  • Format Painter in Word 2010 does not hold all formatting for text, anything change?

I have been using the Format Painter tool since 2003. In the 2010 version in Word, I can duplicate what seems to be a bug. I have a line of text that a few words are blue and bolded. I wanted to copy that formating, so I click in the word (or select a
portion of text -- works the same either way) and then paint over the text to be modified. The text I had selected was Calibri, bold and blue, my resulting text was Times, and blue...it lost the bolding and the font somehow. Has the tool changed in 2010?

I have the exact same problem. I'm finishing a document someone else created with wacky fonts/sizes/underlines/bullets/hanging indents etc all over the place.  I selected all, made it Arial size 11, set the line spacing to 1.5 and removed any underlines.
I went into paragraph and set line spacing before and after to 0, and removed spaces between paragraphs of the same style.
As an example of random behaviour here is what just happened.
One piece of text is arial, 11, with a checkbox bullet.  When I look at its style while it is highlighted, there is no style selected.
I use format painter to bring the top style down to the bottom one, and the bottom one changes to Times New Roman, 10, with the checkbox bullet and the new tab indent.
[---] I think format painter should apply a style, period. Forget the 'Normal' style of the document, because when I'm matching format styles, I want that style, not whatever the Normal style is set to.
The format painter only “records” paragraph formatting (including paragraph styles) if you select a whole paragraph. If you select multiple paragraphs, there might be conflicting settings, and the format painter can’t store all of the formatting.
When you are reformatting a whole document, the format painter is a less useful tool. Instead, do the following: Make a printout of the document for reference. Then apply Normal style to all paragraphs (Ctrl+Shift+N) and manually apply the appropriate
style to headings, lists, and any other paragraphs of your document. Modify styles to suit your needs.

  • "Format Painter" from a corrected pix to another one?

Hi. Just purchased Photoshop Element 9 for Mac. New to it.
My question is simple: once I have made corrections (color, tone, etc...) on a given pixs and saved it, I was wondering to what extent it was possible to "copy" those modifications and "paste" them on another pixs. This is actually possible on "iPhoto" and would be like the equivalent of "format painter" tool in Microsoft Word of Exel. This would in turn avoid duplication of retouch procedure and ensure "consistency" for a given set of pixs.
    Many thanks in advance.

Goto the menu bar, choose tools and choose customize keyboard.  you can then scroll down to format options and set a keyboard shortcut for the format option you are looking for.

It sounds like you are talking about the cloning tool?
    Tool looks like this:
Then when selected you can change the size of the brush and using Alt (windows) and Command (Mac) to select your region you want to copy then start to create you cloned image.
    Hope this helps?

  • Please help me with the paint tool!

Sorry for all the simple questions, but I'm having so many problems with Flash's drawing tools it isn't funny.
What I want to do is draw a series of slightly diagonal stripes. In any other program, I'd use the line tool to draw the partitions and then use the fill tool to fill in the gaps. But in Flash, the paint tool won't do anything. It doesn't matter where I click - it won't work, and a little 'lock' symbol appears on my cursor.
I know that an alternative way of drawing the stripes is to make a square, resize it and tilt it to exactly the right angle, but this is a slow and painstaking method, and I have to do a lot of them. Also, not all the stripes are perfectly straight.
It's so frustrating, because I could do this in ten seconds with normal drawing tools, and I've spent about four hours already just trying to figure out this stupid little thing (because this stupid little thing is crucial to my project!). I'd be immensely grateful for any help. Likewise, I'd be very grateful for any help figuring out the brush tool problem on my other post. No matter how much I try and practice, I just can't figure out these drawing tools.

I am having sort of the same problem but yours I think I can solve... is the layer locked at all?
I can't fill in any drawing or shape that I draw out and it's a pain... Was wondering if this was similar to yours??

  • Microsoft Word for Mac - Format painter?

Does Word for Mac have something similar to "format painter" on the PC version? Format painter allows you to copy and paste the formatting of a particular paragraph or part of the document. Thank you!

    Look here.
If you have further questions about Word or other Microsoft products, the best place to ask will be in Microsoft's forums, as baltwo suggested.

  • I'm new to Illustrator and I am trying to use the live paint tool.

