Format size of paragraph border

Is there a way to adjust the size of the box that appears when making a paragraph border?
I'm not referring to the width of the line itself.
For example, if I have a rather short line that I want to highlight with a box, and when I make a paragraph border for it, the box extends all the way across the page. I'd rather have the box fit to the size of the line.
I know I can make a text box to approximate this, but it would be simpler to do this with a paragraph border.

_Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'11

  • Changing font without changing size with paragraph stylesheet

    I need to change the font of many paragraphs without affecting different text sizes within the paragraphs.
    I have a huge document...45,000 phone listings/400 pages. Each business listing (as opposed to residential) has a unique text string after the phone number ( |||B ) which will eventually be deleted. I want to do a Find/Change on that text string and change the entire paragraph it's in to a different font without impacting the different font sizes within the paragraph. But when I try to set parameters for the stylesheet, I can't just change the font, I have to change the size also.
    Using a character stylesheet won't work, as it would only change the font of the text string itself.
    Is this impossible using style sheets? Can it be done with a script? I've never used InDesign scripts so I'd need detailed instructions if that's the answer. Or am I doomed to manually change the font on 3,100 paragraphs in my document?
    Thanks to all you keeners out there for any help you can offer.

    I'm a little confused.
    Do you currently have paragraph styles defined? I would probably approach this by defining a paragraph style for the main listings. You can do that by selecting some type and holding the Alt (Opt) key while clicking the new style icon on the panel, or by selecting new style from the panel menu. That style should be what is applied to all the text to start.
    Define a second style for the business listings. You can base this on the first style, and change only the font. You don't need to enter a new size unless you wish to do so. Any attributes you don't change in the new style definition will be preserved, and will change to match the base style if you edit it.
    Do your find/change and in the change format dialog specify the new paragraph style, but leave the actual change field blank. This can be done a plain text search. You will need two passes, one to format the paragraphs, and one (with the change format field cleared) to remove the suffix.
    A GREP expression would probably work, too, but my GREP is rudimentary and I can't seem to find an expression to find |||B -- my attempt  was (.)|||B$ which I thought would find any character followed by |||B at the end of the paragraph, and I would replace with $1 to preserve the character before and delete the suffix at the same time as changing the format, but it's picking up all sorts of stuff in the middle of the paragraph, so I suspect the pipes have a special meaning.
    Character styles should be used to change only things that are special and need to be different from the standard paragraph definition, not for formatting the entire paragraph.
    Yes, I have paragraph styles defined. I used them, along with a bunch of other unique text strings, to create separate paragraphs of each type of info in each listing, and then style them. I then used the same search strings to remove the paragraph breaks (and the search strings) to put the listings back to together into a single paragraph (but you have to break the link to the style before you remove paragraph breaks or your text will reformat itself back to the style on the previous paragraph.
    The main problem is that I neglected to make a special find/change on the address and phone number to make them bold. Now I have 48,000 paragraphs (listings) with nothing but that |||B search string at the end of each of the business listings. And it took me two full work days just to get to this point, so I really don't want to go back to square one at this point.
    I know this is hard to describe and understand. I really appreciate your help though!!

  • My tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

    On pages, my tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

    The Inspector Icon does not have a "tab", it is just a shortcut button.
    Menu > View > Show Inspector
    command option i does the same thing showing and hiding the Inspector.
    Because the Inspector/s are movable windows, if you can't see them they maybe somewhere off your screen or half tucked away partially out of sight.

  • Format Size vs. Current Size

    I hope I don't complicate this too much...here is the deal:
    Captured Video:
    Frame Size: 720 x 480 (which makes no sense to me because it is a 16:9 video)
    Vid Rate: 29.97
    Compressor: DV/DVcPRO - NTSC
    Data Rate: 3.6 MB/sec
    Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    So I take that video and clip here and clip there and then export out of FC using the "Current Settings" (gives me a .mov file). When I open the clip up in Quicktime it displays normally for me on my Mac. It says the Format is: DV, 720 x 480 (853 x 480), Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz. But the weird part to me is that it says the current size is 853 x 480 (which is 16:9).
    When I compress it down to an MPEG4 with Compressor it looks good on the Mac but as soon as I upload it and play it through a browser it reverts back to a 4:3 squished look. Also if I play it through QT on a PC it does the same thing. However, I can open the same file on the Mac and it looks just fine. It seems the difference has something to do with the Format Size vs. the Current Size.
    I'm stuck...I want this to look good but it just is not happening. What am I missing?

