Former iPhone User & Possible iMessage Problems - Textmessage Issue

I have been an iPhone user since the 2G, so about 10 years. In fact, everyone in my family uses iPhones. Even when I decided to change, my
family members remained devoted iPhone users. I loved my iPhone, but in time I realized Apple fostered this cool-kid-lunch-table culture, and I didn’t want to help promote that belief/behavior. The last straw for me was having to play Apple’s upgrade game where little to no innovation would occur.
I had been waiting for a new iPhone since my brand new iPhone 5 got stolen. This should be noted, I did not receive any support from Apple in
the aftermath of that incident. I repeatedly went to the Genius Bar near my apartment, but it was useless. I was told your “Lost” mode or whatever was impervious. (By the way, I spent the next couple of months telling at&t to stop sending me bills for calls being made to Russia on that iPhone.) I ended up using the 4S for almost two more years. Given Planned Obsolescence (to be fair, all the smart devices do that (in theory all consumer goods)), those two years were grim. (i.e. phone interviews for a job were next to impossible)
Thus, when I was eligible for an update, I got the Nokia Lumia 1020. Apple’s smart, it ended up hiring Ari Partinen, the guy who designed and help implement a huge selling point of the device, the 41 megapixel camera. Much like the 2G, theNokia Lumia 1020 has problems. Companies cannot (or in some instances, will not) innovate and (truly) improve their products without demand andcompetition. (i.e. The fourth (or the fifth) generation of Apple tablets started coming out with Pages after the very first Windows’ tablet came with MSOffice during the first year's use). Thus, I had to forgo the Nokia Lumia 1020 on the whole because the demand to improve the product is not there like it was for the 2G.
Given the circumstances, at&t suggested I get a different smartphone, I asked to go back to the iPhone, but I was told I could not due to
some sort of prevision in Apple’s contract. Something along the lines of – "You should have chosen the iPhone during your upgrade." I was randomly sent an Android  device, and told this is the best thing I’m getting. Take it or leave it.
To add, one of my problems will mostly likely rollover to the Android phone . For some unknown reason, I stopped receiving group texts (from iphone users), which is mostly likely an imessage problem. It is probably an imessage problem because I experienced it when I first switchedto a non-apple device (three months ago, with the Lumia 1020).
As such, I signed into my apple account on their support site, to unregister my devices (again). I (thought) deleted everything three months ago, but it looks like thestolen iPhone 5 is on there.
Is Apple literally FORCING me back to them (while simultaneously, barring me from accessing
their product)?
At this point, I am too exhausted (and have to get back to my responsibilities), please figure something out with messages being sent via wifi (aka: imessage).
PS. Forgive the editing errors, formatting problems wouldn't allow me to resolve them. ....Apple, go listen to some Echosmith. The cool kid culture needs to be improved. You are capable of making the needed improvements.

I'm sorry. This is a user to user technical support forum. Apple does not participate in the forum. Do you have a technical support question in there. I read the entire thing, but could not get anything but complaints out of it. If you want to tell Apple something go to the feedback page at www.apple.com/feedback.
I concur.

It's either hand right or left.
I have the same issue myself.  Not sure if it's b/c my fingers are too big or if I'm really missed the letter on the keyboard.

Whenever I send a message to another iPhone user via iMessage it is sending my Apple ID instead of my phone number. Could someone help me with this???

Check this article: iOS: About Messages
    Additional Information
You can change your iMessage Caller ID setting on iOS devices in Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID. Note that the Caller ID setting is used only for new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change your Caller ID, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.
iMessage responses will be sent from the address the recipient most recently messaged. For example, on iPhone you can receive messages sent to your Apple ID and phone number. A friend sends you a message to your Apple ID. Responses in this conversation will be sent from your Apple ID, even if your Caller ID is set to your phone number.

  • IPhone to Android iMessage problem - tried everything

    Hello there,
I just purchased a Galaxy S4 and am switching from my iPhone 4. I've read dozens of discussions and articles about disabling iMessage so iPhone users can text me, but nothing seems to work. Here is an overview of what I've done:
Turned iMessage on my phone off.
Deselected my phone number from OSX messages app.
Went to supportprofile.apple.com. Never registered my iPhone so there was no device to remove. Went to phone numbers and removed my number.
Went into iTunes, went to view account. Went to manage devices on iCloud and removed iPhone.
Changed my password at supportprofile.apple.com. Didn't sign into messages on OSX or iMessage on iPhone.
Completely wiped and restored iPhone to factory settings.
And yet, when my brother sends me a text from his iPhone, it goes to iMessage. Not a single one of my deivces is signed in on iMessage and my iPhone is currently sitting unactivated without a SIM card.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Can't SMS (regular text) with iPhone users when iMessage is off?

My iMessage is off and so is cellular data because I ran over my data for the month so I turned it off. I can send regular text messages, SMS, to people and they send, but it seems that when iPhone users reply, I don't get the message. Can anyone help me please?

The other iPhones also have to have Settings > Messages > Send as SMS > ON
Note that group SMS requires MMS and cellular data on to work.

