a workflow/format for converting videos from my digital camera (Canon 7d) and have these reside in lightroom.  So far I have not had any luck.
Out of the camera, files are in .mov format and h.264. I am surprised at the size of the files. An 71 second clip takes over 400 mb for 1080p. I have spend several days looking for software to compress or adjust this file with minimal luck, either due to software or resulting video being incompatible in lightroom (mainly the later).
Requirements are to keep format compatible with lightroom, minimal loss of quality (visually), reduced file size, and as universal a format as possible.
I have nero 8 and tried Vision (included video editng software). It allows me to emport to mp4 avc, mp2, mp1 and several other flavors. I have tried various adjustments. Results were file sizes between 80mb to 170mb, but with issues in lightroom 3 (not fully recognizing the video file), playback smoothness, jumping/navigating within clip (ie, jumping to 40 second mark, then back to 30 second), and questionable quality (though most looked identical to original).
I have also tried handbrake, Super encoder, Power Directory, Sony Vegas and several others, but no luck.
The original file, plays smoothly, allows me to jump forward and back smoothly, and in Lightroom shows correctly and with extra detail due to sidecar file from camera (exif data).
m4v out of handbrake shows fine in Lightroom with full preview.  Without original sidecar file, no exif is available (expected).  BUT, when playing the video, it is slow when skipping forward and back.
mpg layer 2, preview is very small in Lightroom and when playing it stutters
mp4 (multiple converters and few other formats) won't show in lightroom, get a triangle error saying "Lightroom has encountered problems reading photo" with no preview.
I like Power Directory, but it only exports 2 usable formats, mp4, which are not compatible with Lightroom (see above), and h.264 format in .m2ts container (definately not compatible with lightroom or many other programs).
Part of debugging this, I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled quicktime to see if that would resolve the preview issue in Lightroom (based on another post recommendation), but no luck.
Any suggestions on what to do next?

Well, I didn't think of doing that, but I tried it on Windows Media Player, it showed a complete duration of 18 minutes, but after the 3 minutes mark, the video stopped moving but the audio continued, just like in Media Player Classic, and I tried it on Quicktime, and again, it showed just the 3 minutes, exactly like Media Player Classic.

  • Audio formats incompatible in auto CD players

When I burn a CD of a playlist, the only format (codec) options is MP3 and "Audio CD". What is the default 'Audio CD' format? Is there any way of changing that format? Problem: One of my cars will play MP3 and not 'Audio CD', while the other car is exactly the opposite. This means I have to make 1 CD in each format. I want to find a format that will play in both.
Any ideas? First, I need to know what the default 'Audio CD' format is and if I can change that format.
    I am using iTunes 9.

Okay, I've been playing around and found a work-around. Instead of cutting the CD with iTunes, I converted the MP3 files to 'Audio CD' (cda) using dBpoweramp Music Converter and burned the CD using their writer. The results were as I expected. The CD's are now playing in both of my vehicles. Your comment Zevoneer, that Audio Cd's should play on ALL players led me to try this. A BIG THANK YOU for that Zevoneer! BTW, both players are also displaying each track song titles also, which never happened with the CD's burned on iTunes.
However, this still begs an answer as to why iTunes Audio CD is apparently not formatting properly. Is this an issue that Apple should be dealing with? How or who do I present the problem to?
    Thanks for your help!

  • DNG Format incompatible to Photoshop CS2 ?

Hello, I'm using since several years Lightroom beginng from the Version 1.0 to the actual Version 5.7.
Now I have a big problem with the DNG-Format. I export my photo files after developping as DNG.
Importing these DNG-Files to Photoshop (CS2 with ACR 3.7) was never a big problem.
Now several very important corrections are lost in Photoshop. For example the exposure correction.
    What has happened?
Thanks a lot for any helping answers
    Geo

Did you double check that you have the DNG export backwards compatible to ACR 3.7 (2.4 and later)?

