What Format version do I need to use in OS X and Windows 8.1 ? . Meaning :
I want to save to a USB device PDF files and be able to see them both in OS X and Windows 8.1

exFAT would also be a supported format between the 2 operating system.
NOTE: FAT32 or exFAT is ONLY good for an external disk or USB Flash Drive that you are going to connect to one system, then disconnect and connect to the other.
If you do not have a lot of data to transfer save at once (and it is not super sensitive), you might just consider getting a DropBox.com account and use the network to transfer your files.
If the Mac and the Windows systems are on the same network, then you can also use file sharing from either system.

I have a MacBook at home where i keep all my Music in and at the office i have a Windows network i would like to carry some music from home to the office using my IPod. I thought that a solution is to Partition my Ipod 40G in 2 parts and have one of them FAT so that my Windows operating system can view it.

Your problem has nothing to do with data vs music. Music IS data. I've used my iPod for data and music since the first iPod was released. There's no reason to think the two OS versions are involved either.
Look at your usage practices - and I'm not necessarily suggesting you are abusing your computer. Has one of your computers crashed while the iPod was connected? This could cause data damage that might explain the problem. Have you ever disconnected the iPod without un-mounting it first?
You might also be creating fragmentation problems if you frequently add and remove data files while at the same time adding and removing music. One decision I made when I was using my iPod to transport lots of movies and photos for a project was to NOT make any music changes during that busy two week period.

I'm seeing lot of companies prefer Unix(Solaris, HP, Linux) as a production. My experience working with 3 big clients like Cingular (USA), Orange (UK) & SKY(UK) they have many solaris oracle and few HP oracle (Orange).

Multicasting using different operating systems

Hi,
I was testing the multicast example from the Java Tutorial (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/datagrams/broadcasting.html). The example does not seem to work with machines running different operating systems. I tried running the example server on Solaris machines and the client on Linux machines, and vice versa. The only machines that receive data are the machines running the same OS. The machines are on the same subnet and are all using Java v1.3.1.
Any ideas on how to get this working?

Did more testing. Seems to work between Linux and Windows (NT/2000). But not between Solaris and anything.

Yes. You should beasble to write a prog in Windows and Run it on a Mac. When you compile it only compile some of the code. Once the program is run the rest of the code compiles. Each OS has its own Java Virtual Machine or Java Runtime Environment

I have practically seen that jdk1.4,jdk1.5,jdk1.3 has around 64 Mb as the
default size on 32 bit machines .
I am in need of the similar data for jvms on Solaris,Unix and Linux machines . Also much curious to know about the default memory occupied on 64 bit machines. It would be really great if the statistical data is present in any link .

Default Heap sizes on 64 bit JVM are by default 30% bigger then the 32bit version to accomodate the extra memory used by 64 bit object pointers instead of 32 bit.

Java Program in Different Operation Systems

Just one question? can I use a java program (.jar) compiled in windows, in my solaris only by copying the .jar , or do I need to compile it with the solaris SDK?

Hi,
It is not required to recompile bcoz the .jar file contains .class files which are independent of Operating system which will be taken care (interpreted) by JVM.
Actually there is different JVM's for different operating systems(Windows 98,Unix,OS/2). No need to have differend java class file for different operating system. Pls, remember Java is platform independent language.

HELP!! Authorization in the same laptop with different operation systems

My BF installed Win 7 operation system on his laptop yesterday and re-authorized it when he used iTunes. However, when he finished authorization, a dialog block showing that "*Including this one, you have authorised two computers out of your available 5*" appeared; what's worse, when he connected his iPhone to the laptop, it deleted all the bought apps in the iPhone, instead of synchronizating.
I also want to install Win 7 operation system, but I'm afraid that the same thing would happen again (to my iTouch).
We're quite confused that why the authorization in the same laptop with different operation systems is counted as two times. Friends who know please tell us whether this is the case.. If not, please tell us how to deal with it as we frequently re-install operation system for quicker operation.

It's the *operating system* that is authorised, not the particular user profile or the hardware. Before upgrading/reinstalling deauthorise and you won't run out...

The latest flash player release is 11,0,1,152.
Can you upgrade to this version and see whether the crash stil exists?

What error message ar eyou getting. Why do you say it will not allow you to download?

