Formating second partition as GUID without deleting data on first?

hi!
I'm trying to "restore" the .dmg image of leopard on my external USB-drive. I managed to generate a second partition on my external drive (10GB) but could not format it to GUID (so that I can start up from it).
Question:
Is it really not possible to simply format the second partition as GUID while leaving the first partition completely untouched? The only option I could find deletes ALL data from the external disk which is clearly not what I intend to do.
Have I missed something? Are there alternatives to using the disk utility?

AFAIK, the GUID or GPS applies to a complete disk not a partition.
Partitions are things like NTFS, HFS+ and so on. These can be different on disk, but I am quite sure that the APS or GPS applies to the low level structure of the drive and perhaps the boot area and applies to the entire drive.

I have diskpart script in preinstallation task sequence

SELECT partition 1
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="System" QUICK
EXIT
And I have "Install Operating System" step configured to install OS on first disk and first partition.
Everything works great, but there are some old WinXP computers that have OS files on disk C: and boot files on disk D:
So, the second partition has boot files and is being active. MDT wizard wiped out this partition and installed OS there. Why?
How to prevent it?

Keith Garner, my C: drive is my first partition for sure. Let me explain little bit more.
What I had before:
two partitions/volumes:
1st partition according to diskpart -- Volume C: -- 200GB size -- OS files (Windows, Program Files, etc.)
2nd partition according to diskpart -- Volume D: -- 260Gb size -- Boot files (ntldr, boot.ini, etc) -- Active
What I have after:
1st partition -- Volume C: -- 200GB -- no files (seems to be formatted)
2nd partition -- Volume D: -- 260GB -- old data is deleted, only new OS files (Windows, Program Files, etc) -- --- still Active
fapw, yes I want to preserve second volume. And actually I do it. It works great except some old computers, that were prepared many years ago with boot files
on the second partition.
Unless you explicitly say to not create extra partitions your OSDisk is not the first partition.

Delete History in Safari without Deleting Data

I cannot delete JUST the HISTORY without deleting WEBSITE DATA in Safari with OS X Yosemite. Every time I delete the history, I lose all my cookies that I need for certain websites. Will Apple please fix this?

Create an application from this Applescript with AppleScript Editor and run it whenever you want to clear just the history:

How to install ios4 on a second gen ipod touch without deleting the media?

i've got a second gen 8gb ipod touch running on 2.2.1. (i know it hasnt been updated in a while, my bad). i'm trying to update it to the latest ios4 but when i try to it says that it will delete all media. it also says that i can sync my contents but mos of my songs and videos come from another pc which i dont have access to anymore. is there a way to update to the latest ios without deleting my media or to save my media and then update it?

Can I delete iCloud off MY iphone without deleting data on another iphone with the sme icloud account?

I was just wondering if I can delete an iCloud account off my iPhone without deleting contacts, etc off another iPhone who is using the same iCloud. My sister has an iPhone and i recently got one myself, when I was setting it up I used her iCloud account and all our contacts merged together. When I tried to delete these contacts off my phone they also deleted off my sisters phone.
I was wondering if I delete the iCloud account off MY iPhone would it delete everything off hers too?

To migrate your data to a new account, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, sign into the new account and choose Merge when prompted to upload the data to the new account. When you delete the account it only deletes it from your device. Other devices still using the account will not be effected by this.
After moving to your new account, you can then go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately and delete the data you don't want from each account (i.e., deleting your sister's data from your account and vice versa).

Sure. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. Select the topmost entry for your hard drive - mfgr.'s ID and drive size - then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. You should see a partition window surrounded in a light blue rectangle. At the bottom is a sizing gadget. Select it and push up to reduce the size of the existing partition enough for the size of the new partition you desire. Do not reduce it too much or you may not have enough space for your existing partition. The click on the [+] button to add a new partition in the space you've created. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. It will take a little while so be patient. When it is completed you now have the new volume mounted on your Desktop.

Sync iphone to two computers without delete data

Hi everybody!
I want to sync an iphone4 to two computers, both of them running mac os X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.
The first one, called home computer, holds apps, music, videos, podcasts, photos. I don't want to sync contacts and calendars on it.
The second one, called office computer, contains just that: contacts and calendars, and nothing else. Actually, it contains a few other items, but I don't care to sync them.
First, I disabled automatic syncing in both computers.
Then I synced the iphone to the home computer, checking all the requested panes: apps, music, videos, podcasts, photos. I unchecked just the info pane. Everything worked fine.
Troubles are coming syncing to the second computer, office computer.
I check the info pane (everything ok, so far). But when I uncheck the app pane, it appears a box asking (sorry not to be precise, I have to translate from italian) "Do you really want to unsync all apps? All apps contained in iphone will be deleted". If I choose not to sync, the multicolor bar below starts worringly to decrease, and the green part (apps) disappears.
I wanted not to sync the app in the iphone, not to delete them!
The same happens if I uncheck all other interested panes, i.e. music, videos, podcasts, photos.
The final result is a sad, short bar showing just a very small yellow strip, "other" meaning contacts and calendar.
What I have to do?

