Formatting array on 875p board?

My system has slowed down noticeably over the last 2years, and I would like to format the array and reinstall the OS. The array is on the promise 378 controller. How should I go about doing this? The manual makes no reference to re-formatting, only deleting.

Let's make a simple one. Just delete the array, swap your harddisk and then create a new array, there you have a brand new RAID. Then continue with your OS installation, be handy with the driver's floppy disk when you are asked to insert n install the driver.

  • Other 875p boards have problems too

    I went to the forums of some other board makers and it seems as though all of the 875p boards have some problems.  The asus forum is saying not to buy the p4c800 deluxe because they are changing some of the peripherals on it already.  The abit board has raid and memory problems, and as a former abit user I can say that it took forever for abit to release a bios that actually allowed the board to work like it should.  The gigabyte GA-8KNXP board also has ata, fan, raid, and memory problems.  
    I'm not sure how often the others are releasing a new bios but I like the way MSI has been working to eliminate the issues with the 875p fis2r.
    Just thought you would like to know that if you are thinking of getting rid of this board.

    Anyway,he has a point,if u check forums almost every canterwood/springdale board has still its unique probs.
    But MSI was worst that time,starting with that THG (which THG not really discovered without help as some ppl say..)FSB OC thing together with low mem bandwith and bios probs.
    If 1.5 keeps what its looking right now we are up the other brands.
    I wont say "oh,I never buy a MSI board again",its just some kind of russian roulette,sometimes very brand has it POS.
    So if 1.5 really fixed most probs and the other ones hopefully will be fixed soon(manual CAS setting pls) we can say it could have been worse.
    Best way is to wait until expierences with boards of every brand are in the popular forums so u can take a look. Never buy new kind of hardware just when it was released,there is always a risk of buying some pos.

    are all msi 875p boards have raid i see that some baord have ICH5 and not ICH5R that support raid in the chipset. but the bios update add raid 1 for what chipset...? i have the ICH5 on my board rev.A2

    The ICH5 is the Intel controller that supports 2 P-ATA channels and 2 S-ATA channels. It is used in the 875 boards that don't have 'R' in their name.
    The ICH5R is a version of the ICH5 controller that supports RAID on the 2 S-ATA channels. It is used in the 875 boards with the 'R' in their name.
    The boards with the ICH5R controller also have an additional controller made by Promise, that supports RAID and provides another 2 S-ATA channels and an additional P-ATA channel. This is where the '2' in front of the R comes from: 2 RAID configurations.

  • Dead 875p board

    I have a problem. I have emailed support about it but I thought I would post in here.
    I recently bought a Model#: MS6758010  which is the 875P Neo-LSR Retail .  I have just installed Windows XP Pro and had it up and running for a few days when the northbridge fan blew up. Sparks came flying out (case open) and I figured out that two of the three lights the northbridge fan has had blew up. So since the system would not boot I begin to look at the chipset for damage and came to the southbridge which has a hole in it. I am not sure how this happened but it happened at the same time when the northbridge blew out and the system went dead.  I need advice on what to do. Do you think MSI will honor its product? Should I send it to them or send it back to www.newegg.com where I purchased it?
    I hope an MSI representative responds with an answer for me in this thread. Please help.

    how do i format the output of an array so that only a certain number of the elements print per line. i know this is basic, i am a beginner and need help.

    well overclocking is an skill.you kinda gotta get the feel for it and its very important to Fully understand how changing your settings in your BIOS is gonna affect the rest of your system.with this in mind first off there are certain things that must be taken into consideration before you even start.
    your gonna need a bigger better CPU cooler.i recommend anything thermal-right as most serious o/c will tell you they are very good with no frills.
    second how good is your ram? if its just generic you may have a hard time getting very far.and just because it says PC 3200 or whatever doesn't mean much when you start pushing the limits and changing timings on things.
    third thing is make sure you have a big power supply!very important.i recommend 400w for starters if your gonna overclock.
    when you start you wanna go up a little bit at a time and for air cooling i would never recommend raising your v-core over .1 your biggest enemy is heat and what mostly causes heat is raising your CPU voltages.also ask lots of questions good luck!
    also to unlock your cpu go to google and look up "amd wire trick"

  • ? ON BOARD PURCHASE. 875P Still OK?

