Format SD card in SX50?

Do I have to format the SD card in my SX50?

You don't have to but it's a VERY good idea to do it in camera. It can be done using a computer & card reader too but in camera is probably the best way since the camera will always assign the correct file format it needs to use.

  • Formatting Media Card

I am trying to use a Media card I used in my last (non-Blackberry) phone.  The phone shows that the card has been inserted, but says "Media Card cannot be read.  Verify that the memory card is formatted."  I followed the instructions on KB10527, but I never get the option to format the card under Option/Media Card.  I followed the advice I found in this forum, to take out the battery and retry, but it still did not work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi and welcome....
Depending on your OS, you may have a card that is larger than what your Blackberry Handheld OS can support.
You can try to format your new card on a PC using FAT and then install the card. This will work in some situations.
To understand the specifications, 4.2 OS will not support 8gb cards but they will work sometimes if you format the card in a PC. If your phone has the new 4.5 OS (or Bold has the 4.6), the larger cards will work...
    Link is here...
Let us know how your doing....

  • How to format Memory card in N79 and 5630 Xpressmu...

    Hi everyone,
I am using N79 amd 5630 Xpressmusic. Can any body tell me how to format the memory card in these sets. Coz in file manager there is no option to format memory card.
    Regards

    Hi Sappal,
To format the memory card follow the below procedure:
    1. Go to "File Manager-> Memory Card" (I've named the memory card as N79).
    2. You will need to open the memory card and then go to its "Options" menu.
    3. Go to "Memory Card Options-> Format" and confirm.
Please note that the memory card will not get formatted unless every application is closed and you have not installed any third party applications on it. For this, you will have to uninstall any third party applications and only then proceed with the memory card formatting procedure.
Let me know if you need any assistance. My id is

There is no solution. If you formatted the card, the data is gone, purely and simply.
Sorry, but there is no solution. You'll have to think twice before formatting the card next time.

  • Format SD card - will it shrink in size like windows format?

    Hi
I need to transfer 2 x .mov files to a 32GB SD card for a friend.  I need to format as a journaled drive.
The last time I formatted an SD was several years ago on a PC and the 2GB card shrunk to 1GB no matter how I tried to reformat
again using PC and a Digital Camera.
If I format the card, will it shrink in size.
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

A multi reader that new should have no trouble allowing you to format the full size of whatever card you put in it. You should lose very little space.
As far as formatting, it depends on what you're using it for. Mac OS Extended of course for use in OS X. If you're sharing between Snow Leopard and Windows 7, Vista or XP, exFAT is the best choice. Both systems can read and write this format without any extra software. Other than for XP users, who would need to download the exFAT extension from Microsoft's web site.
Also be aware that any version of OS X before Snow Leopard cannot access exFAT.

  • 8830 curve freezes when i try to format sd card

i have a BB 8330 curve and i just got it. i also just got a 8GB sd card for it. i inserted the card and went thru the steps to format it and it just freezes up. so then i tried to format it using my pc and i keep getting the message "windows can not complete the format" so then i tried my 1GB sd card from my old phone and it couldnt format it all it said was "format failed" and now my old phone wont recognize the 1GB card. could it be something wrong with the 8830 that is messing up sd cards?

First check that the following options are correctly set:
    Media card support ON
    Encryption mode NONE
    Mass storage support ON
Auto enable Mass storage support when connected ON
I would get a PC cardreader and try to access and format the cards through it. This will help us
diagnose if the Blackberry or the card is the problem.
    Thanks,

  • Formatting MicroSD card in Disk Utility-8GB card now showing as only 200MB!

    Hi Guys
I want to give my sd card to a friend and so I tried to secure erase the data in disk utility and somehow managed to turn an 8gb card into a 200mb one while trying to format it to FAT format. This has happened to two 8gb cards from different manufacturers.
I tried to delete the partition and reformat the card to no avail. Even tried the solution here with no luck -

I have extracted the log from disk utility when this happened (below) if that can give any clues

That's probably not the best partition scheme for a FAT volume format. In the Partition tab set "1 Partition", then click the "Options" button and select "Master Boot Record".

  • Format SD card in 680: how long?

My 680 has been "formatting" a 1GB SD card for 40 minutes now, via the CardInfo app. Is this normal? Has it crashed?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

    Hello!
40mins is definately not normal, usually just takes a moment.  First soft reset the phone and try it again.  Afterwards if nogo, try to format the sd card on your PC in FAT or FAT16, NOT FAT32 or NTFS, and then put it back into your phone and see how it plays out.

How do I format my DS card so I can record videos on my phone? Blackberry Curve 8330 Smartphone. Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I assume you mean the SD card rather than the DS card? The SD card, btw, is also known as the Media Card. This KB includes instructions for formatting.

  • Deleting photos/formatting SD card after use in Canon T1i

So once my Canon Rebel T1i formats my SD card in it's default state with two directories (DCIM/Canon) I have no permissions on the card other than "read only." This came up out of no where and now I can't delete images off of it in iPhoto (or the computer for that matter). I can reformat it in my Windows computer but this defeats the purpose of having them auto delete once imported. I am running the latest build of Lion and have a PNY profressional series SD card.
    Help please.

You may have been able to try and use Disk Utility to repair file damage on
the SD card's storage; but the actual damage due to improper unmounting
in the first instance is carried over to the last. So corruption of them is likely.
There may be some third party utility for helping restore or recover data
from these camera flash memory cards, that may help. Sometimes, it
may be possible to see if the OS X Disk Utility can try to fix the files, but
that may also change them or make them unrecoverable by another kind
of utility. While I don't have experience recovering lost or erased images
from camera memory cards, I do know such software utilities for just this
purpose do exist. Initially, a few years ago, I noticed a freeware utility was
offered as well as a few shareware downloads that would work, for a fee.
Maybe that is the direction to check into, and see if you can repair and
recover the images which were subject to damage or corruption due to
the improper unmounting and remounting of the SD. These items act
just like any external hard disk drive, and need to be handled the same.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Formatted SD card with disk utility, broke the card.

I just bought a 4GB SD card for my camera. At first it couldn't recognize it at all but when I connected the camera (with the card) to my mac and formatted it using Disk Utility app as 1GB plus free space the camera could work with the card. When I decided to format it as 2GB plus free space the Disk Utility hung and I force quit it. After that neither Disk Utility nor camera can see the card. All menus in Disk Util are grayed out. I tried 'sudo diskutil' from terminal (the card is still mounted in /dev folder) but still get a message 'permission denied'. Does it mean that I completely damaged my newly bought 4GB card and waisted $30+? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The camera wouldn't recognize the card at first, I guess just because it was too big for it. After I formatted it as 1GB it was fine, as I already mentioned. I was wondering is there any other than diskutil low-level formatting software I can use on the card.

Hi there, as stated in the topic, I have a Nokia 6300, I formatted the memory card to remove a bunch of **bleep** i had on there and ended up losing all of my default apps/games.
Is there anyway I can get them back?
    Cheers

As long as you don't write anything new to the memory card, there's software out there that should be able to recover everything. I know there's plenty of stuff like that for entire hard drives. I'll do a quick search and report what I find.
