Formatting Mono Audio to Play in 2 Tracks

I'm using Premiere 5.5, production premium package on a Mac 2.6g tower with 16 gigs of RAM.  OS 10.6.4
In the Project Panel I have formatted my one-track, dual-system recorded dialogue to play Mono As Stereo.  The dialogue plays in both L and R channels just fine in the source window, however when I drag it into the Timeline, both tracks show up, but only the Left Channel has any audio or waveform.
What's my problem?!
Thanks, Jesse

Just use either the "fill right or fill left effect". I don't have access to 5.5 at the moment so I can't offer any advice as to why it's doing what it's doing because cs6 works slightly different than cs5.5 in certain ways. However using the fill effects will solve the problem.
However I just had a thought after you used the "mono as stereo" modify feature, did you deselect the channel that didn't actually have audio in it? So in this case you would want to deselect the right channel since it's the one that doesn't have any audio. Like in this video

  • Black Screen for .avi format but audio does play

    Hello
I have just imported an avi video file that i recently converted from flash... the convert format is:
    H.264/AVC
    Bit rate: 4500
    Frame Rate : 30
The video plays fine in windows media player so i then file> import and I get just audio only. I have not installed any special codec packs, given it worked in media player i assumed i already have the codec... am i wrong in this assumption?
I don't really know how to debug the problem ?
Hope you can give me some advice here!

  • How do you export 4 discrete mono audio tracks with video from Adobe Premiere Pro 4/Adobe Encoder?

I've posted this question in different terms a few times and have not had an answer.  I can't find the answer on the Premiere Pro support site either (which makes me think that a simple solution doesn't exist)
We use adobe premiere pro 4.  We capture DVCAM tapes with 4 discrete audio channels.  When we export the video using adobe encoder, the result is stereo tracks with the discrete audio channels mixed together which is completly useless to us.  When I select Mono for the output settings, two channels of audio are mixed into one audio channel.  Also useless.
When capturing the clip, we always use the mono timeline and modify the clips to mono. We can edit the discrete audio channels but when we export the video, the audio is mixed down.
this is the problem.  Each of our  4 audio channels contain a different language of dialogue.  When exported, these 4 get mixed down to 2 mixed channels blending of course the language.
Can Premiere Pro 4 export discrete mono audio channels?  How do you do it?
Does version 6 have the ability to export 4 discrete mono channels?

    Hi Steve,
Important info is missing from your post - what format are you wanting to export to, and for what purpose? We need to know how the exported file is intended to be used. Who's going to view it, using what gear? Is it for another editor to work with? End user viewing?
    Thanks

  • HT3775 i need codec format to support audio to play movies?

i need codec format to support audio to play movies

Just download the free, open-source media player VLC. It plays pretty much anything.Get VLC here:

Also, beware of dodgy internet sites that say you can't play a movie and offer to install a 'codec' for you. They're typically malware or spyware.

Audiobooks purchased from Audible.com.  They play on iTunes on my computer.  They have been playing on my iPod Classic until two days ago.  I'm in the middle of two books and now one does not keep track of where I am and the other does not play.  I also have other books not playing on the iPod that use to play.  They all play on iTunes on my computer.

  • Grouping a clip's mono audio tracks after capture

Every time I drag a clip to the timeline, I have to click on the clip, and link the audio tracks as a stereo pair, which is really annoying. After a while, I realized that this is because whoever captured the clips forgot to group tracks a1 and a2 together, so now the clips all have two seperate mono tracks.
Now that the clips are already captured, how do I group the two audio tracks into a stereo pair?

    Hey Red Truck,
It sounds like you're pretty much doing everything right. My guess is that if your footage was shot, "logged and transfered" with 4 mono audio tracks (like a lot of HD tapeless stuff does, XDCAM, P2) then this little trick might not actually work. If your footage was shot, logged and digitized as 2 mono tracks (again, maybe the diff being a 2 channel miniDV tape as opposed to the common 4 channel HD stuff) the trick usually works. But truthfully, once in a while I noticed it doesn't work and am still unable to explain why.
I kinda have a feeling that I've only ever used the trick on DV-NTSC and DVCPRO 50 two-channel footage and not on HD footage that typically comes in 4 channel mono off P2 and XDCAM.
I'll try to do a test at my end and see if I'm even in the ballpark on this guess. I'm also assuming you're trying this on 4-channel HD footage since you mentioned "...(or four) mono audio tracks" in your post. If you are, for the fun of it, media manage an HD clip down to DV-NTSC with 2 channel stereo audio and try the trick.
It does work as I've done it numerous times on shows in FCP when assist editors accidentally logged and batch captured hours and hours of footage as dual mono instead of stereo.

