Formatting Error.. illegal request...Buffer Underrun

Hi All..
I'm having trouble burning an FCP 5 to DSP 4. I have correctly exported the files to Mpeg-2, using both the File--Export--QuickMoive etc, and/or using Compressor.
I usually get(something like this)
Fomatting Failed. Unable to format disc, illegal request. Buffer Underrun (0x21, 0x20).
I even tried using idvd instead and it happens there also..
Out of 15-20 Tries with new DVD's each time, it only burned twice. Of those the disc would play but none of the menus worked(that could be a me problem, not linking an assest right)
Is this a Super Drive failure, Hardware Failure
I'm going to try the file on campus, and see if I can burn it there on a different MAC.
I'm sorta new to the Mac Universe, so any guidance would be helpful.
Oh yeah, I'm using a Dual Core 2.0 GHZ G5, with a 1GB of Ram, upgraded Graphic card, Latest Tiger...etc

Are you doing anything else on the Mac whilst you are burning - network access, Internet surfing, screen savers, energy savers of any kind - anything that will demand CPU processing power? If so, don't!
This question came up just about a week ago - run a search for buffer underrun in the forum. The situation occurs when the DVD writer is left waiting for data to be sent to it... it's buffer runs out of data. This is usually caused by the main processor being used by some other process and not being able to keep a steady stream of data being sent to the writer.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Kim

    Hello Kim,
    a buffer underrun occurs when the data stream to the burner is interrupted (i.e. the data is not coming fast enough). As the burner cannot interrupt the burn process, it is being aborted.
    This error is commonly associated with burn speed and/or incompatible DVD media. You might want to try to create a disk image and burn that with either Disk Utility or Toast (both apps allow you to control burn speed - iDVD does not).
    iDVD 4 disc image burning can be enabled through the patch HPfurz:
    http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/macsupport/mac_help/pages/0015-burn_idvdother.html
    burn at slow speed (2x) and use high quality DVD-R media (e.g. Verbatim)
    hope this helps

  • BURNING PROBLEM - BUFFER UNDERRUN

    Hi!
    There is a problem: i have brand new G5 quad and i can't burn dvd's from idvd or dvd studio pro - i have same problem - first computer tells me 'writing led-in data' and after a few attempts i have alert about buffer underrun. (The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer underrun. (0x21, 0x02.))
    What funny is - i can properly burn dvd's from finder! Can anybody tell me what is going on? Don't tell me about no name dvd's - i'm using good brand and i can trust them.
    PLEASE HELP - I have bought QUAD for dvd mastering and burning.

    Are you creating a disc image and burning that to a disc or are you attempting to burn directly to a disc? Unless you need dual-layer support, I would HIGHLY recommend against burning directly to disc. Both iDVD and DVDSP allow you to create a disc image of your projects.
    If you cannot burn your disc image to a disc, then chuck the media (not literally) and find yourself a different brand of media. I also recommend using Toast instead of Finder or Disk Utility to burn your disc image with... you have much more control over the burn speed with Toast.
    Also, you have burned DVDs using iDVD or DVDSP before, correct? Just want to make sure that this isn't your first stab at it... you might be building your projects incorrectly.

  • G5 quad buffer underrun error when burning dvd's

    i just tried to burn a dvd from dvdsp and keep getting a error. it is
    Sense Key=ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x21,0x02
    Buffer Underrun
    i tried using toast as well with the same result. my dvd drive is also making a lot of noise when it trys to burn. i was able to burn a dvd (data files) using the finder and the dvd burner doesn't make the same noise. i've seen this problem in other discussions and still don't have a sense of what is causing this. some have mentioned bad media, but why would the dvd burner work through the finder and not through dvdsp? or toast?
    could this be a software bug or bad hardware?
    any help would be appreciated.

    There is a work around. In DVD Pro, "format" with the output device set to disc and the format to ".img". When this is finished, open Disk Utility and "convert" the .img file to a CD/DVD master (.cdr). This file can then be used to burn to a blank DVD. If you click the options arrow in the burn dialog before beginning the burn, you can select a speed other than "maximum". Not elegant, but it works. My HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B DVD drive only succeeds at burning at its maximum rate about 1/3 of the time. However, at 12X it has been quite reliable.

  • Buffer Underrun error message - what is it and how do I fix it ?

    I am getting a 'buffer underrun' error message when I am burning to DVD (using iDVD); this means that only soundtrack is fully copied over, but not visuals. Any idea how I fix this ?