    Hello-
    I'd like to upgrade my present GNB-MAX FISR board / processor.  I planned to but unlike a few months ago, there are few 875P boards available in my local stores.  
    My criteria:
    1.  SATA RAID capable.
    2.  Full service board, with many peripheral connections.
    3.  Migrate my present DDR memory & 3.2 GHZ 800 FSB processor.
    Seems like the 875P is the only available option which meets my criteria  IS this still a reasonable MB?  I ask since I can't find any in stores.  My alternaive (at least as I see it) is to migrate to 915P, but this would mean new memory as well, something I'd like to avoid.  I bought the 865 NEO2-P, but realized doesn't support RAID so i'll take it back.
    In short:  Is 875P still a reasonable board to buy?  Any alternatives / suggestions?

    Yes, the MSI 875 (pcb2) is one alternative
    and so is :
    865PE Neo2-PFISR - Gb LAN, IEEE1394 firewire, SATA, SATA RAID ( no IDE raid though, which pcb1 had)

    If you haven't gotten the hint by now, we'll spell it out for you: there is no place, and no need for a RAID-0 array on a desktop computer. The real world performance increases are negligible at best and the reduction in reliability, thanks to a halving of the mean time between failure, makes RAID-0 far from worth it on the desktop.
    There are some exceptions, especially if you are running a particular application that itself benefits considerably from a striped array, and obviously, our comments do not apply to server-class IO of any sort. Your system will most likely run just as fast with only one drive, but if you have the spare cash, a bit more reliability and peace of mind may be worth setting up a RAID-1 array.
    Bottom line: RAID-0 arrays will win you just about any benchmark, but they'll deliver virtually nothing more than that for real world desktop performance. That's just the cold hard truth.

  • Fastest way to format an array of numbers

    I am collecting 2D array of DBLs to be later processed by other Vis.
      The process worked fine when I saved the array to a file (standard %.3f, write to spreadsheet) formatting, then later have a separate VI to open the file and process it.
    The same process did not work when I tried to process the 2D array on the fly, without saving/opening to file.
      After debugging, I found out what was holding me back. Yep you guessed it, the formatting. Without save to spreadsheet, instead of “0.000”, the value is not 2.803E-42 (I need to to be 0.000). What is the most efficient way to format the numbers to “.3f”,  on the fly (without saving to file)?

    .3f is the same as a precision of 3 input to the number to fractional string vi (which can handle arrays automatically)
     To keep only a precision of 3 you can also do it numerically by multiplying by 1000, rounding then dividing by 1000. 
    Here is a screenshot of the code using the two different methods. The numeric method should be fastest.

  • Intel 875p can you help guys?

    I wonder if some of you guys could help me out, Ive downloaded a program from Maxtor called powermax to check out my drives, its a quick download and it builds a bootable disk for you. When I boot up from this floppy I get the error message "cannot control line A20" After checking this error on the web there is so much conflicting solutions, some say its hardware fault, some say it's memory fault, other says its to do with the 875p chipset and how it handles himem.sys. As I do not have another 875p board to test whether this is normal, can you guys try the powermax boot disk on your 875p systems to see if the error message is the same, if it is then i can exclude all hardware faults and put it down to the program .the program can be downloaded from maxtor website www.maxtor.com....help will really be really appreciated if you guys can try thiis out for me and post your feedback here. The board is a version 2 MSI NEO 875P

    i to have had this problem somtimes it works somtimes it dont ..are you using a ps2 mouse or a usb mouse  make sure its ps2 also have you downloded MAXBLAST3 that also creates a floppy for  you and needs a ps2 mouse and it has some utilities on it but its mainly to format and partion your drives your hard drive,,,, when installing maxblast3  wait till it ask you if you are using floppy or cd press f for floppy and ignore any other key presses util you get a white screen with writing in the top left hand corner saying press any key to begin

    What I mean is, 5 isn't unique to that "cell"; there
    can be many 5's. For example, I know that 5 belongs
    to row 0, col 1. But how do I show it in the program?Depends what you mean by "show". That's up to you. But to find every 5, simply do as suggested: Run nested for loops, test each element for == 5, and if it matches, then your loop indices tell you which element it is.
    Here's a 1D example. Expanding to 2D is left as an exercise for the reader.

  • Dead Bios Neo 875p

    Hello!
    i have updated my 875p Board via Liveupdate 3 to bios revision 1.7. I tried the windows flashing utility for the first time.
    Now the Computer doesn´t boot or show something on the TFT Display.
    Than I tried to recover with the rescue floppy using str./pos1.
    The computer starts booting from the floppy and begins to flash. After a few seconds the computer boot 4 times like the flashing worked fine.
    But after rebooting an clearing the cmos, the computer behaves like told at the beginning.
    Is there any possibility to rescue the board without sending back to MSI or the distributor.

