Format Size vs. Current Size

I hope I don't complicate this too much...here is the deal:
Captured Video:
Frame Size: 720 x 480 (which makes no sense to me because it is a 16:9 video)
Vid Rate: 29.97
Compressor: DV/DVcPRO - NTSC
Data Rate: 3.6 MB/sec
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
So I take that video and clip here and clip there and then export out of FC using the "Current Settings" (gives me a .mov file). When I open the clip up in Quicktime it displays normally for me on my Mac. It says the Format is: DV, 720 x 480 (853 x 480), Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz. But the weird part to me is that it says the current size is 853 x 480 (which is 16:9).
When I compress it down to an MPEG4 with Compressor it looks good on the Mac but as soon as I upload it and play it through a browser it reverts back to a 4:3 squished look. Also if I play it through QT on a PC it does the same thing. However, I can open the same file on the Mac and it looks just fine. It seems the difference has something to do with the Format Size vs. the Current Size.
I'm stuck...I want this to look good but it just is not happening. What am I missing?

720 x 480 NTSC is rectangle pixels for TV displays. 853x480 is square pixels for computer displays. When you compress to MPEG-4 in Compressor go to the Geometry tab and set the size to 853x480. The Pixel Aspect will automatically change to square.
You may if you want too, turn on Frame Control and set the Resize Filter to Better. This will give a better size conversion and add a little time to the MPEG-4 compression.

  • Normal/current size difference?

when I export out of FC 7.02 & open in QT, Ill get two different sizes in the info window "format." normal and current I guess. can someone describe what this is, why. also, I open it up in QT 10 & QT 7.6.2 and they say different sizes??? when I send to compressor it shows different sizes as "encoded" and "display" bounds. Ill export thru compressor @ 50% it will get really tweeked. how can I export from FC with normal results? my file is 720x480, but exports @ 720x480(640x480) and also says 655x480 in the same info window? wha????
    thank you,

Normal size is what native size from the program that created it.
Current size is the size of the window in QT. If you experiment with changing the size of your window with info showing(apple+I) you should see the current size change and the normal stay the same. 640x480 is the closet 4x3 square pixel size QT can display the video at without blowing it up.
Apple+J/Video track/Video settings should tell you more simply what size your video is.
Before HD all SD video editing was done in rectangular pixels.
    720x480/720x486/853x480
Computers only use square pixels so while they can display any size the rectangular pixels dimensions are being distorted on a computer monitor.
Computers want to display things in square pixels-1280x720,640x480, 640x360, 400x300, 320x180
You might want to do more research on square vs. rectangular pixels.
If you are exporting for DVD I wouldn't worry about it(presuming you are working in a normal video size) as all video needs to be converted to SD MPG-2 which is 720x480 for 4x3 or 16x9.
If you are delivering for the web or computer playback you will want to be creating files in square pixel dimensions.

  • How to check/find the size of current ROLLBACK segment in oracle 10g

How to check/find the size of current ROLLBACK segment in oracle 10g ? Kindly help

A rollback segment name like "_SYSSMU231$" is used when you have Automatic Undo Management enabled.
The only relevant parameters are :
    1. UNDO_MANAGEMENT=AUTO
    2. UNDO_RETENTION=n minutes ==> this is what everyone should be interested in
    3. The sizes of the Undo Tablespace datafiles and whether AUTOEXTEND is ON or OFF
No one should be interested in the size of a single undo segment when Automatic Undo Management is enabled.
Possible causes of ORA-01555 errors in Automatic Undo Management
    a. UNDO_RETENTION is too low
    b. Undo tablespace is too small

  • Formatting webI issue: page size such as othe normal US sizes are missing.

In a WebI report formatting "//page layout > page size", the report page size issue of other normal US sizes are missing. Such as: 11x17 inches. Is there a way we can include these page sizes?

I face a somewhat similar issue. We have existing reports in Reporting Services - that can present the complete data in one page PDF and similar page creation in webi is just not possible. With sections and data seperation the whole report comes in 3 or 4 pages and no recourse to manipulate page size.
I hope BO provides more enhancements to Webi - once adhoc users start creating reports they expect to see formatting that's traditionally present in canned reports

  • Best Import format for quality and size to use on iPod and to burn

I want to import from CD's to primarly download to iPod but also to occassionly burn a CD. I would like to be able to set import format 1 time for best results for both. If this is not possible then what would be best format for iPod (smallest/best quality) and best format for burn's (size doesn't matter, ha!ha!) but quality does.

It all depends on your personal preferences and your ears (the quality of your hearing).
Recalling some recent topics in this forum, I remember one person, who insisted to rip all his tracks into a full (lossless) format and another person who was happy with converting all his tracks in 48 kbps.
As for myself, I rip all my CDs in Apple Lossless, which result in full audio quality files having about half the file sizes of AIFF and WAV (which both are uncompressed).
Then I apply the proper tags, artwork and (sometimes) lyrics and convert them to AAC 128 kbps files for 'daily' use on the iPod, iTunes and burning on Audio CD for the car CD-player. I then store the Apple Lossless files on an external disk for archival purposes.
In your case, if size doesn't matter, I would rip them in AIFF or Apple Lossless.
AIFF has the advantage to be a universal format, which can be read by every application that works with audio files.
    File size comparison (average MB/minute):
    AIFF and WAV: 10 MB
    Apple Lossless: 5 MB
    AAC 128 kbps: 1 MB
    Hope this helps.