    720 x 480 NTSC is rectangle pixels for TV displays. 853x480 is square pixels for computer displays. When you compress to MPEG-4 in Compressor go to the Geometry tab and set the size to 853x480. The Pixel Aspect will automatically change to square.
    You may if you want too, turn on Frame Control and set the Resize Filter to Better. This will give a better size conversion and add a little time to the MPEG-4 compression.

  • Cp6 TOC - video size and image border

    Hi,
    There seems to be a number of changes to the TOC in cp6 32 bit. Can anyone confirm whether they are having the same issues ?
    a/ The video space size is now 4 pixels narrower. It was 196 by 144
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/830658
    and it now appears to be 192 * 144 according to the help. .  We want to know whether this is right as it means we have re-encode videos.
    b/ images now have a border when placed in the TOC. We have a logo with a white background on a white stage so it stand out. There doesn't seem to be an option to turn borders off

    Hi,
    The video space size and the border has definitely in 5.5 was also 196.
    Can you confirm the height as well
    Could you advise the border on the images in TOC information as this makes adobae captivate causes look poor as Borderless images are the norm in graphic design.
    1. video size
    The published size is 192 in 5.5 and 6
    It used to squash it in 5.5, but it now gives an error message and then squashes it
    In 5.5 in section non interactive objects and media - > using slide video -> best practices to use slide video effectively it is listed as
    "Video dimensions:
    Ensure that the video object dimension is the same as that of the original video for optimal quality.
    Do not change the aspect ratio of the video even if you cannot maintain equal dimensions for the video object and original video. Otherwise, the video loses quality.
    Keep the dimensions of a video that you want to include in the TOC as: Height 144 and Width 196."
    In 6 you get an error message saying it should be  192 * 144
    This blog also gives the same number

    We have tried in the old version. None of them had a border around the image in the TOC in 5.5

  • Text Format size not changing results -- why?

    Seems like this should be pretty straight forward, and I must have done this many times before with success.  Am I missing something obvious?
    The text shows up, but it needs to display bigger than it is.  It's showing up consistently at about size 10, no matter what I set the size to, even "size = 100" ...
    public function StimLetter(data:Object) {
                   // format
                   var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
                   format.font = "Verdana";
                   format.color = 0x000000;
                   format.size = 100;
                   // text
                   stimText = new TextField();
                   stimText.text = data.strng;
                   stimText.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER;
                   stimText.defaultTextFormat = format;
                   addChild(stimText);
    data.strng is simply a String coming from an array.
    Am I missing something here?!

    perhaps it's relevant to mention that the code above is the bulk of a "StimLetter" class that is importing into another class, and processed this way:
    public var letterArray:Array = ["B", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H", "J", "K", "L", "M", "N","P", "Q", "R", "S", "T", "U", "V", "X", "Z"];
    // lots more code ...
    var stimID:int;
    var strng:String;
    for (var si=0 ; si < letterArray.length; si++) {
         stimID = si + 1;
         strng = letterArray[si];
         this["stimLetter"+stimID] = new StimLetter({stimID: stimID, strng: strng});
         this["stimLetter"+stimID].x = displayCenter.x;
         this["stimLetter"+stimID].y = displayCenter.y;
         stimArray.push(this["stimLetter"+stimID]);
         container.addChild(stimArray[si]);

  • Printing a slide: how to shrink the size of the border

    I am trying to print a single slide on a 8.5 x 11" page. I'm not necessariliy looking for a borderless print, but would like to minimize the white border around the slide.
    I realize there may be settings specific to my printer, which I've tried playing with, to no avail. But even if I print it to a .pdf, the same ~1-inch border of white is present around the slide, so I'm thinking there must be a setting somewhere within Keynote to change the formatting of the printed slide.
    I've searched through the discussion boards, but coudln't come across a direct answer to this.

