Formatting Failed Version 2.0.5

I am trying to format to an external DVD burner (Lacie d2).
I am getting a Formatting Failed error - The recording device reported the illegal request: Invalid field in cdb. (0x24, 0x00).
I have already burned to my internal Pioneer drive so I already have a Video_TS folder available to point to in the formatting window. I am able to select the external drive. This worked when I first purchased the drive and tested. Now I am getting the error and it just ejects the disk and the error pops up. I've done everything the same. Bitrate is 4. Not sure where to go to try to fix this error. I already tried to export a new MPEG2 file from FCP. Same result. The drive works well with TOAST, but I need the DVD Studio Pro menus that I have created. Tried different disks also. Any direction on this one?

ONE OTHER NOTE: THE REASON I AM GOING TO THE FORMAT WINDOW IS THE BURN ICON DEFAULTS TO THE INTERNAL DRIVE AND ASKS FOR A BLANK DVD. IS THERE A WAY I CAN CHANGE THE DEFAULT BURNER TO THE EXTERNAL UNIT????

  • Formatting Failed:  Compiler File Error

    Hello...
Yesterday I got my crossgrade disks from Apple, so I upgraded my G4 Powerbook with the full Studio Pro upgrade, then made sure I had all current patches.
When I opened up one of my DVD Studio Pro projects and clicked Burn, It failed with a dailog box that said "Formatting failed, Building was not successful, See log" so I looked at the log and it said in red "Compiler File Error"
This project worked fine before I upgraded... So, for grins, I started from scratch and rebuilt the project and reimported the assets. Now I had just recompressed the video/audio with the new compressor as well... Anyway, same result. Also, when it fails, the OS-X window pops up that you normally get once you insert a blank DVD and you can choose an app or hit ignore.
Can't figure this out... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Once I upgraded, I recompressed the video (its about 14 min, and uses Dolby, not AIFF)... When I opened DVD Studio Pro, it prompted me that assets had changed, I said ok, then tried to burn and go the error. I then tried deleting the PAR folder, no help. So, I just closed the project, hit NEW and recreated the project (it was rather simple) and then tried to burn... Same error.
I burned this same DVD two days ago under the old pre-universal version and it worked fine. I only recompressed because I heard that the new version performed much better.
Sorta lost on this one... I don't see any reason why it shouldnt work. The log only says the one line and gives no other help.

  • Formatting Failed: Cannot Write Medium...

    Hi There,
I've been trying to burn a particular DVD now for some time. I've had nothing but problems with Compressor and DVDSP creating video artifacting (and yes, my audio is an AC3 file). This was never a problem in the older version though.
Anyways, I bought Sorenson Squeeze because it will encode MPEG 2 files as well as I need it for Flash. After I created a .MPV file from Squeeze I brought it into DVDSP and everything seems fine - until I went to format the disc I got the following error:
    Formatting Failed
The recording device reported the not ready error:
Cannot write medium - incompatible format (0x30, 0x05.)
I tried burning the disc in Toast and got a formatting failed error there too. I'm trying to burn picture only right now so there are no audio files to screw any of this up.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    K

    Hi Kristin:
Before trying to burn directly from DVDSP, did you build the project in your hard drive? I mean go to Format and select Destination > Output Device > Hard Drive. That will create an .img file (a DVD image file) that first: you can mount double clickig it and test it with DVD player, and second, you can take it and just drop into Toast icon (or drop the .img file into the Copy section of Toast)and burn the final video DVD.
In that way you use DVDSP for creating the complete final DVD structure and Toast to burn it. It could help in case that DVDSP doesn't "like" your media.

  • Formating Failed DVD Studio Pro 4

I have been using DVD Studio Pro 4 for several months (having upgraded from previous version) and had no problems. Now regardless of build and format or burn and even going to image file I get 'Formating Failed' see log - log lists 'Formating Cancelled'.
The only recent change has been to replace a faulty HDD - the replaced HDD has nothing to do with the boot drive, where applications are stored - the DVD I am trying to create has been done several times from material not stored on the faulty or new replacement drive.
    Any suggestions????
I came across a post from 2009 where someone descries a similar thing which seemd to just rectify itself.
    Thanks

Try this: Go to File->Advanced Burn->Build and let DVD-SP do the build on a local hard drive.   If that works, try burning the DVD from that build using Toast or Disc Utility:  http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/making_dvd_copies.html
If the Build worked OK, the problem likely isn't in DVD-SP.
If the disc burn failed, it may be the media or the burner that is the source of the problem.