  • Network message format error. GET request must have a QUERY_STRING value

    I have installed new Content Server 10gR on my laptop.
    Web Server is : Apache 2.2.4
    DB is : Oracle 10g (Standard Edition)
    Platform : Windows
    CS is up & running. I am able to login and browse through content store. But when I try to perform any type of Submit operation anywhere in CS Portal ( for example "Updating My Profile and clicking on Submit" ) I get following error:
    "Network message format error. GET request must have a QUERY_STRING value (the CGI parameters on the URL) "
    1. Does any one know why I am getting this ?
    2. Is some configuration missing for Apache which connects Apache with CS ?
    Below is the httpd.conf changes:
    LoadModule IdcApacheAuth D:/oracle/ucm/idc/shared/os/win32/lib/IdcApache22Auth.dll

    And after hitting Submit button on "My Profile" the URL becomes:

    I guess part of URL gets truncated/missed etc and so we are getting this error ?
    Any way to fix this ?
    Edited by: user12188052 on Sep 21, 2010 10:10 AM

    This issue is resolved.
    Cause
    - After installation when I started CS , I saw "D:\oracle\ucm\idc\weblayout\idcplg" folder missing error in logs. Reason why I created this "idcplg" folder inside "weblayout" folder was because I thought it was not created during installation. I created this folder & copied "idc_cgi_isapi.dll" this file into it.. This was the issue
    Fix
    - I deleted the folder "D:\oracle\ucm\idc\weblayout\idcplg" and everything started working fine now.

    Toast Titanium 7.0.2 gets to Writing Lead-in/Preparing then returns Buffer Underrun Error. Prevention is checked in Recorder settings.

  • Build & Format Errors

    I am using DVD Studio Pro 1.5 to build and format a DVD. I've been running into a variety of errors while attempting this. Most of the time, I'd get the Power Calibration Error and went through a troubleshooting exercise which included cleaning the DVD drive, re-installing the software, and buying new discs for fear of bad media. I'm still getting an error and the latest one is the Buffer Underrun Error #8450. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
    DAVe

    Good ol' buffer underrun! It happens far less with later versions of DVDSP... so I haven't seen that for a while.
    OK - this is usually caused when you are using the computer to do other things whilst build/format takes place - it could be a screen saver, netwrok access, energy saver, email, ... anything that takes processing power away from the burning.
    What happens is there is a steady stream of data to the writer which gets placed into a buffer. This info is used as the writer can deal with it - essentially, it writes slower than the info can be passed to it, hence the buffer area.
    If the computer gets caught out doing other tasks instead of sending the info to the buffer, the writer will empty the buffer of info and there will be none left to write - normally the last command is an end of file type of thing and so the writer finalises the disc. However, if there is nothing in the buffer, and no end has been reached, the writer thinks it has an error... the buffer has run out of info... underrun.
    SO - turn off all and any other activity that you are using the computer for, and try again.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   DVD SP 4.0.3

    There are a few ways you can use Toast to burn your DVD.
    The following way is the best way to use DVD SP and Toast integrated together.
    Author your DVD in DVD SP, be sure to have All Regions checked.
    When it is all finished, select Build/Format.
    Select your appropriate folder to build your VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder, then select output device>Harddrive, then DDP 2.0 is set by default.
    You will be prompted to save the DVD.img file to your drive. Rename it to your DVD like MY_MOVIE.img or whatever your DVD is called.
    When it finishes building/formatting, close DVD SP.
    Open up Toast and select COPY
    I have Toast 7 so this is how it works.... (Toast 5 did it differently, but still you need to burn a .img file)
    Select COPY, then IMAGE FILE to the left.
    Drop your .img file into the main window, hit the RECORD button.
    This will bring up a prompt for a write speed.
    If you are making a master, it is advised to use the lowest speed possible (1X DVD), if you DVDR will let you.
    Some only go as low as 4X. I typically use 4X because i use 16X Verbatim media and it only goes to 4X.
    A full 4.37gb DVD at 1X is like 55 minutes. 2x is 27min, 4x is 14 min, and so on.
    But this is the best way to make a master.
    Then you can make copies from this at a higher speed if you want.
    Be sure to VERIFY the disc after it burns. It will prompt you to do so.
    You can also use the VIDEO tab and select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS on the left. I would advise against this method although you can. It has to do with the way DVD SP builds your VIDEO_TS folders. Although you set it to all region, if you just BUILD the project it has a RCM Value (Region Code Mask) of 64 (0 is all region). It has a bug which deselects Region 7. Not sure why, but it does.
    So if you Build/Format, it will be RCM Value of 0.
    That is why it is best to do an .img file and burn in Toast which is better burning software.
    Hope this info helps.

  • Requested buffer too large - but data is already in memory

    Hello all,
    I am writing a program that generates sound and then uses the Java Sound API to play it back over the speakers. Until recently, using clips have not led to any problems. On two computers I can play the sound without a hitch. However, on the newest computer (and also with the largest specs and especially more RAM), I am getting an error while trying to play back the sound. The exception that is thrown is:
    javax.sound.sampled.LineUnavailableException: Failed to allocate clip data: Requested buffer too large.
    I find this odd because the buffer already exists in memory: I don't have to read in a .wav file or anything because I am creating the audio during the course of my program's execution (this is also why I use Clips instead of streaming - the values are saved as doubles during the calculations and then converted into a byte array, which is the buffer that is used in the clip.open() method call). It has no problems allocating the double array, the byte array, or populating the byte array. It is only thrown during clip.open() call. I also find it strange that it would work on two other computers, both of which have less RAM (it runs fine on a machine with 512MB and 2GB of RAM, both XP 32-bit). The only difference is that the computer with the issue is running Windows 7 (the RTM build), 64-bit with 6GB of RAM. I am running it through Netbeans 6.7.1 with memory options set to use up to 512MB - but it's never gone up that far before. And I've checked the size of the buffer on all three computers and they are all the same.
    Does anyone know what the issue could be or how to resolve it? I am using JDK6 if that matters. Thank you for your time.
    Edited by: Sengin on Sep 18, 2009 9:40 PM

