Formatting HD before installing

Hi all,
I've just downloaded the new Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Since my hard drive was pretty full I backed up the files I want to keep and expected, while installing Mountain Lion, an option "to install with formatting hard drive before". This is what I was told and also what I can get out of other discussion boards for earlier versions.
What I already tried is to enter the disc utility but there I could not format my hard drive, of course, because my hard drive has only one partition. How should this work while I was booting from that partition?! I was just wondering since disc utitlity shows also other "drives" when starting it from the Mountain Lion Installation?
--> Is there any other chance to format my 1-partition-hard drive in combination with the Mountain Lion installation?
--> If not really, I'd also be happy about hints how to format the hard drive after installing Mountain Lion, since to install wouldn't be a problem at all. Here I'd be happy about an advise how to format everything - including libraries, user and so on - exept everything that comes with the Mac OS X itself. So actually I want my MacBookPro after the formatting like it would come if I bought it originally with Mountain Lion, i.e. having the need to set up a user, no preferences are set yet, and so on. The most important libraries are backed up, too.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply, the indexing its not running any more, so its not the indexing, i found other topics that talk about different processes that may use the CPU and cause the overheating but i cant found anything, im pretty sure that its a software problem from apple, so if i cant fixed i expect an software upgrade.

  • What is the proper way to format a new HD as GUID before installing Leopard

Before installing Leopard on my new WD RE3 HD I went into Leopar disk utilities and chose PARTITION and then under advanced I chose GUID and let it do its thing. Now when the disks display on boot (I have both Leopard & Snow Leopard dosks availale) when I hold down the OPTION key the Leopard disk shows as "Leopard" but the new Snow Leopard disk displays as "EFI Boot" and I have been told it's because it was not formatted as a GUID disk. Would installing and booting up with Snow Leopard even be possible on a non GUID disk? The Snow Leopard drive is designated as the boot drive and it boots up just fine with no error messages... only when I do a selective boot do I see it as "EFI Boot disk"

    Sorry to disappoint, but...
I have a MacBook Pro and I have partitioned my internal hard disk to have both Leopard and Snow Leopard. When I restart the computer holding the option key, it shows both Leopard and Snow Leopard. Then I choose which one I want.
Now, I installed the new Disk Warrior 4.2 on my Leopard partition and recreated the directories for the Snow Leopard partition. Then when I restart holding the option key, it shows Leopard and EFI boot.
This leads me to conclude that DW 4.2 somehow hosed something in the disk. Being the coward that I am I had backed up my Snow Leopard partition. Put it back and it shows, Leopard and Snow Leopard as expected.

  • Please install Visual Studio 2005 before install Acrobat 9 Plugin Wizard

    Hi,
I have Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition installed on my computer. I keep get error message said "Please install Visual Studio 2005 before install Acrobat 9 Plugin Wizard" when I installed Visual Studio App Wizard  Acro9PIWizInstaller.msi.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Thai

    Lol
Do you take me as a joker ?
*Of course I have contacted the micorsoft support first !*
*They ask me to try to install the .net framework 3.5, to see if the setup wasn't define as XP compatible.*
*Then they don't have answer yet and asked me to contact Toshiba support (funny no ?)*
Also If you look at the microsoft support forum the only installation pbm with Visual Studio with Vista is toshiba laptop satelitte related
Ok now, as it's my job, here is what I think :
Maybe the laptop was first setup with XP and maybe Tshiba reseler did install Vista on it as a migration !
    First case
So to be absolutly sure it wasn't the case I did a format of my HDD and reinstalled vista from the Toshiba Crash and recovery CD
    Second case
The problem remain, so it is possible that this Recovery CD and/or any other Toshiba product create this problem !!!!
Note that the C# or J# express just work fine, it's only the Visual Studio 2008 tem suite and pro

  • 1st steps to take on a new PC before installing CS5?

I have my new i7 PC set to arrive next week and when it does I want to make sure I break it in properly and add the needed updates before installing Premiere CS5. Here's my checklist so far:
    1. Update system bios.
    2. Update video card drivers (I'm getting the Nvidia GTX-470)
    3. Install anti-virus software (I like to use Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials)
Is there anything else you think should be done before loading my precious Adobe install DVD?
I'm also adding a second hard drive for video files... I forgot, should this be formated as FAT or that other format?
And once Premiere is installed, I assume I should check to see if there are any updates?
For the final step after Premiere is installed I'll perform the GTX-470 Mercury hack and (god willing) I'll be in HD real time editing heaven!

2nd hard drive is a MINIMUM... I use 3 hard drives... all drives are NTFS, never Fat32
Read Harm on drive setup http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972?tstart=0
    - click the embedded picture in Harm's message to enlarge to reading size
You should also buy software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... which makes restoring very easy
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Since this runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information

  • Update iPhoto '09 before installing Maverick?

