Format Mpeg2 4:2:2 50i in Final Cut Express?

How can I export to a DVD or file in Mpeg2 4:2:2 50i at the PAL resolution 720x576 using FCE?

Then export to QuickTime Movie, either as a self-contained movie or a reference movie if you'll encode on the same computer, and take that to iDVD.

  • Why final cut express wont read my avi file?

    Hi all.
I am currently expreience some problem. Few days ago, i was shooting a video project with my D3s. My D3s shoots in AVI format. yet i dont know why the final cut express and the quick time only able to play and edit the avi file with sound? and wont be able to edit or play the video without the sound. [my d3s have an option which can let me recored the video without sound]

    Hi
There is a bit of confusing about this.
    • .avi - is a container - not a codec and can contain old .avi with codecs as Indeo 5 - and this needs to be converted
to be used in any iMovie or FinalCut (as I understands it)
    • I think Flip4Mac is the program to buy and use.
Howto find out what Codec - If Your .avi movie opens in QuickTime Player - then open Movie inspector and read it.

  • Final cut express - picture in picture?

i have two quicktime .mov film clips i want to compine in a "picture in picture" format.
how can i do this with final cut express?
or can i for that matter?

i have wire-framed the inset pic (v2), positioned it on the main pic (v1) and razor bladed out the unwanted parts of each.
for some reason, as i played it, either:
    A) the canvas played the v1 track, or
    B) the viewer played the small inset v2 track, albeit against a big black "main screen" (meaning: where v1 should have been)
but never the two at the same time, on the canvas, or on the viewer.
    both clips start at 00:00:00.00
when i paused the v1 in the canvas, then the inset v2 (the pic IN the pic) appeared, albeit paused, in its desired location on the canvas, correctly sitting on the paused v1 image.
on a whim, i decided to save it as a quicktime.mov, just as a shot in the dark,
and, somehow when i now play the .mov file in quicktime, it works just like i wanted it to.
not sure why the finished product wont play all the elements as desired, while still in fce4
i am wondering if it has to do with the interlocking puzzle piece shapes in the time-line???
i am not really sure what to call them, but they are almost the left-most things in the timeline window just to the left of the "padlock" icon, (and just right of the green "film-frame" icon)
these interlocking "puzzle piece" buttons "v1,v1" and "v2,v2"; identify themselves as "source", and "destination" (when i hover my mouse-pad pointer over them)
i didn't really do anything them when i moved the media into the timeline,
i just left v1 and v1 connected, when i put the v1 media in the time line,
and I left v1 connected to v1, as i put the 'inset track' into the v2 part of the timeline.
should i have disconnected v1 from v1? (so they were slightly separated?
should i have moved the "source button" up to the v2 line?
if so . . . should i have connected it to the "destination button"? or left it slightly separated?
does any of this make any difference?

  • DVC PRO HD for final cut express

    Hi,
I recently got some videos in the DVC PRO HD format that I need to edit in Final Cut Express. When I try to view them in Quicktime...the screen is black and I cannot import them into FCE.
I have no idea what to do? Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

FCE does not work with the codec, FPRO can, if you can access it. Or, this free app can convert the clips to one that FCE can work with.
    http://www.squared5.com/
Make sure the conversion matches the specs of one of the FCE Easy Setups. I'd suggest an AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).

  • Final Cut Express Quits when exporting using Quick Time conversion to MPEG2

I'm new Mac user and I'm trying to compress a movie from Final Cut Express HD when exporting using Quick Time conversion to MPEG2 format when I do that Final Cut application quits.
and if helps you to answer I have the same problem trying to do the same from iMovie HD and from Adobe Premier 6.5

"exporting using Quick Time conversion to MPEG2 format"
I'm not sure how you can get to that point: I cannot even find MPEG2 in my list of compression types while exporting with QuickTime Conversion... (I have 31 of them, and QT 7 Pro installed).
In any case, if you want to make a DVD and have iDVD installed, you have simply to Export/QuickTime Movie (without conversion): iDVD will take care of compressing your movie for you before burning the DVD.

  • Final Cut Pro to Final Cut Express -- Format issues?

    Hi,
I'm shooting a project on a Panasonic HVX-200A, and my cameraman is going to import the footage to his Final Cut Pro station. He's then going to transfer the FCP footage and data over to an external hard drive, which I am going to use to edit the film using Final Cut Express.
Will there be any formatting issues if I bring the data from Final Cut Pro to Final Cut Express?
    Thanks!!
    Sameer Ketkar

Clip files can be easily imported into FCE if they are QuickTime DV-NTSC/DV-PAL or Apple Intermediate Codec (720p30, 1080i50/60). If they are other formats/codecs they should be converted to DV or AIC before importing into FCE.
FCPro project files cannot be imported into FCExpress.
I'd suggest a trial run before committing the project to this workflow.

Try outputting it as a MP4 or M4V
If Final Cut won't output it, Mpegstreamclip will convert it. So will Quicktime if you have the pro version.

  • Final Cut Express 4.0.1 How do I convert MP4 to a usable format without loosing quality

Final Cut Express 4.0.1 How do I convert MP4 to a usable format without loosing quality

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Final Cut Express and HVX200P - Best Possible Format?

From reading all the posts I think FCE wasn't a good use of money paired with my HVX200P.
In a pinch (the pinch is today) what is the best quality I can get out of my HVX200P and still edit in Final Cut Express?
If I wanted to shoot HD and convert it to something FCE could see what would you suggest? Format to shoot/Converter.
    Thx

Capturing with Firewire from the camera, the best you can do is DV25,
in other words, the twentieth-century miniDV standard-definition format.
    So it's like you have a DVX100.
    Sorry about that.