  • Photoshop CC White Window Workaround Plugin Fails Version Test?

I'm sure everyone with a Wacom tablet on a Mac is aware of the "White window" issue. See the original discussion thread at: Drop Down Menus in Photoshop CS 6 Goes Blank In Mavericks
Photoshop developers partook in the discussion on the thread, and a plugin that fixed the issue was released. Plugin works great, and even in CC/CS6
With the latest update to the Photoshop CC application, the white window issue is back. Looking in the console reveals the following:
8/7/14 1:31:03.798 PM Adobe Photoshop CC 2014[11038]: WhiteWindowWorkaround failed version test (<= 14) and it will not install. Version is 15
8/7/14 1:31:03.798 PM Adobe Photoshop CC 2014[11038]: WhiteWindowWorkaround did *not* initialize
Is there an updated version/fix that anyone is aware of? I searched, but maybe I missed something.
    Many thanks.
    Andrew.

Photoshop CC 2014 does not need that plugin, because the workarounds are already built into the app.

  • Burn Problem: "Formatting Failed...blah, blah, blah"

Got a hand-me-down G4 500 MHz with DVD Studio Pro 2. Installed a new LaCie internal DVD drive (model #300980).
Authored a DVD, clicked "Burn", it encoded and compiled OK, but just as it started the burn process it stopped, ejected the disc, and gave me this error message:
"Formatting Failed. The recording device reported the illegal request. Invalid field in cdb. (ox24, 0x0)"
I did a firmware update, placed the LaCie.drprofile in the Library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles folder, but it didn't help.
I CAN copy and burn a DVD with Toast however, so it appears to be a problem between DVDSP2 and the LaCie drive. WHAT the problem is I have no idea, which is why I plead for your help.
    ~Barry~
PS: I need this DVD for a possible job, so I'm screwed if I can't get it to work.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm assuming you can't just build the Video_TS in
DVDSP 2 like in DVDSP 3+4 or else I'm sure you would
of just built it there then used Toast to burn it
    right?
Uuuuuuuhh. I forgot to mention that I just taught myself DVDSP2 a couple of days ago, and that I'm a PC lifer in conversion to the Mac way.
Now that I feel kinda stupid, I'll just go learn how to do that. I assume that I just somehow bring the menu and all that stuff into Toast?
    Thanks, amigo.

  • Formatting Failed- Device not Supported

Hi. I'm new to DVDSP and hope this isn't a stupid question. (No hits when I searched for the same problem.)
I have a project that started as FCS HD. I sent it to Compressor and created a QT H.264.mov file that is 5.96GB. Built a DVDSP project that ended up at 6.6 GB. I'm trying to burn it in HD onto a DL DVD. When I do, I get an error message that says...
Formatting Failed: This device is not supported for the requested burn operation.

actually you're working a little too hard. You actually tried to make an HD DVD. It's a defunct format that only plays on Macs and a handful of set top players. While you can make one, I believe I remember that the media is indeed different, so trying to burn to red laser media is going to do what it did for you.
You can actually make a Blu-ray using Compressor. There's a lot of documentation around here on that. However, you'll need a BR burner for your file size. On the other hand you can burn to red laser media. The howevers there mean it has to be yet smaller and you can't really author, just burn using the very limited menus provided in Compressor, or take the files over to Encore where you can do more with them. Or take them entirely onto another BR authoring environment.

  • Formatting failed

    Hi folks,
I'm getting the formatting failed error that people have mentioned previously on this forum. I've had success burning a project with media from one spindle but not with other media from the same one. Not totally sure if it's a media issue or not. But assuming not...
I've tried to make a disk image and go that route, but even when I try to do that it says formatting failed. The problem is intermittent, but seems to resolve when I re-install and then recur after I use my SuperDrive to burn a CD.
    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    Which drive with what media?

  • Formatting failed problem.

hi, i've done my first project on dvd studio. bit of a trail and error but i got there in the end. i just have one problem now. if i want to burn the project i get the message 'Formatting failed - One of the volumes on the media is still in use.' i tried everything i knew is possible, but still cant get over this message.
also, i've burned one dvd which worked before, but it could not be plaid on my dvd player or on a pc, but it worked on mac's. which settings do i have to use?
can imagine that this is basic stuff for you guys who are familiar with the software, but i would be glad for every help. thanks. michael.