    There isn't any particular setting within Keynote. If you haven't already tried this, I'd suggest going into Page Setup, and under the Paper Size dropdown menu, choose Manage Custom Sizes, and create a paper setting that is marginless. Be sure to then choose this size in Page Setup, and print using that size. That will get you very close to borderless, at least in PDF (how close you can get in hardcopy is dependent on your printer).

  • NEED HELP...FORMATING SIZE PROBLEM

    I've been succesfully building and formating projects that only lasted 30 minutes.
    I'm having some problems with my latest project (1 hour and 20 minutes)...
    I did compress with "90 minutes best quality".
    and when I import in dvdsp, the file size is 6 GB.
    Now it won't format into a blank dvd-R.
    I am kinda new at this and need to put it on a dvd for a client.
    Could somebody tell me what should I do ?
    Should I compress again or can I still burn it with another form of blank dvd?
    I need help...
    Thank you.

    Make sure to select A.Pack/Dolby (make sure that file is made) and use that in the project, not the .aif file

  • Can I Auto format the first paragraph on every page of a 20 page document?

    So I have a document that is basically just a numbered list of 200 entries.
    There are 10 entries per page, making it a 20 page document.
    Unfortunately, every so often I am given an additional entry to add, which invariaby is to the middle of the document, and not the end.
    What I'd like to do is if I were to add a new #20 to the document, the old #20 (now #21), being pushed to the next page, would then automatically be formatted using my "StyleA" paragraph style.
    I haven't been able to discover how to do this, which means, in the above example, I need to go to 18 pages and remove the "StyleA" paragraph formatting as in each case following the addition, it is now the second entry on the page. At the same time, I have to apply the "StyleA" paragraph formatting to each first entry of all subsequent pages. If I only had to do this once in a while, it wouldn't be an issue, but as this document is updated regularily, it is getting tedious.
    Nested styles doesn't seem to be an option, since i'm using Numbering which requires a paragraph break to differentiate between each line number, and nested styles seem to apply to every paragraph, unless i'm doing something wrong there.
    I hope this is enough to go on.
    Kraeg

    You are saying that the formatting is different for every 20th paragraph, reagardless of its content, and that it is aways going to be the first paragraph on a page?
    As long as you never deviate from the 20 paragraph cycle this is actually fairly easy to do, you jsut need 20 paragraph styles, 19 of which are based on each other and differ only in the style name. You then set the "next style" attribute to rotate through the list of styles, so the next style for #20 is #1 and the sequence starts over. Now just select the entire block of text from the point where you edited to the end and right-click on the style name for the irst paragraph in the selection, then from the context menu choose Apply <stylename> And Next Style.

  • Multiple character formats in a paragraph format

    Hi. I've searched the general discussion and did not find this issue.
    I have one paragraph format called Bomb that consists of a Wingding character (M) in the Numbering tab that prints a little black bomb in a side head. I combine with format with two other paragraph formats called Caution and Warning. These formats are in column and use a red, bold autonumber (CAUTION, WARNING) followed by a couple of spaces--the text goes immediately after the spaces.
    My bosses now want the bomb symbol and the CAUTION/WARNING word in the side head, with the text in column. I can't see how to combine that Wingding character with the regular Verdana word. I had to do something similar with my Note format, except that I put the word "note" by itself as a side head and created a format to follow it called NoteAft for the text.This way, I have a line with the Note format, followed by a paragraph return, then the NoteAft format for the text.
    I'd rather not have to use three formats to replace the existing two for Caution/Warning, so I hope y'all can help me figure out how to handle this thing.
    I appreciate your suggestions! BTW, I'm using FM 7.2 but will want to switch over to 9.0 when my bosses agree.
    Dimi Everette