You don't really give much detail on what operations were performed and in what sequence (e.g. duplicate from where to where...) nor if there was any workload running when you did the duplicate. In general checkpoint file sizes amongst replicas will not be the same / remain the same because:
    1. Replicas are logical replicas not physical replicas. Replication transfers logical operations and applies logical operations and even if you try and do exactly the same thing at both sides in exactly the same order there are internal operations etc. that are not necessarily synchronised which will cause the size of the files to vary somewhat.
    2. The size of the file as reported by 'ls -l' represents the maximum offset that has so far been written to in the file but the current 'usage' of the file may be less than this at present.
    3. Checkpoint files are 'sparse' files (unless created with PreAllocate=1) and so the space used as reported by 'du' will in general not correspond ot the size of the file as reported by 'ls -l'.
Unless you are seeing some kind of problem I would not be concerned at an apparent difference in size.

  • Permanent and temporary partition sizes execeeds maximum size allowed

    I receceivd error 818
permanent and temporary partition sizes execeeds maximum size allowed on this platform
I'm currently using TimesTen 32 bit version running Solaris and I increased one of my data storage size
    to
    PermSize=1700
    TempSize-350
    which is around 2G.
The system has 16G of memory, and the shared memory is set to 0xF0000000 which is almost the max of 32 bit.
Does anyone know this error is a sytem limit (32bit), or it can be fixed by tuning the system paramter? The system limits section does not have any information on the partition size limit. Anyone has any idea?

That's correct, the 1 GB limit is specific to 32-bit HP/UX. All other 32-bit Unix/Linux platforms have a maximum size limit of 2 GB and as Jim mentioned this limit is such that:
    PermSize + TempSize + LogBufMB + ~20MB < 2 GB
If you need anything larger you need a 64-bit O/S and 64-bit TimesTen.

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

  • How to change font size, maximum column size in the result screen ?

    hi All
That's great when using SQL Dev.
But I also have a trouble that how to change font size, maximum column size in the result screen ?
My users think that font in result screen is shown very small, and whenever the data in each colum is long then it's not shown full data in column, they must double click for extend the size. Have the option to default the max size for showing full data in each column ? I try but still not to do that .
Appreciate for anyone to help us.
    Thanks all.
    Sigmasvn

You can't change the font for the results screen yet, however you will be able to select an auto-fit option for selected columns, so if some columns have slitghtly wider text you'll be able to set the column widths to handle these wider columns.
Also, there s the option of switching the layout of a record in the grid.

  • Document Size v Paper Size

I am using Acrobat Pro 8 with a HP 3050 all in one. I am attempting to print two forms I created from scanned images (that have form fields) that are irregular sizes. I am only printing the form fields and not the scanned image, so my print setting is set to "form fields only".  However, my form fields are not aligning with the documents I am feeding through the printer and I've noticed that there is a "document" size and "paper" size of two different sizes in the printer dialog box and have no idea why.
For example, at the bottom right of the print dialog box, the paper size says 7.0" x 3.4" (the correct/actual size) but the document size is saying 7.5 x 3.9 (not sure where this size is coming from). When I use the rulers to measure it in Acrobat, it says 7.0" x 3.4", yet when I print it out, the text is out of alignment and treating the document as if it is 7.5 x 3.9. The same thing happens with another document that I'm attemping to do the same thing with.  In the print dialog box, the document size is saying 5.5" x 3.1" and the paper size is saying 5.8 x 3.9.
Is there any way to over ride or change this? I suspect it's somehow due to the HP print driver.  If there's an alternative to accomplish what I'm doing, I'm open to any suggestions. I am using preprinted forms that I'd like to have fed in the printer. I don't necessarily want to re-create them in InDesign or Illustrator (I originally scanned the forms using Acrobat).
    Thank you.

@Bill@VT - Sorry, that didn't work with either form I'm using. It is not allowing me to enter a custom size. It is
defaulting to a 8x13 (custom) size.

  • File size vs. storage size

I'm confused about the size of my jpg. file. when i go to "image size" and open it, it shows up as 9.1 MB. When i go to "get info" it shows up as 2.8 MB . WHICH is it???? The jpg. is flattened, so this is not referring to a layered file. very confusing! thanks for any insight you can provide
    patti

    Patti:
When opened in Photoshop (PS), file size is shown as the uncompressed file size of the PS image, including layers, layer masks, extra channels, etc. The "get info" file size is the size of the file as stored on disk, using JPG compression, ZIP compression for channels and masks, or even LZW compression for TIF files.
These two sizes will always be different. In general, you should care more about the "get info" size, as that will fill up you hard drive. But the file size displayed in PS will affect PS's performance, so it is relative as well.