  • Former iPhone user texts

I have an iPhone.  My son used to have an iPhone.   He bought a new Samsung Galaxy.  I can no longer send texts to him.  My phone keeps trying to send the text via iMessage.  I've tried a hard reset (?).  I've tried removing him from my contacts.  I keep getting a "Message Send Failure" message.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for that information, Elector. The good news is that we can get your son access to his messages again. He should unregister his Apple ID by following these steps.
    Step 1
    Go to supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do.
    Step 2
Log in with your Apple ID and password.
    Step 3
Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example).
    Step 4
    Click ‘Unregister’.
    Step 5
You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.
**Important info** By unregistering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless you reregister it.***

  • Former PC user has a problem with volume short cut

Can someone help me? My mac book pro is 2 weeks old and somehow I just disengaged the handy volume short cuts on the keyboard. How do I get the volume controls and mute button to come back to F3-F5?

Hi, lycidas, and welcome to the discussions.
Try heading to System Preferences (under the Apple menu). Now select "Keyboard and Mouse" and choose the "Keyboard" tab.
Make sure there ISN'T a tick in the box next to "Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys".

  • Galaxy s5 not receiving messages from iphone users

Ok so sorry about the long question but I just bought a galaxy s5 to replace my iphone 4s and im having trouble getting messages from iphone users.  I tried turning off imessage, turned off find my iphone, resetting the device completely, and even created a new apple id but nothing has worked in the past 6 hours. The only thing I have left is to contact apple support but I really dont want to spend $20 to talk to someone if I dont have to... Any help at this point will be apprectiated.  Thanks

At the risk of repeating some information, I'm leaving a full message here because I found many of the suggestions above to be vague and confusing. This is a step by step of the call that I just put in to Apple to fix this issue with Samsung S5 Galaxies not getting text messages from iPhones. This process should only be necessary if you no longer have possession of your iPhone; if you do, it seems from messages above you can go into your iPhone's settings and turn off iMessage yourself.
NOTE: According to Victoria, the Apple rep who was familiar with the problem and (supposedly, within the next half hour to 24 hours) fixed the problem, iPhone users who have updated to IOS 7.1.1 --not just 7.1, but the 7.1.1 specifically -- will not have this issue, as 7.1.1 fixed the issue causing this disconnect. However, any iPhone user operating under 7.1 or previous systems will not be able to send an S5 Galaxy user a text without an elaborate and individualized process to remove the former iPhone user's iMessage link. So, here's what I did:
    1. Called Apple Support at 800-694-7466 (I could not find the section headings/descriptions mentioned by FoxFifth above on the website listed; the sections did not match anything on the page linked to that supplied url)
    2. Followed the prompts, which involved giving my phone number (the one now linked to my Galaxy S5 but formerly to my iPhone 4s) and verbally requesting a representative at the appropriate time after the appropriate prompt. NOTE: disregard the warning about a $19 one-time service charge; it will not apply once you speak to someone.
    3. Wait for a rep.
    4. When the rep answers, say, "I just upgraded from my iPhone (4, 4s, 5, etc.) to a Samsung Galaxy S5 and can no longer receive texts from other iPhone users. I found online that this is because my iMessage is still turned on and I need you to deactivate my iMessage that automatically sends other iPhone users' messages to that old phone, which I no longer have."
    5. The rep, who -- if they are anything like Victoria, who said she's done this "quite a lot today, actually" -- will recognize your issue. The rep will send you a text message to your new device, which contains an alphanumeric code that you must read back to the rep to authenticate it. At that time, the rep will put in your iMessage deactivation request; it should (here's fingers crossed) become active within 24 (some users here say 48, so be patient) hours, at which time the problem should disappear.
I hope this is detailed enough to help everyone else out there. Based on the Apple rep's familiarity with my problem, I'm hopeful the process will work as promised. I will update when I know for sure after a day or two that it is (or isn't) working.

  • Group Messages Not Working between Android and iPhone Users on iOS7

    Hi there,
I am a former iPhone user.  I recently converted both my line and my wife's line from the IPhone 5 to a Motorola X Android phone.  We kept our same phone numbers, but we completely switched from Verizon to AT&T.  I have noticed that text messaging works perfectly on an individual basis when I correspond with individuals who have the iPhone, but Group Messaging is not working correctly.  I am able to send messages to a group and they receive them just fine, but when they respond back to me, I do not receive their responses (as it appears they are going through as iMessages).  My wife is having the same issue on her phone.  After doing some detective work, I have found that hundreds of other users are having the same issues on their smartphones when they make the switch from an Apple product to an Android phone.  There are a variety of "bug fixes" listed on the web, but I have completed all of them and I am still having the same issue.  Here is what I have done so far...
*Factory reset both of our phones and removed the SIM cards (since we are with a new phone carrier)
*Changed both of our apple ID passwords
*Removed both of our phone numbers from Apple's database all together
*Unregistered both of our iPhone products with Apple
*Had all of my friends/family switch SMS to "On" in their Settings tab
So now what?  I read one post on an Apple forum that said that they are aware of the issue and we can expect a fix in a future iOS update...but when is that going to occur, if at all?  It is problems like these that led me to leave Apple all together, and here I am after having left the company, and I am still left high and dry searching for solutions to my problems.  Who can help, and how can I remedy the situation?
Anything you can provide to help out would be great.
    Thanks.

There are reports of iOS7 altering the settings on iMessage's connection to the iPhone. Verify that each of the iPhone and the Mac is receiving on the "channel" (phone number or email address) on which the other is initiating iMessages.

If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will be resent using SMS or MMS, depending on the content. You can turn this behavior on or off in Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