  • Bitmaps pasted to Mail.app have tiff format incompatible with other mailers

Except with ctrl-cmd-shift-4, the forma of a pasted bitmap is tiff since tiff is the default system clipboard format. This is very unfortunate since Mail.app displays the bitmap (thus you think everything is alright) but most recipients (e.g. Thunderbird) get on screen a rectangle with a question mark.
I am surprised than Maill.app does not spontaneously convert the bitmap to a standard mail/html format like jpeg. To me this should be considered as a bug since it makes the use of Mail.app counter-intuitive.
Saving the clipboard contents to a jpeg file and then importing it to Mail.app as a workaround is both a pain and time consuming if you have do that very often.

most recipients (e.g. Thunderbird) get on screen a rectangle with a question mark.
Personally I consider not supporting tif display to be an important failing on the part of Thunderbird, but you can tell Apple how you think the clipboard should work here:

  • Outlook 2007 phone number format incompatible with...

I use MS Outlook to organise my E-mail, Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Notes, etc.
With Contacts, the Outlook format is for example:
    +00 (000) 0000000
Nokia PC Suite can recognise the above number while Nokia Ovi Suite cannot.
For example, in PC Suite, in Messages, the above Outlook format is recognised and assigned the correct name and other details.

outlook and the phone does synchronise, that is, the contacts from outlook synchronises with the contactsin the phone. the issue i have is with the Ovi Suite Messaging.
there are two types of contacts and the number format:
    1. contacts i added using the mobile phone and has the number format:
    +000000000000
    2. contacts i added using Outlook and has the number format:
    +00 (000) 0000000
in Ovi Suite Messanging, the names of the contacts using method 1, those added using the phone, appear. when the person sends a message, the software recocnises the number, associates the name and messaging thread
the contacts added using method 2, on the other hand, are not recognised by the software, and therefore appear as the number (+000000000000) rather than the name.
and so i have two messaging threads for every contact:
    1. a thread where i sent the text, because i used the number from Outlook. and its all sent messages
    2. a thread where i received the text because the Ovi Suite does not recognise the number +000000000000 because the number in the contact that was from outlook is +00 (000) 0000000
with Nokia PC Suite, the software associates the number with the contact from Outlook. so i would receive a message with +000000000000 and it would assign the correct contact with +00 (000) 0000000
will this get sorted? i like the concept of the Ovi Suite but its not very user friendly. now im tempted to get either a blackberry or iphone.

  • Hello.  How do I get my FCP sequence into DVD Studio Pro?  I've tried exporting as QT movie, then importing as  asset, am told format is incompatible.

Trying to get my HD sequence in FCP to burn to DVD.  How to accomplish this?  I export sequence as Quicktime movie, try to import as as asset, after a couple minutes a window says "format incompatible" or something to that effect.
Also, in FCP the canvas only shows timeline video when it's playing.  When stopped, blank screen -- how do I fix this?
    Many thanks.

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • CS5 "save as" format menu changed when creating new document

    Hi,
When creating a new document in photoshop CS5 i cannot save as a jpeg or png or the other large list of file types i used to have in the save as format menu,
below is what i used to be able to save as but can only do this when actually opening a jpeg file and not when creating a new document
this is the options i have now
i haven't been using photoshop that long and am no genius with pc's so i'm a little lost here, does anyone know why this has happened and if there is a solution to this, your help will be greatly appreciated. my spec are windows 7 64bit, core i7, nvidia 260gtx.

It looks as if you are creating documents in a format incompatible with certain file types.
For example, check in the New dialog that it is set for RGB Color – 8-bit.

  • Cannot open Pages 09' documents in Pages 08'

Just and FYI for everyone. If you save a Pages 09' document as a Pages 09' document you cannot open it up in Pages 08'. Keep this in mind if you are using the trial and decide not to upgrade.