    Which BIOS version did you have before flashing ?
    What type/make of memory are you using?
    It could be that the flash was successful but the default BIOS settings dont work with your current configuration ..I had this problem when flashing from the 1.2 BIOS > 1.4 BIOS (the DDR default voltage was lowered to 2.5v after BIOS 1.2), my CORSAIR PC3200 LL wont boot
    I had to install a single stick of crucial PC2700 to enable the comp to post, enter the BIOS and set the DDR voltage to 2.7v, shutdown reinstall the CORSAIR and finaly boot into windows  
    First thing i do after flashing (usualy get the f1 to set BIOS values after flashing) is to enter the BIOS and up the DDR voltage
    If you have another type of DDR memory to hand or you can borrow some try a single stick (so you can enter the BIOS and up the DDR voltage), otherwise you may have to try flashing back to your previous BIOS (with the recovery process) -never had to try this myself

    Do i call the weighted board values, once it's at the

    thank you so muchone way of handling this is adding up the weights of the possible moves up to the third move ahead, but do this as "branches". Meaning, if you take this first move what moves will it give you, and what moves will those moves give you. Once you have the current moves to third moves branches mapped out, then total the weights of all the moves and that will give you a branch weight. The better the weight branch will then tell your program which current move to make.
    Another thing to consider in your program is not just which spots are best (like corners are advantageous) because I can play the game, give someone a corner and still beat win, it is a simple strategy. There are plenty of other things to consider, for instance, consider mobility in your wieghts. How many moves does this give and how many moves does it take away or give to my opponent.

  • 875P - Onboard Sound - Installing Drivers

    I recently built a machine with the 875P board installed. Ive installed Win XP and everything seems to be working fine, except for the sound.
    I tried installed the drivers that were on the CD, but the at the end of the installation an error pops up saying "Driver could not be found! Reboot and run this installation again".
    I've rebooted and re-run the installation a number of times, but the drivers will still not install. I even downloaded the driver from the web just in case it was the CD, but I get the same error.
    When I go into the Audio properties in the Control Panel is says that there is no sound device installed because the drivers wont install.
    Anyone else have any problems with this? Or no how to resolve the issue?

    Assaf, thanks for that. I'm in work at the moment, but will check those settings when I get home. As far as I can remember though the Sound was on in Bios, but I don't remember seeing "PCI multimedia device" in the device manager.
    Will double check it tonight.
    KN3WT, just had a read of your post and thread. Sorry your havig problems too. I didn't even manage to install the SoundMax drivers upon first insallation.
    Is it just the headphone jack thats giving you problems?
    Anyone know what the correct driver to install is? There were a number of them on the CD. The website says the ADI SoundMax one is correct though.

    i am getting nothing but stop errors, i have owned my pc for less than a 2 month's and have had these errors.

    0X00000008,0Xf77c6d70,- which microsoft dont have a clue....

    now my hdd is trashed, and i can't get my pc to run with ht enabled, which means i wasted more mony on a fancy gizmo which does nothin.
    as for my mobo, i am sure it is lovely, but now i hate it.
    i wish i had bought intel's 875 so i could complain at them, but it is microsoft's fault.
    i hate them, and all the little beggers who go around infectin xp machines, give me an adress so i can go and kill one of em...

    I understand you... I have almost the same errors... only difference is I have 865 PE board.
    I just CAN'T make this board stable.
    I can almost asure you your memory modules are right, I tested mine and they were OK.
    where you say 0x00000008 you mean 0x0000008E? because that's the error I was getting sometimes.
    I disabled shadow and caching in bios but that didn't work.
    I have other PC in my home with an intel 875P board. It never crashes. So I still don't know if I have to blame the board or my vga card or what...
    I am so tempted to buy an Asus P4P800...

    2. Manually set the end date of the summary task to beyond any of the below tasks end dates.

    Thanks for the reply.  For the purpose of the screenshots I didn't demonstrate automatic scheduling.  I did however turn it on at the application level (settings), summary task level and individual task level.  Either immediately or after
    a calculate it would ultimately remove the custom formatting either accross the board (If all tasks were set to automatic) or just to the point where the summary task end date is set.
    To your second point.  I don't have a huge amount of experience with bar styles but if we use ms word as an example are bar styles not the equivalent of a font?  With customizations like I've made (you stated above 'individually formatted') something
    like bold or italics for example?  I need to do specific customizations for the stakeholders I will be presenting this to (ie: blue means this, red means that) on a bar by bar level.  That would be weird if ms didn't allow for that no?
    It would be amazing if someone could put together a test.  Create 1 summary task, 2 sub level tasks, set the dates (with both manual and automatic), format the bars with a change (red or whatever) and then see if changing the summary task end date removes
    the formatting on the sub level tasks in the gantt.  I know its a long shot but if someone is bored i'd send them some karma.