I have iPhoto '09 and have seen enough discussions that tell me I need to be careful before proceeding with a Maverick update.
I actually asked in the Apple Store but the person didn't seem to sure.
Do I install Maverick and let it update iPhoto?
Or do I need to bring iPhoto current first and then install Maverick.
Are there any special precautions (other than backing up my files) that I need to take or anything to be aware of?
    Thanks...
    Chrystal

Are there any special precautions (other than backing up my files) that I need to take or anything to be aware of?
Make a full backup of your computer before upgrading to Mavericks, not only backup your documents and data. A bootable clone of your system on an external drive, or a full Time Machine Backup. This way, you you can revert to the previous state, if something should go wrong.
Do I install Maverick and let it update iPhoto?
Or do I need to bring iPhoto current first and then install Maverick.
    Neither.
Your current version will not run without problems on Mavericks, and the new iPhoto 9.5.1 will not run on your current version.
So, while still running iPhoto '09, repair your iPhoto library. This will make it safer to upgrade the library to to iPhoto 9.5.1 format.
Then install upgrade to Mavericks, and now you can buy iPhoto '11 from the AppStore. Then double-click your library to open it in iPhoto '11.
To repair your iPhoto library launch iPhoto with the key combination option-command held down and use the library first aid panel to repair the database.

  • CSS: How to chain SSL certificates outside of CSS before install?

Could some one advise on how to chain the certs files outside and before installing to CSS, please.
How to check if the cert files I received are in PEM format?
What program (widows) I use to chain the certificates.
What is the order in which the chaining is done.
Currently all I have is two cert files
    xxtrustL1c.crt.txt
    xxxx.xxxxxx.net.pfx.txt
    and
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps792/products_tech_note09186a00801de89b.shtml
    Step by step guidence please.
    Sri

In order to use the chained certificates on the CSS, the server certificate and intermediate must be concatenated together. This allows the CSS to return the entire certificate chain to the client upon the initial SSL handshake. When the chained certificate file is created for the CSS, make sure the certificates are in the proper order. The server certificate must be first, then the intermediate certificate is used to sign the server certificate must be next. The power entry modules (PEM) format is not very strict, and the empty lines between keys or certificates do not matter.
The entire contents of the mychainedrsacert.pem file are shown here with the server cert on the top, followed by the intermediate CA cert. If you need to add the root cert, it would go to the bottom.

  • Is Iphoto Twain compliant? Or must I buy another program before installing a CyberView X scanner?

I want to install a CyberView X-SF scanner to convert my photographic slides to digital format.  The product manual says I must install Twain compliant software before installing the scanner driver CD.  Is iPhoto or Mavericks Twain compliant, or do I need to upgrade to Aperture or another more powerful program?

As neither iPhoto nor Aperture have any ability to scan images it doesn't matter. You can with whatever software comes with the scanner, or Image Capture, or any other 3rd party app, then import the scans to iPhoto or Aperture.
One tip: scan to RGB, it's what cameras shoot and what these apps support.

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

  • Remote printer is recognized but message says can't find printer?  It worked great before installing OSX Maverick

Remote printer is recognized but message says can't find printer?  It worked great before installing OSX Maverick?

    Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately I have already rebooted the router and that did not fix the problem. The weird thing is that the computer is connected to the network, it just won't connect to my computer. I have printed the network configuration page to confirm this, and it says the wireless signal is strong.
I have not changed anything at all recently in terms of routers, networks, etc. The printer stopped working completely randomly.
Is there a part in the printer that like emits a signal which computers, phones, etc are supposed to detect? I don't know enough about the mechanics to really theorize about what is wrong, but it seems like that is the only thing that stopped working.
Do you have any other suggestions?

  • I have created a new partition on the Mac HD for Lion as I would like to dual boot. Do I need to install Snow Leopard on that partition before installing Lion? If so, can I use one of my Time Machine backups to do this?

    zoominnana wrote:

No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

  • Is there any way to have photo stream to sync to my pictures folder like it did before installing iLife 11?

    Hi,
Before installing iLife 11, my photo stream synced to the (Finder)Pictures- Photo Stream - which I very much liked.
Now I have installed iLife 11, iPhoto has taken over and the photos syncthere, not in the original Photo Stream folder.
Is there any way for me to revert syncing to the pictures folder ratherthan with iPhoto?
    2 reasons why:
1 - I have to copy the photos out of iPhoto which is annoying, there’sno point in having a auto sync if I have to copy out of iPhoto, I might aswell becopying off my phone.
2 - photos only sync when iPhoto is open so I have to wait for them todownload whereas before they synced as I took them and when I got in, they were'just there' and now I have to wait.
If anyone can suggest a solution for me that would be great, I don’twant to remove iPhoto from my system so that’s not an option.
If there isn’t a solution, what’s Apple playing at? Surely this isfrustrating for users other than me?
    Thanks in advance.

CS5 install says I need CS2,3 or 4 before installing 5, but old computer went directly from 10 to CS5.
How can I repeat this 10 to CS5 install?

It does not seem likely that CS6 was upgraded from version 10.  You might want to check your purchase history in your Adobe account to see if there is some missing link in the chain of purchases you made.

I downloaded Lion from the App Store on to my iMac and did not save it to a thumb before installing.  Do I have to buy it again to install  it on my Macbook Pro and iPad,  or is there another way to do that?
All my electronics are about a year old.   iPad is Model MB293LL (4.2.1) only wi-fi - no phone.
MacBook Pro is  OSX 10.6.8 Build 10K549.  Also have an AT&T iPhone that I basically use as a Palm, since I changed carriers.
    Thank you for your help.
ps: I got an error message and it looks like this did not get posted the first time.  2nd try.

Open the Mac App Store on your MacBook Pro
Hold the Option key and click on “Purchases”
Hold the Option key and click on “OS X Lion” from the purchased app list
“Installed’ should now say “Install” which allows you to download OS X Lion.
This assumes you are using the same Apple ID on both computers.
Lion does not get installed on an iPad. It runs iOS.