Can you build the project without formatting?
What type of burner & media are you using?

  • Dual Layer DVD - Formatting Failed

I've bene trying to format a dual layerDVD project for the past few hours and I keep getting a Formatting Failed" message and Layer 1 cannot exceed Layer 0 for a OTP disc. I've tried shifting the layer break point all over the place to no avail - is there a sure fire way of getting it spot on?
I also tried using DVD After Edit for the break point, to no avail...

    Hi Marc Morris
Have you tried leaving the Break point set to Automatic I found that was the only way to start with, I have since come to understand that you must make the first layer longer that the second and also ensure that the first layer does not exceed the aloud space for the disc, you need to keep the first layer something like 3.9/4.2 GB maximum because even DL dics will not hold the full amount of 8.5GB. Most of the DL discs I now make I try to keep down to 7.5GB in total and they work nearly every time.
Hope this is of some help
    PJ

  • Formatting Failed. Building not successful. See log.

I keep getting a 'Formatting Failed. Building not successful. See log.' error every time I try to burn a project.
I created the movie using Final Cut Pro, exported it to Compressor, and then submitting it using the DVD: Best Quality 120 minutes preset. I got 2 files, an m2v and an ac3 file which I assume is the video and the audio. I imported it to DVDSP as assets and then inserted a blank DVD ready to burn and I get that error when I try to burn.
I tried burning several times and getting the same error. First time using Final Cut Studio.
    FYI: It's a 1h and 43 minutes video.
    This is my log:

I am having exactly the same problem, which suddenly started happening. I have been successfully authoring DVD projects with DVD Studio Pro for about 2 years, so I know how to set up projects and output them properly. When I select "Burn" I get a failure message during the build process which tells me nothing other than the fact that that the build failed. To determine if the optical drive was faulty I checked playback of DVDs and data burning to a blank DVD from the Mac OS and both worked fine. Then I tried doing a separate Build and Format and that worked as well. But, I cannot seem to do the one step Burn that I have done dozens of time before. I can't imagine that this has any relationship to the problem, but I recently replaced the 750 GB Media Drive with three 1 TB drives, set up as a RAID, but did not touch the 750 GB Boot Drive. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

  • Format Failed error when trying to format a WD MyBook 1TB external

I have tried twice to format the drive with the same "Format Failed" error message. I know it was still formatting with 28 minutes remaining (of the 7 hour format job) the first time - the second time it ran over night. Both times, I formatted with Mac OS Extended (journaled), and selected to zero out the data.
The only difference between the two attempts was a message reporting the Mac lost connection with the drive (after the first attempt) - didn't see any such message this morning after the second attempt.
I set a couple partitions, and ran "Disk Verify".
"DIsk Verify" lists the things it has checked, and gives the following messages:
The volume Startup Backup appears to be OK.
The volume Time Machine appears to be OK.
Other than the "Format Failed" error message, the disk appears to be ok. The "Startup Backup" volume is 319.87 GB as I set, and the "Time Machine" volume is 611.64 GB
I am able to copy a file to both volumes.
So, is the "Format Failed" error message real, and the "Disk Verify" fails to see a problem because it is checking things like the Catalog file, and not each spot on the drive?
Are there any disk utilities that can test the whole drive?

As I can see from the information posted, you are trying to
use URL-based portlet's SSO feature, though not in a correct
    way.
The SSO feature of URL-based portlets relie on the usage
of Cookies as authentication tokens. For example, in the
    present context, http://hostname:port/j2ee/examples/jsp/c.jsp
will write a cookie to the client upon successfull authentication.
Subsequent access to the same JSP or some other JSP in the same
workspace should be checking for the existence of this particular
cookie at the client side and if found should not prompt for
    user information again.

  • "Formatting failed" message when burning CDs or DVDs on Powermac G5

My trusty 2.5 GHz G5 dual processor goes through the encoding process in DVD Studio Pro and then, at some point, gives an error message as follows:
    "Formatting failed

Can anyone tell me what this message might mean? Thanks for any help you can give.

I just tried a Sony DVD and it didn't work. They always worked before. I think it is something to do with the burner and not the media. I guess I will try the genius bar next for more ideas. Thanks for all the input.