With Aperture, you should be able to use Photo Stream now, but you need iPhoto 9.4.2 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1608
After updating iPhoto to the latest version, open System Preferences > iCloud and tick Photo Stream. Finally, you will have to turn on Photo Stream on iPhoto and Aperture choosing Photo Stream on the sidebar of both programmes

Using two seperate operating systems on a Mac, and a smart-phone to better integrated the flows!

I am considering to get a new Mac.
In that I want to be able to use two seperate operating systems. The Mac operating system and maybe either a windows or linux or an other useful and functional alternative!
The reason for this is, that I have several laptops incl. an iPad. I have concluded that iPad isnt that useful for my needs till now, its not very functional for my needs. I am also going to upgrade my smart mobile still considering functional alternatives (would like to hear yoru thoughts about this as well)!
I want to integrate them into one machine only and utilize cloud and / or an external Disk, and be better able to use useful apps and software that are not available on either one of the systems on their own my own system!
Usage will be both for biz and private, but at the end usefulness, and functionality will play a big part in my final decision!
Do you think this is practical, useful and cost effective way doing it the way I want to do?

My reason for wanting to have windows on my Mac is to be able to utilize, some applications that are not available for Mac OS!
In the past I raised few points relating to that, and wasnt able locate details to consider to have only a Mac system. Thats why I had to have few laptops to handle all! I got myself an iPad(1) but again it didnt met the exact needs that I have!
Thats why I am going to integrate all in one new system(Mac), and exchange and process while on the road via smartphone or something that is between a smartphone and tablet!
As to smartphones; I hear positive notes on iPhone, but seems to have some issues with its antena, the new Moterola seems great to exchange files anywhere, and the new Samsung Galaxy, very advanced. However what I lack at this stage is user experiences to see if any of them can meet my needs, and what the best combination could be for efficiency, speed and value for money(laptop, operating sytem, smartphone).
I am tired of crashes, frozen screens, or not able to open files or pics because they are not compatible in some ways! I try to maintain, clean and update my systems, but some stuff does comes in between despite all!

Memory Allocation under Different Operating Systems

What is the exact behavior of java -Xmsn -Xmxn under different operating systems?
I am running my application on windows and linux.
In linux i specify java -Xms512M -Xmx512M and it seems to only initially allocate 22M (i have enough space on the machine).
I also do the same on windows and it seems to allocate 97M or so.
Does any understand what exactly happens when you allocate min and max memory on different operating systems? Are these options fully functioning?

AS far as I know -Xms is the minimum size of the heap, and when the VM will be created it'll bild a heap of this size.
Ussually on servers this parameters are fixed to the same size, to the limit of memory that the machine has. This has one advantage: everytime the heap increases your application may be stopped because of the need of ollocate new memory. If you make the initial size of the heap to bhe equal to the minimum this never will occur, despite the starupo of the application will be slower due to the need of allocating big amounts of Ram.
About what you have seen, I'm afraid you are doing something wrong. This parameter works, and if you stated that -Xms128m, the initial heap of your aplication will be this (I've just checked it under Windows 2000).

Windows 10 TP - Build 9879 - WIMBoot incompatibilty - "Windows can't be installed because this PC uses a compressed operating system."

Ran into an issue installing the W10 TP today; currently using a laptop who's manufacturer load up windows 8.1 using WIMBoot to save space on the SSD.
Because of WIMBoot, the W10 installer detects that "Windows can't be installed because this PC uses a compressed operating system."
This means that, short of redoing my Windows Install from scratch, I have no way to install the W10 TP, either through the ISO or through Windows Update.
Any chance that this will possible in a future build?

According to the System Requirements page for the latest technical preview, Windows 10 is unsupported on
all 16GB WIMBoot devices, but only incompatible on
some 32GB WIMBoot devices, thus seeming to imply that some WIMBoot devices are indeed compatible.
The question is, why are some WIMBoot devices upgrade compatible while others are not? And is it possible to work around this limitation while retaining the WIMBoot configuration and user data, as an option for advanced users?
Furthermore, Windows 10is an image file (install.wim is what's used to install, refresh, and restore Windows). WIMBoot devices, from my understanding, use the install.wim (which currently contain the Windows 8.1 OS) in
a read-only mode, only applying updates and changes as files on the C: drive (so any updated files are located on C: and the originals within install.wim ignored?). Problem is, there has yet to be any explanation from Microsoft, for OEMs or consumers,
on how WIMBoot devices are to be upgraded in the future, as WIMBoot was only introduced with Windows 8.1, and so there hasn't been any major consumer releases of Windows that these devices would upgrade to.
