Format RAW

Bonjour,

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5371
http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements

  • Is it possible to rescue drive files and also format RAW file system into previous NTFS?

Do you have any suggestion for me to format RAW file system to NTFS and also rescue my remained drive files? These external hard drive files are made for the business presentation in the next Monday. I have prepared them for nearly a week.
But, this morning, the external hard drive that had held these files became RAW and needed to be formatted. I could not lose them and prepare another week to make these files again. There was no enough time. Please, give me some advice to get them back as
many as possible. Thank you in advance!

RAW file system error will not always indicate a failed or seriously damaged drive. So, do not give up rescuing your drive data easily. Just plunge this RAW drive to you computer again and run drive data recovery software to rescue your
original data back as much as possible before you format this drive from RAW to NTFS.
Just open your computer and search for a right data recovery tool to go on.
Get more data recovery clues here:

There is no "scheduled" update for Lightroom. There are periodic updates that come, usually about every three months. And your camera will probably be supported in the next update. In the meantime, there is a release candidate for the DNG converter 8.7 that will create DNG copies that you can use until the Lightroom update is released.

  • Nikon D7100 et iphoto9 : format Raw refusé, pourquoi ?

    Bonjour

I have a Mac OSX 10.6.8 with which I use Iphoto09 (version 8.1.2). I once had a camera NIKON D90 with which I was photographing in RAW format and managed my photos without dc problem with iphoto.
I just bought a Nikon D7100 and there can not import my photos iphoto09 ds. Let me explain: I go travel 900 pictures I wanted to transfer dc ds iphoto: everything went well, iphoto made me 3 events but when I tried to merge only a dozen photos ds appeared the final folder!! (RAW, like all others)
Surprised I'm saying there had perhaps been a dc bug I wanted to start and since IMPOSSIBLE, I constantly message "unreadable files, the file could not be imported, the format n is not recognized "and it tells me the path" user / pictures / picture library / imports / originals / roll 1/DSC_0130.NEF "
I do not understand why the first reading of the card it worked then nothing after? If even the outset it did not work, ok, I could believe in a pb update the OS or iPhoto (which I then checked ms still no result)
So here is my problem, if someone has an idea I thank in advance
PS: FYI I precisely qd my SD card is inserted ds MAC is correctly read by iPhoto (pictures appear good), ms is the time of import of the message
The Nikon D7100 RAW format is not supported with Snow Leopard.  You'll need to upgrade your system to Lion 10.7.5 or later and run iPhoto 9.4 or later and instal the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.06 updater.

  • Best practice for photo format: RAW+PSD+JPEG?

What is the best practice in maintaining format of files while editing?
I shoot in RAW and import into PS CS5. After editing, it allows me to save as various formats, including PSD and JPEG. PS says that if you want to re-edit the file, you should save as PSD as all the layers are maintained as-is. Hence I'd prefer to save as .PSD. However, in most cases, the end objective is to share the image with others and JPEG is the most suitable format. Does this mean, that for each image, its important to save it in 3 formats viz RAW, PSD and JPEG? Wont this increase the total space occupied tremendously? Is this how most professionals do it? Pls advice.

Thanks everyone for this continued discussion in my absence over two weeks. Going through it i realize its helpful stuff. During this period, i downloaded Aperture trial and have learnt it (there's actually not much learning, its so incredibly intuitive and simple, but incredibly powerful. Since I used iphoto in the past, it just makes it easier.
I have also started editing my pics to put them up on my photo site. And over past 10 days, here is the workflow I have developed.
-Download RAW files onto my laptop using Canon s/w into a folder where i categorize and maintain all my images
-Import them into Aperture, but letting the photos reside in the folder structure i defined (rather than have Aperture use its own structure)
-Complete editing of all required images in Aperture (and this takes care of 80-90% of my pics)
-From within Aperture open in PS CS5 those images that require editing that cannot be done in Aperture
-Edit in CS5 and do 'Save', this brings them back to Aperture
-Now I have two versions of these images in Aperture - the original RAW and the new .PSD
-Select the images that I need to put up on my site and export them to a new folder from where i upload them
I would be keen to know if someone else follows a more efficient or robust workflow than this, would be happy to incorporate it.
There are still a couple questions I have:
1 - Related to PS CS5: Why do files opened in CS5 jump up in terms of their file size. Any RAW  or JPEG file originally btn 2-10 MB shows up as minimum 27 MB in CS. The moment you do some edits and/or add layers, it reaches 50-150MB. This is ridiculous. I am sure I am doing something wrong.  Or is this how CS5 works with everyone.
2 - After editing a file in CS by launching it from Aperture, I now end up with two versions in Aperture, the original file and the new .PSD file (which is usually 100MB+). I tried exporting the .PSD file to a folder to upload it on my site, and wasnt sure what format and size it would end up with. I got it as a JPEG file within reasonable filesize limits. Is this how Aperture works? Does Aperture allow you options of which format you want to save the file in?