    Thanks for your answer. I'll try that.
    I figured it had something to do with Windows 7 since it technically hasn't been released yet (however I have the RTM version thanks to a group at my univeristy in cahoots with Microsoft which allows some students to get various Microsoft products for $12).
    Edit: I just changed the Clip to a SourceDataLine (and the few other necessary changes like changing the way the DataLine.Info object was created) and wrote the whole buffer into it, drained the line and then closed it. It works fine. I'll mark the question as answered, however that may not be the "correct" answer (perhaps it does have something to do with Windows 7 and not being completely tested yet). Thanks.

  • Re: IllegalArgumentException: Illegal request to write non-integral

    Description:
                   Java sound library has been bundled with java1.4. There was a
                   separate sound libraray in java1.3 (sound.jar). In java1.4
                   com.sun.media.sound.* contains an inbuilt sound device configuration
                   library.
                   A JMF class (com.sun.media.protocol.javasound.JavaSoundSourceStream.class)
                   uses javax.sound.sampled.TargetDataLine Interface for reading data from
                   media device and defines a buffer size to read data for the method
                   javax.sound.sampled.TargetDataLine.read(byte[] b, int off, int len)
                   for the variable "len"
                   The source for read method of the class
                   javax.sound.sampled.TargetDataLine.read resembles like this:
                   public int read(byte[] b, int off, int len) {
                   if (len % getFormat().getFrameSize() != 0) {
                        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Illegal request to write non-integral number of frames (" + len + " bytes )");
                   Clearly, this requires that the number of bytes to be read must
                   be an integral number of sample frames, such that:
                   [ bytes read ] % [frame size in bytes ] == 0
    Solution:
                   Buffer size defined in JavaSoundSourceStream should be proper
                   and adjustable for device capability.
                   Before defining buffer size, the getFrameSize() method of
                   javax.sound.sampled.AudioFormat should be called to verify
                   the frame size of the media device.
                   The following code should be inserted in the file
                   com/sun/media/protocol/javasound/JavaSoundSourceStream.java
                   in the method openDev():
                   int adjust_FrameBuffer_size = afmt.getFrameSize();
                   bufSize = bufSize - (bufSize % adjust_FrameBuffer_size);
                   before defining DataLine.Info buffersize.

  • Invalid Keystore Format error

    we need to configure an SSO from SAP portal and a third party website by passing encrypted userid as url parameters.
    To configure the SSO I have received the public key of the third party and able to access it from server location. Now I have to access priavte key of the SAP Portal certificate and sign the UserId and pass it as url parameter. I have gone through many blogs and written code as below which is giving Invalid Keystore Format error.
    My question is
    1. What should be passed to FileInputStream?
    As of now we are passing the .cer file which is stored as part of project.
    Below code is throwing error at ks.load() method.
    String fielPath1 = request.getPublicResourcePath()+"/SAPLogonTicketKeypair-cert1.cer";
    FileInputStream ksfis = new FileInputStream(fielPath1);
    KeyStore ks = KeyStore.getInstance("JKS");
    ks.load(null, sPass.toCharArray());
    BufferedInputStream ksbufin = new BufferedInputStream(ksfis);
    ks.load(ksbufin, sPass.toCharArray());
    PrivateKey priv = (PrivateKey) ks.getKey(alias, kPass.toCharArray());
    Error is:
    Invalid keystore formatsun.security.provider.JavaKeyStore.engineLoad(JavaKeyStore.java:633)sun.security.provider.JavaKeyStore$JKS.engineLoad(JavaKeyStore.java:38)java.security.KeyStore.load(KeyStore.java:1185)am_sso_apc.doContent(am_sso_apc.java:132)com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.AbstractPortalComponent.serviceDeprecated(AbstractPortalComponent.java:213)
    Please let me know how to pass the filepath to extract the priavte key .

    It is an interface from IDOC to JDBC. While testing the interface,am getting the following error
    "Error processing request in sax parser: Error when executing statement for table/stored proc. 'put_delivery' (structure 'Statement_Delivery'): java.lang.NumberFormatException: null"
    Any kind of help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Thireesha.

    Hello,
    Please refer to SAP NOTE 801367.
    In advanced tab, use logSQLQuery-->true. Tt will display the actual sql statement in audit log instead of xml format.
    You can copy this sql statement and execute directly in database to check the problem.
