Format my disk- MacBook Pro

Hi! I upgrade my software to Lion so I don't have the CDs to format my disk..
What I should do? Should I use my snow leopard and then upgrade? or what I have to do?
I want to format all my macbook pro for the first time in 3 years. Is a :
MACBOOK PRO
15-inch, Mid 2010
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

Why? There's no reason to reformat the HD. If you do it, you'll lose everything that's on it. The way to do with Lion is to boot into recovery mode (restart holding down the CMD+R keys), launch Disk Utility, and have at it.

It all depends on what you do.
If you reformat the partition containing OS X then nothing will happen to the BootCamp partition.
If the other hand you reformat the whole disk then it will be gone.
Why do you think you need to reformat the drive?

  • My scan disk isnt formatted for my macbook pro, how can i open it?

Does anyone know how to open a windows formatted flash drive on macbook pro? Nothing I tried worked! It contains an important conference I

Take the drive to a PC, it likely will work just fine.
Copy the data to the PC, then right click and format the flash drive exFAT in Windows
(if XP exFAT is a free install from Microsoft)
Then place the data back on and try again on the Mac.

  • How do I format a 2008 macbook pro

I am getting a new Macbook Pro and want to give my 2008 to my grandson. I have the original Macbook Pro OSX disks (2), but had upgraded to Leopard and then to Lion. Lion is the current OS, but that was a download. I no longer have the Leopord disk as I gave that away with a Imac I formatted to a local charity.
All I really want to do is clear all of the hard drive space since I am not too concerned with security and would like him ot have the Lion OS.
Should I be doing a full format so he gets a 'clean' mac, or is there a way that i can clear all of the data and leave the OS as is?

Create a new user with Admin privileges, and then delete your current user ID.  That will take out anything you installed, outside of the operating system. For completeness, I would then bring up Disk Utility and erase free space.
Alternatively, you could boot into Lion recovery mode (command and R keys held down while booting), bring up Disk Utility, erase the hard drive (recommend writing zero's to the hard drive, as this also resets the hard drive bad block table), then reinstall Lion. That's as clean as it gets. If you have any other software to load from backup, do that. Done!

  • Format HD on Macbook Pro

    Hi Pple,
Want to sell my macbook pro with Leopard installed on it and wanted to PROPERLY format the HD before I give it to someone else.
I've searched the web but couldn't find anything, could it be Leopard is still new and pple haven't wanted to format it?
Either way, if you have an idea, or a link please let me know. Thanks.

You mean you want to erase the HD so nobody can find out what was on it?
If so, after you have backed up everything, boot into the Leopard DVD and run Disk Utility. Select your partition and erase. You will see below a "security" button which will allow you to erase it securely.
Bear in mind that a real disk recovery expert might still be able to get stuff off the drive, but that's highly improbable.
If you are a bit paranoid, erase it securely again.
If DU shows any other partitions, do the same to them or first make it all one partition.
In any case, use the Secure erase feature and you will be safe.

  • How do you format your hole Macbook Pro to brand new?

    Hi,
I'm selling my Macbook Pro to someone. And they want the hole thing formated to new.
How does one do it? I can't find anything on google which I found odd. I only know how to with Windows.
    Thanks in advance.

Boot to your recovery media or partition by holding Option on startup and selecting it, then when you come to the install screen, select Disk Utility fromt he Applications menu on the top bar and then Erase the disk you want wiped (Usually Macintosh HD). Then exit disk utility, and install!

  • Format duel HD MacBook Pro Help??

Hi everyone ok im looking to do a full format of my Mac just to generally clean everything up as it got a little slow recently.
Im just not sure how to go about this as I have 2 Drives in the machine, the first is a 64gb SSD which is in an optibay where the superdive used to be, this is what OSX and all my Apps are on.
Then I have a 1TB regular HDD in the normal place which I belive supplys my Home/User side? All of my Itunes (140gb) and pics plus documents are stored on here.
    About my set up
    Late 2010 15inch MacBook Pro
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
    OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated, im not the most tech savvy I must say!!
    Thanks Dan

You have a irregular configuration, not only that the SSD is in the optical bay when it should have been in the hard drive bay and vise versa.
This way if your hard drive had problems you can still boot from the SSD and have a (bare bones) account on the machine to then target the hard drive for repair/recovery/replacement. Optical bays are a bit flakey to use soemtimes, perhaps this is your trouble now.
You got it all on there, I assume you know how to go about backing data up and straightening it out.
    Good Luck

  • Is DVD 9 format compatible with MacBook Pro?