Most of the files you create in Pages '09 won't use any new features so saving them in Pages '08 format doesn't lose anything and lets more people open the file.
In fact, every Pages '08 document that you open and save in Pages '09 becomes undeditable in Pages '08 +even if you did not edit/add anything+. That's just silly.
Most applications that have multiple versions with different file formats at least try to cause as little disruption as possible between users of different versions of the same application.
For example, in Adobe products you are asked each time you save if you want your file to be compatible with older versions. MS Office offers total control over format (described above) including the sense to save your file in the same format it was when it was opened (unless this is made impossible by the user including new features). Both companies also offer file translation utilities to let you open new files in older versions.
Both of these methods are superior to what happens in iWork because they allow you to use new features, but only save the file in a format incompatible with a previous version when it's unavoidable.
Working in Pages '09 and trying to ensure backward comaptibility with friends or collegues that you may need to share files with, is very painful: endlessly creating multiple copies of the same file (all with the same icon and file extension!)
I really like Pages, but this 'upgrade trap' is a real disincentive to upgrade and makes me think twice about telling people to try it.

  • Bitmap and shed images in HTML output

    Hi All,
I've recently switched my primary layout from WinHelp to HTML
Help to prepare for Vista. I'm using RoboHelp for Word X5.0.1.
Should I be worried about the shed load of small bitmap
images that exist throughout the project? It would certainly take a
long time to convert those to jpg or gif.
Also, my shed images are not being displayed in compiled
output (I get the little box with a "?" instead). Is the shed image
    format incompatible with HTML Help?
    Thanks,
    Jon

  • Problem of opening pages 2.0 document in Macbook pro

I have just downloaded ipad pages 2.0. I created a file and sent it by email, but it comes out as a pages.zip file and I cannot open it in pages 2009. What to do?

    No.
This is not a Version 2/Version 6 (your version) issue. The user had a prerelease version of InDesign which saved in a format incompatible with the release version, as a form of copy protection for beta users. If the person providing the file was a legitimate user of the prerelease version of InDesign 2, then they might be able to contact Adobe to solve this problem, but I highly doubt it.
Anyone who would have been a legitimate user of a prerelease version of InDesign is not likely to never have upgraded in over six years. The supplier of the file is likely a severe cheapskate using a bootleg copy.
Your best option may be to ask for a PDF and a packaged copy (with all linked files), then use that as a template to recreate the file.

  • Downgraded to Leopard from Snow, but now have problems with Library files

I downgraded to Leopard successfully, everything at this point OS wise is working. However, when I go into mail it is asking me to set up a new account. I can see all the info in the mail folder. Same thing goes with Safari. All the bookmarks and everything are in the Library folder, but they will not show up in when loading Safari. It seems as if the files are all there, but the older versions cannot read the data and thinks it is not there. Didn't SL convert the data the first time it was run? Is there a conversion program to take it back to the 10.5.8 version?
    Thanks.

    1. How exactly did you downgrade to Leopard?
    2. Do you have a backup of your data made before you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
Snow Leopard does convert some data files to a format incompatible with Leopard & Apple does not provide a way to convert it back. This is no problem if you have a backup of the files in their former state (especially a clone of the drive or a Time Machine or similar backup), otherwise it is difficult to impossible, depending on the data type.

  • Windows Media Player won't play media (way to go MS!)

Seems a LOT of people are having trouble getting Windows Media player to work, including me.
When I click a link, such as a song sample link on Amazon, the Media Player window opens, but then doesn't play. Sometimes I get the message "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again."
I have re-downloaded the file and re-installed the app, and trashed
the preference files, but still nothing. I have unchecked Multicast, UDP and TCP, in preferences, as someone suggested.
And why do media players insist on moving the volume control to "max"
when they open, instead of staying where you set them?! Quicktime does
    the same thing.

if the media file was created in v10 of media player, then the current Mac client will be unable to read the file.
(MS in their wisdon decided to make the file format incompatible with v9 for Mac.)
alas, we have no way of knowing which version created the wmv file.
You may also have a hosed WMP plugin. Try right clicking the link and downloading the file instead of playing it through your browser.