  • Format - RAW vs JPEG vs TIFF?

I am new to Aperture and I received a Nikon D3000 for Christmas. I am NOT a professional photographer. I just take pictures of my family and places we go. I would appreciate suggestions as to what format might be best for me. Thanks.

JPEG is the simplest, smallest, probably offers best quality for someone who doesn't want to post-process the image themselves, but offers the least amount of control. When shooting in JPEG format, you can think of the computer inside the camera as being your own little photo-processing department. The camera will not only "capture" the image, it'll post process it by adjusting light levels, white balance, noise levels, sharpening, etc. It's all fully automatic.
HOWEVER... it will ALSO compress the image substantially so that it doesn't take much space. When it does this, it'll decide to reduce the quality of the image in areas where the human eye probably wont notice. This is lost data that you can never really recover. The "problem" here is that if something is over-saturated, too bright, or too dark, etc. a JPEG will just "compress" all the pixels that seem to be "alike" by making them effectively identical. When you later try to adjust the image by editing saturation, highlights, or shadows, you'll discover that the JPEG has clipped off all the detail and the area of the image is flat. This would not happen if you had shot in RAW.
RAW offers you the most control over your image. A RAW image is sort of like the "negative" in a film camera before it's been printed by the photo lab. The camera retains the original data as seen by the sensor at the time the image was captured and does not 2nd guess what the image was supposed to look like. It will make some adjustments, but it will not make any adjustments that are considered "destructive" to the original data. The files will not be compressed -- so the storage of each image will consume much more space on your memory card. Areas of an image that are too bright, too dark, saturated, or blown out and "appear" to be flat, may not actually be flat. You may actually be able to recover data by adjusting the photo -- this is because if too two pixels on the sensor appear to be nearly identical but are not actually identical, RAW will not compress them to be the same color (as JPEG would). It'll store the difference no matter how subtle. When you adjust the image, you may see the detail return.
HOWEVER... some things you may take for granted with a point-and-shoot will NOT be performed on a RAW image. For example, the camera will not attempt to de-noise the image. If you shoot in both RAW and JPEG then compare the results (without doing anything to either image) you should notice that the JPEG actually looks better. But that's because the JPEG was already processed and the RAW was not. After processing the RAW image, you may find that the RAW looks better. RAW is particularly better when you know you'll need to adjusting the images.
TIFF is non-lossy (like RAW) but unlike RAW, TIFF is a fixed standard. E.g. if you need to give someone a non-compressed non-lossy file so they can do more processing with it then you send them TIFF. If you send them RAW you're taking a chance that they wont have any software that can open the file. The "problem" with RAW is that it's more of a concept than a standard. Every model camera seems to have it's own variation on 'RAW' and that's why there's a delay in support from Apple & Adobe to add 'RAW' support for any new model that comes out.

  • Unsupported Image Format RAW (NEF) Nikon d7000 in Aperture 3, why?

I just bought a Nikon D7000.  According to the Aperture 3 specs, it supports RAW (NEF) format from this camera.  However, I get the message that the image format, which loads as thumbnails in the viewer, is not supported.  I just downloaded the trial version of Aperture 3 (I'm not going to upgrade from my current version if it actually does NOT support this format).
    I'm running OS X 10.5.8 witn 2.4G Intel Core 2 Duo 4G DDR3 memory Macbook Pro.
What other info do I need to provide to diagnose this?