  • Adjusting multiple mono audio tracks with the Audio Mixer

Anybody know how to adjust multiple mono audio tracks simultaneously with the audio mixer? If your tracks are stereo, one fader will control two faders or audio tracks. Suppose you have 6 mono audio tracks and don't want to pull down each fader separately. Is there a way to pull down one fader and have the others locked to it, or controlled by it?

Not with the sliders, but you can adjust levels with ctrl [ and ctrl ] (I think, not at fcp right now).
The autoselect buttons (to the right of the lock icons, at the head of the timeline) tell fcp which track to adjust...

  • Exporting mono audio tracks as mono audio tracks with video tracks

    hello,
i'm working with dv pal 48 khz digitized files.  when i import the files into fcp7, i have a video track and 4 different mono audio tracks.  my plan is to modify each individual mono track, after exporting each as aif, editing them, and then importing them back as aif.  the problem is that when i've built a sequence with 1 video track and 4 different mono audio tracks, there doesn't seem to be a way to end up with 4 different mono audio tracks like the original, it appears that the only option is to end up with 2 stereo tracks.  can someone help me with this, which i'm sure is a very odd problem?
    kind regards,
    charlie

If you are editing the audio with Soundtrack Pro you can use the "send to" command. It will send your project as a multi-track file so that each track can be editited independently or you can add elements to all four.
If you have Logic, add it to the "external audio editors" list and you can use it in the same way as STP.

  • Fixing mono audio speech track

    Hi all,
Tryng to fix a mono audio speech track - like a podcast that was very badly done - 1 person is very loud and the other is very soft...
I was thinking of using some technique to auto split the whole track into many regions based on wave volume so all soft parts were split from all loud -
then I would make 2nd track and put all soft regions on trk2 and go on from there...
Q: what's the best way to create all these regions?
    Thanks in advance - Dave

    Hi seeren
I made the key command and that worked  - thanks.

  • Duplicate and sync a mono audio track?

I just switched over from FCP7 to CS5.5 PPRO.
When I was in FCP, I used to do a OPTION/SHIFT on my Mac key board and drag the mono audio to to the next one down
and it would duplicate the audio track.
Then, I chould highlight both and sync them together so if I moved the volume or did keyframing on one track it would
also affect the other audio track.
Is there means of quickly doing the same in PPRO?

The first part is accomplished using the standard Copy/Paste methodology.
The second part isn't possible.  You can only adjust one effect at a time.
Having said that, I'm curious why you'd need to duplicate a mono track?

  • Prem CS6 Mono Audio Track 3db Level Error

    Hi,
Just been doing some mixing and have noticed that mono tracks are 3db lower than stereo.
At first I placed a limiter on a mono audio instance (not track) set to limit at -8 and it actually limits at -11.
This is not the case with stereo tracks.
I thought it was the plugin but when I tested it out with tone I found that tone came in at the correct level... -12 on a stereo track then when you made it mono it came in 3db lower.
Anyone got any ideas or is this one for the Bug Report?
Be good if someone could confirm so I know I'm not going crazy.
    Cheers

I have a similar problem, in that I normally record split track audio on my camcorder, its on-board mic into Ch1 and a radio mic onto ch2. Upon importing the files into Premiere, I use the Modify > Audio channels option to make the stereo track into two mono channels. And hey-presto, what previously peaked at 0dB now peaks at -3dB. Since I usually aim to peak any audio at circa -3 or -4 dB, this has not been a problem to me.
    bye Andrew

  • Audio not playing in mov format K'08

Ive seen a lot of threads but none had a solution to this.
With the slides, I included an mp3 from within itunes
dragged it from the media window into the documents soundtrack box
    clicked looped
and played just fine throughout the manual presentation.
    clicked export to .mov
    checked include audio files
when the mov plays it is silent.
I tried one workaround, using the newly recorded audio file reimported into keynote 08 and exported again - still silent
has anyone figured out how to get the audio to play in .mov?
    thanks