I want to purchase a DVD off of Amazon, but the product description says it's a long-format "DVD 9" which is intended for TV-top DVD player, and it is not compatable wtih all computers' DVD players. Will the DVD 9 format work on my MacBook Pro's DVD player?

"DVD-9, holds around 8 540 000 000 bytes and that is 7.95 computer GB. DVD+R supports this format. Also called Single Sided Dual Layered. This media is called DVD-R9, DVD-R DL, DVD+R9, DVD+R DL or 8.5 GB Media."
    Source: http://www.videohelp.com/dvd/
Dual Layer discs have been supported since at least 2005.  However, if the disc is a home brew disc, it may not be as possible to read it, if it was burnt at a higher speed than your player can read.  Commercial discs tend to be more readable.

  • External Hard Disk & Macbook Pro

    hello,
Ok enough searched so far, now I would like to know the reason that why i can not copy stuff form my Macbook Pro to External HD & what is the best possible way to get rid of it , keeping in mind i need to use External HD on windows as well.
    Thanks & Regards

The best solution is to format the hard drive for the following reasons:
    1) You are not reliant on third party software
    2) It will work on any computer and OS known to man
    3) In the long run it is the easiest way to do things
Time Machine is the best solution to backing up your Mac.... Using Time Machine means that when your hard drive fails (not if, but when) you can quickly recover all your important data onto your mac.
Realistically yes the prior comments are correct, you don't "Have to" format the drive, BUT, in the long run thats your very very best option..
Also worth noting, being an Apple Authorised Technician, I face these issues almost everyday....

  • Any info on importing kindle format books into MacBook Pro ibook app?   Thanks!

Any info on importing Kindle format books in an iBook app on my MacBook Pro would be much appreciated.....Thanks..

Can't be done without stripping the DRM.  That is illegal, and can't be discussed in this forum.  If you have no DRM that's one thing.   There are several services that will convert the book format.  I've found a few on Google.

  • Hp 7500a wide format installation for MacBook Pro

Can you please provide me a download link for the printer and scan setup drivers for hp 7500a wide format for macbook pro - mac os x 10.10.2 yosemite?

    Hello PoojaP,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Regarding the software for the Officejet 7500a Wide Format, there is not any Full Feature Software and Drivers available from us. With that said, you will be able to download and install the Apple driver package.
HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X<---
Once installed, ensure that Apple OS is up to date too. Add the printer in System Preferences> Printers & Scanners, either via USB or Bonjour Multifunction.
Hope this help, let me know!

  • Mac OS X Install Disk - MacBook Pro

I bought my laptop a few years ago.  I have a Mac OS X Install DVD (version 10.5.6).  I am currently running Mountain Lion.
I have tried to access the Apple Hardware Test software on the DVD, by pressing Option-D at startup.  This does not work.
I also tried just pressing Option to get to the boot selection menu, selecting the DVD and then searching for the AHT, but there is no selection.
How can I run the Apple Hardware Test on this machine?:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.93 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP52.008E.B05
      SMC Version (system):          1.42f4

I have tried to access the Apple Hardware Test software on the DVD, by pressing Option-D at startup.
Just D, no option. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509

  • HT3775 how do you extend the QuickTime player play the videos I want to watch which have a different media format on a MacBook Pro?

I'm tying to watch a video which is on a website to help with my revision.
As I try to open it, it keeps coming up with a message saying the format the clip is in is something the QuickTime player doesn't understand!
How do I overcome this so that I can watch the clip?

Based on what you're saying I'm guessing you don't have the iDVD software. But fear not, there's an alternative to iDVD, called Burn and it's free. So downloadn and install Burn, first. Then from iMovie go to Share Menu > Export Movie... and choose Large size. Save the movie to the Desktop. You'll have a .m4v file that can then be burned to DVD using the Burn software.

  • Why do lots of websites on Safari appear in a jumbled format on my Macbook Pro?

A lot of the time, when i go on webpages, there are blank squares with blue question marks in place of images and any hyperlinks on the page are underlined and blue as well as jumbled and overlapping. Can anyone tell me why this is and what i can do to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Post in the Safari forum area.  The users there will need to know which os your are using and which version of Safari you are using prior to offering solutions to your Safari issue.