With the iPhone, you can sync all iTunes content with only one computer. Trying to sync iTunes content with a second computer will result in iTunes erasing the content from the first computer. However, non-itunes content such as contacts, calendars, mail settings, notes, etc. (anything in the Info pane) can be synced from another computer.
Do not allow your iPhone to sync until you have set up your selections. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar.
At home, make your selections from the Music, Videos, Applications, etc. panes, but leave the selections in the Info pane that you want synced from your work computer unchecked. When you are finished, click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.
At work, Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. Make sure all options in all the panes you used at home are deselected (not checked), particularly the "Sync Music" at the top of the music pane.
Go to the Info pane and select your sync choices that you left unchecked at home (such as contacts, calendars), then click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.

Unable to install new version of app without deleting old one first

When I get a new version of an app from my developers (with ad-hoc provisioning), if I just drag it to iTunes and then try to sync with my phone, the app does not make it over. Itunes/iphone dont realize that the new version needs to be installed. I am forced to delete the app from the phone first, and THEN doing the sync. This works, but of course this method loses all the the app data each time.
Is it possible to upgrade an iphone app in-place while preserving the old data? If so, how?
Also, I find that I have to delete the app from itunes as well before dragging the new version in . Otherwise the old version gets installed again on the phone.

This may be something unique with the ad-hoc provisioning used by your developers since the same is not required when installing an app update via the iTunes app store.

Formatted second IPOD on Mac Now can't see first one. Where did it go??

Originally formatted Ipod nano on Mac g-5. Worked fine. filled it up and later bought a video ipod. Formatted it on Mac G-5 and all works fine. Decided to give up the nano to the wife who has a windows xp laptop. I know I need to restore nano to original settings in order to format to windows. When I plug nano into my Mac it doesn't see it anymore. Where did it go? And more importantly how do I get it back. (the nano still works fine)

No, the Mac should recognize more than one. I use a Mac at work and we have 6 company iPods that I update frequently.
Reinstalling the latest version of iTunes is always a good idea to see if it helps, and also downloading the latest Updater. If that doesn't help, you might consider trying the nano on someone else's Mac to see if you can get it recognized. You can then try a Restore.

How do I partition an external HD without formatting it or deleting data on it?

I'm using OSX Lion and have an external HD, which is about 40% full. I'd like to add a partition without reformatting it or deleting data if that's possible.
Anyone know how to do this? I've opened up Disk Utility and clicked on the Partition tab and have tried to use the re-size corner to change the size of the current partition, but it is greyed out and I can't sem to get it to work.
Any thoughts on how do to this? Right now my drive is one big partition. I'd like to divide it into two partitions, again, without deleting data if I can avoid it.

Very possible. However, requires that the HD's formatted as OS X Extended, has the GUID partitioning scheme, and has journaling enabled. If those conditions are met, Disk Utility will do it.

MDT 2013 Fails to Format or Partition disk on Surface Pro 3

I have been trying to image a Surface Pro 3 using MDT 2013 and have been unable to get past the Format and Partition portion of the deployment. At first I would get an error that it was unable to format or partition the drive and then after that it
just reboots after trying for so long. I am able to image any other device with the same task sequence and have no issue just having an issue with the Surface Pro 3. Any help would be great.

I think our problem is also hardware failure although without re-imaging a working surface pro 3 I can't be sure.

Unfortunately the deployment failed with the same ZTI Error - Unhandled error returned by ZTIDISKPART:

I then rebooted into WinPE and ran diskpart, I could see the two volumes (EFI and OSDisk). I then tried to format the OS disk volume using diskpart. I got a paramater is incorrect error and the disk was no longer visible with a 'list disk' command. So it's
like the format is putting the disk offline. I'm going to try restore one of these surfaces, apply all firmware updates then re-image. If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

mostly if you add keyfigure, you won't need to delete cube's data,
if you add characteristics without change the dimension, also no need to delete data.
cube data deletion may needed when we add new characteristic to existing dimension,
or we change dimension's characteristic members, then system may need to re-create dimension table, error like to occur when we transport the infocube to target system without deleting the cube's data. you can try without deleting data first, if error occur then may need to delete cube's data (in adding characteristic case).

Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences

So, in my FCP7 projects, the Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences first. I've tried new projects, old projects, open all new windows on top settings. Once I delete the preferences, viola, opens right up. I can rebuild my preferences and after just a few days it won't open again... without preference delete.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 17'" i7 and do most of my editing on a 27" Apple Cinema Display. This is the only reason I could come up with. However I did some editing from the Macbook's screen and after 1 day, the Boris 3D editing window again refused to open. I have no idea. Is this is a known bug, etc.?

With Final Cut not running, trash the Boris Title 3D preference file.

Also, you could have a corrupt or duplicate font file. Open FontBook and check it out.

Time capsule partition without deleting the data?

I have a Time Capsule already with data and would like to set a limited space for backups. Is it possible to partition a Time Capsule (or create an image) without deleting the data it already has? Can anyone provide a step-by-step or tutorial?