Believe it or not, I've been having this same problem since I bought my Imac G5 a few years ago. It just happened to my MacBook Pro, as well. Along with the fact that mpg audio is gone, so is flash audio. It seems to happen every so often, usually after one of my computers hang while loading a preview for a flash movie. The problem actually seems to correct itself after a few restarts, or loading of some programs.
In the process of writing this post, I regained support for mpg audio, and flash audio - and in quicktime player for that matter. When I started writing this, it didn't work. I dunno, quicktime is weird that way. The longest time I was without flash or mpg audio was for a period of 3 weeks. After which, it somehow was magically there again. I wish that wouldn't happen, as it usually happens at the most inconvenient times. The whole way flash is not supported through newer versions is rather irritating as well isn't it? Use SAFlash player for mac for those if you can: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • Why is audio disappearing from Extracted Sound Track File?

I extracted the +Sound Track+ from a .mov file which was originally a .wmv file I'd edited and saved in QT Pro. Regarding the original movie from which I extracted the Sound Track, +Movie Properties+ indicated the +Video track+ as being +Sorenson H.263.+ The Sound Track extracted was +MPEG Layer 3.+
+MovieProperties/Audio Settings+ displayed Sound Track as a Mono audio track.
The extracted sound track appeared in a new QT Window/Player as "Untitled".
I hit play and the audio track played. I saved it as a Self-Contained Movie, hit play and it played again, no problem.
    ( +Movie Properties+ still displayed the +Sound Track+ Format as MPEG Layer 3/Mono)
I quit QT Pro and turned my attention to other projects in other applications.
Later, when I booted QT Pro and tried to listen to the Extracted Sound Track File, I hit play and the playhead moved, but there was no audible audio, or indication of audio in the equalizer display. It was as if the audio had disappeared. Opening +Movie Properties,+ the +Extracted Sound Track+ still appeared as MPEG layer 3/Mono and the track was still enabled.
On a hunch, I opened and played the original Movie from which I'd extracted the sound track. After that, I hit play again on the Extracted Sound Track Window/Player and voila! -- the audio miraculously reappeared and was fully audible. I don't understand. Why is this happening? I did save the Extracted Sound Track file as a self-contained movie. It doesn't make sense.
More to the point, _how does one extract a sound track and save/process it such that the extracted sound track remains intact with full playback capability, without first having to play the original movie from which it was extracted in order to make the Extracted Sound Track file playback._

    Thanks RT...
The curious thing is, if I boot the computer and open the +Extracted Sound Track+ file in Quicktime, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the audio is there. Sometimes it's not. If I however, play ANY other Quicktime Movie on my computer and THEN open the +Extracted Sound Track+ File, the audio miraculously reappears. What can it be?
I've got Streamclip. Haven't used it much but I'll try your approach and export the file back to a Quicktime Format.

  • I have been trying to put music I bought on I tunes on my Samsung Note 2 phone but it won't play.I try to convert them to mp3 format so I can play them on my phone but it won't let me convert them because it says they are protected. Can anybody help me?

I have been trying to put music I bought on Itunes on my Samsung Note 2 but my media player won't play m4p files so I tried to convert the files to mp3 but I couldn't, because a message says they are protected files. I then tried downloading different media player apps to see if they would play them but had no success. Can anybody help with a solution to this problem?

First quit iTunes and look in your iTunes folder.
On Windows, the iTunes folder is in your My Music folder.
On Mac, the iTunes folder is in your Music folder.
Follow this path:    iTunes > iTunes Media > Music >
Here there should be all your music folders. Open the folders containing the music that is not playing. Right click "get info" (mac) or right click "properties" (windows).
This window will tell you the file type. iTunes will play music in AAC, MP3, and Lossless, etc.
If the files are .wma you will need to convert them into ACC or MP3 format for it to play on an iPod. In iTunes, highlight the tracks that you want to convert, then on the menu bar, Advanced > Create AAC/MP3 version and the tracks will convert. Delete the old files.
If the file extenstion is anything like .exe .txt .rar  then you don't have an audio file.