Technically, you should only need to verify that you have at least the RAW Compatibility Update 3.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1357
Current version is 3.7 which can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1386
Note - I assume that the 3.7 would include 3.6, but am not sure.
If you already have the correct RAW support for OS X and are importing new images into a new or trial library, you might try running the 'Repair Database' option found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
    Good luck.

  • Nikon D700   FX format RAW download

Have just purchased new Nikon D700 and want to download RAW images in FX format but all I Get is private/var/folders/pF/pF0rjz5lHAudOVgkt-Dmxk+TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/DSC_0069.NEF Anyone any ideas please

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    You can't.
The D700 is not supported for RAW at this time on iPhoto or Aperture. You're going to have to use somethign else. It's one of the perils of being an early adopter. And this is a User-to-User forum so, no, no one here knows what timeline if any Apple have for adding support.

  • How to import RAF format raw photos taken by Fujifilm X-T1 to Lightroom 4.4? RAF raw files cannot be recognised by Lightroom 4.4

Fujifilm X-T1 is on the list of cameras with RAW file format supported by Lightroom, but I fail to import the RAF raw format photos taken by Fujifilm X-T1 to Lightroom 4.4 with the error message "Lightroom can't process the RAW files".  Is there a way to fix it?

Fujifilm X-T1 is on the list of cameras with RAW file format supported by Lightroom,
It is but Raw support varies depending on the version of Lightroom. Newer versions have more Camera Raw support than older versions.
The column on the right hand side says "Minimum Lightroom version required" for the Fuji X-T1 is 5.4.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Raw support is never added to older versions of LR retrospectively so Lightroom 4.4 will never be able to read X-T1 Raw files.
    Your choices:
Pay to upgrade to Lightroom 5, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all X-T1 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4

Do you have the commands or any article or link to do that ?The usual way to 'format' a raw device is with the 'dd' command. Dump /dev/zero into that raw device, something like # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/raw/raw10 bs=512 count=20 # adjusting bs and count appropriately.
Then again, the Oracle installation manual for AIX (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17210/toc.htm) might have some hints, especially in Chapter 3.

The FZ200 requires ACR 7.2 which is only supported in PSE11 (with update).
For older versions, you should consider using the free Adobe dngconverter which can batch convert a whole folder to the DNG format that your present PSE version can open.

  • Iphoto 6  no support for Nikon D40 (NEF-Format/RAW)

    Hello,
I want to use iphoto (Version 6.0.5) with NEF-files of my D40, but that files are not supported yet. I haven´t found a solution in the forum.
I don´t want to buy another program to be able to edit the nef-files. The functions of iphoto are still enough for me.
    Can anybody help me.

    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

For maximum compatibility I suggest you run the 10.4.9 COMBO updater, the Quicktime 7.1.6 updater and the iPhoto 6.0.6 updater. Also, if you haven't already done so, run the Digital Camera RAW Support Update 1.0.1. Follow it with a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Raw files from my Canon 1DX are not displaying in Aperture nor at all on either my iMac or Macbook - as neither thumbnail images or large images.  The files are there but no image.

  • Formatting raw

If I made all the changed I wanted to the raw file and want to save it as jpeg and delete the original raw file, how do I do this?

    JaneTsv
    You can't do it easily.
iPhoto is set up to always preserve your Original file.
To remove the Original File you would need to do the following:
    1. Select the pic and go File -> Export. Set the Kind to 'Current' and export the pic to the desktop.
This means you now have the Edited jpg on the desktop.
    2. In the iPhoto Window put the Pic in the iPhoto trash and then empty the trash: (iPhoto menu -> Empty trash). This removes all versions of the file from the HD.
    3. Import the jpg from the folder on the desktop.
As you can see, not a straightforward operation, and in the process you've defeated one of the key features of iPhoto - non destructive editing.