    OK, I managed to answer my own question!
    Bomb para format: tab at 0.2 cm (not sure that's required...), Next Para tag is CAUTION; default font is Verdana; Run-In Head with no default punctuation; Numbering tab has Autonumber format checked, M in text field with Wingdings char format; defaults for Advanced and Table Cell tabs.
    I press Return and CAUTION appears.
    CAUTION para format: no tabs, Next Para is NoteAft; default font is Verdana; Side Head--Alignment: First Baseline; Numbering tab has Autonumber format checked, CAUTION in text field with RedBold char format; defaults for Advanced and Table Cell tabs.
    I press Return and type the text of the CAUTION in the NoteAft style.
    I'm going to change that Para tag to BombCaution and create another para tag with for BombWarning and be set! Of course this won't work unless your master page uses a column with room for side heads.
    If you know of something more elegant, please pass it along.
    Dimi

  • Video formats, sizes, best to share in pods

    I'm looking for the following advice.
    1.  Best format to upload video in to use in the "share pods"
    2.  Suggested max file size
    3.  I did upload .SWF files but it doesn't seem like I can control the video once I call it up on the share pod...?
    4.  I did upload .MP4 files. This gave me control but the files are like 50MB and seem to jam everything up.
    Any help and ord suggestions would be appreciated.  I have 3 videos that I need to share - 8 mins, 4 mins, and 2 mins each.  I also plan on recording these meetings as I do them.
    Chris

    1. Personally I stick with FLV videos, as they perform well and let me keep control of them in the room.
    2. I try to keep the videos around 640 X 480, but you can usually go a little bigger if needed. Also I try to keep the videos to a streaming rate of 800 kbps or less.
    3. SWF files are not the optimal format, for more reasons than you experienced...
    4. MP4 videos have had the same problem for me. They are just to large and don't perform the way I want.

  • Tab format/size in JTextArea not working

    Howdy, I am writing a program that uses Runtime.exec() method, I get the error stream from the new process, etc... all that works fine, but as I use append(String s) where s = StreamOutput+"\n";, the output is not formatted in the JTextArea. However, if I do System.out.println(s), the output is perfectly lined up.
    I recall reading somewhere about setting the tab size or something or other about a similar problem, but now cannot find the answer in the forums or the docs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Brian

    here is the chunk of code in question:
    String[] commandLine = {profile.getCompilerPath(),filePath};
                   Process p = rt.exec(commandLine);
                   BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream()));
                   String s = reader.readLine();
                  while(s!=null)
                        writer.write(s2.toString());
                        System.out.println(s);
                        s = reader.readLine();
                   writer.write(null);writer is an instance of an innner calss of the gui, and its only method is write(String s). write does this: txtAreaOutput.append("\n" + s); if s !=null. having messed with tab sizes etc to no avail, I am at a loss. the output I am trying to capture is from the javac.exe compiler, imagine that! and the little carats that point to the errors don't line up with the code in the JTextArea. what's worst, notice the call to System.out.println(s) after the call to writer. this was to check to see that the output was coming out right, and there it is PERFECT!!! ahhhh. Please help if you can.
    Is there an issue that the JTextArea is not using a monospaced font, and if so, how do I fix that, or is there some other component with similar funcitonality that will work? Thank you for your time and mental sweat.. I am at my wit's end here :(

  • Setting size of Line border

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to create a LineBorder or any other border other than an EmptyBorder, however I don't know how to set its size. With EmptyBorder its easy, call: new EmptyBorder( A, B, C, D ); where A, B, C, D are the insets, .. so can you do this with other borders?
    I'm kind of sick of having rubbishy looking empty borders in my application.
    If any can help that would be great - and I will give you a treat.
    Thanks loads once more you guys..
    Edd.

    Have a look at BorderFactory or more specifically, the createLineBorder method.
    public static Border createLineBorder(Color color,
                                          int thickness)This method creates a line border with a specified color and width.
    The width applies to all four sides of the border.
    To specify widths individually for the top, bottom, left, and right, use createMatteBorder(int,int,int,int,Color).