  • Sony DCR-TRV140 w/Final Cut Express 4 - Capture format question

A big thanks to the forum for patience and direction. You all have helped me get an older digital camcorder hooked up to the Mac to date.
I'm now able to capture video from the camcorder to FinalCut Express.
    So, on to today's question...
I have a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV140. I know that it's NTSC (mainly because it says so right on the side of the camcorder). But I don't know what capture settings to use in Final Cut Express to get the best quality video onto the Mac, and ultimately onto DVD's or digital files I publish to my family over the net.
So when I go to the menu path Final Cut Express -> Easy Setup, I have a number of options to choose from... I (think) that I know that the best format option to choose from the dropdown is NTSC... But I don't know what to choose from the drop down list.
Here's a picture of the drop down list:

Specifications for the Sony camcorder can be found here:

    or here

Can you help me decide what is the best option to choose? If it depends, maybe you could explain what it depends on...?
    Many thanks!
    Tim

The differences among the Easy Setups have to do with audio sample rate, device control, and widescreen shooting.
The Anamorphic setups are for widescreen. If your camera doesn't shoot widescreen (16:9), you can ignore them.
DV media is generally recorded with audio at 48kHz or 32kHz. Choose according to the audio recorded by your camera (some offer different record options). If you capture with the wrong audio selected in your FCE Easy Seutp, you'll get a warning message at the end of the capture.
What FCE Setup are you using at present? I'm guessing it's either DV-NTSC Firewire Basic or DV-NTSC DV Converter. If that's working for you, stick with it.

  • Preferred input format with VHS via Canpous 55 to iMovie/Final Cut Express

I am using VHS deck to Canpus 55 to iMovie 08/MacBook Pro.
I do the input to iMovie 08 as it is less problematic for input than Final Cut Express and also I can share these with family for their video making in iMovie.
However I import the video files from iMovie events to FCE for editing.
    1. I notice the VHS-to Canopus-to iMovie are .dv files with frame size 720x480 and compressor file says DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, not Apple Intermediate Codec.
    2. I also import AVCHD files and those are frame size 960x540 and compressor is Apple Intermediate Codec.
When I bring the .dv files in from iMovie 08 to FCE, I sometimes get the warning about the files not in the standard settings and the drop down list of settings include Apple Intmediate Codec in various choices and the NTSC in various choices.
Should these be somehow standardized or will the eventual output be ok? I had one VHS 15 min segment look great on the computer in iMovie, then FCE but was very digitized after output to iDVD.
    Thanks for the help.

    ... and I also don't have Imovie.
    you do.
on the Installer Disks, your Mac came with, there's 'Installed software', which allows to install the iLife Package only.
for most of your needs, esp. being no professional editor , iM offers all you need:
    https://sites.google.com/site/karstenschluter/how-to-make-a-vidcast
shows you how to use pic-in-pic, green-sceen, integration of 'charts' and other 'effects' of iM, to produce a vidcast.
    -Subtitles
'Subtitles' is for me a switchable feature on DVD ... if you mean 'titles in lower third' - any editor offers this. what iM does NOT offer, is a free-locatable title (or e.g. logo-bug), but there's a simple workaround working with transparent pngs, see my site too ....-
-Split screen video. Half/Half or Full screen for one video source, and a tiny screen say on the top left of another source...
    side-by-side? iM no, FC yes.
-Export video in ipod compatible format
afaik, any Apple video-app allows that ..
    general advice:
    • iM is meant for consumers - convenient, but limited.
    • FC/e or /p is meant for (semi)professionals - what iM offers as a 'one click done'-solution, is a many-steps-process with some background-knowledge and understanding needed.
    • for sure, FC offers MUCH more options .. any option, you'll soon get lost
    • the learning curve for FC is steep! buy a book of master-mind TOM WOLSKY, who generously participates here at this board ...-
    • I don't see a need for you in spending 1.000$ more for the FC/pro suite ... Motion? Color? Compressor? Highly complex tools for even more complex processing ...
I would 'play' with iM to get familiar with your project - what do you need, how should it look? if you reach the limits, have a look at FC/e at any Apple-store ... if it doesn't scare you, get the app and the book, and spend some months studying ...
and Welcome misterdmmc to the  boards ...

  • What CD digital format to work with in Final Cut Express

I am having reel to reel AUDIO tapes(circa 1960) transferred to digital format by a third party vendor. What digital format should I request (audio CD's?) back, so that I can work with it using Final Cut Express(3.5.1).

The best format would be AIFF files @48kHz. Regular audio CDs are 44.1kHz. You can convert audio from CDs in QuickTime Player. (You might need QTPro; I'm not sure.)

  • Final Cut Express file format - audio problem

I have some .mov files created from a screen capture session that I need to edit in Final Cut Express.
They were saved in .H264 format and I need to convert them to one of FCE's native formate. I THOUGHT I could do this by exporting in the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC formal in Quicktime Pro (7). However, I do not have an AIFF option in the audio. So, when importing into FCE, I can see the video in my timeline, but the audio needs to rendered. Is there a way I can get the video with the native audio format?
    Thanks,
    DR

Well, that took care of the sound problem. However, the video is not right. It is displaying at a very slow frame rate, and does not keep up with the audio.
My workaround so far is to convert it to dv musing MPEG Streamclip. Switching to "re-sample at 48000 hz" is not working, but once I import it into FCE, I can render the audio and cut using that.
Not the most elegant solution, but it works.