I have an image that I have outlined into different sections with the pen tool and now when I try to select the outlines and go into live paint> make, it prompts me with an error message saying "Selection contains objects that cannot be converted. Live paint groups can only contain paths and compounds paths. Clipping paths are not allowed." Is there a way to convert this so that I can fill in the selected areas with the live paint tool, or am I totally out of luck? -Not sure if this matters but I have a photo underneath the pen tool's outlines because I'm trying to edit it into more of a 2D geometric print which is why I need to live paint tool to help me fill in the shapes.

Put the image on a new layer below the artwork and lock the layer so the image cannot be selected. Did you use a mask of some sort? put that on the lower layer as well.

  • Painter tool goes all over in Lightroom 2.5

Haven't seen this issue posted, but my Painter tool is behaving more badly than usual.
I am trying to reject scattered photos while in Library grid mode, using the Painter. Each time I click on an image with the painter, rejects the image ok, then bounces to another part of the screen and I have to scroll back to where I was. In fact, the screen continues to shift around so much that the Painter tool is stupidly dangerous. I have never found it to work as it should, but this is the worst!
I have already downloaded LR2.5 approximately 8 times so far to fix issues - is that my only choice now?
    I'm on a Mac OS 10.4.11.
    Thanks,
    Deb

Really? I had been told differently earlier and it seemed to help with the bugs during the first week of LR 2.5. Seems silly now however.
I will try your suggest to delete the preferences since I have found that very helpful when Photoshop goes wacky. Does it work a similar way that you hold down cmd+opt+shift (?) when re-starting the app?
    Thanks,
    Deb

  • Equivalent for Word's Format Painter?

I've bought iWork 09 to use on my MBA as a substitute for Word. One of the feature I used most in Word is the format painter, where you copy complete formatting from one area to another with one click.
Is there any equivalent to this in Pages?

    You don't have to.
The way styles work in Pages they are just like the Format Painter in that you pick at what you like, except you give it a name and get to reuse it. Pages styles always work from samples of text.
Pages also has three styles: character, paragraphs and lists, with possibly the way outlines works making that a 4th style. So you can certainly take whatever you want and use it however you want.
Copy and pasting styles which is similar, is a very poor way of doing it because it doesn't maintain consistency and when you later change your mind on how the subheads or body text should look, you would have to go back and manually reapply it everywhere.
With Pages' styles you modify the look of a sample of say the subhead and then Redefine the style from that. So again it is pretty much the way you have been working, only easier.

  • Problem painting / blending UV seams using 3d paint tool in CS4

I am having a tough time blending seams on 3d objects in CS4. I create textures for 3d figures used in Poser, and Photoshop is my preferred 2d painting tool. Sometime ago, I bought CS4 pro thinking that the 3d paint  feature would enhance my workflow when developing textures. Unfortunately, I find the capabilities of CS4 to be somewhat rudimentary at best, so I am stuck using Deep Paint 3 to do blending. For example, when I try to paint over a UV seam with 3d paint on a wavefront .obj model the seam will not take paint. When I paint over the seam, a stripe is left several pixels wide  - whats up with this?  Do I really need to go back to the2d texture map to blend my seams/edges?  This seems somewhat useless as I originally bought CS4 to improve my workflow for blending edges and maps together. Is there a workaround that will allow the paint to actually be applied to cover the edges / seams, and preferably a number of pixels beyond?
Another thing I noticed is that the blur/sharpen/smudge brushes do not work to blend edges either, in fact, when I try to smudge across an edge, I just contaminate image with stuff beyond the edge from the texture map. - if the pixel just beyond the edge is black, smudging just drags some black into my image. Is this really how this is supposed to work? Even using a normal brush seems to cause contamination too.
Has anyone found a setting or workaround to fix this? Is the new CS any better?
below is a simple example of the painting problem on a simple cylinder I loaded. The original texture map I was painting on was gray.. to demo the problem,  I flooded with red, which left a gray line at the seam. then went to a green paint and and did a couple of strokes with a brush. You can see that even simple brush strokes dragged some gray into my image. Am I missing something, or is this as useless as it looks?

Yes, it's just the way it is. You probably have wasted your money and should have bought ZBrush or modo or Cinema 4D...
